This is the first book I've read by this author and it won't be the last.
At Haddenport Middle School, Locker 24 is never opened and never assigned to a student. Discussion about the locker is done in whispers--don't look at the locker, don't touch the locker. Most of all, don't ask about it. Attempts to find out the history of Locker 24 are immediately shut down, as one student found out when he wanted to write about it for the school paper. Until one day, when high-achieving 8th grader Emily Turner sees Locker 24 unlocked and is drawn into the mystery surrounding the locker.....
The Secret of Locker 24 is aimed at the tween to early teen group, though overall I did enjoy it. I felt primary character Emily was well-written and could actually jump off the page and exist. At 120 pages, the book is fast-paced and touches on themes of belonging and isolation in society. I did like the element of the paranormal with the book, as this is something I enjoy reading.
CW: bullying.
In appreciation of the author and publisher for providing a copy of the book via NetGalley, this is my honest review.

In the corridors of Haddenport Middle School, there exists a peculiar anomaly known only as Locker 24. Its presence looms like a shadow, never opened, never assigned, shrouded in whispers and unspoken rules: do not gaze upon it, do not dare to reach out, and above all, do not inquire. Efforts to unveil its enigmatic past are swiftly rebuffed, as one curious student discovered when met with abrupt resistance while attempting to delve into its mysteries for the school paper.
However, everything changes one fateful day when Emily Turner, a high-achieving 8th grader, stumbles upon Locker 24 mysteriously unlocked. Drawn inexorably into the intrigue that surrounds it, Emily finds herself entangled in a web of secrets and questions that challenge her perceptions of reality.
"The Secret of Locker 24" caters to the tween to early teen demographic, yet I found myself thoroughly engrossed. The central character, Emily, is skillfully crafted, possessing a depth that makes her feel tangible, as if she could step right off the pages. Spanning 120 pages, the narrative unfolds at a brisk pace, exploring themes of belonging and societal isolation with a deft touch.
One aspect that particularly resonated with me was the inclusion of paranormal elements, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the tale. As a fan of such narratives, this addition enhanced my enjoyment of the story, elevating it beyond mere curiosity into a realm of captivating fascination.

The Secret of Locker 24 gave me Goosebumps vibes with a splash of teenage angst. Sold as a ghost story, what makes this book good isn’t actually the ghost but the message it sends about bullying and its impact on people. Teaching lessons of camaraderie, standing up for others and following your heart, this was a solid read with a heartfelt message, albeit a ghostly one!
