Description
Early March, 2020. When a body is found on a spoil heap, Mac gets the case.
Detective Inspector Calum Larsen (known as Mac) works for the Peripatetic Investigation Team based in Edinburgh. His early enquiries establish that the dead man, tasered prior to death, was involved in a joint university project to develop new software for the deployment of laser weapons on drones.
Days later, a second body is discovered on a beach; also tasered. Mac tries to avoid jumping to the conclusion that the two cases are linked… but then evidence emerges that both men were drug users, and that there was also a personal connection between the two.
Meanwhile, Mac discovers that the project has input from an aggressive, multi-national corporation, strongly committed to the extensive use of Artificial Intelligence in weapons deployment.
As the Chief Superintendent begins to put the screws on Mac to work quickly to avoid political complications, can Mac get the cases wrapped up before it’s too late?

The first I have read from this author, it will not be the last. Mac is a detective in Edinburgh , a complex character, he is of Norwegian descent and has a complicated love life. He is officially free when he gets a phonecall about a dead body. When another turns up which has similarities the case becomes more complicated. The story is mostly told from Mac's point of view , though there are other narrators, some seemingly unrelated , but the plot comes together .
All in all an interesting book, with a twisty plot. The forensic aspect is well done and the characters are likeable. The scene is in Scotland and gives a good picture of the city and local area.

A great read. Lots of Suspense. New author to me and I will definitely keep an eye out in future. 5*.
Excellent. A really enjoyable read from an author i hadn’t previously known about and one whose books I will certainly keep n eye on and look forward to in the future.

Decent read! This book had, suspense, intrigue, action, murder, and a good who done it! The storyline was pretty interesting and flowed nicely! It wasn't one of my top favorites but still worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
