Description

Trouble's on the wind when an auctioneer turns up dead in the new Trash 'n' Treasures cozy mystery - "one of the funniest cozy series going" (Ellery Queen Magazine)

Two o'clock in the morning is the perfect time to be asleep. So when long-suffering Brandy Borne is rudely awoken by her eccentric mother, Vivian, and invited on a surreptitious shopping trip, the idea is less than tempting.

But if Vivian - Serenity's true-crime writing, septuagenarian super-sleuth - has a nose for sniffing out antiques, Brandy's sense of smell is just as good . . . and trouble's on the wind.

A little light blackmail and one run-in with the police later, and Brandy and Vivian are the 'proud' owners of a selection of dead stock, liberated ahead of an upcoming warehouse sale from unsavory auctioneer Conrad Norris. Brandy's not convinced there's a fortune to be made in vintage toys, retro plates and pearl buttons - there's more mileage in their shop's new Halloween display, even though it's only August - but she supposes it could be worse.

It soon is. After the auction's taken place, Vivian and Brandy make an unnerving discovery. It's not just the stock that's dead - so is the auctioneer . . .

This light-hearted, laugh-out-loud cozy mystery also features Brandy and Vivian's humorous tips for buying and selling antiques, along with a selection of tasty recipes.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review "Antiques Liquidation", the newest entry in the series.
Well, they're at it again! Back for another adventure are Brandy Borne and her mother (actually her grandmother, but that's seldom mentioned any more) Vivian are mixed up in murder and shenanigans once again.
It all starts when Vivian decides to get ahead of an auction, and 'blackmails' the person running it into letting her purchase some of the items beforehand. Then, after the auction - which sees some furious bidding on 'deadstock' toys and barrels of pearl buttons (yes, buttons!) the girls stumble on to what turns out to be the first of 4 - count them, 4 - murders.
All of the usual suspects put in an appearance in this one: the fiancé and chief of police, Tony, the best friend and her husband (and Be Be), and the ROMEOs, as Vivian bungles her way through another set of investigations, all the while regaling readers with 'rusk' recipes (you have to read to appreciate) and fending off editorial notes from both her daughter and their editor.
Just what we have all come to expect of the 'Antiques" adventures, and all is wrapped up by the final pages, but with a twist that presages the next book.
Recommended, but you really should read the previous books.

Brandy and Vivian are off on a shopping trip to stock up for their shop. It’s not Brandy’s ideal of a shopping trip or stock, but she goes along. After discovering the auctioneer dead, Vivian puts on her sleuthing hat and the ladies begin digging through clues and separating them into trash and treasure as they try to solve whodunit.

I found myself laughing out loud several times while reading and even talking to the characters as if my own mother and I were having the conversation. While this is the first book I have read in the series, I had no gaps or issues, so it’s fine as stand alone. I do believe I have found another must read series to add to my list of favorites! Can’t wait to get caught up on the previous 15 books in this series!

Another awesome addition to a fan favorite series! Brandy and Vivian are like family to many. Their adventures are exciting and fun! They are going to have to solve 4 murders this time. Alot of action, lots of twists and turns, plenty of suspects make for a fun read! Thanks #netgalley and #SevernHouse for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.

Vivian gets Brandy out of bed in the middle of the night to buy some things from an auction that will take place the following day. Of course everything goes awry and their little pre-sale ends in the two ladies being targeted by a killer.

This is one of my very favorite series! I love Vivian and she and Brandy make the perfect crime fighting pair. Vivian had several chapters in this book, perhaps more than most others, and she is in rare form. You'll spot the mystery from a mile away but you won't be able to figure out who the killer is. It's hard to write much of a review for this series without giving any spoilers because of the fact that there are so many clues and so many crazy things happening.

If you haven't read this series yet, start it today! You won't be able to put it down.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.

Ms. Allan’s Trash ‘N Treasure series is a hoot and this one is no exception. Mother and daughter, Vivian and Brandy, consistently get into scrapes, involving dead bodies, while running their antiquing business. This is no exception and there are multiples, driving Brandy’s fiancée, Police Chief Tony Cassato to distraction.
The tale in both women’s viewpoint in turns. Vivian’s side is often humorous and Brandy’s exasperated making this a fun story. I highly recommend it, especially given the release date, great way to gear up for Halloween.
I requested and received a NetGalley ARC gratis and offer my opinion the same way.

Antiques Liquidation is the 16th book in the humorous A Trash 'n' Treasure Mystery series by Barbara. Allan. This is the first book in the series I have read and I really enjoyed it. Brandy and her mother Vivian own Trash 'n' Treasure. They go to auctions to pick up merchandise for their store which invariably gets them into trouble. In this book, Vivian wakes Brandy in the middle of the night to go to a warehouse to get some items for the store before the auction takes place. Kind of shady? Yes, which starts the problems for them. The auctioneer is murdered and Brandy and Vivian find him. A lot happens and the book is hard to put down! Vivian is quite a character and Brandy is engaged to the Chief of Police, Tony. One of the things I liked is that they specify the book in parentheses when a previous book is mentioned. It made me want to read more in the series. Another thing is the funny notes between Brandy and Vivian and the reader. There is humor to offset the cozy mystery and the book was very enjoyable!

Auctioneer Issues…
The sixteenth in the Trash ‘n’ Treasures series of mysteries and chaos is bound to be afoot when an auctioneer is found dead. Stock is to be the least of the troubles for Brandy and Vivian. With a cast of quirky and eccentric characters, a fun and swiftly moving storyline and a mystery to solve this is another lighthearted and delightful addition to this long running series. Tips and recipes, of course, are included.

This is a very entertaining series and I had a lot of fun it catching up with Vivian and Brandy. They're as fun and over the top as usual.
This is an entertaining romp and the solid mystery kept me guessing.
Entertaining and well plotted, recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

A middle-of-the-night trip to buy some new old stock vintage toys and a barrel of buttons plunges Vivian and Brandy into another murder investigation. The books in this series are always fun. This one has the usual on-page squabbling between Vivian and Brandy (and their long-suffering editor) and quite a few suggestions for recipes to use up a large online order of rusks. (I had to stop reading and do an online search just to find out what those were!) There's also more than one murder to be solved, but telling you who died or how the bodies were discovered would spoil some of the best parts. The book is fast paced and funny and I definitely didn't guess where the plot was headed.

This will be best appreciated by those who have been reading the series. Brandy and her. mother (grandmother?) Vivian both sell antiques and solve murders. Vivian's gotten them early access to a sale of stuff Brandy's skeptical will sell but then they find the auctioneer dead! But that's only the beginning. Brandy's fiance Tony is the chief of police and he's not, as you can guess, not happy that the two of them are once again investigating. It's classic cozy except that there are notes in the text referring you to earlier books. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.
