Description
In this dystopian vision of London, public safety is in private hands—and nobody is beyond the reach of the ‘law’.
The constant threat of terrorism has left London under round-the-clock surveillance and in the tightening grip of privatised security firms. Journalist Antonia Conti suspects one such organisation—GRM—not only of being behind several women’s disappearances, but of financing the widespread violence it claims to fight.
When a gang of hitmen use rampant state surveillance to track Antonia down, she narrowly escapes with her life. But then one of them turns up dead—covered in her DNA—and Antonia finds herself the prime suspect in his murder.
DS Russell Chapman needs to bring her in. But evidence that Antonia has been framed quickly stacks up and when a personal grudge between her and GRM’s shadowy head of security is revealed, he begins an uncomfortable partnership with her.
Together, the pair delve beneath the surface of the corporate machine and soon find themselves embroiled in a dark and violent underworld even they had barely dared imagine. Will they find the evidence to bring GRM down? And can they keep Antonia’s name off the list of missing women?

An excellent fast paced thriller. Frequent cliff hangars at the end of chapters kept me turning pages late at night.
I'm giving you fair warning; when you start reading this book you won't be able to stop. So don't start until you have an open block of time. And it's one of those where you find yourself saying, just one more chapter. But you know you're lying. There was so much going on it was making my head spin. There is action galore and I found myself wondering how many times the "good guys" could get captured by the "bad guys" and still get away. Obviously a lot!
I found the book to be a bit concerning when taken and applied to our current political/social situation. I can almost see it happening, and that's frightening, at least for me. People with power want more power and want to control those they consider lesser.
So will I read the other books in the Antonia Conti series? You bet I will and anything else Mr. Beckler writes. I'm adding him to my favorites list.
I received a review copy from the author via Netgalley and this is my honest opinion.

A really good read with good characters. Fast paced. Lots of action. 4*.
This novel was a fast paced action packed plot that focused on the underground criminal elements behind terrorism in London. The main character is driven and a strong female you will continue to want to cheer on to find justice. I found the book engaging and didn’t want to put it down. The character development between Antonia and Detective Chapman is strong starting out rocky and developing a trust between them as the plot progresses. I recommend this author and the novel.
What a rush, an auspicious debut novel in this series! The author has delivered a fast paced and deliciously wicked tale. The characters are well rounded and come across as believable, whether you love them or hate them. This provocative, somewhat dark and twisted story grabs you from the first page and keeps you guessing until the very end! It was so captivating and exciting that I simply couldn't put it down. I look forward to reading future installments in this series.

And I'm already needing the second book!
Journalist Antonia Conti is on the brink of uncovering who is behind the disappearances of a couple women. She soon finds herself in the middle of terrorism, violence, hitmen and almost losing her life she is now the prime suspect of a murder.
DS Russell Chapman starts to uncover what really happened and he comes to the conclusion that Conti has indeed been framed for murder.
The two come together and partner up.
What the two discover blows their minds. And they are shoved into the dark and violent world of courrption and the underground criminals behind terrorism in London.
Can they find what they need to bring GRM down hard?
Or can they keep Antonia safe and off the missing women's list?

This is such an exciting, non-stop action read!
Antonia is a brilliant character who is a strong and fierce lady. I enjoyed following this journey with both characters.
A Long Shadow is well written. Beckler's writing style is gripping. He definitely grabbed my attention from the start and instantly drew me into the story.
Full of twists and turns all the way through.

A clever, riveting and fast paced read. David Beckler took me on one interesting ride.

I enjoyed this full on thriller with a likeable main character, Antonia, a journalist who goes undercover at a suspect company and puts herself at risk. Action-packed from start fo finish.
Another fast passed deep story of villains who are supposed to be the good guys. A reporter gives everything to uncover the bad guys and gets framed in the process. The cop assigned to the case thinks and hope to prove the reporter being framed. A tale right out of today's society, probably truer than we want to admit. The author does a masterful job of setting the hook early on in the story. You will want to read it without pause, it is that good. I will enjoy the next book as this one kept me fully engaged.
