I really enjoyed this, love the colours used, the designs and the step by step instructions. Such a great book.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
This book takes the approach of simplifying embroidery, including preparation, stitches and completion, to create beautiful crafts. It guides beginners in the practice and encourages experienced embroiderers to use the patterns to further their skills. Each step is explained alongside a full-colour photograph and/or drawn illustration making the whole process easy to follow.
Featured are many beautiful designs spanning a range of birds, each featuring a dynamic portrayal of the creature. Some particularly striking designs are those of the kingfisher and the puffin.
This book contains detailed patterns for beautiful birds in embroidery. There is a section outlining the methods used including transferring the patterns to fabric and blending stitches to achieve the best results. My personal favourites are the kingfisher and puffin patterns. The detailed diagrams and instructions make the embroideries seem achievable. A really nice addition to your crafting library. Many thanks to Netgalley and quarto publishing for a digital copy of the book to review.
I love this book! Over the pandemic, I took up embroidery. While this book might be a little more challenging for me, I can’t wait to give it a try!
The illustrations broke everything down into easy step by step instructions. The author listed out the different types of stitches and which way the stitches should flow, something I’d never been taught before.
I can’t wait to dig into a new embroidery project!
'Embroidery Made Easy: Beautiful Birds' by Beth Hoyes contains instructions for making 12 ornithological designs, ranging from a duck to a keen-billed toucan. In it, Hoyes explains the different techniques and how to build up colours and stitches to make complex and stunning pictures.
Being a relative novice to embroidery (I've only recently taken it up) I found Hoyes' explanation of the stitches easy to read and understand. I also liked her breakdowns of the patterns and use of arrows to guide the direction of stitches. However, I did find the book a slightly odd mix. The introduction seemed very much geared to the beginner and the designs, whilst using simple stitches, appear very complex. I certainly think I will have to concentrate hard to replicate them. Perhaps a couple of simpler designs at the beginning of the book might have been helpful, to enable the reader to develop their skills. Otherwise this is a beautiful book!

This is a beautifully illustrated book on embroidering birds, it is very well written with clear and concise instructions as well as step-by-step pictures on progress. A wonderful addition from Beth Hoyes to any keen crafters library. Well done Ms Hoyes. My grateful thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for a sneak peek at this lovely publication.
This is a beautiful little book which provides step by step instructions for making embroidered birds. The instructions are clear and accompanied by helpful close-up pictures. My only concern is that the templates for the birds are included in the book, with instructions to cut them out and transfer them to fabric. That would prevent embroiderers from making more than one of each bird. I wish instructions had been included for how to transfer the images without cutting into the book. *Thank you to NetGalley and Quarto publishing for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.*
A beautiful book with a beautiful layout. The explanations were clear and consistent, well indicated with excellent photography in line alongside the instruction. I am excited to try and finish my project, but I don't intend to hold off on a positive review while I work.
Embroidery Made Easy: Beautiful Birds by Beth Hoyes is a crafter's dream. The projects are quirky, with a lot of personality, and, once broken down by the author's expert touch, they are much simpler than they seem. The stitch guides are clear and easy to follow, and there is a lot of relevant, clear instruction on different color blending techniques to help you achieve the same results as the photos. It's exciting to see more embroidery books on the market that move past flowers and phrases to bring lively subjects, and the tutorials in this book are unique. It's well produced, easy to use, and will be a joy to add to my shelf!
Wowzers! This is a beautiful book detailing how to stitch some gorgeous birds. It says that it’s beginner friendly, but these are some tricky projects for an absolute beginner. The thread painting is described in detail with directions for stitches shown. It takes you through step by step. I’d love to have a bash at all of these patterns!
This book is so cool and I love all the different birds! The instructions are clear and make a lot of sense, and I love how each bird pattern is divided into sections to get a good grasp on the small details that contribute towards the whole. Very excited to try a few techniques and patterns from this book myelf!
A whimsical and charming book detailing the simplistic method of embroidering our feathered friends. This book includes templates that can be used for beginners, as well as tips on how to work the thread and complete any embroidery project.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for giving me this book to read and review.
I am a big fan of embroidery and this book was quite easy to follow with the colour guides, the diagrams and the different stitches. Definitely recommend this to people who are interested in embroidery.
I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. Beautiful pictures and cover. I can't wait to try some of these patterns.
These are beautiful. I’d love to learn and decorate my home or make some as gifts. Easy read with instructions. I cannot believe how talented people are!
I wish I could see well enough to follow the instructions and recreate these marvelous colorful birds. The instructions simplify the stitches and colors to the point where all you need are the materials and good lighting (and eyes that work better than mine). Absolutely fantastic! Get one for a friend and for your local library!
