What a lovely [and amazingly illustrated] picture book that teaches an unexpected lesson. Parents will love the lesson and the simple way it teaches and kids will love the story and the illustrations. I loved this and found it really well done.
I will say here that the main character is an odd looking man [what I thought was his mouth was his eye and isn't until later when he meets other people that I realized I was wrong] and it weirded me out [because I am a weird adult], but I am sure kids will just roll with it. It absolutely does not take away from the book though and I am sure only adults like me will find it odd. ;-)
Thank you to NetGalley, Brendan Kearney, and DK Kids for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
My kids and I loved this book! The illustrations are so beautiful and fun, and the writing is sweet and concise. The story follows the elderly Finn and his pup, Skip, as they make like birds and go on a hang-gliding adventure. Along the way, they meet animal friends and scientists and learn about climate change. Suggestions are offered about how to reduce our carbon footprint and kids are encouraged to do their part.
Thank you to DK and NetGalley for providing an advance reader copy for us to review! We loved it and have already sought out more of this author/illustrator's books!
I love it when children's picture books have a message, and this one is one that's so important and presented in such a cute manner.
This book contained eye-catching pictures and the storyline was fairly easy and fun to follow. The only thing that could have been better was the information between Finn and the scientists as well as the conclusion. It should have been about more engaging and inviting for children to read versus so matter-of-fact and preachy. The options given to the readers to help do one's part were not as one-size fits- all as they could have been. Don't fly on huge planes? I can be wrong but not everyone is a racking up on flight mileage.
