Certain that she caused her beloved sister Sophie's death, 17-year-old Corrine has decided to cut herself off from everyone and everything. During a summer storm, Sophie takes a dangerous fall on some rocks while walking along the beach. Corrine attempts to comfort her injured sister but her gentle touch is suddenly charged with mystical force bursting with blinding color. The violent surge of energy moves from Corrine to her sister, and in an instant, Sophie is gone.

Corrine is convinced that it's better for everyone if she simply withdraws from life. And her family's abrupt move to New Orleans makes it all the easier. No friends. No connections. No chance of hurting anyone. But strange things continue to happen around her in this moody, mystical city. And Corrine realizes that this power cannot be ignored, especially when Rennick, a talented local teen artist, suggests another possibility: Corrine's ability to read peoples' physio-electricity might actually a sixth sense that can be controlled.
