The writing is all "The Silent Patient" vibes!

Though with a different plot though. An unreliable narrator, a psychiatrist not too sure about their capabilities, a missing husband, hidden affairs and a dirty secret.

So you have to keep guessing. The writing is good. I would say the writing is fun and a much needed entertaining thrilling read. However, the twist did not surprise me much.

If you're someone who would like to read a short, fun psychological thriller you can go for this one.

Thank you, BooksGoSocial, for the advance reading copy.

A fast, thrilling read thst hold you till the very end. Great characters. Kept me guessing wondering if I needed a therapist too. Great twist to the end that kinda heads in that direction but still is such a great thrill ride.

Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an early release of this book.

HOLY F@CK!NG $H!T OAJOFAFLMSMFMFKSSF!!!!!! BANGER ALERT!!!!

Writing: 5 mf stars out of 5 | Plot: 4.5/5 | Endning: 4.5/5

THE PLOT

Sophie is seeing psychiatrist Dr. Thacker to help her cope with the disappearance of her husband and the feeling that someone is watching her. Where is her husband? And is she really being watched? FIND OUT.

MY OPINION

WOOOOOOOOOWWW. I am literally speechless. I don't want to give too much away because it will ruin the book, so JUST FKING READ IT YOURSELF. Maybe I am a BIG dummy, but I did NOT expect that. I actually had to double back and check.... I was like NAH, she didn't... but oh yes she did. BRAVO J.E. Rowney.

Yes, this will give you The Silent Patient vibes... But the twist is JUICY. I'm giving this 5 fat ass stars because the author showed her SKILL. Enough said.

This is a short book and you might find yourself wondering when tf something is gonna pop off. It seems like you're going in circles for awhile. But keep on keeping on, because it is WORTH IT in the end.

That's really all I can say. Maybe you'll clock it earlier than I did because of this review, and if you do, I apologize. I tried to keep this as vague as possible. But I went in Helen Keller blind and this was a BANGER of a reveal. Love the execution.

PROS AND CONS

Pros: absolutely blindsided by the reveal... causing me to go HUH??? and run it back so I could see how she pulled it off

Cons: the rest of the ending was too neatly wrapped up, but I'm still giving 5 stars based on how Rowney executed

This was a quick, easy read that I couldn't put down. It is well written with a gripping storyline and well developed characters. The narrative is compelling, made even more so by an unreliable narrator and twists and unpredictability that left me on the edge of my seat. I really liked it.

I am editing my original review thanks to my pal Pink that so kindly clarified my confusion and in doing so I am adding a star to this! Thanks, Pink! 😘

A short, fast paced, twisty little thriller.

Sophie's husband Jack has gone missing during an expedition in the Artic. Now she finds herself seeking therapy from Dr. Thacker because she feels she is being followed everywhere she goes. Is she still wallowing in her grief or is there are real threat to be faced?

Dr. Thacker is a psychiatrist that seems to need a lot of therapy himself. He's become obsessed with Sophie and would like to become more than just her therapist.

Jonah Washington is another patient of Dr. Thacker with his OCD and binge eating he bores him to tears but this is his job and he'll do it to the best of his ability.

This book was moving right along at a quick clip and I was 100% invested in the outcome of this novel and that's where this one let me down because I was left with more questions than answers. Even after reading the last few chapters again I still can't make any sense of it. But, but, but....

The truth is the author played me like a fiddle which I didn't realize was happening. Now isn't that a sign of good writing and clever wordplay? Yes, it is! Pink so kindly enlightened me on what happened and it all makes so much more sense now.

If you like twists, turns, and tricksy writing then grab a copy and enjoy this topsy-turvy ride! 4 stars!

Underlying Menace…
Is Sophie Portman losing her mind? She’s lost her husband. So, it’s entirely possible she thinks. Seeking the help of psychiatrist Andrew Thacker feels like the right thing to do. Isn’t it? The trouble is that when things begin to emerge, there’s no stopping them and nothing is quite as it seems. A slow burn suspense racked with tension, told effectively with the use of multiple narratives and with an always underlying sense of menace. Credible and tense.

I loved this book! Maybe I can finally think about something else now that I’ve finished it. Geez. My whole life was wrapped up in this book for the past few days. Every spare second I had was spent reading this.

Sophie’s husband, Jack, has been missing since he left for a trip to Russia. And now, since Jack’s disappearance, somebody is following Sophie….maybe. Is it her missing husband? Is it a stalker? She thinks she’s going crazy and finally decides to visit a psychiatrist. But Dr. Thacker has a few issues of his own and doesn’t appear to be of much help to her.

Sophie writes Jack letters to help her sort through her feelings, however, she never sends them. She puts them in a drawer thinking she’ll give them to Jack when and if he returns. She feels closer to him when writing her thoughts out and it gives us readers a glimpse into their life prior to Jack leaving.

The back and forth narrative in this book works perfectly to weave this psychological thriller into a perfect story of suspense. I was kept guessing until the very end. I was blissfully confused and entertained throughout. I happily give this 5 stars.

Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC of this book. This is my honest review.

This book has me completely submerged into it the entire time. From beginning to end. I am so shocked by the twists, still sitting here thinking about it in awe. I absolutely loved this and all the twists I could've never guessed, especially the twist at the ending. 5 stars! Amazing writing and such an intense build up of suspense as you read the book.

This ARC was given to me from NetGalley and the publishers to read/review plus give my personal opinions on this book. All statements above are my own and based solely on my own opinions after reading the book.

I found myself thinking about this book a lot even after I read it. And if that is not a testament to how good this book was then I don't know what is. I was shocked and intrigued by all the twists and turns. The writing was very engaging. Easy 5 star.

No. NOOOO. THE LEVEL OF GENIUS CANNOT EXIST!! Holy mother of WHAT!!!! I just finished this book and I am REELING. I have no words but at the same time I want to non stop rant about how unbelievably ridiculously brilliant this book is. JE Rowney is undeniably a mastermind. I was so blown away at the end that I had to go all the way back to the start and yes…. brilliance confirmed.

THE STORY: so obviously this is one of those the less you know the better the ride is. So I won’t divulge much the synopsis is all you need. Sophie is seeing a psychiatrist because she misses her husband and has this feeling she’s being watched. Boom that’s literally all you need. Why? Because the twists (that no matter how much you try to analyze you won’t get it) are worth every glorious read word!!!

READ. IT. An absolute must read and a definite addition to my favorites.

“ listen carefully - watch closely - trust nobody”

Other People's Lives is a therapist/patient story. The patient, Sophie Portman, seeks the help of a therapist, Andrew Thacker, after losing her husband. She believes someone is following her. Is it real? Is it all in her head? You really don't know until the very end! The majority of the book is told by the mysterious narrator, and Sophie's POV through letters to her missing husband.

The first 60% of the book was a slow build. J.E. Rowney brilliantly gives you little crumbs of the story for you to piece together. You're left with a flurry of theories. One theory had me thinking, "Could it be....?" and the very next page, that theory was shot down like she could actually read my mind. Then suddenly you are side swiped with a twist that will really make your head spin. When I say I FLEWWW through the last 40% of the book. I just had to see how it all wrapped up. I just finished the last page. And I still have questions. Questions that I dare not speak due to spoilers. But after you've read it. Message me. Let's chat.

If you're into psychological thrillers, this one is for you. This is one I'd absolutely reread now that I know the twist. I'm sure reading it the second time will have an entirely different feel. Excellent read.

I liked the fact that this was a short story. But it still packed a mighty punch. It was well written and a good storyline. I enjoyed it.

A story of obsession and the things people do for undying love. After a slow start I was urged to keep going by all of the amazing five star reviews. There was a boiling tension throughout the story and I couldn't wait to read how it all ended. When the big reveal was unveiled, I was in complete shock. I definitely didn't see that coming. A short read with lots of unreliable characters and a massive dose of ultimate revenge. Make sure you read til the very last line.

Although this starts off slow, I really enjoyed this quick, thrilling read. The twist, wow, I didn't see that coming AT ALL! If you want a book that you can read in about two sittings, this is for you. It will throw your mind for a big loop!

Well, I didn't see that ending coming!

This is the story of Sophie who's husband went missing months before, on a trip to Russia doing the job he loved.
Sophie is finding his disappearance hard to come to terms with, thinking she's being stalked, seeing him everywhere, so starts to see a therapist.
The book flows between Sophie writing letters to her husband, seeing her therapist, and her therapist looking forward to and wanting to see Sophie.

I thought I'd guessed about halfway through what had happened to her husband, but I was completely wrong!

Thank you to Netgalley for letting me read the advanced copy.

A puzzling mystery with characters that come alive. No one is who they appear to be.
The ending completely gob-smacked me!

Sophie's husband is missing and her life went with him. When she starts to think someone is
stalking her she reluctantly tries therapy, not sure if she is actually being stalked or has gone crazy.

Layer by layer J.E. Rowney draws you in and makes you suspect you know exactly how this will end. And yet the more you know about Sophie's marriage, her contented life, and her secrets, the more unsure you become.

WOW! I read this book in under 3 hours over the weekend and I am still thinking about it! Nothing is what is seems in this book! NOTHING! I was beyond floored with the twist at the end! What a mind F@*#!! This author is brilliant for pulling off what she did!

I don’t want to give too much away so I am just going to post the synopsis:

THE SILENT PATIENT MEETS GONE GIRL

“Let me ask you. Are you worried that someone is watching you, or are you worried that you think someone is watching you?”

Sophie Portman has lost her husband, and she thinks she may be losing her mind.

She seeks the help of psychiatrist Andrew Thacker, but as she starts to open up, the truth begins to unravel and nothing is quite as it seems.

This is a short read that will leave you with your head spinning!

Other people’s lives were never as interesting as ours. I think that is an important line to pay attention to in this book. Jack, a geologist who is married to Sophie, an English teacher, has left to go to the Arkhangelsk (see below; I had to look this up 💁🏻‍♀️) and disappears. Sophie, a hermit, begins seeing her therapist Jack about the feeling of constantly being followed, and Jack becomes obsessed with her. But he’s not the one following her. Is she being followed? Or is she crazy?
This book is a short, quick, fast-paced, and thrilling book.
Pay attention to the word setup and pronouns in this book; it will help solve the twist at the end. I had to ask a friend💕 to ensure I had it right.

Arkhangelsk, also known in English as Archangel and Archangelsk, is a city and the administrative center of Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia. It lies on both banks of the Northern Dvina near its exit into the White Sea. The city spreads for over 40 kilometres along the banks of the river and numerous islands of its delta.

'𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆'𝒔 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏 𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒆. 𝑨𝒍𝒍 𝒘𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒊𝒔 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒑𝒆𝒐𝒑𝒍𝒆'𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔.'

Nearly seven months after her husband has been missing, Sophie Portman believes she is losing her mind. She senses somebody watching her, just that she doesn't have any proof of it. When the cops too dismiss her concerns, she approaches Dr. Thacker, a psychiatrist, to get help for her paranoia. And yet that niggling feeling persists. Is she being delusional or is someone really stalking Sophie Portman?

For the most part, this is a slow-paced novel and it is only after 65% that the plot twists set in; they just catch you off-guard. Though much of the plot consists of Sophie's ramblings to Jack via her letters and to her psychiatrist during her therapy sessions, the writing has an arresting quality to it that makes you want to unravel all the secrets that the characters seem to be hiding. Add to this the short length of the story, and you are guaranteed to finish it in a few hours time.

Overall, a compelling read with an unexpected ending. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a digital copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

✨ BOOK REVIEW ✨
HELP ME THIS BOOK HAS ME SHOOK.

THE OTHER PEOPLE’S LIVES will be published April 22.

The TLDR plot: Sophie Portman lost her husband. Now is she losing her mind? She sees Dr. Andrew Thacker and as the sessions progress, in true thriller fashion, when the truth starts coming out SHIT GOES DOWN.

Oh my God. Oh my God. I just CANNOT. I was so intrigued with the story and devoured 75% of it in less than a day. I thought I had everything figured out but then the twist happened and I was like 👁👄👁

I literally cannot say too much about this book because it’ll be spoiled but LEMME TELL YOU, THIS BOOK SHOULD NOT BE MISSED.

Preorder it. Beg your library for it. Stalk Audible for it. Just get it somehow. I promise, it’s 200% worth it.

First, I want to thank JE Rowney, BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for this book so I can bring you this review.

WOW!! JE Rowney has found her niche in writing Psychological Thrillers! Other People’s Lives was really twisted!! It is unlike any book she has ever written and one of her best. You definitely need to put this on your TBR list!

JE Rowney starts off Other People’s Lives in such a unique way. We get to read a letter from Sophie to her missing husband Jack. It was one of the many things that hooked me into the book. Throughout the book we see other letters she writes to him.

I was seriously at the edge of my seat as I needed to know the big secret of what actually happened to Jack. As the story unfolded I was left speechless at the twists and turns!

Mental Health is a huge topic that is so incredibly important in JE Rowney’s Other People’s Lives. I love how she brings awareness to many specific Mental Health Issues.

I really liked this! It felt really ominous and moody, and I kept guessing where it was going, then BAM the twist. THE TWIST! Loved it so much. One of my FAVORITE twists when done right, and it was done right!!

I have no idea what I just read, and it's best for you to go in knowing the bare minimum. Nothing is as it seems in this book.

Sophie has lost her husband and she seeks the advice of a therapist because she feels like someone is watching her. It takes her a while to open up to her doctor, and we find out more in the letters she writes to her absent husband, who has seemingly vanished after winning a prestigious temporary job offer in another country.

Seemingly vanished. Remember, nothing is at it seems. I read the ending twice to make sure I understood.

From the book blurb: "Sophie Portman has lost her husband, and she thinks she may be losing her mind. She seeks the help of psychiatrist Andrew Thacker, but as she starts to open up, the truth begins to unravel and nothing is quite as it seems."

I hesitate to add any more to the description or to say much about the story for fear of spoiling anything. You really need to read it for yourself but make sure you pay close attention. You really have to wonder how the author managed to keep it all straight in her head so that it made sense on paper or whatever! This is my first experience of this author but I'll definitely be looking at more of her work.

A big thank-you to BooksGoSocial via Netgalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

This book was great, but it needed a longer ending. Everything was going at a great pace before the last couple of chapters rushed to the end. Because of this, I gave this book 4 instead of 5 stars.

This was a short novel, coming in at less than 200 pages. My general rule thumb is that I like my books to be between 300 - 500 pages. Anything less than this can be difficult to make the characters believable and give the plot substance. Anything more can oftentimes be rambling and overly-wordy.

However, like all rules of thumb, there are exceptions and this is definitely one of them. What I loved about this story was that it grabbed you right away, you have a premise of a missing husband, a seemingly unreliable narrating wife, a dodgy therapist and a whole lot more.

Within the 180-odd pages, the story moves along quickly and I defy anyone to read this in more than one sitting. Go on, try it, I dare you to put it down before the ending. Yeah, didn't think so!

A really brilliant effort from J.E. Rowney and definitely an author that is now on my TBR list.

Thanks to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The different narratives in this book kept disturbing my flow whilst reading and I had to think a lot about it. I wasn’t too keen on the style. However, I enjoyed the plot once I got my head around it all.

Scramble My Peeps & Bop The Bunnies! 😯😳😯🤯😳

What. The. Fluffin'. Fluff! 😳 Unholy moly cannoli! Geez almighty I was totally thrown for a massive loop! This is one thriller that absolutely reels you in from the first page! Just over half way through and you'll hit your first jaw-drop mind shocker! & the rest are continuous crazy beyond words moments!
Sophie feels as though she's loosing her mind as she thinks & feels someone is constantly watching and following her. So she finally agrees to be referred to a psychiatrist. Cue in Dr. Thacker. Dr. Thacker is determined to help her get better after the disappearance of her husband Jack. But as their sessions go and Sophie starts to open up more the truth may not be so clear cut.
The ending will have you asking, "wait. What?!" Although I wish the ending hadn't been quite as rushed as I felt it was, I still adored this book! A real psychological thriller with amazing suspense to keep you guessing & unsure. The dark twisted reveals, craziness & absolutely WTF is generous in this novel. Trust no one. 😳

Other People's Lives (J. E. Rowney) gives us a look into (mainly) two lives, the psychiatrist, Thacker and his patient, Sophie. It seems that in some ways the doctor needs a psychiatrist more than the patient does. Does Doctor Thacker have an obsession with Sophie?I want to thank NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for an early copy to review.

This is a book I got via NetGalley. It will be published in April this year. It's Other People's Lives by @jerowneywriter

The book starts with a letter meant for Jack written by Sophie. It's her husband and he is missing. It's been months and she is seeing a therapist because of it. A big part of the book is built up like this: first a letter, from Sophie's perspective and then a chapter from the therapy session from the therapist's perspective. Eventually a few more characters are introduced which leaves you truly questioning whether you missed clues in the first part of the book.

The book has a very interesting base from which the story evolves. The start gives you an insight into the lives of Jack and Sophie and of the therapist. And then it evolves and you really need to pay attention. You are expecting twists of course, but these twists did surprise me! It had Gone Girl vibes, but with a nice twist to it.

Everyone who's into psychological thrillers with a twist will love this.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with the ARC ebook copy of this book 🖤

Wow, this was a roller coaster of emotions! I went in this book not expecting much, and I was gripped and hooked right from the page one. The plot is easy to follow, yet twisty in places you are never expecting them to be. The atmosphere is incredibly chilling so you just can't put it down. I'm glad I gave this book a go!

I was given the opportunity to read this as an ARC thanks to NetGalley!
This novel was a slow burn, but I couldn't put it down or stop thinking about it! Every time I thought I had it figured out, as to what happened to Sophie's husband, a phrase or chapter ending paragraph threw a wrench into my thought process and steered it in another direction. I don't read too many psychological thrillers that still keep me guessing up until the very end, this one I had figured out within the last couple chapters, but it was still amazing. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoyed The Silent Patient!

This was a great book!
Such an easy, quick read, I raced through it desperate to find out what was going on.
Told from the perspectives of Sophie through letters to her missing husband Jack and her psychiatrist Doctor Thacker, you don’t really find out what’s going on until the very end.
I had no idea how it would end and although I thought the twist was very good, it was a little bit too rushed, making it slightly unbelievable to me.
Still, I really enjoyed it! This is the first book I’ve read by this author and it definitely won’t be the last!

This one was an absolute blast!

The story of Sophie whos husband has recently left her, she thinks someone is watching her and decides to visit psychiatrist Andrew Thacker as she feels she is losing her mind.

Told from both points of view this is and absolute blast of a read as you try to figure out what is the truth and what is lies. Just as you think you are getting a handle on things - BANG! the author pulls the rug from under your feet yet again. I have a sore butt from the amount of times I landed on it reading this book.

Unreliable narrators x 2 makes this a real page turner as it slowly gets darker and darker.
At his heart its a book about rejection and loss but it is wrapped up in the most deliciously twisted and fascinating story. I would imagine the author had great fun writing this book.

An easy 5 stars for me. The best fun Ive had reading aa book in a long while.

Thanks to the publisher for the ARC through Netgalley.

HOLY CRAP!! My mind is completely fried at the moment! This book was CRAZY good and completely not what I expected. When I read all of the good reviews and saw that this was akin to The Silent Patient, I knew that I had to jump on the chance to read this asap! All I have right now is WOW! Let me start by saying that this is NOT The Silent Patient. The only similarities are the doctor/patient relationship and secrets. Lots and lots of secrets! It was a quick read and very fast paced. This book was brilliantly written with mind blowing WTF moments. You'll think that you have it all figured out but guess again!!

Other People's Lives was a clever, psychological thriller that will reel you in from the beginning and will not let you go! I was completely obsessed with this book! The ending was spectacular but wrapped up a little too nicely. One of the characters owes me an explanation!!! This is why I only gave 4 stars. I needed just a little bit more. But if you are a psychological thriller fan, you definitely have to read this book. I highly recommend it!!

Thank you to the author, BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for allowing me to preview this eARC in exchange for my review.

📚 Book Review 📚 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Other People’s Lives by JE Rowney

Sophie’s husband has been missing for months and she feels like someone is watching her 😳 She goes to see a psychiatrist who knows that she is lying about her husband. Will the truth come out?

The book bounces from Sophie writing letters to her missing husband and her therapist who is clearly infatuated with her and then it takes a turn and everything changes. You’ll read this story fast because it has you wanting to know more! I felt the ending was rushed and I was a little disappointed that someone didn’t play more of a role than they could have in the end but overall it was a good read. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC!! #NetGalley #otherpeopleslives

Are you ever worried someone is watching you? Do you ever get the feeling someone is looking at you and you turn to see no one there?? Does it feel like someone is following your every move and you can’t explain it???

This is Sophie Portman’s life, she is convinced - or thinks she’s convinced - no she’s convinced… someone is ‘Watching Her’. She has reported it to the police but there is no evidence, but she can see him… can’t she… is she losing her mind? Sophie has lost her husband and now feels like she’s slowly losing her mind - no way, someone is following her…. Aren’t they??

Sophie seeks the professional assistance of Dr Andrew Thacker a psychiatrist whose job it is to help Sophie come to terms with these feelings she’s having - that started directly after she lost her husband. Dr Thacker is here to help Sophie with her delusions - or is someone watching her? Other People’s Lives are just so interesting is someone watching everyone somewhere?

As Sophie begins to open up the truth is coming out thread by thread and nothing is as it seems - are you watching carefully????

Wowser, this is a quick read I was 80% done in a couple of hours, the sentences and chapters are refreshingly short and the story is interesting. The story is told via letters from Sophie to her lost husband and through the POV of Sophie’s visits to the therapist and her life. I do not want to give anything away because if the twist is spoilt the book is spoilt…

You will go HUH hang on… What did I just read around the 80% mark… you might track back and try to figure out… my suggestion read on… roll into the story… read to the end then stop….. process and go back and read bits and pieces where you think but wasn’t that… or didn’t so and so say…. AND THEREIN LIES THE GENIUS OF THIS BOOK.

You think you have it all figured out… I know I did. What amazing writing and I was suckered in from the get go… I had to know what was going on… Sophie’s crazy right… sure…. OR is someone watching her…. Read the book it wont take long… Once you have read it you could go back and read it again and feel the WTF feeling I felt when I re-read some parts.

I do think the ending was a little sharp and neat but I didn’t mind - it was worth it, a definite recommended read - do it!!!

Thank you to BooksGoSocial, NetGalley and the author for this advanced copy for my honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I thought I'll read one chapter before I go to bed but I immediately got hooked. Couldn't put it down and instead stayed up to finish the book. There were so many twists and turns. Didn't see the ending coming.

I had been seeing this book all over the place, so I was a little skeptical about all of the raving reviews. But I was very surprised when it knocked it out of the park! This book is everything you could ask for in a psychological thriller. The twists, how everything tied together…perfect!

This book has been compared to the Silent Patient and I definitely got those vibes while reading! This plot is different, though, and I really enjoyed how it played out. This is a short psychological thriller that you'll devour in one sitting. At one point I had a "what" moment, and once I picked my jaw up off the floor I had to go back and re-read certain excerpts to make sure I was understanding correctly what was happening. Yes, I was fooled, and I absolutely love when that happens! Secrets, a missing husband, a psychiatrist with hidden motives? What more could one ask for.

Thriller of a book. Thank you for the opportunity for this! I was able to figure out bits of the book still enjoyed it though!

I don't have the words to express how much I loved this book. "Other People's Lives" kept me on the edge of my seat since it is a fast-moving book with lots of twists and turns. It took me a couple of moments to wrap my brain around the ending but once I did...I was speechless. There are lots of comparisons to "The Silent Patient" and that means rather fair to me. I loved "The Silent Patient" and loved this one also. People who like psychological thrillers will love this one. Thanks for the advance review copy.

Shades of The Silent Patient and Gone Girl!

Sophie has been having a very difficult time coping ever since her husband went missing seven months ago. Jack, a geologist and frequent adventurer, was awarded a key expedition to take place in Russia. The problem is, he hasn't been seen since. Sophie is certain someone is watching her. Could it be Jack? She writes letters to her husband, seals them and puts them in a drawer. Unable to work, she has taken a leave of absence from her teaching position.

She seeks psychiatric help from Dr. Thacker, an unreliable, perplexing, and very creepy narrator. He asks Sophie, “Let me ask you. Are you worried that someone is watching you, or are you worried that you think someone is watching you?”

Other People's Lives is a very slow burn, which plods along like a fact finding mission, at first. Stay with it. Rowney expertly, and quite neatly, lays out out all the clues and puzzle pieces in three POVs - pay attention, and wait for the explosive finale. A rare treat of a twist, not to be missed. Loved it.

My gratitude to NetGalley, J.E. Rowney, and Books Go Social, for the opportunity to read this fabulous ARC in exchange for my honest and wholly independent review,

Other People's Lives

listen carefully

watch closely

trust no one

A mantra to read by.

Sophie Portman is having a hard time coping with the disappearance of her husband, Jack, during a work expedition.

Sophie decides to see a shrink hoping she can deal with the loss of her husband and the paranoia of being watched. As she opens up to her shrink, the layers of her story begin to unravel to an ending, I did not see coming.

A very fast-paced, short but compelling read that kept me wanting to unravel the mystery behind Jack's disappearance, faster than I could swipe the pages.

Thank you Netgalley for an ARC.

This was absolutely not what I was expecting and my jaw literally hit the floor more than once. It's definitely got the dramatic big reveal!! The rest of the book is really a hit if a slow built upto the grand finale. It does manage to keep up that underlying tension and anxiety and it builds on this til the big reveal. I liked the story being told from the 2 different vantage points and they never became muddled or confusing. Def worth sticking with and a really good way to spend a nice, relaxed say in the sun

This is a thriller about unrequited love, loss, and obsession to the brink of madness. I would say this was more of a slow burn, because most of the action and suspense was packed into the last 40% of the book, but I think it was absolutely worth the wait!

There were a lot of elements in this book that I personally really enjoy in a psychological thriller. The dual POVs, letter formatting for Sophie’s chapters, and relatively short chapters in general were all automatic pluses in my book!

I’m still processing the ending and I can promise you that you will NOT see it coming!! I was confused, shocked, impressed, and ultimately really happy with how the end of the book and major twists were pulled off.

This is a solid and quick psychological thriller you will absolutely want to check of yourself!

Thank you to the author and Netgalley for my e-ARC of this book to read and honestly review.

Sophie Portman has lost her husband, and she thinks she may be losing her mind.
She seeks the help of psychiatrist Andrew Thacker, but as she starts to open up, the truth begins to unravel and nothing is quite as it seems. I cannot wait to read more by this author. This author has now become a go-to author. To have a book that is well written as well as entertaining is a delight. Reading is about escaping your world and entering another one. Brilliant!

Oh man oh man! I never saw those twists coming. I had to reread some pages and try and wrap my head around that.

This story runs two pov’s in current time. One is Sophie’s letters to her missing husband, Jack. The other is of her therapy sessions with Dr. Thacker. All the while you are trying to piece what is going on in therapy and what happened to her missing husband. I started to think one way and then boom - what a twist again at the end.

Wow! If you’re looking for a quick read that is full of twists you’ll never see coming, look no more. Other People’s Lives delivers! I can’t say much about the plot, because I don’t want to give anything away. What I can say is paranoia, jealousy and revenge can be a deadly combination. Just when I thought I knew where the story was going, it would take a turn that I never expected. This is definitely a thriller that will stay with me for a long time. Highly recommend! Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for my copy.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

If you are looking for a quick and captivating psychological thriller, this is it! This is my first book read by author, J. E. Rowney, and will not be my last.

Sophie Portman feels as though she is being watched since the disappearance of her husband, Jack Portman. Jack is a geologist who was set to go on one of the greatest expeditions of his lifetime, when he never made it. The novel explores Sophie's exploration of her potential stalker through sessions with her psychiatrist, until the near end when everything comes together and you find out what happened to Jack. I could not put this down!

The beginning starts off a little slow as you are getting to know the characters and setting, but then it just takes off! There was one twist that had me going back to see how I could have missed it.

Stellar novel! Would highly recommend for fans of Mystery/Thriller!

I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.

Short, totally twisted thriller! Sophie lost her husband more than seven months ago and has started to see a psychiatrist because she feels someone is constantly watching her or she is slowly losing her mind. There is an interesting interplay with the doctor and slowly but surely we get to the big reveal. Stunning!

Many thanks to NetGalley and Little Fox Publishing for this ARC!

Sophie starts seeing Dr. Thacker, she feels like someone is watching her. Is she delusional or is she really being followed? Her husband Jack went missing months ago, he left on an expedition and never showed up. Where is he?

Dr. Thacker becomes obsessed with Sophie, would like more than having her as a patient.

Another patient of Dr Thacker is Jonah Washington, and He wouldn’t mind if Jonah stopped coming.

This is a twisty suspense that pulls you and your left with what the…. The author does a great job of playing with your mind and slapping up alongside the head.

Sophie’s husband has been missing for almost a year. To help handle her grief, she begins to attend therapy. During her weekly sessions, she raises her concerns about feeling like someone is always watching her. She feels as if she sees her husband everywhere she goes. Is it her husband following her every move? Or is it all in her head?

If you love the show You, or the The Silent Patient then this is the perfect next read! This book is a QUICK thriller, short in length and so fast paced it’s hard to put down. I really enjoyed it! It was so good I didn’t want it to end.

Book review : Other People's Lives by J.E.Rowney is a commendable psychological thriller.

Other people's lives look intrigued to many of us. What if one is stalking you without letting you live at peace all the time?
In this book Sophie Portman suspects she is being stalked all the time after her husband is missing seven months ago. She is so distressed that she seeks help of police first and then of a psychologist Andrew Thacker.

Slowly the story takes lot of twists and turns making you intrigued all the time. When the truth starts to unravel nothing seems to be the same as it was assumed to be. Really pinching you with mouth wide open when secrets starts to unfold itself.

I liked reading this psyhcological suspense and kept me hooked all the time. I am thankful to netgalley and books go social to give me a chance to read this book.
Happy Reading !

Sophie Portman has lost her husband. After seeking out some help in therapy after feeling like she’s being watched, the truth becomes to unravel quickly.

I really really enjoyed this. It hooked me in from the beginning, kept my attention, and that ending made my jaw drop. This definitely gave me gone girl mixed with silent patient vibes and it provided the best of both worlds. I really enjoyed the chapters alternating between different POVs and letters. Highly recommend to anyone that likes psychological thrillers!

WOW ! This book here, I don't know about you, but I for one know I will be recommending this for a long long time.

Other People's Lives, is so well written you can not help but finish this book in one sitting. The pace is perfectly set, the storyline is intriguing and the characters are captivating. I absolutely loved this book !

The twists come out of left field and the ending? I am still sitting here with my jaw on the floor.

After reading so many thrillers, sometimes they all blend together or they are very similar that you feel as though you have read it before. Other People's Lives, is nothing like that. This story was unique and had me guessing the entire time. This book will sit with me for awhile, I already can not stop thinking about it!

If you are looking for a suspenseful thriller, this book is for you!

What a fast paced, twisty little thriller!

The different POVs were great and kept me on my toes. It definitely left me feeling like I had missed things at the beginning and I found myself reading it a second time to see if I had!

Overall I enjoyed the plot of Sophie with her missing husband, the obsessive therapist and a few extras thrown in there.
I did feel the ending could have been developed further but honestly, it's a great little read.

If I could figure out how to do a huge surprised emoji on this review then that’s what I’d start with! This book is AMAZING! Full of tension, just lurking in the background. Making you feel uneasy yet you have no idea why. Expertly written characters that let you in but only a little bit at a time. The narrative is done in a way that you feel the characters are, at times talking directly to you. I found myself agreeing out loud then thought, “oh you can’t hear me can you”?

Sophie feels like she is slowly losing her mind and hopes that her Therapist. Andrew can help her get her life into perspective after her husband disappears, seemingly into thin air. Sophie is a great protagonist and she had me in the palm of her hand. Her letters to her husband are an inspired tool that the author uses to give us little snippets of information, what happened to Sophie’s husband? why she feels so awful? why she feels like she’s unraveling? You certainly feel that you are sitting in on the therapy sessions and at times you feel uncomfortable. One minute I thought Andrew was really caring, then I thought “oh no creepy”

If you ever needed a definition for Psychological then this book is it! A powerful book that really has you wondering what the heck is going on! Intrigue flows throughout and the twist at the end is truly not what I thought. I sat back in my chair thinking WOW what just happened? Epic, awesome, thrilling, gripping, brilliant, absolutely trust NO ONE. I don’t say “a must read” often but this really is a must read. Brilliant.

I really enjoyed this book although I didn't understand the ending until another reader explained it to me. Then it all made sense. I found the book entertaining and provocative. I couldn't wait to finish it. The ending eluded me at first, as previously stated. Unique plot, unexpected twist at the end. I would highly recommend the book, even if you need help 'getting' the ending, as I did.

Other People's Lives by J.E Rowney is not a large book to read, what it is though, is a fast paced and twisty thriller that plays with the readers mind as the story unfolds. This author has written books in the past that I have been literally glued to and I must say this particular book is excellent.

J.E. Rowney has plotted and written this book so well, that if you don't notice certain things within the story you feel a bit confused, with more questions than answers really. She has so sublimely crafted her characters and so tightly woven the plot that it really kept me guessing until the end.

Sophie is having sessions with psychiatrist Dr Thacker to try to help her to cope with the disappearance of her husband and having the feeling she is being constantly watched. The question is...is she being watched and where is her husband?

A thriller with plenty of thrills and twists told in letter format as well as normal chapters. It had me obsessed with how everything panned out. The short chapters just increase the intrigue and mystery of it all. The twists in this story are ones that I didn't see coming and make this R.E Rowney's best work to date.

A brilliant psychological thriller that is definitely 'psychological'! A highly recommended read!

Other People’s Lives by J.E. Rowney is a psychological thriller.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Land of Oz LLC and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

My Synopsis:   (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
Seven months ago, Sophie Portman's husband Jack disappeared.   He is a geologist, and has often travelled for his work, but this time it's different.  Sophie is a teacher, but hasn't been able to go back to work.   She thinks she may be going crazy.  She is sure someone is watching her.  The police have found no evidence of this, so she decides to see a psychiatrist.

Dr. Andrew Thacker knows Sophie is not telling the whole story, but is struggling to get her to open up.

My Opinions:
Well, this was one twisted and fun read.  I didn't trust anybody!  This may have started out a little slow, but even then I was being entertained.  It sure changed about 60% in....when I realized the author had screwed with my head.  It was so much fun.

The book is really about obsession, and possessiveness.

I loved Sophie, and even though I felt she was hiding something right from the beginning, I could really feel her anxiety and confusion.

The writing was good, and needless to say the plot twisted a couple of times.  I almost want to read it again to see if I had missed some clues.

Even with the slow start, this was a really fast read.  I absolutely loved it!

As this was my first novel by this author I had no expectations. I love the dual perspectives and the way it drip feeds you clues, this was a great psychological thriller. I finished this really quickly as I was desperate to know the truth and their motives. I think the only downside is that the ending was a little abrupt and there was definately scope for more detail. I will definately read more J E Rowney books though.

This was certainly a wild ride! I was sucked in from the beginning and couldn’t put this one down. The way in which this story is told is genius because you truly have no idea what’s going on until the very end. The short chapters and multiple POVs also helped to move this story along and kept things interesting. This is one of the shortest psychological thrillers I’ve read, but this made it so much more enjoyable!

Sophie is seeing psychiatrist Dr. Thacker following the disappearance of her husband. She is worried she is losing her mind as she feels as though someone is watching her.

In this twisty thriller prepare to have your mind thrown as J.E Rowney's clever way of writing leads to the most unexpected twists.

Other People's Lives is a quiet thriller that you start reading and think you know which way the plot is going and then the plot takes off in a different direction.
