Description
Trapped in the Borneo jungle, British eco-tourist Tara must protect her fellow travellers from a killer possessed by a bloodthirsty animal spirit.
Tara wants to forget her abusive ex. Wild child Alison yearns for the rainforest to heal her soul. Student Maya’s thrilled by her first long-haul adventure. Bad boy Cristian’s chasing his next conquest. Everyone else wants to see the orangutans.
Their tropical paradise turns to torrid nightmare when they’re stranded by freak weather and targeted by ruthless thugs. Tara must discover hidden strength to get anyone home alive.
But the greatest dangers lie within: jealousy, vengeance and a primal hatred unleashed by the forest itself.
The journey up Blood River was easy. Coming home is a killer.
A Note From the Publisher
Alexander Lane has almost died on several continents. When he’s not writing, he’s thinking about travelling around our planet or into the stars. Much like Max Headroom, he lives about 15 minutes into the future.
He’ll be wondering whether scuba diving is truly as safe as it is incredible, planning his next trip to somewhere that’s hopefully more fun than fatal, or dreaming of the many ways that space travel could be both wonderful and dangerous. He always buys good travel insurance, and so should you.
He graduated with a distinction from the creative writing MA at St Mary’s University, Twickenham, in 2020. His first published novella is Blood River, and he’s currently working on the first two books of a science fiction series, In Machina.
He currently lives in Ireland, where there are no snakes or large predators.

Thank you to NetGalley, the author, & Victory Editing for a copy.
The tale starts off with a blast; an email from Imogen (founder of the Orangutan Survival Trust) to Alan begging for help in finding her missing staff. They’ve disappeared into the Borneo jungles.
Alan compiles a timeline of what occurred starting a month earlier & leading up to the volunteer/staff disappearances. We get to glimpse found diary entries, notes, social media posts, etc and try to puzzle out what happened to them.
Were they set upon by natural, supernatural, or human forces? The reader will find out!
This was a very interesting book in regards to both storytelling style and plot. Starting out this novel is about a mysterious expedition, in which every member has their own motives for being a part of. Truly one of the most entertaining features of Blood River is that it is told entirely through diary entries, emails and other "found footage." These entries keep this novel fast paced and they keep you anticipating what comes next. I think some of the creepiest context came from the small descriptions before some of the entries.
The jungle can be a truly overwhelming place and this book made me believe that even more so. Add in a scary paranormal element, that causes members of this party to disappear one by one and you have this thrill ride of an adventure. Blood River's plot (much like some of the rivers the characters traveled on), meandered along at times, but it races to head to head conflict and you know as the reader not everyone is going to make it out alive.
Check this book out, enjoy the story's unique storytelling and find out for yourself why Blood River is a nightmare vacation!
Wow what a brilliant read. I just loved every second of this book it was a real roller coaster ride. I became engrossed from the very start and had to finish it in one sitting. It was such a thrilling story that I am sure you won't be able to put it down just like me. I loved how unique the story was set in a jungle. Also I was amazed how the book flowed so well through a series of emails and diary entries. There was so many unexpected events that I was kept on the edge of my seat throughout. The author did an amazing job at creating such a wonderful sense of atmosphere and tension. I thought it was an exciting thriller/horror story that contains some scary scenes. I definitely recommend this book especially if you like gore and exciting chases. You won't be disappointed.
Only the highest of praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating such a wonderful medium to fast paced story that will get your heart racing. I will definitely be looking out for more titles by this talented author.

Blood River provides a fresh look into tales of the eco-tourist industry and orchestrated wilderness survival stories. The dangers found at Blood River are not the expected ones and are revealed through alternating and varied format correspondences. Appeals to adventurous environmentalist animal lovers rounds up the usual cross section of humanity and then puts the individual members of the herd to a true test of nature. Any tender hearted animal lover thinking of traveling to some beautiful but remote location to count turtle eggs or clean tiger cages for a month might want to give this one a read.
