Praise for What If Love Is the Point?:
"This is more than a book. It's a story of freedom, hope, redemption, and love. Being in the public eye, I understand the struggles they faced (and continue to face), individually and as a couple. I recognize myself in a lot of the stories they share. What If Love Is the Point? helped me heal from life's wounds. It taught me that I'm not alone and I know this book will help so many others grow their faith and live out love. I didn't want it to end."

Alexa and Carlos knocked this thing out of the park! This isn’t what I normally read, but I am so glad that I read this book when I did! Sometimes it gets so easy to get caught up in life that you forget just what God has done for you and what He continues to do. I am super involved in my church, but sometimes I forget to just rest in Him. I forget that He is the reason I am who I am. I love that Alexa and Carlos spread God’s love to everyone both in their everyday life and through their platform! If you haven’t read this book, you need to!
I truly enjoyed this read - I didn't know too much of the couple past a little bit of Spy Kids, but hearing how their faith has changed their lives, their relationships, their careers - it was incredibly inspirational and good to hear about young celebrities using their fame to share their faith stories and journeys.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the Advance copy, all opinions are my own and freely given!
I absolutely love Carlos and Alexa. This book was so cute and inspiring. I feel like their personalities are perfectly reflected and gives a realistic look at relationships.
Non-fiction books are hit or miss for me, but this one was a really good pick. Being written by two people that I saw on tv in my childhood and now reading something from them as adults was great. I loved it.
I don’t read very many non-fiction books and when I do, it usually takes me awhile to get through them. but I read What If Love Is The Point in only 2 days. I absolutely loved this book.
I love hearing people’s testimony. It is always such an encouragement to hear how God has worked in someone else’s life. So I really enjoyed hearing about Carlos and Alexa’s life and seeing how God has completely changed their life. This book is a huge encouragement for readers.
I enjoyed this read! I thought that Alexa and Carlos gave me a new perspective on some part of marriage that I, as a newlywed, loved. The book is a quick read and I loved the two perspectives or stories and anecdotes. I do feel like the book could have used a bit more editing, as things were repeated within paragraphs or spelled wrong, but I also am an English grad student and I’m sure i’m a bit more cynical than most. Overall a great read! Definitely recommend to a Christian audience.
Believing in God & Jesus is just natural ☆5/5☆
》WHAT IF LOVE IS THE POINT?《
BY CARLOS & ALEXA PENAVEGA
Carlos and Alexa PenaVega just shared a lot of their lives in this book, their finding & bonding with God & Jesus in a very refreshing way.
They remark that God (& Jesus) love all beings & by that is willing to help everyone not only if asked to.
Opinion
I love that both write so refreshing about their love and trust in God & Jesus. It's easy to follow both on their journey till they find each other and afterward till today and how God's ways bring them together.
I like to read from both, Alexa and Carlos, point of view, how everything come together as long as they're having fate.
It totally was a pageturner. I couldn’t leave this book for a second and read it in only a few hours. I really felt immediately with their story and interestingly very peaceful, too.
Conclusion
Read it even if you're not a believer it brings light into your heart and soul.
Even if you cannot go with faith, believe me, it is still worth it. It is fresh and light.
All we need is (God's) love (that we already have).
I've got this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review, which I here share with you.
Loved learning about Alexa and Carlos, how they met, their backgrounds in the spotlight and more. They share their journeys in their faith without being pushy with it.
The story of Carlos and Alexa PenaVega is inspiring. Carlos and Alexa PenaVega are actors best known for their roles in Big Time Rush (Carlos PenaVega) and SpyKids (Alexa PenaVega). The journeys that led Carlos and Alexa PenaVega to their relationship with Jesus Christ and eventually to each other is such a testament to the faithfulness of God in our lives.
Carlos and Alexa write with such candidness and truth. I truly enjoyed reading about their personal journey in their relationship with Jesus and the genuine love and respect they have for one another. Carlos and Alexa tell of their respective struggles they endured and how their relationship with Jesus saw them through these struggles.
This book tells the story of more than just an actor and actress; it tells the story of two individuals who let Jesus Christ in their hearts, let Him lead their lives, and how their lives are lived to honor Him. If you are a fan or even if you are not, I believe this book is worth reading. The basic tenets of Carlos and Alexa's faith journey is relatable and serves as an example that giving your life to Jesus Christ is a journey that will change your life forever.
Happy Reading!

This was such a sweet story from Carlos & Alexa PenaVega! Sharing their individual journeys to fame and faith, the PenaVegas show their readers that you don’t have to choose one or the other. They seem to navigate their fame well, prioritizing Jesus and their family. It was an easy and enjoyable read.
I was knocked out speechless when I discovered that I was part of the Launch team for What If Love is the point. Thus I did receive a complimentary copy and all opinions expressed are entirely my own.
I absolutely enjoyed this book and what it represented. It was a raw memoir with multiple POV -one from Carlos and the other Alexa. It was an honest book about trusting God in uncertainty and in moments of despair. It was a lesson in trusting God in our careers ,love lives and finances. I enjoyed how the author's shared their not so glorious moments and things they also regret doing . I recommend this book
As a fan of both Alexa and Carlos, I loved getting to read more about their lives. As a Christian I loved reading their testimony and hearing about all God has done in their lives. I was part of the launch team for this book and I really enjoyed being on that team. Thank you Carlos and Alexa for being so vulnerable and sharing your story with the world. This book is going to impact many people’s lives, I just know it!
Carlos and Alexa give such a good and hopeful view on life in this book
Their story really penetrates deep in your heart and fills it with joy.
if you are going through a hard time you NEED this book
Carlos and Alexa have always been very influential in my life. I’ve followed their careers over the years as well as their YouTube channel. Being a Christian, it’s so hard to find celebrities that share the same values, morals and life goals as I do. And then there was the PenaVegas. I knew quite a bit about them from watching and reading about them, but this book has given such deep insight into who they really are and why.
From Carlos sharing his testimony, which brought actual tears of happiness to my eyes to Alexa sharing her relationship issues with her family and her experiences with an eating disorder, they are true to themselves and who they are with God guiding them.
They truly put God first in their lives and in every decision they make. One big thing about the PenaVegas is that if God isn’t in it, they aren’t either.
Making their faith the focus is such an inspiration to me. I love how open and honest they are in this book and sharing how even through all the hard times, God is still their number one.
I love the back and forth in each chapter of who is telling their stories.
Carlos and Alexa have such a beautiful family and making God the focal point made me want to read this book even more.
I finally got a chance to finish this. I thought it was a great way to learn about both Carlos & Alexa's lives both before and after they knew Jesus and each other. I loved getting insight into their careers and past relationships. I also liked hearing of their journeys to really knowing God. I love how they continue to prioritize God and make it clear in this book.
I do think that it felt like a while to get to the title of the book, with love being "the point". I also think possibly there are some things here that felt oversimplified... not to invalidate any individual experiences, but I think it's important to note that with something like an eating disorder, for most it probably requires seeking medical help to get into recovery. While Alexa does encourage people suffering to not keep the problem hidden, I feel like you're left with the notion that if you are very strong in your prayer and faith and open about your eating disorder that it can just literally go away overnight like it did for her. Again, not to invalidate her story, but I think it can usually take more than that for others and there was no mention or encouragement to seek any treatment services for those struggling.
Still I like the sentiments that they had about God and maintaining a good and strong relationship with Jesus. I think they did a good job getting their points across with their testimonies.
Being a fan of pop culture, and a Christian, I was eager to pick up "What if Love is the Point?", I thoroughly enjoyed hearing from both Carlos and Alexa's point of view, to see the ways in which their stories intersected and brought them together.
The behind-the-scenes peek into their experiences in the entertainment industry, coupled with the context of their love story and their commitment to living a life that honors God, all made this a book that I was delighted to read.
What If Love Is the Point? goes behind the scenes with Carlos PenaVega and Alexa PenaVega. From the stories of how they found fame (Carlos with Big Time Rush, and Alexa with Spy Kids), to the struggles they were fighting behind closed doors (eating disorders, drug habits, etc.) to finding Jesus and falling in love. They are down to earth and honest. This book is like a breath of fresh air; inspirational, spreads the gospel without being preachy, and shows you that these two are more than just pretty faces, and that fame isn't everything.
This book wasn’t totally what I was expecting. I thoroughly enjoyed it, in each and every way possible. Both Alexa and Carlos had real and raw honesty - especially Alexa talking about her eating disorder so trigger warning for that - which hit home in a few ways personally. I, personally, enjoyed how neither were pushy with their beliefs, they just talked about it a lot, so if anyone is on the fence about reading it for that reason, no worries! After finishing this book I was left feeling good, and with a renewed sense of faith.
Incredible!!! I have genuinely enjoyed reading this memoir of love, life, and Jesus. I have been a fan of Alexa since Spy Kids and fell more in love with these two after seeing them together in Hallmark movies. I knew they had something special so I searched them on Instagram and YouTube and started following them. Their love and family are something I definitely looked up to after witnessing their day-to-day life, so I knew when they were writing a book it was something I needed to read. I personally am in the early stages of my relationship with God and finding my spot in religion. This book made me feel less alone. I appreciated their honesty and how they themselves are not perfect but they have grown with God. I admire them as people and their relationships so much more after reading about their journey and all the setbacks. I found solace in their words and comfort in their beliefs in the last chapter. I learned so much and truly “love is the point.” It is the feeling you get when you read this book, it was written out of love and by two people who genuinely love each other. Highly recommend it for anyone on a spiritual journey or people who want to grow along with these two amazing people.
While this is not something I enjoy proclaiming to others, it is the best way of showing my sincerity and delight meant. I am dyslexic so reading is not something I generally enjoy - that being said, reading What If Love Is the Point?: Living for Jesus in a Self-Consumed World by Carlos PenaVega and Alexa PenaVega could not have come at a better time in my life. While this book does focus on Christian marriage, it goes way beyond that. I would highly suggest if you are an avid reader, strongly dislike reading, are Christian, are not religious at all, are single, married, or anything else in between to read this book. This book made me cry, laugh, gain understanding, and leave feeling like I have purpose and want to live life again.
Knowing Carlos and PenaVega were a young, Christian Hollywood couple who are parents, I was excited to read their book, What If Love Is the Point. It's an easy-to-read book that I found hard to put down and read it in a few hours. From page one, I was given a front row seat into the lives as Carlos and Alexa as they told their story. Throughout the book, each one takes a turn in writing their chapter and the last chapter is written together. Through the book, you learn of their background as singles, how they came to work in Hollywood, and in the music industry, how they overcame challenges of an eating disorder, broken relationships, and learn how their faith journey began. Los and Lex share how they met, dated, married and how their faith grew. As a married couple, they share how they balance each other, and how they lean on their faith. What makes them real is their honesty, raw and unedited; it is what makes them relatable. As parents, Los and Lex share how they are raising their children to not just love God, but be kingdom builders and give examples that we can all do, not just as kids.
As they tell their story, I was immersed in their highs and lows and cheered for them as they shared how God became real in their life, how He performed miracles for them, and what He is still teaching them. Their ups and downs are what I could relate to most of all and made them seem more down to earth. I thought the last chapter especially highlighted the book's theme of love. Carlos and Alexa share a list "Because love is the point,..." and then expound on how they use it in their life and invite us too also. These points are so good, I want them as magnets on my refrigerator as a reminder of how my life can be fulfilled, have peace, a purpose and help my faith grow! This book can be read over and over again as their is much to absorb and treasure. I was blessed to read their book and get to "know them" and appreciate where they started in their journey and where they are now - and I don't just mean living in HI! This book will appeal to Christians, but also to anyone wanting to read a good love story. I appreciate how the book made me examine what is important to me and what points I may want to reconsider.
Wow! This book was incredible. The real, raw truths that both Lex and Los shared really spoke to me and encouraged me to listen to their words. I'm in a season of my life where I feel like things are good and spiraling out of control at the same time. I love that they share the "simple" things that they do daily to listen to and follow God. I couldn't put this book down and it really made me think and ask questions to myself. I felt real emotion while reading. Some parts made me laugh, while others tugged on the heartstrings. I also liked reading from both prospective and getting to see a situation from every angle. I appreciate them sharing this story with the world. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for more out of life and love and want to see that living in God's word is really the true guidance you need!
Oh oh oh ohhh. (If you know you know.) When you're little, everyone thinks that these famous personalities with lights, cameras, fan base, attention, and money are the leading results to success. If someone is successful it means happiness, aka that was the point of living. As one gets older, we get wiser, how? By reading, the fans get to see what happens behind the camera or stage and ask themselves the following questions: Have you ever wondered what happened behind the camera to your favorite childhood actors? What were their thoughts, heartache, personal relationships, etc? Just because you see people on stage having “the time of their lives” in front of you at truly a concert that you will never forget or giving a red carpet smile for a picture when you saw their pictures on "the cover of every supermarket magazine", is genuinely fulfilling. Nope. The love that our creator, God, is the point. In this book, Carlos and Alexa Penavega show us that anyone can have everything but without God’s love then they have nothing. I genuinely recommend this book to any young person that looks up to any celebrity. Sadly, in popular culture, the mentality is having money, fame, and success is based on a limited time in front of a screen. But Carlos and Alexa remind us that the point of success and happiness is to have God’s love everywhere, anywhere, and of course all the time. So go and pick up a copy of this book because you will have a different mentality after reading it. Blessings :)
I admired Carlos and Alexa before I read this book, and I admire them even more now that I’m finished. I enjoyed every minute of their story.
I, like many others, follow them on Instagram. I’ve long admired their relationship with each other and their family relationship. They seem like the picture-perfect family, however I know that they have struggles just like the rest of us. Their story gave more insight about how they deal with those struggles and what has worked for them, especially turning to Christ.
I appreciated how raw they were and how they genuinely opened up about their struggles and successes. Hearing how Alexa overcame her disordered eating and how she knew one morning that it was really gone was really amazing. I enjoyed watching them each come to Christ and how so much of their lives were orchestrated for their good. I liked how they saw Christ in their lives and acknowledged His hand instead of passing it off as coincidence.
I think the part that stood out the most to me was their experience on Dancing with the Stars. It must have taken a lot of strength to focus on their marriage relationship when everyone else was telling them to put their dancing partner first. I thought it must have felt so fulfilling when they got fan mail thanking them for putting their focus on their marriage the week after Alfonso told Alexa to focus more on her partner instead of Carlos. It was remarkable that Carlos was able to share his testimony during the show. It was a huge risk, but they didn’t care about the risks; they wanted everyone to know who Christ was just like they did. I think that one of the things I respect most about Carlos and Alexa is that they don’t care what society says, they don’t care what is popular in show business. They proudly defend their values and accept roles that fit in line with them or turn away roles that put their values at risk.
Another part I really resonated with was when they told about how they prayed to put on the armor of God, what a great way to pray over your family. Overall, the book was truly thought provoking. I finished it wanting to evaluate my relationship with Christ, and to be a better person.
I've followed Carlos and Alexa since they appeared on Dancing With the Stars in 2015. At that point, I'd never heard of Carlos and barely knew of Alexa, but they really drew me in with the way they openly talked about their faith in Jesus Christ and their love for one another. I don't know them as celebrities but as really cool people who share their lives—which just happen to be different than ours—with their fans.
What if Love is the Point? walks us through both Carlos and Alexa's journeys to becoming youth celebrities. You'll learn about their families and their backgrounds, their teenage dating stories, the things they enjoyed about their lives, and the ways they struggled. You'll learn how each of them individually came to know Jesus Christ as Savior, and shortly thereafter met one another.
Because I've always known them as a married couple, I learned lots of new things about their growing up years. I also loved reading more about things that have happened since I've been following them, like becoming parents and their move to Hawaii.
Most of all, I'm so proud of them for releasing a story that unashamedly promotes Jesus Christ. They're honest about the things Jesus has helped them overcome, and how He has made good things happen from bad circumstances. You can feel their passion for Him and how much they want to honor Him with their lives. I have mad respect for that.
If you enjoy reading about celebrities or just two really cool people, I'd recommend this book to you.
I received my copy of the book from the authors. All thoughts in this review are my own.
I have always adored these two growing up to watching their vlogs and cruising! Their Wednesday study was so fun to watch as well. It is wild how it seems I was a kid watching Alexa kick tale on Spy Kids lol.
If you are new to faith and newly or even those who have been married for years, this book is definitely something I recommend. This book gives into detail of both Carlos and Alexa’s youth experiences from dreams visions and how they also shift in ways as they grow older. They talk about meeting one another and early dating into their marriage that of course now have three beautiful children.
They talk about their finding of faith and holding steadfast to their faith in God. I love how Carlos is positive and Alexa is full of love and encouragement!
With celebrities books it’s understandable to be stand-off, but this book has been a joy to read. It has proven to be sincere and heartfelt while pointing to Jesus and family. “What If Love Is The Point” a must-read!
Hi, my name is Chrystal, most know me as Jarlosgirl101. What If Love is the Point is Carlos PenaVega and Alexa PenaVega’s testimony of how the met each other, how they found Jesus and their life journey along the way. This book appeals to every audience whether or not you are a believer or not. What did I like most about this book? The rawness. What do I mean by this? Well, I love how Carlos and Alexa were bold enough to tell these stories and to share something in their personal lives with their readers. I know as a fan, I got to see who Carlos was as a person not just a celebrity. I got to see how Alexa and Carlos started out in their career and see that they struggle just like we do. I used to view celebrities as “perfect” but this book really shows that celebrities feel and do the same as any other person does. When I read this book I laughed, I cried, I put myself in their shoes. I have been a Rusher for 13 years and I always thought highly of Carlos, like he could do no wrong. I always viewed Carlos as a hyperactive guy who loved people. I was partially right! Carlos always had a heart for those around him and through his story you definitely can see that. My favourite story in the book was the very first one and the one about Carlos asking Andrew why he was always so happy. The first chapter talks about how Carlos started Big Time Rush and you can bet the Rusher in me jumped for joy reading about his audition process. Also, for Alexa’s part I loved reading about her moments on the Spy Kids set. It is funny but I never realized that she was Carmen Cortez until I saw Carlos date her, yet I was a big fan of the Spy Kids trilogy! This book helped me realize that Carlos and Alexa are just like us. There are moments where I felt a lot like Carlos and at times a lot like Alexa! This book was a page turner! I love to read so I definitely enjoyed. Anything I dislike about this book? NOTHING! It was so well written, so interesting to read and made me happy. If I had to give this book a rating out of 10, it would honestly be a 100000000/10! You guys broke my scale! Go purchase this book, you won’t be disappointed!

I truly didn’t know what exactly to expect from this book. I have known these two since my girls were young and followed them through them. Because of that, I knew some of their story. When I started chapter one, I didn’t want to put the book down. I wanted to continue reading. To know their whole story. They were so honest with their life story and how Jesus worked through the good, the bad and the ugly to bring them to Him and each other. Then their journey together and how they try and live a live that shines brightly for Jesus in an industry that doesn’t and doesn’t always support marriage in general. I really was encouraged and impressed with their faith, commitment and boldness to follow Jesus and remain committed to each other in-spite of the demands of Hollywood. This is definitely a book I’d recommend reading and one I could find myself reading more than once and honestly, I don’t usually re-read books due to so many books I read. I’ve honestly almost picked it back up again to read already again! I think this book definitely has something for everyone. I encourage you to take a chance and read it for yourself. I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All views stated here are my own.
I went into reading this book with an expectation that I was going to hear about God and learn a little more about Carlos and Alexa’s lives, what I got out of it was much more than I could have hoped. They did an excellent job of seamlessly weaving God and their faith into stories about their trials and triumphs. I felt like I was in a room with them while they told me their story. There were moments I laughed, cried, and even verbally said "WOW".
Before even finishing the book, I was already telling my friends and family how amazing it was and the fresh perspective I gained following each chapter. I know this will continue to be a book that I reread through different seasons of my life and I’m already itching to lead a book study with their discussion questions. It looks like Christmas presents will be easy this year. 😊
First of all, I just want to thank Carlos and Alexa and the launch team for providing me with an advanced copy of this book before it was published.
After reading this book, I realized what a lot of people say is correct: social media is NOT real life. On social media, Carlos and Alexa definitely look like they have their lives together: happily married with three kids, doing what they love as their jobs, living on a beautiful island in a nice house, having strong, close friendships and family relationships, etc. When Carlos and Alexa started to talk about their stories, it really felt like they were having a one-on-one chat with me about my struggles: Alexa wanted to be seen and heard, and Carlos wanted to give up on God after a pipe burst. Celebrities are really just like us! But what’s different about Carlos and Alexa from a lot of other celebrities is how they handle their struggles, which is through their faith. At the beginning of my journey with God, I always wondered how Carlos and Alexa are able to live such perfect lives. As I continued to grow stronger in faith each day with the help of my wonderful church (and from reading this book), I figured out the answer: the PenaVegas’ lives aren’t actually perfect, but they seem perfect because they know God loves them and they can rely on God for guidance.
I read most of this book on a particularly stressful international trip where I would often be so focused in the moment that I would forget God is still there. Eventually, whenever I was able to be in a quiet place, I would remind myself that God loves me. Once I calmed my mind, I would read a chapter or two, reminding me that God can help me with all the stress and struggles I was going through. In fact, after seeing all the times Carlos and Alexa were able to solve problems by stepping aside and asking God for help, before I even finished the book, I started to pray short, quick prayers for something happening at the moment, as opposed to putting everything in my daily prayer before bed.
This book is a must-read for everyone: teens, young adults, parents, grandparents, etc. If you are going through a difficult time in life, I highly recommend this book, whether you’re Christian or not.
I started this book in the airport and read it the whole way home. Such an easy read. I really enjoyed how it went back and forth and told their story of love but also about their testimony of Christ. It was funny and so realistic. Very relatable.
I truly enjoyed reading this book. It was well written with a clear distinction between each voice. I loved learning about Carlos and Alexa each got their start in the Hollywood industry, the impact God has had on their lives as individuals and as a couple, and how they came to be the PenaVegas we know and love today. I highly recommend the book to anyone, not just fans of their past work in television, music, and movies. After reading this book, I was able to come away encouraged, inspired, and with some practical tips for my own walk as a Christian. I already pre-ordered a signed copy, and can't wait to read it all over again. I know it's a book I can pick up again when I'm feeling like I need to be encouraged and reminded that love is really the point. If you could use that reminder yourself sometimes, I highly recommend you pick up a copy. ❤️
Carlos and Alexa PenaVega have grown up in the spotlight. From starring in Big Time Rush and Spy Kids to becoming social media influences and vloggers, their careers have been full of incredible opportunities and life-changing moments; but there is one thing that makes the PenaVegas stand out — their faith!
Carlos Pena is a natural performer. With his family’s full support, he went to Hollywood to pursue acting, auditioning for roles until he was cast in the global sensation television show and boyband Big Time Rush! Yet, despite the fame and money, Carlos still felt empty. Struggling to dig himself out of a dark hole, Carlos opened his ears to the Good News of Jesus, and in just one week, his life changed forever!
Alexa Vega, best known for her role as Carmen Cortez in Spy Kids, has had an epic career. As she transformed from a child star to an adult, the world has watched how her faith has shifted her acting roles and lifestyle. It was no easy transition, though. Battling an eating disorder and healing from divorce, Alexa has had her fair share of pitfalls; nevertheless, through God’s grace and strength, she was able to stand again!
Passionate about their love of Jesus and spreading the Gospel, Carlos and Alexa PenaVega are not shy about proclaiming their faith. In their first memoir, What if Love is the Point: Living for Jesus in a Self-Consumed World, Carlos and Alexa take fans through the significant moments of their lives that revealed God’s truth and brought them to where they are today. Written with candor and heart, their message is simple: the point of this life is love… specifically, God’s love!
I’ve been excited to read this memoir since it was first announced in November 2021. Yet, I’m not going to lie; I was hoping for a few more in-depth details — BTR (the band’s reaction to Carlos’ faith and their reunion), movie roles (more highlights and other specific memories), and the reason Alexa stopped singing! Nevertheless, as I read on, I realized that the goal of this book was not to reveal all the juicy details of their lives but to encourage readers about God’s love through life events that showcased His provision and blessings. And they succeeded.
After feeling in a rut and losing my joy, Carlos and Alexa’s words were the inspiration I needed to bring my focus back to the Lord. The final chapter, especially, awakened my soul and restored the peace I’d been missing.
The PenaVega are a team! Even when they competed against one another on Dancing with the Stars and Alexa was told that she and Carlos could not win, they remained a united front! They are role models to me and millions worldwide of what godly marriage, family, and life look like. Whether you’ve been a fan of the PenaVegas since the early 2000s, or need a reminder of God’s goodness, What if Love is the Point is a fabulous testimony of God’s unfailing love.
*Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher, for providing me with a pre-release copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own!*
I LOVED this book, it was honest, raw and captivating. As huge Carlos and Alexa fans, it filled in a lot of gaps for me after watching their vlogs and television content over the years. Everyone can learn something from this book, it doesn't matter if you are religious or not!
Deeply personal and emotionally written. I am in amazement how Carlos and Alexa not only found God but prioritized their faith in all aspects of their life, all while keeping a foot in Hollywood. Their approach and extreme commitment to raising kids who love Jesus shows the depth of their beliefs. Readers will not only learn about their spiritual paths, but also how they evolved as humans who make mistakes and can change their lives and relationships for the better.
I had so many feelings while reading this book. First off, I loved how opened and honest Carlos and Alexa were about their journey in finding Christ. It was relatable and I loved that. I loved that we got to see those in the limelight aren’t as happy as they appear. It just goes to show that everyone can put on a mask when they need too. Second off, I loved seeing the authors desire to share what makes them so happy in life. I feel like a lot of people in Hollywood wouldn’t do that.
This book is definitely a change in pace from what I normally read and I loved it. Despite some hardships the authors go through, this book is a makes you feel happy book. Did it make me stop and reevaluate a few things I do? Absolutely. A good book in my opinion leaves you wanting to do better and that’s exactly what happened here.
The book switches off from Carlos’s and Alexa’s narration and I think that was a great idea. It helps with the pacing of the book(quick read). It allows you to get both sides of their journey without feeling repetitive.
These thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks NetGalley and What If Love Is The Point Launch team for the ARC.
With our daughter wanting to be in the industry this was a must read for me from the time I saw it being released.
The first pages talk of the disappointment that comes from no. But, also how when pushed, good things can still come. And when one door closes God opens another. Even when we may not know Him, He’s working for our greater good. The story starts before Carlos and Alexa met. You get the opportunity to get to know them individually.
It’s so interesting how these two lives were interwoven before they even truly knew one another.
And we all need an Andrew in our lives!!! One word answer to it all…Jesus.
I love how Carlos and Alexa’s walk with God were so different. Because no two walks are the same; but, from immediate changes or slow dimmer switch changes they were still both on fire for Jesus. Their truth of how faith can come with its up and downs.
Isn’t it funny when we tell God no…His plans play out for us anyway.
Being honest and raw. Such a humbling testimony of two people. Sharing their peeks and their valleys. Praying through it all. A wonderfully written story of two people falling in love and keeping their faith in an industry that will test it.
We’ve all been told Not to judge a book by its cover. “From the outside, my life at twenty-three looks pretty good. The inside, though, told another story.”
Life changes and hands us it’s fair share of disappointments, and these two share how they work through it all and what works for them…Love. Love is the point.
This is a wonderful book. I am a big fan of both of them. I did not want the book to stop. They put so much heart in this book. Thank you for letting me be one of the 1st to read it. I loved it. 😍📚
Carlos and Alexa PenaVega's story is about grace, love and being overcomers through Jesus.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed their story and how quickly read through it. It's genuine, loving, funny and honest. They discuss their lives starting as child actors through some of their struggles, marriage and kids. I'm sure everyone believes that their lives are perfect and they have no challenges because they are famous but they are real people just like us.
I believe their God will use their story to reach people who would typically never go to church or left it after their childhood. Their story reflects Jesus in a powerful way. I highly recommend this book.
I had the privilege of reading this book before it publicly launched. Beautifully put together; An inspiring story of Alexa and Carlos PenaVega and their walks in Faith and their growing relationships with Jesus.
As a young wife and mom to 3 young kids (I grew up in church and have had a relationship with God from early adolescence, my husband had been to church as a child but his relationship didn't start to mature until early adulthood.), this book truly resonated with me. I also enjoyed their glimpse into raising their children as young desciples. I have adopted their nightly routine (minus song, I can't carry a tune) to do with my three girls at bedtime.
This book truly was an amazing reminder to keep your eyes and heart turned to Jesus and spread His love. An encouraging and inspiring book that I enjoyed reading and will definitely read again!
First things first, this book was absolutely amazing! Thank you Alexa and Carlos for taking time to sharing such a beautiful and inspiring story! Once I started reading, “What if Love is the Point?” I did not want to put it down!
I have always been a huge fan of Alexa’s since she stared in Spy Kids and of Carlos’ since Big Time Rush. To be honest I do not have a strong relationship with God. Though, I do have a strong relationship with my belief in spirit. With that being said, reading about the different life experiences both Alexa and Carlos had and how their relationship with God helped guide them in the direction to be the best version of themselves was beautifully written and you could relate with the different experiences on some level. Reading about Carlos and Alexa’s love for each other and how it continues to grow is so beautiful and inspiring. In the words written you can feel the passion and respect they have for one another.
“The world was seeing us as the strong team that we were. We were one and we were proud to be one.”
“I don’t know how he could have assessed the situation in the blink of an eye, but that man’s strong embrace was exactly what I needed. As were the laughter and tears.”
I also enjoyed reading this book because we are receiving two different viewpoints on how Alex and Carlos individually, as a couple, and as a family grew and continue to grow within their faith and relationship with God.
“And the surprise that I’d discover, that may not be a surprise for you, was that in letting go, I received so much more than I could have imagined.”
This book was phenomenal! Alexa and Carlos really opened up my eyes in realizing that I need to give more to God and talk to him more. I love how they separated the chapters which each one is telling their story. They go through their younger years into their adult years and even discuss the challenges each faced. It was refreshing to know and understand that they are faithful but in some cases it took certain situations to help them get to where they are today. God truly has been there in the moments that they least expected, and that is something I can honestly relate too. But although they discuss their faith and God's love, you don't have to be a Christian to read it. It's a book that can be read by anyone and will teach anyone life long lessons.
This was a fantastic dual memoir that made religion feel accessible even to non-Christians. I loved getting to know more about the backgrounds of both authors and also learning how they apply their Christianity to every day situations. I really hope they write more books together, this one went by too fast!
We all know celebrities have entire lives we may never see. it is part of the draw for paparazzi's right?
We become attached to their characters and we assume their everyday behavior is right on par with how they are on our TV screens. But we all know that isn't the case! The true person, the celebrity, is usually not anything like their character and many times we are surprised to see behind the scenes.
With Alexa and Carlos, they have had multiple characters to follow and many times I thought, "there is no way that is how they really act." But to my surprise they are a fully themselves on their social media pages. Never embarrassed to show their family and answer some off the wall questions.
Now insert their new book, and WOW!! Their entire life story is an open book, literally.
Hearing from Carlos about striving for years to just be turned down multiple times. Alexa talking about her mom's connections. How they both found themselves in situations that they could never have been imagined just to find that God was waiting on the other side.
Reading the ups and downs in a way you could see in your mind. Reading time and time again they both made terrible decisions but always found their way back.
This book makes you question your own past, look at your current behaviors from a new perspective and run toward the future with a new outlook!!
This book is like a refreshing glass of ice water while hiking on a hot, sunny day. The vulnerability of both Carlos and Alexa helps to highlight the rest and peace available to us through Jesus even in the midst of our hard things. The bravery they showed by telling us such intimate stories of their struggles is astounding. They have allowed God into their stories and are now allowing Him to use them in even deeper ways in the lives of anyone who reads this book. As you read you can feel the comfort and security that they have grown to know in Christ. I am encouraged, I feel a renewed desire for deeper relationship with Him, and a fire in me ready to burst out in love for the people around me. Most of all I am thankful for the PenaVega’s willingness to let us all into their lives so that we can grow and know the Lord just as they have. They are right, love is the point. I highly recommend this book.
I had the opportunity to be apart of the launch team for “What if Love is the Point” and this is what I gotta say about the book. This is one of the best books I have read!! It was really amazing and I loved it so much!! If there was an option I would definitely give the book 10 stars but there’s not, so I’m giving it 5 stars!! I have known Carlos from Big time rush, Alexa from the spy kids Movies and them both from their Hallmark Movie ”Love at sea” And when I learned that they were lovers of god like me, I got excited! I loved the different stories Carlos and Alexa told about how god has been part of their lives!!! And it has really Helped me in ways!! I do want to thank Carlos and Alexa because before I read the book I wasn’t really being active as much on Sundays with my church! But Alexa and Carlos have really gave me the motivation to try to be more active on Sundays with my church! So thank you Carlos and Alexa. With reading this book I felt really connected to what they were sharing!! And I got to learn more about them as a couple and individuals!!! This book will definitely be one I will want to read over and over and I know you will love this book as much as I did!!
As I started typing this up I was actually at a church lesson at my bishops house and I would like to share this message someone shared at the end of the lesson which is,
“God is our father, we are his children and he will help us make the right decisions”
This really stuck out to me and I hope it will stick out to you too and I wanted to share this because I feel like it sums up parts of what Alexa and Carlos shares.
Once again this was an amazing book and I know you’ll love it as much as I did.
God is love, Love is the point.
This book didn't take me long to read, not because it was easy reading, but because it was that good! I was picking it up every time I had a spare minute. It was refreshing to read both author's points of view, thank you for keeping us informed in the chapter titles who was speaking! Alexa and Carlos were real with the good and the bad that has brought them to where they are now. My biggest takeaway was the phrase "reliably present" in reference to their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Yes, He was reliably present even when Lex and Los were not looking for Him, but when they chose to seek Him, now they can sense His presence through every part of their lives. Is everything perfect for the two of them? Certainly not, and neither is it for us, but He will give us peace through all of it. Definitely a book I will be sharing with friends and family. Side note: not just a book for young couples and families, all ages can enjoy and learn from the PenaVega's. Love is the point - in all relationships and all areas of our lives.
Inspirational. That is the one word that I would use to describe this AMAZING book! No matter what you are needing guidance on in your life right now, you will find it, along with understanding, connection, and encouragement, along with many other things, right here in this book.
If you are looking for encouragement to dive into a deeper relationship with God, then look no further. Hearing Carlos talk about the struggles of using drugs and trying to find peace in objects that left him feeling empty, to hearing Alexa talk about her eating disorder that stemmed from being a woman in the industry and how that plagued her for so long, and then hearing their stories of how once they found God they were delivered from it all, and seeing how it impacted their lives for the better, will make you DESIRE to dive deeper into the Bible and grow your relationship with God more than ever before! Through the thick and the thin they talk about how God was with them through it all and how even at the darkest times they still knew he was there because 'It's not like God makes bad things happen to you. That's not what he does.'(WILITP? Book) Hearing all the great and amazing ways God has worked into their lives once they made room for Him will inspire you to want to reach out to Him too to accept His love that he has waiting for you just as they did and I trust them when they say that you won't regret it.
If you are looking for encouragement to get married with God's blessings, then look no further. The story of Carlos and Alexa's marriage is one for the ages in the Christian community. They started out their marriage in learning and growing in their faith in God together and it has only made them stronger. 'For us, marriage was that place where each of us was becoming the best version of ourselves, with the help of God and each other, and we welcomed the opportunity to witness the goodness of the gift God offers..'(WILITP? Book) They also talk about how so many people and things nowadays try to put a Godly marriage down, when in fact it is the most wonderful kind of marriage! Hearing them talk about how their relationship has thrived and grown with God at the center makes me want to try to implement that more into my marriage (which is not even a full month in yet!), so that we can continue to grow stronger as a couple, continue to push each other to be the best versions of ourselves that we can be, and to make sure that we are always each other's best friend and confidant, along with God, to keep our marriage, and ourselves, happily fulfilled. I can see that if my spouse and I dive deeper into our faith, that our marriage will only benefit!
If you are looking for encouragement to have kids and start a family, then look no further. Reading about how having children affected Carlos and Alexa's relationship made me feel a little less nervous than I originally was about having kids of my own because they talk about how, through God, it is a blessing that we are able to have children and raise them in a way that represents how He 'raises' us in our faith and following of Him. In this book Carlos and Alexa talk about how being a parent has 'taught Lex and I more about God than we could have imagined.....And when they choose to do wrong? When they choose to sin? When they mess up? Yeah, it's frustrating. And we let them know, plainly, that it's wrong. But we never stop loving them with our whole hearts. And when they turn to us and say, "I'm sorry, that was wrong," we are eager to answer, "Forgiven. Now that you know that, let's move forward." Because of our kids we get these glimpses into Gods heart for Los and Lex.'(WILITP? Book) The ways in which they talk about raising their children and how God plays a huge roll in it makes His connection to us even more understandable because we love our children unconditionally like God loves us and so we should raise them up as he has raised us up.
Point being, if you are looking for a book that will inspire you in more ways than one when it comes to your personal and/or professional life, or even just some advice on how to strengthen your relationship with God or how to handle family matters, the best advice that you will get, that is TRULY heartfelt and sincere with your best interest in mind, go no further without reading this AMAZING book! 100% RECOMMENDED!!!
I’m not much of a reader but “What If Love Is The Point” book is one’s of those books where you just can’t put it down you say one more chapter and it keeps turning into one more and before you know it you’ve finished the whole book. This particular book was very honest and so well written Lex and Los were brave they shared there struggles and how they over came it by putting their faith in god and in each other They talked about what makes them the most happy in life, some awesome parenting tips and so much more! Los & Lex seem like such patient and understanding people. They way they talk about there kids and how they talk them through things to help them understand what’s going on completely melts my heart (I’m someone who works with kids specifically toddlers so this just makes me happy) I love how in the book they each have there own chapters then for the final chapter they both spoke together. There words were powerful and though everyone’s story is different what they said was so impactful and even in negative situation they reminded positive overcame things by never losing faith and leaning on each other for support. I admire them so much.
You may recognize Carlos and Alexa PenaVega from Hallmark movies like I did which turned me onto to learning more and wanting to read this book in the first place. I didn’t even realize the many other things that both of them starred in not to mention how they even got their start in the limelight of movies and sitcoms. I have a great appreciation now knowing what they went through and how they came to the place they are in today not just with their careers and personally but also spiritually.
This book not only is a really simple and fast read for anyone that may not have a lot of extra time, but it is so easy to relate to whether you are single, married, or a parent. Whether you are a Christian today or not, this book will help connect you with how being one really can change your life. It is a blessing.
My favorite part of this book is the last chapter where it pulls in all of the wonderful points of how to live a life of love in so many different aspects of life. I truly felt warm feelings with those beautiful words of expression, and they made me evaluate how I can incorporate those into my life. I felt myself highlighting the words through many of their chapters that showed encouragement and true words of wisdom not only from the Bible but from their experiences. Life is not always easy, but when you have the right attitude and strength in God it can be definitely more bearable.
The realness of how Carlos and Alexa expressed their journeys in life before and after meeting one another just gave me a deeper appreciation of who they are. Their deep love for God and one another is a true testament to what it means that ‘two are better than one”. I cannot wait to see more from them on the big screen and hopefully within print. Thank you for sharing your stories and in such a meaningful way!
I did not want to put this book down. I read it from cover to cover within 30 hours, while being a working mom, and full time student. That should tell you something about how engaging, captivating and honest this book really is. I have been following Carlos and Alexa since they got married and it has been refreshing to know more about their inner struggles and to know that no matter what I am going through and that even "famous" people who seem to have it all together, we are all the same. We are all human and in need of Jesus! This was a simple read, and I am already encouraging my family and friends to pick up a copy as well! This is a well written, honest story about how they came to find Jesus, themselves and each other! I highly recommend!
I will admit I don’t read a lot of non-fiction work; however, once I started What If Love is the Point, I could not put it down. I’ve been a fan of Alexa and Carlos for years and it was so interesting to get to know them a little more through this book. I loved reading about their journey so far and I just loved their journey’s getting to know Jesus stronger. I’m not famous, I am not in the entertainment business, but somehow, they made their journey so relatable. One of my favorite parts of the book was near the end where Alexa is talking about how she had made her list for things that she wanted (specifically in a boyfriend/husband) but really God has His list for us and that applies in all areas of life. I love this point that God loves us no matter what, no matter where we are, and we can try and have our own list of things we want to do or what we see for ourselves in a partner, but God knows what’s best for us and we need to give it up to Him and trust in Him. I highly recommend this book.
I was so excited to get stuck into this book, as I was a big fan of Big Time Rush when I was younger and also grew up watching the Spy Kids movies. It is so beautiful to hear about Carlos and Alexa's testimonies and have them share their faith and their stories so boldly and authentically. There were a lot of really good takeaways that can be applied to my own life and relationships.
Thank you to the authors, NetGalley and the publisher for the complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
