Her husband has been involuntarily missing for eight years and now in response to more urgent pleas by those she loves, she has made the move to have him declared dead. On the way out of court her husband's best friend/lawyer hands he an envelope from him. From then on her life changes in more ways than anyone can imagine. There is a journal written by a young American Civil War soldier, and then she actually is visited by his shade (this makes her crazier than she needs to be) and she shares all this with her brother. There are many other characters and all of them are so realistic. There are bad people involved as well as a possible romance, but no spoilers here. A good read!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book from The Wild Rose Press, Inc via NetGalley. Thank you!
A light, easy and enjoyable read. I am only giving it 4 stars as I guessed (rightly) very early on what was happening and that rather spoilt the reading pleasure. Nevertheless, I would recommend this book as something distracting to read when you need a change.
This book grabbed my attention right away…a mystery with an intriguing American Civil War diary tie-in and a hint of romance. The story develops quickly, and I found myself invested in the main character, Janie, and her quest to bring closure to the disappearance of her husband. The author brings the reader along in her life-altering journey...and people are not always what they seem. Lots of plot twists and turns that kept me turning to the next page. Lovely book cover, too! I would recommend it to readers who like mystery, history, and family stories.
Thank you to NetGalley, The Wild Rose Press, and Terry Segan for the DRC!
