Can a little Christmas magic mend a broken heart?
“Absolutely screamingly hilarious, full of Christmas-y sparkle and a lovely boy-next-door romance, but with some serious depth to bring you all the feels.”—LIZZY DENT, author of The Summer Job
Newly single lawyer Gwen Baker is hoping that a family Christmas—countryside, a mountain of food and festive films—will salve the sting of her career hanging by a thread and her heart being trampled on. Because everyone else has their life sorted: even Dev, her boy-next-door crush, is now a tall, dark and handsome stranger with a fiancée. She can’t help wishing her future was clearer.
Then Gwen wakes up to discover it’s Christmas day all over again. Like Groundhog Day but with eggnog. And family arguments. On repeat.
As she figures out how to escape her own particular Christmas hell, Dev is the one bright spot. He might be all grown-up but underneath he’s just as kind and funny as she remembers.
Maybe, just maybe, her heart can be mended after all.
But how do you fall in love with someone who can’t remember you from one day to the next?

I really enjoyed this holiday romance! A Christmas version of Groundhog Day, with a cast of warm, charming characters, a likable heroine and a British country setting. Fans of Christina Lauren’s In a Holidaze will also enjoy this book.
Thank you to Net Galley for the Advance Reader Copy.
Groundhogs day except make it Christmas. Gwen Baker is newly single lawyer and hoping that this holiday with her family will heal her... especially since her career is hanging on by a thread and her heart has been broken. When Gwen finds out that her boyfriend cheated on her with his receptionist and then proceeded to kick her out of their house things are not looking great.... and then there was the incident at work that has her on leave.... so spending time with her family in the countryside with beautiful mountains, festive food, and movies should be a great time right? Things take a turn for the worse when she wakes up to discover that she’s repeating Christmas day all over again... and again... and again. Now she has to grant everyone’s wishes until she figures out whose’s wish will help her wake up to the next day. Throw in old family drama, a super cute neighbor ( who just happens to be your childhood crush). secrets, and so much fun and what you get is an excellent Christmas read! Seriously, I adored this one and think it’ll be the perfect book to add to your Christmas TBR!

A Christmas Wish is the perfect holiday rom-com!
Lindsey Kelk dazzles readers with holiday cheer and introduces a story significant to us all.
Gwen baker has lost everything. Her boyfriend of four years left, her ten-year career hangs in the balance, she was forced to move out of her house, and she has lost sight of herself.
Christmas is right around the corner and the last thing Gwen wants is to spend the holidays with her disagreeable family. Each year proves that her family members are miles away from one another and can never get along. After the hell of a year Gwen’s been through, she has had enough.
However, Father Christmas has other plans in mind. Gwen’s insufferable Christmas turns into a week-long stay at the same date. Yes, this is a good old-fashioned Groundhog Day situation. Everyday Gwen has to relive Christmas, with horrible results each time. In hopes of making it through the night into morning, Gwen plays peacemaker. A role that proves impossible. Every day turns out worse than the last. Christmas is very much not the cheerful celebration society had led us to believe.
Yet, the thing about relieving the same day over is you get the chance to live without caution. While every day ends on a rather unpleasant note, Gwen learns more about her family and the secrets they keep protecting one another. Add in adventures with her childhood crush, Dev, and you have a retelling Gwen looks forward to.
The only problem? Boxing Day never shows. With Gwen’s emotions for Dev intensifying each day, she is left with a dilemma. How do you fall in love with someone who doesn’t remember you from one day to the next?
Overall, A Christmas Wish is a breath of fresh air on the holiday romance scene. It’s endearing, it is loving, and it’s special. Packed with laughing out loud moments, one can’t help but fall for Kelk’s latest tale.
Above all, Kelk delivers a beautiful message along the way - family. No matter how distant you may grow from the ones you love, they are yours forever. It is never too late to mend broken hearts and there is always room to dream.
A Christmas Wish is a book too good to pass up!
Thank you to Net Galley, Harper 360/ Harper Collins, and Lindsey Kelk for the eARC for The Christmas Wish!
Gwen Baker has found herself in a rut; she's on a forced leave from work, her longterm boyfriend has left her for his receptionist, and she has dealt with familial issues of resentment and expectations. She travels to her childhood home with her cousin, Manny, to celebrate the holidays. She finds herself in a Christmas version of Groundhog's Day, where each morning she wakes up to experience Christmas again, and convinced the day is repeating to fulfill a family member's wish. Each morning she tries to fulfill a member of her family's wish, but still finds herself waking up to Christmas morning again. Through the process, she is learning more about each family member's issues, but discovering her common factor is the happy moments she experiences with her childhood crush/ neighbor, Dev.
I liked this book and it was a fun Christmas take on Groundhog's Day. It certainly demonstrates to not treat people based on what they allow you to see on the surface, but sometimes it takes communication and digging to get people to open up and improve relationships. There were times when I felt like chapters ran a little long, but overall I liked the story. I would give it 3.5/5 (rounded up to 4 here).
I really enjoyed this book. It had laugh out loud moments and was full of Christmas cheer. But it was also touching and sweet, and a reminder that things aren't always what they seem. If you are looking for an uplifting and entertaining Christmas read, this is the book for you.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and Harper 360 for the ARC!
I loved On A Night Like This! So I was pretty excited to see a Holiday Romance by Kelk!
What a great start to holiday reading. Such a sweet book with lovable characters that will have you not wanting to put the book down.
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk was such an incredibly fun story.
It's an interesting and immersive read that leaves you rooting for the main characters from the beginning, while also exploring family relationships, which were just a joy to read about.
It's a fabulous feel-good read, that leaves you reaching for the book to inhale just that little bit more Christmas magic! I loved it!
Not only is this book relatable and engaging, it is also a humorous and light-hearted, making for a fantastically fun read.
I loved the storyline, the characters were realistic and relatable.
A beautifully written, heartwarming, new take on romance, family, friendships and of course all the Christmas feels!
Winter can't come quick enough.... This was the perfect piece of wintery escapism and I would definitely recommend it.
A sweet, uplifting and lovely read with some gorgeous descriptions.
This is the perfect holiday escape book. The kind you grab with a cup of hot chocolate, a soft blanket and cuddle up with no place to go and just settle in for a few hours and enjoy your time in the story.

Harper Collins,
Thank You for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk is a sweet, fun, festive, and entertaining contemporary fiction and romance that I really enjoyed.
Gwen Baker is a great main character, and her return home to a “Groundhog Day” of sorts Christmas experience gives her the insight and second chance at life and happiness that makes for a heartwarming narrative. Amongst the craziness, squabbles, and superficial stressors that can bring us down and deter us, Gwen is able to find answers, hope, and happiness.
5/5 stars
Thank you NG and Harper Collins/ Harper 360 for this wonderful arc and in return I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion.
I am posting this review to my GR and Bookbub accounts immediately and will post it to my Amazon, Instagram, and B&N accounts upon publication on 11/15/22.
I went into this one blind - I saw Lindsey Kelk and an adorable holiday book cover and I knew I had to have it. 😊🎄🎁 Lindsey Kelk became an autobuy author for me after I tried my first by her (One In A Million) and as always she delivered.
The Christmas Wish was another book filled with laughs, love, complicated relationships and of course charming characters and a feel good story. In this one Gwen Baker, big time lawyer with some big secrets, has left London behind for a visit to her quaint small town childhood home for the holidays. Cue shenanigans when a Christmas wish gets her stuck in a Groundhog Day type situation of repeating a rather disastrous December 25th…
I loved this one - I’m not one for the time loop a la Groundhog Day normally, but this one has me laughing and staying up waaaay too late to continue reading. Once again we have a wonderful quirky and loveable cast of characters - we can probably all find a familiar feel to at least one of these family members.
The story pacing was perfect and I was so invested in Gwen, in finding out the secrets and wishes of her family, and in her journey of both growth and love. The book definitely put me in the holiday spirit and is easily a top holiday read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for the opportunity to read an early copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and freely offered.
A few months ago Gwen thought she had her life figured out. With a successful career and the perfect partner what more could she need. Suddenly she finds herself single with her job on the line and all she wants is the comfort of a Christmas at home. The universe has other plans when she keeps waking up on Christmas Day. Forced to repeat the day over and over again Gwen gets to look at things a little more closely and see that maybe she isn't the only one with secret hopes and needs this Christmas. Maybe too the life path she was one wasn't he right one after all. With a dash of romance, some seasonal cheer, and the time to look beyond the surface of those around her, maybe this Christmas will be the one that changes Gwen's years to come.
I tore through this book like a kid unwrapping presents on Christmas morning. Full of laughter and heart, this book will be a holiday time must read for me every season.
I received. copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I have really *got* to start reading descriptions before just grabbing books by favorite authors because I had no idea this was a Groundhog Day/time loop kind of thing. Groundhog Day is one of my least favorite movies because to me the idea of reliving the same day over and over again is such an anxiety-inducing nightmare. I pushed through my initial time loop resistance because I really enjoy Lindsey Kelk's writing, and I'm glad I did. I really liked Gwen as a main character going through kind of an identity crisis - she's been dumped by her long term boyfriend, kicked out of the house they shared, and recently threw a stapler at a client at the high-end London law firm where she worked, which landed her on disciplinary leave. Even with my own stress at the time loop thing, I think Gwen used hers well, and managed to learn a lot about her family members and who they really are. There were some truly funny scenes that helped balance out some of the more intense parts, and this definitely got me in the mood for Christmas.
The Christmas Wish is a laugh loud kinda of read. I love the heartwarming that it has in this book I love Christmas books when there done right and this book was 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 read.
Thanks Netgalley for a arc copy of this book for a honest review
Happy Reading Lisa 📚
Gwen Baker is going THROUGH it. The last thing she needs is to be around her family on Christmas and have to pretend like her life hasn't just been completely turned to shit. She's just been dumped by her long term boyfriend that was cheating on her with his receptionist, and she has to immediately move out of their once shared home. If having your heart broken isn't enough, she's also facing the consequences of an incident at work.
As much as she loves her family and Christmas, there's sure to be some kind of meltdown. If not from the inevitable melt down with her sister, then definitely from her family learning what's going on at work. The only plus side of it all is that her old childhood friend/ next door neighbor, Dev, is back.
Post inevitable blowup, Gwen is READY for the day to end. Except, when she wakes up the next day, she realizes it's Christmas all over again. She's stuck in a Groundhog day type time loop with no foreseeable end, a full house with family members that are rubbing raw wounds, and a man next door that's unavailable.
This was a fun, quick holiday book! I really feel for Gwen, because honestly with what she's been going through, she really does have license to be miserable and it's understandable she's avoided dealing with her real issues.
Groundhog type books are such a toss up for me. I find that sometimes the plot line can be overly repetitive, but Lindsey Kelk does a good job of giving us variation. Each day gave Gwen a goal where she was connecting to her family and working on herself. To the characters around her, her actions seem more and more off nature as the book goes, but as readers we really get to see her growth.
I really enjoyed Dev's character, and wish we got more of their connection! His pop ins on her recurring days were so cute and I was left wishing each scene was a little longer. The fact that their connection starts back in childhood, I wish we got to see more of what their past was like. I think it would have given a better platform for the relationship to stand on. Time loop plots make forming romance a little more tricky.
Overall this was a good book! Absolutely hilarious bits and her cousin, Manny, is probably my favorite of the book. There's good to find in a holiday book, and this delivers all the cozy, traditional, and chaotic family antics that I enjoy. I wish there was more romance in the book, but did really like her own journey through it. I enjoyed Kelk's writing and would love to pick up another book by the author and explore something with plotline that may be more my interest.
Thank you Netgalley, Lindsey Kelk, and Harper 360 for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
↠ 3.75 stars
I truly enjoyed reading this. It was well written and captivating from the beginning. Gwen who is newly single with a broken heart after finding her boyfriend with his receptionist. Spending the holidays with her family, she wakes up on Christmas Morning repeating the day again repeatedly. It is such a sweet second chance story, I loved it. This would make a wonderful story for the holidays.
Another amazing Holiday read! I loved this one, it was laugh out loud funny and carried such a good message! (or at least I got a good message from it)
Gwen is dealing with A LOT and she is not excited about going home for Christmas. She was placed on temporary leave from work, her boyfriend dumped her for her receptionist, and her and her sister always seems to have something to fight about.
After another Christmas disaster and some pudding, Gwen finds herself in a Groundhog Day situation and it leads her two a second chance she would've never expected.
This read was amazing, ill say it again. Gwen ends up learning the valuable lesson that you can't only take care of everyone around you but sometimes you need to take care of you too. It was a romance but there was just so much more to it than that. I cannot wait for this gem to come out so I can add a physical copy to my Holiday shelf!
A wonderful holiday read - smart and sweet and hardworking London lawyer Gwen Baker is going back home to the country for Christmas. Sure, she’s just been cheated on and dumped by her boyfriend of several years and put on leave from work for violence against a co-worker (which was completely warranted) so what else could go wrong? How about being stuck in a Groundhog Day-esque Christmas Day time loop with her crazy family?
Poor Gwen is forced to live Christmas Day with her dysfunctional family over and over which is such a drag…but is it really? As she tries to get herself out the loop by delving into the innermost desires of her loved ones, she learns a thing or two as well and so do they. And the ever present constant in all the loops is her old childhood crush and neighbor Dev who just happens to be her bright spot in every scenario.
So what we have is the perfect recipe for a lovely holiday story filled with fun, romance, all the feels and a little bit of magic…enjoy!
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for my honest review.
This was my first Lindsey Kelk book and I am so sad that I didn’t find her sooner. I was smiling like a fool from the first page. The banter between Gwen and Manny is top tier. The references made me feel like I was listening to my best friend tell a story. I feel like EVERYONE can relate to the MC Gwen, her life and her family are a shit show in all the best ways.. AND she’s a Britney Spears ANDDD Taylor Swift stan so I mean 5/5 stars just for that. If we’re talking Hallmark type Christmas rom coms - this one takes the cake! Everything is nicely wrapped up with a pretty bow, so well in fact that I am desperate to re read it because I already miss the characters like they are my own family.
Without giving anything away since it hasn’t been released yet, I just have to urge you to preorder it bc it comes out November 15th and it will rock your entire world.
A cute and fun holiday rom-Com. I love these types of books and this one was no exception! The relationships come alive and draw you in.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper 360 for an ARC in exchange for an honest review. The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk gave me the warm fuzzies. It was like savoring a box full of Christmas chocolates whose deep and complex flavors made them even more enjoyable than you had imagined.
I somehow chanced into another Groundhog Day plot, and I couldn't be happier about it! Our protagonist, Gwen Baker, comes home for Christmas with a broken heart and a forced leave of absence after an unfortunate incident at work. Things go from bad to worse when she fights with her perfectionist sister, dumps on her (gorgeous) neighbor, and somehow manages to hurt or disappoint just about every member of her family. Luckily, she wakes up to another Christmas Day and has a chance to do better.
I loved the depth of the characters in this novel. Kelk goes above and beyond with her character development to paint a picture of a loving family who works hard to help one another, but still finds it difficult to get things right. In order to escape her never-ending Christmas loop, Gwen attempts to fulfill the Christmas wishes of each of her family members, finally realizing that she, too, deserves love, fulfillment, and happiness.
All that, and it was funny, too! I loved the humor and heart in this book and recommend it to anyone and everyone as a perfect seasonal treat. This was a 10/10 stars from me -- an absolute Christmas delight.
I think the only things I love more than christmas are christmas books! I was a bit wary going into this book because the groundhog loop is super common in books but I was very impressed! This book was hilarious and I loved getting to see every character develop throughout the story. I do wish we could’ve seen more connection and chemistry between the characters and see more of their past for context but overall a super great christmas read that i’m 100% obsessed with!
'The Christmas Wish' is a really sweet book, and it's a perfect story for the holidays. In the book, a lawyer named Gwen has just been dumped by her boyfriend, and she is not handling it well. After an outburst at work, she's at a crossroads in her career. She heads home with her cousin, Manny, to celebrate Christmas with her parents, grandmother, and sister and her family. When she goes home, she keeps waking up on Christmas morning. Each day, she has to determine how she can break the loop that she is stuck in.
Gwen can't figure out how to get out of the time loop. She tries different things each day, and she struggles on how to get to a new day. When she wakes up on Christmas morning, she focuses on her relationship with different family members. She discovers that she doesn't know as much about her family members as she thought that she did. Through the repeating of Christmas Day, Gwen grows closer to her family, and she learns more about herself in the process.
Gwen reconnects with her childhood crush and next door neighbor, Dev, and she still has feelings for him after all of these years.
I really enjoyed all of the personal growth that Gwen went through. She learned so much about herself, and she was able to see her family in a different light. I loved the sweetness of this book, but it was also really fun! I found myself laughing out loud at several points.
I would recommend this book to anyone look for an adorable holiday story about family and what it means to grow up and discover who you really are and who you want to become.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper360 for an ARC of this book.
Wow, I think this was my favorite holiday romance I have read so far this season, and I have read a lot. I just finished this book early this morning after staying up way too long! The humor was A+ and the romance was heartwarming. The cover is also so cute. Will possibly add to my physical shelf!
The Christmas Wish was a heartwarming, magical read. You follow the main character, Gwen, a newly single lawyer back home for holidays. She gets stuck in a Groundhog Day situation and slowly starts to realize things aren’t always what they seem, especially when it comes to her family members. You will not be able to put this one down as its full of laugher & love.
This one started out a little slow for me but picked up and turned out to be a cute read! The main character learned a lot about her self and learned some good life lessons we all need reminding of.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read this book!
First off, I love Christmas stories, especially Christmas romance, and I love second chance love even more!
At first, I was a little iffy. I'm not a huge fan of repeating days/the groundhog day loop, they can get really boring but this one was well done. The characters were well written, it was witty and funny, the dynamics in the relationships was also done very well.
It's a good, festive romance for the Christmas season and it's a quick read once it grabs your attention!
Magically charming and laugh out loud funny in a do over and over and over again (and again) Christmas day.
Oh my gosh. This story, from the beginning, grabbed tight and held me, enthralled, in its cozy embrace. Gwen, her family, Dev - I loved these characters and I loved Gwen’s journey throughout this to find her own happiness.
Utter enjoyment from this title, an absolute recommendation.
Thank you to Net Galley, Harper 360/ Harper Collins, and Lindsey Kelk for the eARC for The Christmas Wish
“Loneliness is how you know something is missing. Feeling lonely means you haven’t given up hope.”
A very merrier meet cute, boy next door, friends to lovers, slow burn, time loop holiday romance.
This book was everything I could want in a romance. Gwen was stuck in a Christmas Day time loop trying to figure out her work, family and love life. There was great character development and I was laughing and crying right along with her the whole time! Such a feel good holiday read,
The Christmas Wish was lovely, hilariously funny, and full of heart. Gwen is stuck a Groundhog Day-ish loop on Christmas Eve and is trying to figure out whose dreams she needs to make come true in order to break the cycle. She has never considered that perhaps it's her own dreams she needs to follow to find true happiness. The Christmas Wish is a lighthearted, holiday read that carries a deeper message. Nothing too heavy - just a fun holiday read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper 360, HarperCollins for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I’ve always enjoyed books written by this author. I wasn’t sure if I would like this one as the “groundhogs Day” type stories aren’t my favorite but I really liked this one. Through a series of strange and stranger events throughout Christmas we learn more about Gwen’s family and her role in the family dynamic. Some wild and crazy things happen but with no consequences as Gwen’s day starts over again with lessons learned. Gwen is able to learn more about herself and also her childhood neighbor who is also home for the holidays who is her first love. Heartwarming, funny, zany Christmas story.
Lindsey Kelk outdid herself with this heartwarming, hilarious, and relatable read. I laughed so hard that I cried, and I felt this story on a personal level.
Down on her luck Gwen Baker ends up stuck in a ‘Groundhog Day’ Christmas loop while visiting her family over the holidays. She is forced to dig deep, connect with her family members on levels that go far beneath the surface, reconnect with a childhood crush, and find her true self in the process. But what will it take to finally stop reliving the same Christmas Day on repeat?
This festive read addresses family chaos that tends to perpetuate itself during the holidays, letting go and moving on from things and people that no longer hold value in one’s life, and finding love in a variety of forms along the way.
I give this read 4.5 stars! The ‘Groundhog Day’ type time loop can sometimes feel overplayed and strung out, however Lindsey delivered it a refreshing way that allowed for new events and fresh perspectives that kept the story moving along at a beautiful pace. This book is lighthearted and deep all at once, and it is the perfect addition to any holiday reading list!
Thank you to Lindsey Kelk, Harper 360, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
As soon as there's a new Lindsey Kelk novel, I know it's a book I want to check out. Kelk's blend of repartee, charismatic characters and satirical situations provides audible gasps while reading in public.
From the first chapter, readers will be drawn into Gwen and Manny's road trip to celebrate Christmas with their family. While it's a time for festivities, Gwen's world looks like wrapping paper after the party. Finding a lump of coal in her relationship and career, she's not living in the present but wishing things had turned out differently.
After a disastrous Christmas, Gwen awakes to find that she's reliving the day until she gets it right. Will she be able to unravel the truth or continue celebrating Christmas 365 days a year?
Thank you to #NetGalley and the publisher for the early edition of #TheChristmasWish in exchange for an honest review. Once again, Kelk kept me awake until early hours of the morning until I finished the epilogue. I couldn't leave Gwen stuck in the past while I slumbered. Get ready for a Groundhog Day mixed with the reason readers heart Lindsey Kelk.
this was a good one from the start. must read and really enjoyed this from page one. I am loving this author more and more. Every book does it for me.
Ahh I absolutely love anything Lindsey Kelk writes and a fun Christmas groundhogs day book?! Yes please!! If you love main characters learning more about themselves, fun, albeit sometimes crazy family dynamics & a rekindled crush on the boy next door, pick this one up! I don’t wanna say too much about it but was exactly what you’d expect from Lindsey Kelk - hilarious, sweet & swoony. The perfect holiday read!!
This was my first time reading Lindsey Kelk's work and will not be my last!
While the setting is at Christmas time, this was more than a Christmas novel. This was a novel about reevaluating your life and all the decisions you make along the way. This was a novel about our closest relationships in life and asking ourselves how well we really know them and what is happening in their world. I loved every page! Thank you for the opportunity to read.
It’s Ground Hog’s Day meets Christmas Day in this delightful holiday romantic comedy. Gwen Baker returns home in hopes of holiday cheer after losing so much in her life: her boyfriend, her job, her happiness. Gwen doesn’t want anyone to know her failures, living in denial, and is in hopes to just ignore and power on in her life. Greeted by her caustic sister and twat of a brother-in-law, her overworked mother, her father who is living vicariously through her career, and her judgmental grandma, Gwen wants nothing better than to be the fixer of the family and make everyone happy. Things go awry at Christmas dinner when the traditional Christmas pudding with the sixpence for luck is served. As Gwen has had enough, she flees hoping to just make it through. But for some reason, Gwen awakes the next day as if Christmas did not happen and then Christmas Day keeps repeating itself. Gwen sees this as a chance to grant everyone’s wish to make the family happy, but every time makes it that much worse. The only great thing about reliving the day over again is Gwen’s chance to become reacquainted with the neighbor boy whom she fell in love with at age 13. Reliving each moment does allow Gwen to learn more about those who matter most to her and yet she hopes that her childhood crush, Dev would remember as well. Will Gwen finally be able to discover a tomorrow with Dev and find her happiness? This was a delightful read with great characters (loved Nan), full of cheer and discovering what really matters. Lots of feel-good moments and affirmation that it’s never too late to find lifetime happiness and to follow your dream. It’s a magical story, perfect for the holiday.
Many thanks to #netgalley, #thechristmaswish #harper360 #lindseykelk for the opportunity to read and review this book.
This was such a fun story! I loved getting into the Christmas Mood in October and this was the perfect way. Groundhog day loop isn't my favorite trope, but this was done well! I found myself giggling and routing for the couple the whole way through.
I loved the concept of this book, it was like Groundhog Day. I don’t want to give anything a way. But you need to read it! I loved it!!!
REVIEW: GROUNDHOG DAY FOR CHRISTMAS LOVERS!
Kelk delivers a delightful and fun story of family, friendships, self-discovery and love all on repeat of Christmas Day. A person might believe that reliving Christmas Day - usually thought as the happiest, most joyous time of year - sounds pretty perfect but not for Gwen Baker. For Gwen, reliving Christmas Day over and over feels like her worse nightmare until she begins to see her family and friends in a different way. She begins spending time with them individually and discovering a true sense of them. She sees their frustrations, their challenges, their hopes and dreams. As each day passes she finds ways to help them and while doing so she discovers so much about who she has been, is and wants to be going forward. The topics and emotions are all relatable to the reader. The overall story is light-hearted and filled with laughter. Kelk has produced a very enjoyable read!
Four and a Half Stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭒
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk is a magical and charming Christmas story that is perfect for the holiday season.
Story Recap:
Gwen Baker’s life is a bit of a mess. Her career as a lawyer at a top London Law firm is hanging by a thread and her fiance, Michael left her a few months ago. She’s hoping that a family Christmas holiday is all she needs to get back to where she was before and put her life back together again.
Christmas day is full of chaos with her parents, her cousin Manny who is like a brother, and her sister Cerys, and her family all drinking a bit too much and the family dinner ends up a disaster. Next, she embarrasses herself in front of her next-door neighbor, Dev, who she’s had a crush on for years, but finally, the day is over and she’ll soon be back in London trying to get her life back in order. However, the next day turns out to be Christmas morning once again. Gwen has to find a way out of the time loop as she can’t spend another disastrous Christmas day over again.
My Thoughts:
I love a bit of magical realism, especially in Holiday books. I usually enjoy a good time loop story, and The Christmas Wish did not disappoint. Although Gwen’s family is a big chaotic mess, there is love and support deep down underneath it all. So, it was just a matter of time for Gwen to find it and appreciate her family for what it is.
The romance was definitely a side plot, and the main story is all about Gwen and how she figures out what is important in her life. But, it was a sweet romance, and although we don’t see as much of Dev as I would have liked, he’s quite a wonderful hero. I enjoyed this light and hilarious book, it was everything I want in a Holiday book, with some magic, love, and self-reflection.
Recommendation:
I highly recommend The Christmas Wish to anyone who enjoys fiction. I received a complimentary copy of this book. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This is a book about self-discovery and family relationships, set around Christmas time, with some romance mixed in.
I LOVED:
“People who said violence was never the answer didn’t have older siblings.”
“We all bruised more easily at Christmas.”
“I could fill a library with my memories of you.” (Died. THIS is my favorite quote)
-The parts where Dev and Gwen are together, were swoony, silly, and sexy. I NEEDED MORE.
-This kept me laughing and smiling.
-The relatable characters and their personalities were golden.
-The Holiday atmosphere was well done.
-The great character development.
-This was set in England. I think with the right narrator, this would be an awesome audio book.
DIDN’T LOVE:
-They said, “Merry Christmas.” I thought Brit’s said, “Happy Christmas.”
-Why is she always mentioning his forearms??? He must have more physical qualities than that. It was mentioned at least 5 times. We get it sweetie. He has nice arms.
-Some of the jokes were trying a little too hard to be funny.
-THE ROMANCE! It doesn't really happen until about 75% into the book. There are cute little moments in the beginning, but it all happens way too late. I WISH it had more romance throughout. The romance was a side story. If you love that, then you will adore it! If you want a more romantic book, I would pick something else.
-I’m not sure if it really NEEDED all the language but it was hilarious in the moment.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
CONTENT WARNING: Strong language, adult humor, and innuendo. One vague open-door scene.

I absolutely loved The Christmas Wish!
While I haven't read anything by Lindsey Kelk before, I will certainly read more in the future. The Christmas Wish is everything you can want in a good holiday story in 2022. It is self-aware, funny, heart-warming, and aware of its audience. Kelk does a wonderful job telling a wonderful holiday romance in a way that focuses on the protagonist, Gwen, and her journey.
Gwen is a lawyer who, until recently, seemed to have everything. When things seem to fall apart in her life, Gwen finds herself home for Christmas Day. In what could be everyone's worst nightmare, Gwen finds herself in a Groundhog Day situation where she gets to relive a dramatic Christmas Day over and over. The Christmas Wish is just as much about loving yourself, seeing your family for who they are, and putting things in the past as it is about falling in love.
I cannot recommend The Christmas Wish enough.
What a cleverly written contemporary romance with all the holiday trimmings!
Gwen Baker isn’t looking forward to Christmas. An attorney, she’s on leave from work after a disastrous incident at the law firm. It wasn’t the job that incited her reaction, but her frustration with a boyfriend that she thought would become her partner for life. More like her brother, Cousin Manny insists that once they leave London for the annual “home for the holidays” at her parents in the English countryside, all will be well with presents and holiday feasting.
It’s a charming, magical, romantic holiday treat that delights in every way. It twinkles, it sparkles, it glows!
I highly recommend pre-ordering for your holiday reading list! And for all that love the movie classic (Hint: Different holiday) with Bill Murray, you’ll delight in this entertaining storyline.
I sincerely thank Lindsey Kelk and Harper 360, HarperCollins, for my complimentary digital copy of this title, via NetGalley, in exchange for my honest review.

I truly enjoyed this book. This book made me laugh and cry with how relatable it is. A lot of what the main character goes through seems like it could happen to anyone. It took me on a rollercoaster of emotions in the best way possible. There were times where I cried because what was happening felt so real, but there were also times where I was giggling and grinning. The growth the main character goes through is both amazing and inspiring. I enjoy a good, bubbly Christmas story, but it was a nice break to read a book where the main character is going through a rough patch during Christmas and ultimately coming out the other end a stronger, confident and happier person. Thanks NetGalley for giving me the chance to read and review this book. I hope other readers can enjoy this book as much, if not more than I did
If you’re looking for a book that will have you giggling on your couch like a school girl one second and then laughing out loud 3 pages later, this is the one for you. Gwen is such a relatable character in the fact that she is far from perfect. I think something we see in a lot of romance books is a sense of unrealistic perfection in the characters. In this story, we see just how imperfect all of the characters are as Gwen goes on her journey to grant all of their wishes so she can figure out why she’s stuck in this endless time-loop. As stated in the book description, this is a love story. But it’s not just a love story between and guy and a girl. It’s a love story between a family. I felt like I was going through this journey with Gwen, and I loved how each Christmas Day was spent with a different member of the family. The personalities and issues are all so different and it was a great dynamic that led to lots of laughs and a few tears. And of course, Dev Jones made me second guess my own marriage over his fictional perfection. I do wish there were more scenes with Dev, but that’s just me being a die hard romantic & swooning over every page he appeared on. Thank you, Lindsey Kelk for my newest fictional boyfriend.
LOVED THIS! What a super fun, hilarious and adorable Christmas take on Groundhog’s Day! I had so much fun reading this one and I loved every page. It has that magical Christmas vibe and I couldn't get enough.
We meet Gwen who has had a bit of a rough time in the run up to Christmas, as she heads home for Christmas with cousin Manny by her side. She’s been cheated on and dumped by her long term boyfriend, and is on mandatory leave from her job. And if things couldn’t get any worse, after a Christmas dinner disaster and some pudding, Gwen finds herself reliving Christmas Day over and over again....
Gwen was extremely relatable, and I loved her comedic, screw-up moments as well as her honest, tender moments. In order to escape her never-ending Christmas loop, Gwen attempts to fulfill the Christmas wishes of each of her family members, and eventually realising that she, too, deserves love, fulfillment, and happiness. While on the loop, she re-discovers a lot about her family and especially herself. Her career. Her growth. Her repressed feelings. Add in adventures with her childhood crush and neighbour, Dev, who is ever present in all the loops, and who just happens to be her bright spot in every scenario.
And it’s hysterical. It's laugh-out-loud funny. The situations that Gwen finds herself in are hilariously relatable, and the book is packed with brilliantly witty and amusing dialogue. The portrayal of a family Christmas resonated so much...it was all so quintessentially British! And I just adored the references to nostalgic items and every day life, and the pop culture references. It was such a delightful story and a breath of fresh air, and with a gorgeous message that it’s never too late to find lifetime happiness and to follow your dreams.
Jam-packed with yuletide cheer, an unforgettable cast of characters, and downright hilarious hijinks, this heartwarming and uplifting read will make you believe in the power of wishes and the magic of the holidays. This was an absolute Christmas delight, and I can’t recommend it enough.
In the way of truly great British comedy, this book deals with some serious themes via the medium of humour. We touch on loss, grief, unresolved anger, sibling rivalry and trust, to name just a few, all whilst laughing, sympathising, commiserating, or fist-pumping whilst muttering "you tell him, Gwen". The situations, the conversations, and the people are so very familiar and that is where the strength of the story lies. It's also why it is so incredibly funny. We've all been tempted to hide when an unwelcome visitor calls, or indeed have hidden - haven't we? It can't just be me 😂!
Normally I would have found the epilogue just a little too sweet, a little too perfect, for my tastes. But let's remember this is a Christmas romance and you can never have too much sugar coating in a holiday love story. I loved Gwen, I loved her crazy, ridiculously normal but troubled family and I adored Drew and Dev. If you read only one Christmas book this year make it this one - you won't regret it.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
This was just a fun happy Christmas read. I love the concept and I laughed out loud many times. The story of being stuck in your life I think is relatable to many so I found it inspiring also. This is exactly what I look for in a holiday read. It was warm cozy cheerful and funny!
Have you ever had the pleasure of reading a book that made you laugh out loud? If not, make sure you check this one out. I was open mouth laughing throughout the entirety of this book. Full on guffaw. An intense cackle that swelled up from the depths of my stomach and startled those within earshot. I am willing to bet that those around me got a full view of all of my teeth, plus the empty spaces where teeth used to be, because I had my mouth open so wide. I even earned a few weird looks from people when I would sneak and read it in public places. Who need social interactions when you have books?
The Banter was A+ level. - The relationship between Gwen and Manny was the funniest, but there were gems in the entire book. The banter was bantering like I have never seen it banter before. When I read books with this level of hilarious back and forth, I can't help but wonder if the author is this witty in real life. If so, then we need to be best friends immediately. I go absolutely weak in the knees at books with an impressive amount of wit and cleverness because you don't see it often.
Less Rom. More Com. Thank God. - Okay see, I am usually quite apprehensive about reading romantic comedies because there is usually an uncomfortable amount of *whispers* smut involved that really makes me want to barf. I am not a smut fan. I love spicy foods, but I don't love spicy books. I was prepared to skip past scenes of "growling" and "eyes raking down their bodies" and "moaning" and whatever other representation of sex that these authors can think of, but I didn't have to with this one. Let us all breathe a sigh of relief together.
Family dynamics. - It wouldn't be a holiday themed book/movie if it didn't have some level of family drama involved. This is why people hate the holidays and avoid family gatherings like the plague. The Christmas Wish was no different. I enjoyed seeing the complicated relationships between Gwen and the rest of her family members as she tried desperate to find her way out of the time loop.
Christmas vibes. Duh. - It's a Christmas book, so it goes without saying, but I still wanted to mention it. It had the perfect amount of Christmas without being overbearing and corny. Honestly. Truly. I loved this book.
Gwen is heading home for Christmas, but she's not looking forward to it. It's been a tough year - her boyfriend dumped her and she was suspended from her job - and she just wants to make it through the holiday. Well, Christmas Day is even more calamitous than she feared, and then she wakes up the next morning and has to repeat it all over again. Gwen realizes quickly that she's in a holiday time loop and sets herself to taking whatever action is needed to break it. She learns more about what's really going on in her parents' and siblings' lives and hearts, finds ways to help them move forward in life, and - eventually - applies those lessons to herself.
I loved the way The Christmas Wish combined humor and zest with more serious subject matter. The characters have legitimate problems - bad marriages, deceased family members, loneliness - the story is light and positive without ever feeling dismissive. The time loop was nicely done, glossing over the details of the repetitions (on the assumption that we've all read a time loop holiday story or two) to keep Gwen's story moving forward even as the calendar stalled. And I felt like there was just enough romance to make the story feel festive and happily-ever-after without dominating the story, which was more about family and life choices. My only quibble was that the opening chapters were a bit slow.
Adorable Groundhog Day Christmas family dramedy, with a smidge of romance. 5 stars.
Time loop books can be really fun when done right, and I rather enjoyed Kelk’s take on this story structure. As with most time loop books, the character has to figure out why it happened and how to escape the loop. Gwen suspected one of her family members found the Christmas pudding sixpence and made a wish. She was determined to spend a re-do day with each member in order to try and make their wish come true.
Each day was filled with madcap antics, but also, lots of tender moments. It was lovely watching Gwen reconnect with her family, and as she learned about the burdens each person was carrying, she was also learning a lot about herself. Though the story focused more on Gwen’s personal journey, it also featured a wonderful romance. Dev was the beautiful boy next door, and he was a fantastic love interest. Each do-over day, he won another piece of my heart, and I was filled with glee that he was part of Gwen’s story.
Overall: A fun and festive Groundhog Day story which navigated some hefty topics with lots of warmth and humor.
Adorable and hilarious romcom! This book also had a dose of reality and real life moments. Perfect ending but 10 days may have been just a bit too long. Quick and easy read!
I loved this Christmas story! Gwen was extremely relatable. I absolutely loved her. I loved how her interactions with her family members on Christmas. Even Cerys. There wasn't very much romance but I was so enthralled with the family drama that I barely noticed. This is a heart-warming Yuletide story that is light and entertaining. You'll love this book!
I absolutely adored this book! It was cute, romantic, and compelling and I can’t wait to reread around the holidays!
Gwen's boyfriend has broken up with her; she has been suspended from her job and she does not get along with her sister. This is how she arrives home for Christmas. This book is the Groundhog Day of Christmas. Gwen keeps repeating Christmas Day until she can figure out her life and make peace with each person in it. Every Christmas day is different and focuses on a different person in her life. She learns a lot about herself during this process.
This is an enjoyable Christmas book with many laughable moments. Lindsey Kelk's books always puts a smile on my face. If you like rom coms, you will like Lindsey's books. I have read several and have enjoyed every one. If you are looking for a Christmas book give this one a try.
Thank you to #netgalley, #HarperCollins, and #LindseyKelk for a copy of this book.
I am a new to LK reader but I instantly fell into this story. For anyone who loves Christmas romance stories, this one needs to be added to your list! It had some laugh at loud moments while also addressing family relationships, It is a sweet, uplifting, and wonderful story and I hope you read it!
Thank you to Net Galley, Harper 360/ Harper Collins, and Lindsey Kelk for the eARC for The Christmas Wish!
I’m a sucker for cute Christmas books and this one was sooo good!! Can totally see this being made into a Netflix movie! Loved it!
This is a sweet rom com. I reminded me a lot of Holidaze, but it had its own twist tat made it a bright and fun seasonal read.
beautiful friends to lovers timeloop romance magic. There are so many funny moments and I adored Dev so much. I definitely recommend.
Loved this one! The characters are so cute (I want to be friends with manny!) and relatable. The pop culture references were super fun. I loved the story and the ending! Gwen is all of us.
Is there anything cuter than a Christmas romance? No way. The Christmas Wish is an adorable Christmas-y romcom following a newly single lawyer, Gwen, who hopes Christmas with her family can help save both her career and her broken heart. After she meets Dev, a boy-next-door crush who is sadly engaged, she begins reliving Christmas Day over and over, trapped in a cycle she hopes won't break her heart again.
This is a perfect Hallmark Christmas movie read for the holiday season. It reminded me a lot of In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren. While the Groundhog Day trope does feel a little tired to me and can drag, I appreciated that this one was very sweet and laugh-out-loud funny. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did! I felt like her writing felt very real and she created charming dialogue that wasn't too bantery and strong storytelling. The romance came second to the exploration of Gwen's identity and relationship with her family, which I appreciated.
This was the first I read by this author, and I'll definitely be reading more from her!
Lindsey Kelk's take on Groundhogs Day in her Christmas novel was a masterpiece. I can't wait to dip into Kelk's backlist now. I hope she writes another holiday book someday.
A cute Christmas story! I loved the chemistry between the two main characters and this really put me in the spirit.
A really sweet tale sure to appeal to fans of Kelk's other work. I really enjoyed this book, it was a bit of light holiday fun but it had some real heart. I will say I saw it compared to Christina Lauren's "In a Holidaze" a lot and while they do have a weirdly similar set-up premise they are really different books and I'd caution you from thinking they will be read a-likes. I didn't find that to be the case at all.
The Christmas Wish takes us on a Groundhog Day-esque journey as Gwen figures out how to steer her life back on track when pretty much every thing has fallen apart. After unsuccessfully trying to hide all of this from her exuberant family, crushing her dad’s vicarious career aspirations, and inciting the ire of her contentious sister, Gwen finds herself living Christmas Day again and again. Whose wish does she need to fulfill to get off of this Yuletide loop?
If you love holiday romcoms, raucous family drama, spitfire grandmas, boozy celebrations, capers, hijinks, misdemeanors, and that dreamy boy next door, add this to your TBR! I was a little iffy going in to this one because the “holiday on repeat” bit has been done, but Gwen and her family were such a delight and Dev was just 😍😍😍. The Christmas Wish was solidly one of my favorite reads as of late and I’m looking forward to diving in to more from Lindsey Kelk.
Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for the complimentary advance copy of this work! My opinions are my own.
Lovely story with complex characters that you feel in your soul. I laughed, cried, loved and wished to live in this world a little longer. Fantastic read that I spent all Christmas convincing my family and friends to read. I look forward to more reads from Lindsey Kelk.
Who in the world wouldn't love a good Christmas Groundhog Day adventure wrapped up in the dramediest family funsies and a sweet second chance romance sprinkled on top?
This was cute, and I liked the hero. A fun winter Christmastime read if you like the Groundhog Day trope for a plot.
Really love the theme of Christmas everyday. Definitely a harder theme to nail and I really wanted to love this one. While Gwen is stuck in this cycle you get to know her dysfunctional family and really root for her but this one just didn’t grab me the way I’d hoped.
This book was amazing. 5/5.
Family dysfunction with a side of romance. From a dysfunctional family myself, it was great to read about a family like mine. The entire book was Gwen slowly getting to know more and more intimate details about her family and herself. This made her closer with each of them, and them with each other. I was laughing out loud throughout the entire thing. The only thing I would change about this book is the fact that Nan was called Nan throughout the entire book until the last chapter. Why did that change. What happened.
I can't believe I didn't review this one before Christmas!
"The Christmas Wish," by Lindsey Kelk is simply put a Groundhog's Day Christmas story. Gwen Baker heads home for Christmas hoping to leave her troubles (ending a relationship, work problems) in London. When she arrives to her family home she ends up waking up to the same day everyday. Left to figure out how to stop the madness of reliving the same day over and over again, Gwen believes someone must be wishing for something and in order for the receptiveness to stop she needs to grant the wish, or find a way from changing the wish altogether. While back home, Gwen reconnects with her childhood crush neighbor- who of course grew up to be a hot doctor. Can she figure out how to escape the never-ending Christmas?
Funny, sweet, and entertaining, I definitely recommend reading this one! While I personally prefer Christmas books in December, if it's Christmas in your heart you can read this one any time of year.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Fiction for allowing me tor read this one early!
LOOVED! This was such a great winter/christmas read! This is my first Kelk book, but I definitely need to read more because this was addictive!
I thought this was a cute book. I really enjoyed it a lot. I was hooked right at the beginning. It was well written and i didn’t have a problem connecting with the characters in the story. I’m definitely going to buy a copy of this book
Really cute romantic comedy, with a holiday twist! Fun to read at Christmas time. This one was an enjoyable read.
Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins, and Lindsey Kelk for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Am I still reading Christmas books even after Christmas? Yes, Yes I am. This one was really good. I loved the premise of this one. Reliving the same day over and over again.
Gwen was a likeable character and the character growth and happiness they all find really made me smile.
The Christmas Wish wasn't quite what I'd expected, but I still enjoyed it. It's another groundhog day Christmas book. Gwen Baker is a newly single lawyer whose career is hanging on by a thread. She is heading home to the country to spend Christmas with her family and repeatedly gets stuck in the loop. She tries to stop it from repeating, but she can't figure it out. This book was light-hearted and comical at times. It was not so much romance but had more family shenanigans and funny times. It was a cute seasonal read with its warm and fuzzy ending to curl up with a hot beverage.
Thank you to NetGalley, Lindsey Kelk, and Harper 360/HarperCollins for providing this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was such a cute Christmas romance! The characters were adorable and relatable. I loved the small town setting and country setting. This was well paced and very easy to visualize as I was reading. It definitely was a take on GroundHogs Day, just the Christmas version.
This review will be posted to my Goodreads and Amazon accounts immediately and also to my instagram account (@ginganinja333), and to my newly created bookstagram (@paulas.book.nook).
[Mini REVIEW: The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk]
I’m swooning! What a bunch of fun this cozy little Christmas read was!
I’m off to decorate some cookies with the kiddos in my life but quickly…
Here’s what I loved about this one:
-LGBTQ rep
-cast of memorable family members with a healthy dose of sibling rivalry
-Christmas morning time loop in a snowy, British countryside setting
-Whacky gifts, childhood memories, sweet holiday traditions
And lastly…a MC Gwen, who leaves a well paying, long time career simply because it no longer serves her. This was ✨magically✨ the right book at the right time for me! I appreciated the heart of the story and the “princess saves herself” conclusion.
For fans of: The Holiday (film), One Day in December (book)
Newly single lawyer Gwen Baker is hoping that a family Christmas—countryside, a mountain of food and festive films—will salve the sting of her career hanging by a thread and her heart being trampled on. Because everyone else has their life sorted: even Dev, her boy-next-door crush, is now a tall, dark and handsome stranger with a fiancée. She can’t help wishing her future was clearer.
I really enjoyed reading The Christmas Wish! It had Hallmark feels for me with the groundhog day aspect. It had a few slow bits but the ending was my favorite!
This book is definitely one of my new favs! Because wir fulfilled one of my favorite aspects: family. But furthermore it’s super funny ( I will never be able to hate a romcom ).
I got so close to the characters and loved each of them and the book had me smile and laugh soo many times!
This is really a feel good comfort read <3
The only con is that it started a little slow but it was worth it :)
Thanks netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Gwen is going home for Christmas put those things her family doesn’t know one she broke up with her boyfriend Mike oh he broke up with her rather because he cheated on her and two she’s taking Aleve from work because she had a nervous break down in the middle of a client interview but her cousin me a name convinced her it would be in her best interest to go home for Christmas and so she does. The first sign that things weren’t going to go well was one her dad pulled her vibrator for Christmas he kept referring to it as a back massage everyone else in the room knew exactly what it was then the next day her sister Caprice shows up and tells the whole family that Gwen Hatten been working because she threw a stapler at a client… Not exactly how it happened and Gwen certainly didn’t want the family to find out this way but it can’t get any worse can it… Yes it can when you have to relive the day over and over again until you get it right. This was the most screamingly hilarious book I have read in such a long time. I laughed so hard that I couldn’t read it in public this is so OMG lol funny I wish I would’ve read it sooner and will definitely read it again. I loved it and highly recommend it I would say it reminded me of Groundhog Day which was so super hilarious but I do think this book is funnier I’m being totally honest. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
This was such a great holiday romance read! I loved the Groundhog Day theme in this book. I think the author did a great job with it. I flew through this book. I found myself not wanting to put it down. I highly recommend checking it out!
4-4.5 stars
Cute, charming, and laugh-out-loud sarcastically funny! (NOT CHEESY at all - which I find many holiday romance books extremely cheesy and can never get into).
I really enjoyed this one!
The perfect holiday read! It was a cute Christmas, closed door romance. Ground hogs day of Christmas stories.
I loved all the characters. The family interactions were hilarious. I also enjoyed the small town vibes from her childhood home. Every part of this book left me feeling warm and fuzzy.
Happy Endings all around is just what you want from a holiday book!!
4.5 Stars
This is such a perfect holiday read! I wasn't quite sure if I was going to enjoy this book when I started reading, but the characters just grew on me and I found myself loving so much about it. The family theme and the humour really give this book such a fantastic and warm feeling. Looking forward to reading more of this author's books!
More of a 4.5 star for me! I wouldn't necessarily classify this as a rom-com, since the romance aspect was really in the background, but more of a family dramedy. Much heavier on the comedy, but enough serious elements to give it substance. The story follows Gwen, a London lawyer whose life is coming down around her, as she returns home up North for Christmas. Her longtime boyfriend left her for his secretary and she's on administrative leave from her job after fighting back unwanted advances from a creepy client. Back at home, she has to juggle all the personalities of her family, including her sister and her boorish husband who hate her, her overwhelmed mother, and recently retired and bored father. After an awkward attempt at a set up by her mother at a neighborhood mixer and a run-in with her childhood crush, Dev, Gwen wakes up the following morning to find that she is somehow stuck in a time-loop, doomed to repeat Christmas day until she can grant the wishes of her family. Like Groundhog Day, some of these loops took a dark, fatal turn, yet were always balanced with the laugh out loud wit I've come to expect from the author. Towards the end of the story I found myself getting impatient, and wanting the time loop to be broken already, and that's the only thing that kept me from a 5 star rating. But of all the Christmas books I've read this season, this was among the best, checking all my boxes for a feel good British holiday rom-com.
Fun Christmas read.
I enjoyed the story and characters were easy to like. This book can easily put you in a holiday spirit.
Thank you Netgalley, Harper 360, HarperCollins and the author for free ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Merry... Groundhogs day!
This book is very very stressful. All you want to do the whole time is yell at the plot and make the groundhogs day nonsense stop because all you want is for the FMC to be happy!!! I really enjoyed how Lindsey Kelk is able to make her main character very relatable and normal. A lot of authors try, and fail, to make their characters relatable and normal. They end up being cringey and difficult to relate to. That was not an issue here. Gwen was actually normal and someone I could see myself as. Her inner monologue was hilarious and fun to read.
While I didn't think I would enjoy the plot and the waking up and being in the same day over and over again, I actually found myself enjoying this theme. While I did want to shake my kindle and make the madness end, it wasn't in a bad way of "MAKE THIS STOP!!!" it was an "I JUST WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY!!!".
If you're looking for a fun and quick holiday read, The Christmas Wish is for you. The second you meet Gwen, you're going to love her. She's fun, quirky, and loves to make pop culture references. And you will swoon over her journey unfolding.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was cute and fluffy while also tackling some heavier topics. Perfect read for this time of year when you just want to escape into a book.
Thank you Net Galley for the advanced copy.
The Christmas Wish
by Lindsey Kelk
5 stars
This is a great quick little Christmas read, I finished it right before 7 pm on new years eve. The last book of 2022 and it made my night. I love groundhog day stuck in a little loop and have to figure out how to stop it. Also, the love story added in made all the feelers go crazy I absolutely loved that in it. The family gathering around for the holidays and everything that can and will go wrong does it is great and reminds me of my family time together.
Highly recommend
Groundhog day but for Christmas… This was a fun read and a sweet romance all in one. Gwen wakes up repeatedly on Christmas morning to find that she must change something in her day so that the next day actually comes. It’s a fun look at examining one’s life and family and not only realizing you have needs, but you can also help your family with what they need. Self examination, humor, love and of course, CHRISTMAS!
Thanks to Net Galley for this advanced copy.
Single and a little lost, Gwen Baker comes home for Christmas with her family hoping to relax in the comfort of familiarity and the holiday. She ends Christmas Day with some family drama and kicked out of her bedroom. When she wakes up, it’s Christmas Day all over again. As she works to find herself, she always gets to know her family and reconnects with the boy next door.
This was a joy to read Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. This was closed door romance and the family relationships stood out to me front and center to make this so heartwarming. It was zany, laugh out loud funny, and the touch of magical realism elevated this holiday read for me.
I wasn’t sure what to expect with this book, the Groundhog Day theme doesn’t usually work for me. But I really enjoyed this one! This book has great character development. The author absolutely nailed the dysfunctional family dynamics (especially during the holidays). I found myself loling A LOT. Loved all the pop culture references. This is an entertaining and comical read with the cutest second chance at love.
I loved this Christmas reimagination of Groundhog Day (despite utterly dialing that movie!). We see so much growth in each character, things of hilarious hijinks, and plenty of heart-string pulling moments. Will definitely recommend this to friends!
🌲 BOOK REVIEW 🌲
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk
Rating: 5/5 ⭐️
“Newly single lawyer Gwen Baker is hoping that a family Christmas-countryside, a mountain of food and festive films-will salve the sting of her career hanging by a thread and her heart being trampled on. Because everyone else has their life sorted: even Dev, her boy-next-door crush, is now a tall, dark and handsome stranger with a fiancée. She can't help wishing her future was clearer.
Then Gwen wakes up to discover it's Christmas day all over again. Like Groundhog Day but
with eggnog. And family arguments.”
I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical about how much I would like this one. I love a good holiday romance book but feel like Groundhog Day trope can be a bit cliched and is overdone. Well, I take all that back. This time loop was perfect!
Gwen is going home for Christmas single, (almost) jobless and not in the best spirits. She was recently placed on a leave from her fancy corporate job after a very-unlike-her explosion of anger on a difficult client. She REALLY doesn’t want to tell her family, especially her dad who sees her career success as the ultimate achievement.
She immediately starts butting heads with her family and find herself reliving the same Christmas Day over and over. Each time, she builds connections with her family, learns more about herself and reconnects with an old crush.
The tension between Gwen and her family is SO palpable and it was easy to get pulled in. Gwen’s journey from an angry, follower, shove-all-her-feelings-down person into someone who knows who she is and what she wants was absolute perfection. I would say this book has more family dynamics/being true to yourself than it does romance - but I particularly loved that!
Highly recommend if you like:
🌲Slow burn, non-spicy romance
🌲Complex family dynamics
🌲A “be true to yourself” story
🌲Interesting side characters
🌲 Time loops
🌲 Childhood friend-to-lovers

Gwen Baker is heading home for the holidays, with a lot of secrets. She has broken up with her boyfriend, has moved into a terrible apartment and is on leave from her job. It’s wasn’t her choice to be on leave, it was a forced leave, where they are reviewing if she can come back. She is hopeful that heading home will be the vacation she needs. Time with her family, traditions and friends. As much as she wants to go home, she is nervous to let her family know all that is going on. Will they be disappointed? Will they support her new life? Christmas comes and the day is ok.. but fortunately or unfortunately, when she wakes up the next day, it’s Christmas Day again. This will happen many times. While in this Groundhog Day time loop, she tries to fix her relationships with family members. Starts to think about a new life and even reconnects with her next door neighbor, Dev. Will this time loop drive her mad? Or will she be able to make changes that will help her life move forward? This was a well written, fun story. I love the Christmas storyline and the honesty of families. This was a four star read for me. I want to thank Netgalley & Lindsey Kelk for my copy of The Christmas Wish, for an honest review. It was my pleasure to read and review this one. If you are looking for a light hearted read.. this is your book..
This is one of my favorite Christmas books this year. It’s funny and also thoughtful. Gwen is newly single lawyer after her boyfriend cheated on her. She’s got no place to live and she’s on leave from her job after an “incident” with a client. She goes home for Christmas and wakes up to find she must relive Christmas Day, the good and the bad, over and over.
We’ve all read books that use Groundhog Day as a plot device, in this case it’s very well done. Gwen is trying to rekindle a romance with her old neighbor Dev, but it’s difficult because he doesn’t remember her from day to day.
Gwen realizes the only way to get out of the loop is to take a good hard look at herself and make some changes.
I highly recommend this book, 5 stars.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.
Perfect light holiday reading equivalent of a Hallmark Christmas movie. Gwen Baker has had a rough few months with problems at her high powered law firm endangering her partnership topped by the unceremonious dumping by her boyfriend and kicking her out of the house. So she heads home with her cousin/brother for a family holiday. There a wish over the Christmas pudding leads her to repeat Christmas day over and over woth disastrous results.
Gwen is a newly single lawyer who just wants a normal family Christmas. What she gets is a Groundhog Day-esque adventure where she discovers what she truly wants in life.
This book has everything I want in a Christmas romcom. A fantastic cast of characters- Gwen’s family is charming and relatable. An adorable small English town. A childhood crush. And many moments that made me actually laugh out loud.
Thank you HarperCollins and NetGalley for this ARC to review!
This was such a fun, page-turning Christmas read! I’m very glad it was my last Christmas book of the 2022 holiday season. I didn’t even realize until just now that it had some similarities to “In a Holidaze” by Christina Lauren since both books have a Christmas time-loop. They are different enough that each is good on its own merit! I would definitely recommend this book to someone who was looking for a fun Christmas story. It was also quintessentially British, which I loved.
Thank you to the publisher - I received a complimentary eARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This may not be the first Christmas take on Groundhog's Day, but it is the funniest one yet! A Christmas Wish will be a welcomed addition to your festive reading.
The Christmas Wish introduces us to Gwen Baker -- after potentially losing her job and definitely losing her boyfriend a Christmas at home may be just what she needs.
But a Christmas at home that keeps repeating every day? Not so much!
Faced with the problem of living (or reliving) Christmas Day on loop, Gwen uses this as an opportunity to spend each day focusing on each of her family members, convinced that by granting one of them their Christmas Wish that the spell will break.
The family element is what sets this book aside from other's that have utilized this charming concept. The family interactions is also where much of this book's comedy comes from. While I found the story to be long at points, it was the comedy that set it apart and kept me reading.
I adore all Lindsey Kelk books! This book had me in stitches with all of the one liners and Gwen reliving every bite of her bacon butty day after day.
Instead of a typical rom com, this book focuses more on family dram. I loved how Gwen was able to spend time with a different family member each day that she re-lived Christmas. There are so many hilarious scenes (when Gwen ripped her dress! or when Gwen and Dev broke into the stately home!), but also sweet moments (the heartfelt convo between Gwen and Manny during his vulnerable moment or when Gwen brought out the home videos of her grandparents and Uncle Jim...definitely shed some tears there!). As much as I wanted more romantic scenes with Gwen and Dev, the family scenes were so lovely and so enjoyable. A great Christmas read!
I have never met a Christmas book I don't like, and this one is no exception!
I loved meeting Gwen and her insanely stressful life and terrible boyfriend. It was such a surprisingly deep book that I loved moving through. There is a huge cast of characters along for the ride with Gwen and I loved meeting each and every one of them. I enjoyed the family drama, and of course the endless Taylor Swift references.
TIme travel normally isn't my favorite, but this author did it in such a wonderful way. I was laughing along the entire time and it really kept my interest! I can't wait to see what this author does next!
Thank you so much for an ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Love story, check. 10 repeat Christmases, check. British humor thrown in, big check. What a fun, Groundhog Day type story. The lesson to be learned is discovering what makes you happy. Definitely one to add to your holiday reading list!
Thank you, NetGalley and the Publisher for the eARC! The Christmas Wish reminded me of Christina Lauren’s In a Holidaze. This book was more comical than anticipated which I loved. I also liked how the main Character Gwen “relived” Christmas over and over again with each day effecting different characters. It had me guessing of what could go wrong and with who each time. A cute holiday read!
The Christmas Wish is a Groundhog Day style Christmas story with a good message. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a little more substance than romance in their holiday read.
This was such a fun read! Although I’ve read several Groundhog Day type books recently, The Christmas Wish did not come off as a retread. Instead, it read just like a fun British rom com, perfect for the Christmas season. Gwen has not had the best time of it lately- her boyfriend of 4 years broke up with her for his receptionist, she’s on leave from her law firm, and now she’s stuck in a time loop at her childhood home. I loved how Kelk developed her characters with flaws but also kept me laughing throughout. This was the perfect read for the Christmas weekend and I’m grateful my bestie sent it to me.
I wish it could be Christmas everyday … or not? Lindsey Kelk is back with another delightful novel, this time of the holiday variety - The Christmas Wish! I previously read her book In Case You Missed It, which had me in stitches, so I was excited to pick up this humorous holiday read. Surprisingly enough, despite being amusing, this novel in which a 30-something woman relives a cringe-worthy Christmas Day over and over again is also incredibly insightful.
After a disastrous Christmas Day, Gwen Baker, newly single by way of a cheating boyfriend and unsure about her career future at her prestigious law firm, wakes up to discover it is Christmas Day … over and over again. How many times can Gwen relive all of her Christmas nightmares before she gets it right? As she tests out different theories, trying to find the key that will unlock Christmas playing on loop, she learns more about her family’s hopes and dreams, as well as her own, and gets closer to the handsome guy next door. This is definitely a Christmas to remember and one that will have Gwen learning more about herself and her loved ones than ever before.
Lindsey Kelk masterfully mixes humor and heart in The Christmas Wish! When you throw family together at the holidays, tensions are bound to run high, and Kelk perfectly captures all of these merry mishaps in her book. Main character Gwen is witty, funny, and slightly self-destructive, and it’s a lot of fun watching her live Christmas Day on repeat, getting it drastically wrong every time. As she searches for her truth in each Christmas scenario, Gwen discovers what she truly wants out of life, making this introspective novel a great transition read to go from the joys of Christmas to the fresh starts of the New Year.
Thank you for the advanced reader copy of this cute Groundhog Day holiday novel. I loved the premis of this book and how easily the plot flowed.
This is a delightful holiday romance book. The best of the 3 I've read so far this year. It hit all the perfect notes of having both humor and heart. I loved that the story of self-discovery, family healing, and romance, all unwrapped together simultaneously in a pleasant way. Though the idea of a day that repeats over and over again has obviously been done before in books and film, this idea didn't feel recycled or old here. Overall a pleasant read to be snowed in with.
Thank you for sending me this eARC!
This groundhog day style, christmas romance novel was a very well written and enjoyable experience! I loved getting to know Gwen and Dev's characters.
I hope everyone else enjoys this book as much as I did!
The Christmas Wish, by Lindsey Kelk, is an incredibly charming, comedic, but deeply thoughtful Christmas story set in Derbyshire, England. It a festive, Christmas tale complete with all the British holiday traditions and humorous antics that often occur at family gatherings.
We follow a young woman, Gwen Baker, who looks forward to spending Christmas Day with her family. She’s desperately hoping they won’t notice the fact that she’s not only not with her longtime boyfriend, but also not currently employed in her prestigious job her father is so impressed with. In an attempt to forget her unfortunate circumstances, Gwen hopes to lose herself in the festivities of Christmas, but somehow finds herself stuck in a kind of Groundhog Day scenario where she has to relive Christmas Day with her family again and again, which didn’t turn out all that well the first time around. This bizarre situation forces her to look at each of the relationships in her life and to re-examine them with the mindset of helping them achieve their greatest Christmas wish, including her own.
This story definitely has a light romantic element to it which is charming and sweet, but it’s emphasis is more on self-reflection, finding one’s own happiness, and personal growth. It’s an unusually insightful story for a Christmas book, with a lovely message, but also fun comedic banter. There are a few elements I wasn’t a fan of, but overall it is a unique and meaningful story and a new favorite of mine.
Disclaimer - I received a free digital copy of this book for an honest review.
10/10 this is now one of my new favorite Christmas reads!
I originally requested a copy of this book because I saw Emily Henry had given it a review, so I knew I could not go wrong with this book THANK YOU, QUEEN. I started reading this while reading another book, but that book down and inhaled this book in like two days it was so cute!
Gwen Baker, a London lawyer, is going home for the holidays with her totally lovable cousin Manny. Not in the slightest bit of holiday spirit can be found in Gwen, as recently her life has begun to crumble around her, so when she finds herself living the Groundhogs Day of Christmas - repeating the same day over and over she is living in a true nightmare.
Gwen has to figure out why this is happening, and how to escape to a tomorrow that never seems to come. Each day has emotion, completely relatable family dysfunctionality, humor and hijinks, and even a little splash of a budding romance. What Christmas story wouldn't have a romance boy-next-door subplot, right?!
Amazing writing style, unique characters, and SO relatable!
Kindle is the only way I can read now that I always have one hand full 🥰
Just finished my NetGalley copy of The Christmas Wish. It was face paced, light hearted, and the pop culture references made me LOL. I will be checking out Lindsey Kelk’s other books 📚

This was such a cute Christmas romance. I wasn't sure if I would like the repetitiveness of reliving the same day over and over, but I actually loved it. Each time she relive the day it was so different. I really liked how each day kind of focused on a different member of the family. We got to know each character so well. I also really liked how everything resolved and wrapped up, especially in the epilogue of next years Christmas. I really enjoyed this book!
The Christmas Wish Book Review

Gwen Baker is headed to her small English countryside hometown for the holidays. Her goal is to avoid conversations about the jerk ex boyfriend who broke her heart and her career as a lawyer that’s hanging by a thread. Can she do it while not arguing with her sister, dodging insults from her brother in law, and reacquainting herself with her boy next door childhood crush? All things are possible when she wakes up the day after Christmas reliving the holiday all over again. With the holiday playing on repeat, Gwen may figure out some things are simply unavoidable.
🎄After reading the book synopsis provided, I was under the impression that this was a romance Christmas read. After reading it, i would say “The Christmas Wish” is more of a Christmas contemporary fiction about a young woman facing her truths and exploring self discovery with a side of a romantic plot.
🎄Gwen’s family members had distinct characteristics that set them apart from each other. The reader is able to appreciate Gwen’s relationship with each character when she’s helping them acquire their Christmas wishes on this Christmas Day merry go round.
🎄The amount of times the day repeated felt never ending and frustrating. The monotony of it took away from the important points of the plot.
🎄There were several witty one liners that had me chuckling aloud and her romance with her neighbor crush turned hot cardiologist was endearing.
🎄Overall, “The Christmas Wish” was a cute easy holiday read that is perfect for this time of year!
Super cute, easy read! I loved all the references to pop culture, I found them really funny. If you like childhood friends to lovers, read this book!
4.5⭐️
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk was a joy to read. I laughed out loud a lot because I have the same scene of humor as the author. It was a sort of mishmash of Ground Hog Day, It’s a Wonderful Life and Lucille Ball tagging along. Parts of this was hilarious!
The family wasn’t very likable to start but I grew to love all of them.
This novel was different and I thought it was well done. I recommend it if you love Christmas.
Thanks Harper Collins via NetGalley.
4.75 rounded to 5!
Gwen Baker is a newly single, big city lawyer, who has returned to her quiet hometown for a lowkey Christmas with her family. After spending a few months shutting herself away with her leftover feelings from a painful breakup, she is forced to reexamine her life and what she truly wants in order to end a Groundhog Day time loop. Gwen, much to her chagrin, finds herself repeating Christmas day over and over. Luckily, she finds some relief in the form of a handsome neighbor, who just happens to be her former childhood crush. But is he actually the cure?
Okay, this was the holiday read I had been wanting to find! This book is funny, cute and almost fluffy. While there are some mentions of cheating (past partner), sibling rivalry/dysfunctional family, grief (past), and disciplinary leave from employment, the book still has an overall lighter feel.
I found this story to have a somewhat similar premise to another holiday book I recently finished - except this book was done 100% better. These characters were more fleshed out, the story was more complete, and the banter/humor was top notch. In my opinion, the pacing for the time loop was also perfect. Gwen didn't immediately solve the "problem" and she didn't solve it in the sole way that you'd assume. The time loop also didn't begin immediately, which I feel was important as it allowed the characters and story to gain some traction first.
Truthfully, I did wish we had learned a little more about current day Dev. Although, I may have just read too many dual POV stories before this one. However, the final chapter did help with that. Despite everyone and everything ending in a way you would hope, the final chapter did not feel like the forced/rushed epilogue that we commonly see.
Holiday read - check
One liners - check
Family drama - check
3.5 rating but with NetGalley & Goodreads I am rounding up to 4
I have been wanting a good Christmas read, & I finally found it! I went into this one pretty blind since I had forgot what this one was about. I loved this read so much, it was a pleasant surprise that this one didn’t fall into the same typical Holiday loop I feel like I have been stuck in!
The family dysfunction in this story were written so well, I had some good laughs and some good sighs with this one, I was about to actually feel like the characters were real with how well this was written, This will be on my top Holiday reads of 2022
Gwen Baker is newly single, on leave from her job for an incident, and is on the way to spend Christmas with her family... what could go wrong? After an extremely eventful and stressful Christmas spent with family that didn't necessarily end that way she would have like, Gwen wakes up to find herself being forced to do it again. And again. And again. In a Christmas groundhog day's situation, Gwen finds out that everything isn't always as it seems and that life has many twists and turns that can lead to beautiful outcomes.
This might be one of my favorite Christmas stories that I have ever read. As a protagonist, Gwen is just a delight. She is set in her ways, but is able to grow, learn, and flourish. I absolutely loved the side characters of Dev and Manny who is a doll. I also loved all the pop culture references in the story, from Bravo to Taylor Swift. Felt like I for sure could be best friends with Gwen. The story was such a fun new take on a Christmas story, and I left feeling warm and fuzzy on the inside with SO much Christmas Spirit. I highly recommend this book for the comfy cozy vibes and such a funny but heartwarming story.
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this fantastic Christmas read! All opinions in this review are my own.
Review will be posted on 12/21
Gwen Baker is newly single and her job as a lawyer is in question after an incident at work. She is heading home for the holidays to her childhood home of Baslow. While there, she has to deal with her family's expectations as well as her critical sister. Plus, there's all the holiday chaos of a family coming together under one roof along with all of their physical and mental baggage. Things start to get extra weird when Gwen finds herself stuck in a time loop. She is repeating the same 24 hours of Christmas over and over again. While this is 100% stressful, she starts to realize thing about her friends and family as well as herself. The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk is a very fun and hilarious holiday read reminiscent of Groundhog Day.
I liked Gwen right from the start of The Christmas Wish. She had a meltdown at work, which seems a bit extreme, but she has absolutely had it with this one client. Now she isn't sure if she will be fired and she has to return home to tell her dad this bad news. He has always admired her work as a lawyer, so this will be disappointing to him. On top of it, she is newly single and won't be bringing anyone home to Christmas this year. Her sister, Cerys, and her family will be there and things don't always go well with her overly critical sister and her inappropriate brother-in-law. Thank goodness her cousin, Manny, will be there with her to help her through the mess.
And by mess, I mean the fact that Gwen wakes up and it's Christmas Day again in. She finds herself stuck in this time loop with no way out. It's exhausting, but she starts to realize not only some things about herself, but also her family members. She sees things in a new light and this time loop not only gives her time to reconnect with her sister, but also with Dev, her childhood crush who lives next door. Could he actually have feelings for her too after all this time or are the rumors true that he is engaged?
The absolute best parts of The Christmas Wish are the funny holiday antics as well as the witty banter. I was laughing out loud, which I rarely do when I read a book. So much so that I was in public in a waiting room and shaking with silent laughter. Kelk really hits it out of the park with her British dry humor, her one-liners, as well as the hilarious situations her characters find themselves in during a family holiday get-together.
I really needed a laugh this holiday season, so easily I can say that The Christmas Wish is my favorite holiday book of the year. I highly recommend it if you need something funny, light, and a character who will remind you of Bridget Jones. So, have you read The Christmas Wish? Is it on your TBR list? Let me know in the comments below.
Wow! What a great Christmas read! I'll admit that at first I wasn't really sure if I was going to be able to get in to the story, however as soon as the twist took place I was hooked. I'm a sucker for stories with personal and relationship growth, and this book had both and I think it was done well. I also love friends to lovers as a trope, and was happy to find that this book delivered all that and more! As an American, I will admit some of the lingo was a bit confusing and I even laughed at some of it. I will definitely read more from this author. I recommend this to anyone looking for a light, fluffy Christmas-time read. Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for allowing me to read and review this book.
When I first read the synopsis for this book I was honestly less than thrilled to find I was about to read yet another Christmas Ground Hog Day-esque time loop novel. With that being said I was honestly pleasantly surprised. The characters are well-developed and they're a realistic dysfunctional family. I think a lot of great lessons can be learned from this book and the different things each family member is going through unbeknownst to their loved ones. I really enjoyed seeing the main character Gwen's growth as she helped each of her family members get their Christmas wish.
The book follows newly cheated on and dumped, Gwen Baker who is headed home for the holidays. Christmas day goes as expected. She has a fight with her sister and upsets her father's dream for her career. Everyone else seems to have it all together including her childhood crush next door neighbor Dev.
The next day Gwen awakes to find it is Christmas day again and all of the disagreements start over. As she tries to find her way out of this hellious time loop, she finds herself enjoying Dev's company each day. Unfortunately Dev can't remember their interactions from the days before. Gwen continues to hunt for a way out of the time loop as she finds herself falling for Dev.
A fun holiday read with heart. It's like the movie Groundhog Day except it's Christmas. If you are looking for a lighthearted holiday read check this one out. I received the ARC from netgalley for an honest review.
This story follows Gwen Baker who goes back to her countryside home to spend the holidays with her family. Her career as a Lawyer is at risk, her boyfriend left her for his secretary, and she keeps repeating the same day over and over in a “Groundhog’s Day” time loop.
Despite the chaos and family drama, Gwen spends each day making her family’s wishes come true.
This story had many laugh out loud moments, chaos, and second chance romance between Gwen and her childhood crush Dev. The book had Hallmark movie vibes and was an enjoyable Christmas read.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for providing a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.
My Christmas Wish 🎄
“𝑇𝑜𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑟𝑜𝑤 𝑖𝑠 𝑛𝑜𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛 𝑦𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑑𝑎𝑦𝑠 𝑡𝑜𝑑𝑎𝑦. 𝑇ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑜𝑛 𝑖𝑡.”
Seriously laugh out loud funny. So much so, my boyfriend would look over at me and ask about it. This book was definitely categorized wrong as a romance. It was more of a coming into self, comedy with a touch of romance. I think for this reason I was let down the first half of the book wishing for romance? Once I let go of that notion I really started to enjoy it.
Groundhog Day style without being over-repetitive. This really played out like a movie in my head and wish it would become one. Perfect light-hearted read for the holidays. I’m excited to keep this author on my radar and see what she does next!
Ty for the ARC!

Another perfect holiday book... in the books! The Christmas Wish was a lovely and very relatable holiday book. I connected so much with Gwen and really enjoyed the groundhog day feel to the story. Definitely will be seeking out more books by this author!
More of a heartwarming Christmas tale than a love story, but I really loved The Christmas Wish! A "Groundhog Day" story, Gwen spends her Christmas trying to fulfill the wishes of her family members and friends in order to get out of the infinite loop of living Christmas Day over and over again. I loved Gwen's spirit, and the colorful characters in the story. I wouldn't call this a comedy, but the humor added to the fun of the story. Cute Christmas read.
After, I started this book I could not put it down. Set in the countryside north of London, Gwen is stuck living Christmas over and over. Each day she learns something new about each of her family members and herself.
After thoroughly enjoying this read, I decided The Christmas Wish is my favorite Christmas rom-com (although an atypical one) for 2022. Featuring a “Groundhog Day” type loop, workaholic London lawyer, Gwen Baker, finds herself in the enviable (or questionable) position of reliving Christmas Eve with her family over and over. Author Lindsey Kelk uses the device to take the story to another level as a charming, but flawed, cast of characters works through romantic relationships, family drama and a wide range of life lessons. She adds in a good dose of holiday cheer and laugh out loud humor for good measure.
Even though it was a bit slow in places, and the plot pushes the believability factor a bit far in a few spots, the characters and their stories were endearing and entertaining enough to redeem any minor hiccups. I predict this holiday read will entertain a lot of readers.
FYI - I received a copy of this book through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This book was a cute story.
I love how through reliving Gwen was focused on trying to help a different member of her family each day thinking that by helping them that would fix the timeline. It made her seem less selfish even though it was for selfish reasons. I loved the interactions she was able to have especially with her mother.
The sad part to me is that her family will never remember those moments moving forward and her mother will never truly know just how much she tried to help her out.
Things I didn't like.
HER DAD.
I get it, it was literally a huge part of the story but I found myself getting so angry at him and how he treated his daughters and that he was constantly looking at his life with regrets.
Overall I liked this story it was a fun holiday read and a quick one at that. I look forward to reading more from Lindsey Kelk in the future
“The Christmas Wish” by Lindsey Kelk is such a sweet holiday novel! When newly single Gwen heads home for the holidays, she is hoping to find healing and distraction from all that is wrong in her life. She finds that her next door neighbor, Dev, is also home for the holidays and even though he is now grown, he is still the sweet boy she remembers. Gwen wakes the next morning to realize she is living Christmas Day all over again. This book is full of cute banter and lovable characters! Thanks so much to NetGalley and publisher for this ARC.
Loved this holiday book, this is what Holidaze by Christina Lauren’s wishes it had been! I loved the believable Groundhog Day scenario and how much the character grows, not by anyone else but by her own ability to take stock and make changes. This author’s writing style had me loling for real, which is always an added bonus.
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk is a Christmas twist on Groundhog Day. Gwen finds herself dreading her family Christmas since she’s been down on her luck. Her long-term boyfriend kicked her out, and her job at a prestigious law firm is in jeopardy. Christmas #1 starts with a bang, and Gwen wakes up only to find Christmas has repeated itself, again and again.
It’s up to Gwen to figure out how to fix the time loop by helping each of her loved ones find their happiness. In typical Lindsey Kelk fashion, this book is funny and heartwarming, and the perfect Christmas book!
Thank you HarperCollins and NetGalley for the copy to review. The Christmas Wish is out now.
I think you are either a time loop fan or a hater.
I am a fan. I have seen Groundhog Day countless times and I still laugh. The Christmas Wish is a time loop holiday romcom about Gwen, a newly single, newly unemployed lawyer, who is at her parents’ country house for Christmas and will only get out of the time loop if she makes everyone’s Christmas Wish come true. There is second chance romance, mending of fractured family relationships, and a journey of self discovery for Gwen as she finds herself, finds love and finds what makes her happy and not just what is expected of her. I gobbled this book up. So many zingy one liners and pop culture references that had me giggling and laughing out loud. It was just such a fun holiday read that I absolutely loved. And yet another book where a woman needed to leave her big law firm job… there is a theme going on with my recent reads.
This book was super cute! I don’t typically read RomCom’s but I love Christmas ones, specifically Groundhog Day ones.
I found myself genuinely laughing out loud to Gwen’s relatable incidents and thoughts. I love how quick and witty she was. The family banter was so incredibly realistic I found myself remembering my own family banter at holiday time.
The plot itself was actually very entertaining. Of course with time loops, it can seem repetitive, but the way Lindsey Kelk wrote the story made it so entertaining as Gwen became more desperate.
I enjoyed reading this book, so perfect for Christmas season, thank you so much netgalley for sending me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest feedback.
Wow this book was funny. While this one is definitely more “com” than “rom” with the romance only happening towards the end, it still made for a perfect Christmas read
Normally a time-loop plot doesn’t work for me but I think the author did it perfectly…and a repeat Christmas Day? Probably the only day that I’d enjoy over and over again. 😂
The humour had me laughing out loud and texting friends that they HAD to read it. Loved the Christmas setting, Gwen and Manny’s friend/sibling banter, characters that you love to hate (Oliver - the WORST), and all of the family dynamics. The romance was short, but sweet.
I did find the time-loop got old after awhile but that could just be me, I was waiting for it to be the last one.
One other thing I loved - Gwen’s dad calling her “chicken” as a nickname - my husband calls our oldest that so it made me smile every time. 😍
Short synopsis: After a huge breakup and trouble at work, Gwen returns home for Christmas. Only to find herself stuck in a time loop where she keeps repeating Christmas Day.
My thoughts: This was a cute Christmas read with the moral of the story being to find your own happiness, and go for it despite what others think.
There was definitely some giggle worthy moments in this, such as fireworks being stored in the pantry blowing up the house. And lots of fun pop culture references.
It did seem a little long, with her repeating the same day more than nine times, but I liked seeing Gwen’s relationships with her family grow as she tried to grant each of their wishes. The last chapter was a nice wrap up of the whole story that tied everything up in a nice little bow.
Read if you love:
- Eccentric families
- Friends to lovers
- Magical realism
- Pop culture references

Thank you Harper Collins for the complementary copy of this book! Publication date was Nov 15, 2022 so this is out now!
3.5 stars rounded up - First of all, you can tell from reading this that Lindsey Kelk is cooler than I'll ever be. This is great for Taylor Swift lovers. I was shocked by the amount of current references (a particular reference to daily kindle deals books was a little too relatable).
I would almost say this book is less of a romance and more about a woman learning about herself and her relationship with her family. The first half was a little slow and very Hallmarky, but I felt like this was shifted in the second half. But overall, I still enjoyed it! I was worried that it would be the exact same as in a holidaze by Christina Lauren (which is my fav holiday romance of all time), but I think this is unique in a lot of ways.
This book is sheer Christmas perfection!
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk is the BEST Christmas book! No one can tell me different. This book does a fantastic job of capturing the complex elements the holidays bring about.
The end of the year celebration is a time to be spent with family and friends. We break out the tried and true traditions that have been apart of our lives for decades. But, along with this comes forced interaction with people we don’t always see eye to eye with.
While Kelk asks her reader to suspend reality when reading her Christmas groundhog tale, that is where the make believe ends. This book addresses topics such as finding one’s purpose in life, stepping out on faith, learning one’s worth, etc. Kelk isn’t afraid to go deep, but somehow managed to still keep it light-hearted!
This was an absolute delight to read! I found myself flying through the story. I highly recommend picking up a copy to help you get in the festive spirit!
Special thanks to NetGalley and Harper 360 (Harper Collins) for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
You just can’t go wrong with Lindsey Kelks books. They make you laugh, they make you teary and they always make you feel good! I looooved this one so much. I wasn’t sure about the Groundhog Day vibes but it worked so well for Gwen’s story and I loved following along her journey of discovering herself and building stronger relationships with her family members. Definitely recommend this one!
This was a cute christmas groundhog type story. I liked the repeated day and how the author didn't make you go through some of the same details every time. They jumped straight to what happened differently that day. It was a cute little rom com that got me in the holiday spirit.
Groundhogs day meets Hallmark Christmas in the best way. The Christmas Wish is more than a feel good romance and has some enjoyable family moments that had me laughing out loud.
An ode to Groundhog Day through the quintessential small town Christmas book. When Gwen wakes up to Christmas Day…. Every day…. She has to figure out how to make the time loop stop.
As she tries to grant the wishes of all her relatives, she learns a lot about them and their daily struggles… and most of all she looks inward and learns about herself.
While I didn’t necessarily love Groundhog Day as a movie, I did really enjoy this book.
There were lovable and relatable characters, drama, and some laughter too!
A great read to get you into the holiday spirit.
This was such a cute book! It literally was a groundhog day Christmas. It was so funny! I loved Manny and Gwen. They made the story. All the characters were great. All the shenanigans Gwen gets into had my rollin with laughter. She literally was a magnet for chaos. Overall it’s a funny Christmas read that I highly recommend.
This was my first book written by this author. I definitely will be checking out others. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to review.
I absolutely adored this book! What I thought was going to be another Hallmark Christmas Movie-esque read, ended up being so much more than that and such a tender read this holiday season.
The main character is at her absolute rock bottom as she goes back to her small town for Christmas with her cousin/best friend/brother. So here I am thinking, okay she's going to go back for the holidays, find love, and be repaired. But NO, it was so much better than that. I don't want to give away too much- but this read dove into repairing family relationships and slowing down to understand what is truly going on in the lives of the loved ones around you and your own life. There is a groundhog day situation going on, and through each day you get to know more about Gwen and about the life of one of her family members.
The only thing that made me sad about this read (this is only going to make sense if you also read this book!) was that every day Gwen got to experience and healing from, the loved one wouldn't remember the next day and deep down, I really wanted them to!
If you loved reading In a Holidaze, but want a bit more than romance- I HIGHLY suggest this read!
What did I love about The Christmas Wish? I loved everything about it. It give me all the good feels that I look for in a Christmas book. Definitely for the fans of Groundhog Day as Gwen gets stuck in a similar loop while celebrating Christmas with her family and friends. The characters made me laugh out loud and every single one of them one made my heart melt. The dialog is refreshing and full of fun pop culture references. This is the perfect book to get lost in. Highly recommended.
I really loved this book! It's like "Groundhog Day" except Christmas, and the results are hilariously entertaining. The premise is similar to Christina Lauren's "In A Holidaze" but both books stand on their own. Gwen is such a fun character to relive Christmas Day with.
This was a sweet seasonal read! I loved that there was more to it than I thought there would be. It was more than just a romance and I loved the family aspect of it. The groundhog day trope doesnt always work for me, but I thought this was well done.
Very cute premise. Reminded me of Groundhog Day. The characters were believable in a magical world. Just enough family drama and romance for the holiday season.
Thank you NetGalley for an eARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review. The Christmas Wish is a holiday treat. Focusing in on the life of lawyer, Gwen Baker; The Christmas Wish is a tale of standing up for yourself, the pursuit of happiness, family bonds, and a twist of how time can feel like you are on a loop. This was my second novel of the holiday season and it was a fantastic addition. Gwen is relatable, Nan is a hoot of a sassy Grandmother, and we all need a Dev in our life! I will definitely recommend this to family and friends that are looking for a good holiday read.
This was a fun Christmas read a la Deja Vu and Groundhog Day. (As an American) I love Christmas stories that take place in the UK. It gives me the feeling of watching Love Actually and being placed in the story of England at Christmastime. We follow Gwen, who recently has been suspended from her very sought after job at a high profile London law firm after throwing a stapler at one of her egregious male co-worker. Gwen has been struggling. She's recently broken up with her boyfriend, Michael of 4 years after he cheats on her with his receptionist, and she's sort of dreading the Christmas holidays this season. Not only do her family not know the reason for her suspension from work, they also don't know that Gwen may be questioning her career. When a wish for the annual sixpence Christmas pudding is up for grabs and a fireworks display goes awry, Gwen wishes she could find a way to not only find happiness for herself, but to find happiness for her family. When Gwen wakes up the next morning, she finds that it's Christmas all over again, and again and again. Gwen sets out to set things right with each of her family members to make it to the day after Christmas and maybe find love along the way.
This book is a fun Christmas twist on Groundhog’s Day. When Gwen travels home (with her hilarious cousin Manny) she finds herself reliving Christmas Day over and over again. With a dysfunctional family, hilarious mishaps, and a hunky boy next door who used to be her teenage crush this book has it all for the holiday season. Gwen tries to break the constant loop of Christmas by trying to make her family’s random wishes come true and I enjoyed every minute!
I really enjoyed this Christmas version of Groundhog's Day. There are times where this trope is difficult to loop through multiple times but in this case, it was well done and Gwen learned new things about herself and her family in each to grow without getting petulant and whiny as it often goes along. Each of the characters was well-developed and I felt like they had an opportunity to end up in a better place. Through all of this, there was plenty of laughing at some of the scenarios as they played out. Overall, I enjoyed and would recommend to others for a fun Christmas read.
A really fun, Christmas RomCom. It gives all the things you look for in feel good holiday entertainment:
-fun banter between characters (a plus if you enjoy British humor)
-dysfunctional family Christmas
-the FMC has to do a lot of soul searching to understand the important lessons in life
-cute holiday romance sprinkled in (without spice)
It’s exactly what I was looking for in a light-hearted Christmas read.
This was my first introduction to Lindsey Kelk’s writing and I’m looking forward to reading more!
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper 360 for this eARC.
I LOVED this book! There was so much humor and witty one liners that it was easy to fall in love with this author’s writing!
The characters, both main and supporting, were likable, interesting and I loved the character growth and chemistry between them all. Though this book had me laughing out loud at almost every page, there was also a lot of depth and heart to it too. Due to the Groundhog Day theme, The main character goes on a wonderful journey of self-realization, ending with a lovely message about living a life that truly brings you joy as well as being thankful for each new tomorrow!
I also liked that while there was a love story as a storyline, it wasn’t the focal point of the book which made it more multi-layered than most holiday reads I pick up. My only complaint was how long the chapters were, but this was such an entertaining and easy read, that I still found myself flying through chapters. Overall, I can’t recommend this book enough this holiday season. I will absolutely be picking up previously written books along with future books by this author!
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins for this e-ARC!
Such a cute and hilarious Christmas rom-com. Swap out Bill Murray and Groundhog Day and put in Gwen, a newly dumped, ex lawyer on Christmas Day. I really enjoyed this one, adorable.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Groundhog Day meets Christmas in this cute tale, which is more family drama than romance. The story is very British and at times the quirk incorporated borders on too much, but Gwen's soul searching journey of self-discovery following personal and professional tragedies coupled with her quest to help family members helps ground everything nicely. A delightful read for the holiday season!
I'm not typically a fan of "Groundhog Day" type storylines where the character lives the same day over and over again. However, Lindsey Kelk does a nice job with this plot. She gives it a breath of fresh air and some original twists and it doesn't feel too repetitive or overdone.
Gwen has come home for the holidays. Her family is unaware that her personal life is in complete shambles. They know she's broken up with her boyfriend, but they are unaware of the precarious position her career is in. She continues putting off telling them for fear of disappointing her father. When she starts reliving the same day over and over, Gwen assumes there is something she isn't doing that is causing the day to continue repeating. Determined to make a change so she can escape the time loop, Gwen makes a different change each day, but continues waking up to the same day anyway. Of course, to complicate the process, Gwen's old friend and former crush, Dev is home visiting his family as well. But, Gwen believes he's engaged and therefore off limits. All of this adds to her frustration and inability to focus on the task at hand.
This was another enjoyable read by Lindsey Kelk. I truly enjoy her writing and look forward to her books. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to read and review it and the opinions contained within are my own.
This is my first book from Lindsey Kelk but it won't be the last! The perfect Christmas read that was full of holiday cheer - over and over again! This is a classic Groundhog's Day trope, but was executed well. Definitely give this one a read this holiday season!
Lindsey rings in the holiday season with sheer hilarity! The Christmas Wish gives Groundhog Day a run for its money with a Christmas Day that just won’t end!
Gwen is having the worst run of luck! Heading home for the holidays with her cousin Manny, she wants to leave the disaster that is her job, relationship, and living situation behind in London – away from the prying eyes of parents and unsolicited scrutiny of her sister. Returning to her small hometown village, Gwen is determined to keep the peace (while maintaining her sanity) and steer the conversation away from anything that may trigger the typical family meltdown. All is well until her sister and the gang arrive. One disaster after the next, Gwen ends her day with relief that it’s finally over and can be forgotten – until she wakes up to Christmas Day…again! Stuck in a time loop, Gwen can’t figure out why she is trapped, doomed to relive one of her worst days over and over again. Through trial and hilarious error, Gwen, with the help of her gorgeous childhood crush Dev, learns through each repeated day that life isn’t always as it seems and the truth isn’t hard to find if you are willing to open your eyes and see what’s right in front of you.
What I liked about this book: Lindsey is the master of witty banter and sarcastic remarks! I was laughing straight out the gate with this one and it never stopped. What I really enjoyed was the twist resolution! I just knew what was going to end the loop and was shocked when she woke up on Christmas Day again! I also enjoyed Gwen’s reaction to each day – Lindsey literally wrote the same day countless times but each one was so different, such an adventure, so intuitive, and slivers of personal growth that you don’t realize how they are stacking on top of each other until Gwen does.
What I loved about this book: I loved how deeply the story dove into the supporting characters. It wasn’t just about Gwen’s story, journey, and growth – you were given a peek behind everyone’s curtain, what all of her family was going through that you would have never known if the loop didn’t happen. It is a reminder that we really don’t know what is going on in someone’s life and what they tell us and how they are feeling may be worlds apart. While every situation may not warrant a look under the covers, it is a nice reminder to not take everything at surface level – if we are capable of hiding our own emotions, situations, feelings, why doubt others are doing it as well. Check-in with the people in your life, really check-in and you may be surprised what you didn’t know.
From heartwarming moments to hysterical situations (and one steamy meetup), the Christmas Wish will quickly become one of your holiday romance favorites.
I went to bed at 5AM because I could not put this book down, It was so good. After I finished it I felt so warm inside. I love movies and books about reliving the same day and seeing what the person learns each day, not only that but also how she improves. The main character truly didn’t know how to come out of this shell, she’s basically doing everything that everyone expects her to, shes living a life that she has finally realized isn’t for her and she feels stuck not wanting her desire of a fresh start to ruin the way others see her. Especially her family. Which is something that i can relate to.I cannot recommend this book enough. It was so fast paced and the repeated day storyline didn’t get boring or overdone. It was really well written and there was a lot of great quotes that I highlighted because it was exactly how I was feeling. I loved it.
This book was very cute, funny and absolutely perfect for the holidays. It was a fast read, with funny characters that have depth. No spice though, just a lot of build up!
The story follows Gwen as she is reliving Christmas day over and over again trying to grant her family members wishes. She ends up learning a lot about her family and of course about herself. Plus there is a hunky next door neighbor.
I really enjoyed this book and definitely recommend.
I received an ARC from NetGalley.
The best part about the Christmas Wish was the ending- it was so so so so cute. Loved the Groundhog Day trope- but it got a little repetitive after awhile. Still an adorable read!!!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC copy of this book to read and review. All of these thoughts and comments are my own.
This was just a cute and fun read. There were multiple times I laughed out loud. I really love Manny and Gwen’s friendship. I know they are cousins but I just really love the bond they have. The romance in this book was really good too. I like how it wasn’t rushed or like over the top. It worked out really well in the end and felt more realistic to me.
I also really loved the idea of the sixpence wish and having to repeat Christmas over and over until you learn the value lesson that is to be learned. I think this book really teaches you that you don’t know everyone’s struggle so maybe you just need to sit back and offer helping hand when you can.
I gave this book 5 stars because I personally just really freaking loved it.
‘People don’t always see what’s right in front of them,’ he replied lightly. ‘Especially when it’s been around forever.’
Based on. What if Christmas Day became the Groundhogs Day movie but revolved around the six pence in the Christmas pudding. Traveling the British countryside Gwen Baker has no clue that her Christmas is about to become a seemingly unending time loop complete with pictures of unmentionables, trespassing, training the neighbor with pud, a death trap of a camp bed, your childhood crush, and so much more!
This book was so delightful. I wanted to have a cup of tea with Gwen and eat Butty Biscuits. And Manny can do.my hair any time!
The characters, all of them, grew. And it was do nice to read and watch. Gwen found closure, found common ground with her sister, made herself vulnerable, and found herself in a lifesize Barbie bathroom.
I highly recommend this joyous book.
I so thankful for this opportunity from NetGalley and Harper Collins Publishing for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
This was another great addition to my holiday reading list! This British holiday read had a bit of a Groundhog's day type theme, which I was reluctant about at first but ended up loving. Gwen Baker is a single lawyer who no longer loves her career or her overall direction. She is heading home to the country to spend Christmas with her family. Then she wakes up and realizes that it's Christmas day AGAIN…over and over. Sprinkle in some family drama and a romance with her high school crush! I found this book to be humorous and charming and I recommend to anyone looking to read a little little holiday cheer! Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the arc in return for an honest review
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk
If you liked the movie Groundhog’s Day, this book is definitely for you! I just loved this book. From the witty dialogue, delightful characters, hilarious disasters, and a few life lessons, it was just such a good book. Read it.
Many thanks to Lindsey Kelk, NetGalley, and Harper 360 for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a cute Groundhog Day remake!
Sometimes it felt like too many days repeating but I adored the ending and how each day brought Gwen closer to her family and true self.
A fun, Christmas story that seems to be a little bit more family dramedy than pure romance (even though there is romance!). I loved the second chance love story and the dysfunctionally insane family. The time travel/groundhog day element was well done and even though it took a minute to hook me, when the hook hit it hit well!
Gwen is having a terrible Christmas- she’s single after her long term boyfriend cheats with his receptionist, she’s on leave at work, and her family holiday isn’t going well. When she wakes up the next day, she’s shocked to find out that it’s Christmas all over again! Gwen tries different strategies to get herself back to the present. Will she be stuck in an endless loop of Christmas days, or will she figure out whose wish needs to be granted to make it to the next day?
I really enjoyed this book! It’s a cute holiday read with laugh out loud moments and funny dialogue. The romance aspect was more minimal than I expected, and there is no spice. However, the groundhog’s day storyline is funny and makes the book interesting. Gwen and Manny were witty and relatable as main and supporting characters. I liked Dev but really didn’t get enough of him, I felt like the book could have used more development of his character. Overall, this is a cute holiday romcom that I enjoyed!
Thank you to Lindsey Kelk, Harper Collins, and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Groundhog day is one of my favorite tropes, and I absolutely loved how it was done here. I love that the characters are so clearly imperfect and real, and it was such a joy to dive into this story. I especially loved listening to the audiobook. Definitely would recommend this to anyone looking for a cute holiday romance, especially for those who liked In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren.
This sweet Christmas romance takes the reader on a holiday journey Groundhog Day style. Our heroine, Gwen Baker is stuck in a Christmas time loop. She figures that it has something to do with the wish of whoever got the sixpence at Christmas Lunch. Could it be one of her parents? Her sister? Her gran? Her cousin maybe? And then there's the boy next door whom she's harbored a crush on for decades. As she goes through Christmas Day after Christmas Day, Gwen learns more about her family and herself than she ever thought she would.
I really loved this book. Each character was well rounded and fully fleshed out which is difficult to do in a fairly short holiday romance. I was really rooting for Gwen who was clearly going through a rough time but wasn't to whiny about it. The setting was sweet and the book really captured the feeling of being home for Christmas as an adult. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a cozy Christmas read.

Title: The Christmas Wish
Author: Lindsey Kelk
Rating: 4/5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
•
This was exactly what I needed to kick off Christmas season! This is not your typical holiday rom-com; its more of a family drama with some romance sprinkled in (exactly what my cold non romantic heart likes). This one started a bit slow, and I was a tad weary of the continuous time loop plot (especially with In A Holidaze being on of my favorite Holiday reads) but this was different, in a very good way. This story has layers, focusing on struggles with dysfunctional families, injustices in the work place, and even messy breakups. The character development and growth while facing these problems was perfect! And I’m not going to lie - I’m really liking this continuous the loop idea.
•
This gave me all the feels (one of my favorite kinds of reads). There were points through this one where I was laughing my ass off, plenty of times where I felt like I got a swift kick in my ass because I too have faced these problems and plenty of times I was grinning from ear to ear as my little black heart grew a few sizes. Like I said - all the feels. And the truth of it all of Gwens realizations were spot on.

This perfect Christmas read was just published November 15th and is definitely a must read this holiday season! Huge thank you to @netgalley, @lindseykelk and @harpercollins for the eARC in exchange for my honest review!

I loved The Christmas Wish! Christmas/Holiday books tend to be hit or miss for me, so I went into this with tempered expectations, but right from the start I was engaged and even laughing out loud. I was also leery with the Groundhog Day concept since it's been done so many times, but I didn't mind it at all here, and loved seeing the different interactions with Gwen and Dev. The whole book was entertaining and gives you that cozy holiday feeling, but still hits you in the emotions at different times, especially about not being where you thought you would be in life, and family expectations. I'll definitely be recommending this to friends, and it will probably become one that I reread each holiday season. Thank you to NetGalley, HarperCollins and Lindsey Kelk for the e-arc.
I am such a sucker for the “groundhog-day”trope. I don’t know why but I really love when the main character has to repeat the day over and over until they learn a special lesson. This book was a big hit for me. I was highly entertained the entire time and it was very thought out to where you didn’t get confused with all the do-overs. Gwen and Manny seriously made this book. They both were so funny and their banter had me laughing so hard. I love Dev, but I feel like I didn’t really get to know him since this book was focused on Gwen trying to learn why she was stuck in a time loop. I didn’t feel a connection with him, personally, and that’s the reason for 4 stars. I wish we had more time with Dev to get emotionally attached to him, but other than that, I really loved this and think it’s a great holiday book!
I want to start off by thanking NetGalley for my copy of this book!
Ok I’ll be honest, Ground Hog Day (repeating the same day over and over again)themed anything are kind of a no for me BUT Lindsey did it in a way that made it a super enjoyable read! The author did a good job at making each new repeated day totally different from the previous and I feel that’s where others lack when they attempt this.
I loved Gwen and Dev and their whole story because it reminded me of my childhood crush who also happened to be my neighbor, like in this book. Although my story never evolved quite like this one because he moved away when we were in 2nd grade haha
He and his family did however come back to visit almost every year, at least up till the first Harry Potter film was out (I don’t know why that particular part is what my brain chose to remember). But less visits happened as we got older and we lost touch even though we are still FB friends. It’s fun to remember those silly childhood crushes.
ANYWAY moving on lol
There were so many relatable moments in this story that just hit home for me. The description of what the characters consider a perfect Christmas, family all around the house while Christmas dinner is being prepped, watching home videos of past Christmas’ etc.
I also feel like the author is really good at knowing her audience and making her characters super relatable. Other than Gwen being a lawyer, I saw A LOT of myself in just how she handles and deals with life.
I loved Gwen’s family; in some ways it reminded me of my own and in others it reminded me of Clark Griswald’s family haha
Last but not least I adored the ending, ugh I think my heart grew 3 sizes!
I LOVED this book!!
A wonderfully festive Christmas novel mixed with Groundhog's Day, where the protagonist continues to re-live Christmas after disastrous Christmas until she figures out what the Universe is trying to teach her about life and about herself.
The characters were delightful, the disasters hilarious, and the life lessons priceless. I loved this book so much and can't wait to read more from the author.
Super cute! A good book to binge on a plane ride. I could have used a bit more romance, but I overall enjoyed!
Like Groundhog‘s Day but it’s Christmas every day! But you just lost your job and got dumped by your long term boyfriend. You have a strained relationship with your sister and you can’t figure out how to make Christmas Day stop. A cute holiday romance and a story about rekindling relationships + seeing relationships in a new light❤️
Such a cute Christmas romance! Kate lives in a small village in England and is talked into signing up for Twelve Dates of Christmas by her best friend. She is very involved in the village she grew up in and it’s very much a small town romance. There is drama, laughs, sweetness, family, and community- all the things I love. However I will say there is no spice, all closed door and one brief, mild dirty talk instance. But lots of fluffy, light moments which brought me joy!
Star rating:4/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was a fun holiday read with Groundhog vibes. Gwen has recently broken up with her long term boyfriend and also been put on suspension at work. Life isn’t turning out how she expected at all. Visiting her family for Christmas isn’t enjoyable for her and only reminds her how much she is failing at life. She goes to bed on Christmas night ready for the day to be over only to wake up having to relive it all again…and again! This is a story about finding ones self and figuring out who you are and what makes you happy.
It took me a bit to get into but once I did I couldn’t put it down. I couldn’t wait to see how her next Christmas Day was going to turn out and what trouble she’d find. There isn’t much romance but I loved what little there was. Very enjoyable read!
I really enjoyed this holiday book. It was the perfect balance of holiday content and hilarious laugh out loud dialogue. I did wish it had a bit more romance. You get little hints of it throughout and then it hits you at the end but I just wish the romance had been amped up a bit. This book is full of pop culture references but done in such a cute way. I loved how the author tackled the dysfunctional family dynamic, failed relationships, and career dreams but in a way that it didn’t cause the book to feel heavy. I did feel like it had In A Holidaze vibes. Both books have a Groundhog Day premise and both are trying to figure out how to break the curse. I read In A Holidaze last year so I felt like I was far enough removed from it. I wouldn’t recommend reading both this season. This book had me laughing out loud so many times and I definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a holiday read that is not just fluff.
Read if you like:

I love Christmas-themed novels, and this may be one of my favorites! While this premise was reminiscent of the stereotypical Hallmark holiday movie, it was not the typical read for this genre. It's a perfect mix of holiday and humor, and it was just what I needed. I loved the "Groundhog Day" aspect of the story, as well as how it impacted Gwen's personal growth and her relationships with her family members.. And as a fan of all things British, I loved all the British references/terminology. There is a romance angle, but, thankfully, it's not overpowering. Themes of grief, loneliness, trying to find your path in life, and searching for love will resonate with readers. The cast of characters is well-developed, and the small English village is a charming setting for the story. I've never read anything by Kelk in the past, but I will be checking them out, for sure!
Very fun adaptation of the movie Groundhog;'s Day set on Christmas. I read this very quickly. It is a fun Christmas story.
Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collinss, and author, Lindsey Kelk for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review. Love. Love. Love. I have found a new favorite author to watch- Ms. Kelk!
The characters were very unique and interesting people that you root for. I was obsessed with the whole family, zany neighbors, and cozy small-town setting. In this holiday fiction (definitely more women's fiction than romance in my opinion), big-shot London lawyer, Gwen Baker goes home to spend Christmas with her family. Gwen has a strained relationship with Dad, who is vicariously living through Gwen's successful career, and her older Sister. Due to multiple family fights and issues on Christmas day, Gwen gets stuck in a time loop, a la Groundhog Day. She goes on a crazy quest to discover how to get out of this disastrous time loop, all while rekindling her childhood crush on her neighbor, Dev. I am the biggest Dev and Nan stan! All of these characters' lines were so quotable and funny. I try to avoid any lawyer characters but, I will admit, the author did a great job of representing the big law field and the magic circle.
Some of my favorite quotes:
"My mum said he's a dentist?" Dev said with a smile. " But she has been known to be wrong before. Once. Before I was born. So the legends say."
"All you want as a mother is for your kids to have an easier go of it than you did...I know you all make fun of me for always thinking the worst but when you grow up without much, it's hard to imagine the best."
Gran talking about her deceased husband- "He always said if he went first. I couldn't remarry unless they were richer, cleverer or better-looking than him and I always said that would never happen because that man didn't exist. They broke the mold when they made your granddad."
"The sex was ridiculous, It was so good it made me want to make new friends just so I had more people to talk to about it over brunch."
A heartwarming Christmas take on Groundhog Day. Fun, engaging storyline with relatable characters who remind the reader what the most worthwhile wish is after all.
Cute Christmas story. I wasn’t expecting the magical element, but it added another layer of whimsy to the story. I enjoyed seeing the characters’ growth and progression over the book plus the emphasis on family and forgiveness.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for an arc in exchange for my honest review.
This book is absolutely adorable! There's a scene in this book that still makes me laugh! Grab a hot chocolate and curl up with this one!
The Christmas Wish has quickly shot to the top of my must read Christmas rom-com list! This book is filled with Christmas cheer, super heartwarming, and laugh-out-loud funny!
Groundhog Day but make it Christmas? I'm in! Gwen is heading back home for Christmas but her life is not ideal these days. Her longtime boyfriend just left her for his receptionist, her job is uncertain, and her family relationships are strained. When she gets a chance for lots of Christmas do-overs can she make it all better? And will she ever get out of the endless loop of Christmas day?
This is my favorite Lindsey Kelk I've ever read. Her comedic voice in the book is so strong. I really did laugh out loud multiple times. The writing is also very charming. I was concerned that the Groundhog element would get redundant, but I feel like she made each new day feel fresh and interesting. Gwen and her family were a joy to read about, and I wanted good things for all of them. While there is a romantic element, the romance story line isn't the focus of the book. It was a sweet addition to a story about a 30ish woman discovering what life should really be about.
If you are in the mood for a Christmas rom-com, look no further. This book will give you all the Christmas feelings. It is perfect for Sophie Kinsella fans. It has that same engaging, slightly madcap, very British vibe. Highly recommend!
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper360 for the advance ebook in exchange for my honest review.
As a fan of Lindsey Kelk I was looking forward to this book and it did not disappoint. It was very much like groundhog day, however, it was the same day with a different outcome of each day. At first, I was unsure, but it really just worked and was a great Christmas read and was so creative.
I was not sure how the author was going to pull this Groundhog Day story off, but it was a delight. I never got tired of the story, as I worried I might. Loved the characters, especially Gwen and Manny but the supporting characters were also critical to the story working. Excellent tale, highly recommended for public libraries
Gwen Baker’s life is currently a hot mess. She’s had her heart broken and trampled on by her cheating ex. Then as if that isn’t enough to throw her life in a tailspin she’s also been suspended from her job at a very prestigious law firm for attacking a client with a stapler. Her only hope is that going home for Christmas will help get her out of this rut. Unfortunately for her she ends up in a Groundhog’s Day type of Christmas forced to relive the day until she can break the spell.
I absolutely adore The Christmas Wish. It’s a cute fun dramedy that is perfect for the holiday season. With an amazing cast of characters, laugh out loud situations, and tons of Christmas cheer there’s no way you won’t love this one. This was such a fun read that I can’t recommend it enough. If you read only one holiday book this season make sure it’s this one!
Thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins for the ARC to read and review. 🤍
4 stars!
"The Christmas Wish" has an unexpected premise, one that I greatly enjoyed. I was unfamiliar with Lindsey Kelk's works, but I now want to read her entire back catalog. She is a hilarious author! I found myself laughing out loud (scaring my husband!) more times than I care to admit.
I could not put this book down. This is a funny, cozy, lighthearted, sweet, insightful, romantic story that's part "Groundhog Day," part "It's a Wonderful Life," with a dash of "Fleabag"-style humor (thrown in for good measure). It's full of Christmas cheer and merriment, plus, a little bit of magic. It is extremely well written. All of the characters, including the secondary ones, have wonderful backstories. They are all fully fleshed out, and they each get enough time in the book to shine on their own. I absolutely adored the multiple scenes featuring FMC Gwen and MMC Dev as they rediscover their lost friendship and both realize they've been in love with each other since they were kids. Swoon! This story also has a terrific message, not just for Christmastime, but one that resonates year-round. I just loved this delightful book. I can't wait to buy the book!
Thank you to NetGalley, Lindsey Kelk, Harper 360, and HarperCollins for providing me with an ARC copy of this book! All opinions are my own, and I was not compensated for my review.
I really enjoyed reading this cute holiday romance. Favorite character was definitely Manny!! He is the best! Groundhogs day style novel. Stuck in a Christmas day time loop. I loved learning about each character and their personal issues at hand. The author's writing really brings you into the family dynamic and each character is so important in this story. Very cute!! A true reminder that you never know what someone else is going through. Gwen (main character) had to overcome her personal struggles with her sister and ex boyfriend in order to move on and focus on being there for the people who love her most. It helps to have your teenage crush in the mix too!
Funny, heartbreaking, swooning ... all the feels in this one!
Thanks to HarperCollins for the copy of this ARC!
In a Groundhog Day-like scenario, Gwen keeps experiencing Christmas day over... and over... and over... and over. She's just lost her boyfriend and her job, and needs to figure out what she really wants out of life. I loved the sweet (and some sour) family and small town that she spend Christmas with, and watching Gwen readjust her thinking during her Groundhog Day experience. My only drawback was the sudden onset of the romance - it felt a little undeveloped and then like it just suddenly popped in with a bit of the book left. This is a typical British romance, and a good holiday read!
This is one of the best Christmas books I’ve read. It had me rolling laughing at the different characters and the story. It was a quick and easy read. And wasn’t over the top obnoxious Christmasy.
I wasn’t expecting to love this book as much as I did! I usually enjoy books with a unrealistic trope like Groundhog Day. This did seem similar to another Christmas themed Groundhog Day book but I think I enjoyed this one even more. I was expecting a very light fluffy Hallmark Christmas type book, but it had a lot more depth and heart. I thoroughly enjoyed Gwen. But I loved getting to know the whole family. I smiled and laughed out loud. I really enjoyed that it was more than just a rom-com. It was about family and finding yourself.
I received this book as an ARC through NetGalley. Thank you NetGalley!
Thanks to Netgalley for this ARC. I found my first Lindsey Kelk book years ago when I was in the UK and ran out of books to read that I brought from home. Her books have always been enjoyable and similar to Sophie Kinsella. This was a fun read. Gwen is going through a break up and having problems at her job. She keeps waking up everyday to relive Christmas over and over. Its a nice book of Christmas spirit and self discovery with a lot of funny moments.
This sweet book is the Christmas version of the movie, Groundhog Day. Gwen visits her family for Christmas and finds herself living Christmas Day over and over. She can’t move on to December 26th until she figures out what is keeping her there.
A perfect Christmas time book. It has family, feuds, friends, good times, and bad times. The ending was a little predictable but perfect. If you love Hallmark movies, this book is right for you!
I just ate this book up! Laughed from start to finish. Everything was described in such detail I could picture the scene exactly and feel the emotions in that moment. Many times I had wished I was there, joking around with Gwen and Manny. I wasn’t sure how I was going to like the “groundhog day” plot but I was pleasantly surprised. I need a sequel now to see what happens next! If you need a good holiday book, this is it 🎄
I cannot get enough of Christmas romances right now! This one did not disappoint and I will be recommending it!
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an eARC.

I went into this book thinking it was a holiday romance, and while it has some in it, I wouldn't say that it's more chick-lit. It has a bit of romance and Christmas cheer, and it has some magical realism which I’m always a little iffy about, but I think this story did it really well.
Gwen Baker, newly single, newly almost fired, returns home for Christmas, where the family dynamics are anything but easy. So when she wakes up and has to re-live Christmas day like groundhogs day, she’s doing everything she can to get out of this loop, including rekindling with her childhood crush Dev.
If you were a fan of In a Holidaze, I think you’ll love this one. While it didn’t have as much romance as I thought, it was super funny, relevant, and full of antics.
The Christmas Wish is out now! Thank you HarperCollins for an e-arc copy of this book!
For the first half of this book, all I could think was “I don’t want to read In A Holidaze again”. The premise of these two books is very similar, so I felt like I was reading a book I read last year. With that being said, I stuck with this one and I am SO happy I did. Watching this family find themselves and fall in love with each other was absolutely perfect. The ending of this one made me feel so good for everyone involved and now I want even more of this family at Christmas (that epilogue was just not enough!!). Overall, a perfect holiday read about the importance of family, holiday memories, and staying true to yourself. This is a must read for the Christmas season!!
This review has been added to Goodreads, Literal and Storygraph, as well as Barnes & Noble and Amazon. This will be posted to my instagram (@busywithmybooks_) and hive within the week.
Thank you for allowing me to read this story!!
This book really just took me for a ride. I loved the build up, the character development, and the writing. I would definitely read more from this author!
I loved this book so much! It was unique and the fun twists kept me guessing and not being able to put it down. The family Christmas setting was realistic and very relatable to how families truly interact at Christmas time. I would recommend this book to others! It truly puts you in the Christmas spirit.
Thirty-something London lawyer, Gwen Baker's life begins to unravel when her long-term love interest pulls a cliche move and leaves her for his secretary, taking his heated floors with him. Gwen secretly dreads the thought of a forced family Christmas in her hometown with her argumentative sister and her insufferable husband and gremlins of children along with her prodding parents and no-filter grandmother, but spending time with them may be better than the current state of her life. Will Gwen have herself a merry little Christmas or end up in the mad house? The only thing keeping her sane is her gay cousin, Manny, with whom she grew up and totally understands her life's current state. Sneaking a glimpse of her childhood neighbor and secret love interest, Dev, while she is back home wouldn't be so bad either.
Soon, Gwen finds herself in a Christmas Groundhog day with Christmas Day repeating itself over and over. In an attempt to figure out what the universe wants from her and break herself out of the seemingly endless cycle, some days ending better than others, she discovers not just the joys of Christmastime, reconnecting with her family, and falling in love (again), but also rediscovers herself and her own needs and path in life, too.
At first I was a little frustrated at the English terminology and mannerisms that I didn't understand, but then I quickly latched on to the comical, heartwarming story and the quirky characters and the rest is history! This is perhaps the funniest fiction book I've ever read. Most definitely the funniest Christmas romance. Lindsey has such a raw laugh-out-loud sense of humor that I truly enjoy. This is my first time reading her work, but it definitely won't be my last!
Thank you so much to NetGalley, Harper Collins and Lindsey for my advance reader's copy of this title in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts are my own.
Review to come on my bookstagram account @tirwinreads tomorrow (11/30) in partnership with TLC Book Tours!
I received a copy of this story from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this book! I was intrigued because I've read this stuck-in-a-holiday-time-loop before and I wanted to see how another author would handle it. I thought this was going to be a cute, light-hearted Christmas romance but there was way more depth and introspection than I anticipated.
Gwen is a hot mess at the beginning. We've all been there and can identify with that. The interpersonal family relationships are complex, contentious, and nerve-wracking - much like a real family. Gwen's Nan made me miss my grandma. I saw a lot of me and my sister in Gwen and Cerys. It's easy to fall into the drama and storyline as if the Bakers are your own family.
The Christmas time loop was beautifully done. You find yourself really cheering Gwen on so she can escape the loop. There are heartbreaking moments, hilarious moments, and really sweet ones, too. Also, you'll be smacked in the face with some serious self-reflection if you identify too much with any of these characters. I was not prepared for that but it leaves you with a lot of hope.
This is not a fluffy bite of Christmas-themed mental sorbet. This is an intricate, deeply moving and insightful peek into a loving, flawed, realistic family. It will leave you feeling like all the doors are open, like all the options are truly options.
I'm happily recommending this to all my friends!
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk is a fun, hilarious holiday read. The novel follows Gwen Baker as she returns home after finding out that her boyfriend was cheating on her and her career stalling out. Gwen hopes to rest and sort out her life, only to find she's stuck in a time loop.
Like most of Kelk's novels, there is a romance involved, but it always comes secondary to the journey of the main character. If you want romance as the focus of your read, this book probably isn't for you. The novel is more about Gwen's journey to rediscover herself and mend the parts of herself that she feels are broken. However, like all of Kelk's novels, the book is delightful and so, so funny. If you enjoy family drama and fantastic side characters, this is a must read!
This is a wonderful read for the holiday season and Gwen is so relatable with all of her self-doubt and the arguments that come up during the holiday with family. I highly recommend this book to readers of fiction and anyone who loved a good journey of self-discovery novel.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“‘That’s my wish. I wish for tomorrow.’
It wasn’t very romantic. It wasn’t dramatic or spectacular, but it was more than anyone had the right to ask for. To wake up in the morning and find the world still turning.”
I don’t like romance books. But if they were all like The Christmas Wish? Yes, please. I have been reading Lindsey Kelk since I Heart New York, all the way back in 2009, and she’s never failed to make me laugh out loud. She’s never failed to make me choke up. She’s never failed to make a reference to the Spice Girls or pop culture nuances that I thought no one else knew of, or even thought were funny. Reading her books is like living in the best part of my brain. They’re so much fun, and though the subject of this book was nothing new, it was still original. I loved it. I. Loved. It. I want to start my day over for the next ten days just to read this book afresh every single day.
Ugh. I loved it. PLEASE NEVER STOP WRITING LINDSEY KELK.
I couldn't wait to read "The Christmas Wish" after seeing so many positive reviews on Goodreads--imagine my my excitement once I realized I had been approved for an arc! This is the first book I've read in quite a while where I actually laughed out loud--I even had to smother my laughter at times so as not to wake anyone up. The "Christmas Wish" was an enjoyable Christmassy romantic comedy, and a step up from some of the overly cheesy holiday stories I have read in the past.
Gwen, a flawed but lovable protagonist, accompanies her cousin, Manny, to their childhood home for Christmas, as she has done every year since moving to London to become a high-profile lawyer. She begins the trip in low spirits, still recovering from a breakup and a major incident at work, but Manny convinces her to embrace the healing powers of Christmastime with her family, and so Gwen reluctantly agrees. Although the holiday starts off well enough, despite a rather surprising gift from her father, the day ends worse than Gwen could have thought possible. Luckily--or maybe not, in Gwen's mind--she has a chance to repeat the day and attempt to remediate her mistakes!
If you enjoy holiday-themed romantic comedies, this is definitely the book for you. Hopefully you will find some of the outlandish situations Gwen gets herself into as hilarious--and occasionally relatable--as I did. 4.5 stars rounded up!
Thanks so much to Lindsey Kelk, Harper 360, HarperCollins, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this arc!
Another great, lighthearted, holiday rom-com. This book is perfect for any romance reader during the holiday season. The writing was fun to read, characters were likeable, and the vibes were immaculate.
Lighthearted, humorous, and completely entertaining, this is the Groundhog Day of the Christmas season. Beautifully written with relatable characters that capture you from the start. This is the story of Gwen Baker, and in her journey to get over a bad breakup, she finds herself on a never ending Christmas Day time loop and a path to self discovery and reconnection with family. Definitely recommend, and perfect for this time of year! Thanks to the author, publisher, & NetGalley for the opportunity to review this eBook!
The Christmas Wish follows newly single Gwen Baker. She is an attorney who, after an outburst at work is going home for the holidays. This outburst was due in part to her boyfriend dumping her for the secretary, a man she thought she was going to marry. With her cousin and best friend Manny by her side, she thinks she can get thru the holidays. That is until she wakes up to discover its Christmas Day, again.. The one bright spot is her former crush and lovable neighbor Dev.
This one was so cute! It was so well written and funny. Typically Christmas books are too cheesy for me and i give up on them but this one had me hooked. Will def look out for more by this author!
A cozy, hot chocolate by the fireplace kind of read. Lindsey Kelk has written an absolutely perfect holiday romance full of humor, wit, and everything you're looking for this season, The Christmas Wish is a five-star read!
This book is freaking hilarious!! Romance, drama, family turmoil, hijinks. Incredibly fun and entertaining. Absolutely a Christmas Groundhog Day. Gwen isn’t a douche like Murray’s character but her life does need a refresher. Manny and Nan are my favorite characters but the book has an overall wonderful cast
I went into this book thinking it would be another holiday romance book, but I was wrong. That being said, I am glad I was. There was much more to the story that that Hallmark traditional romance story.
Gwen, a lawyer at a fancy London firm, goes back home for Christmas with her cousin Manny(can I just say I loved Manny I think we all need a Manny in our life. He was funny and more of a best friend than a cousin. He’s that one that you need to be blunt and hilarious at the same time.). Gwen’s life is more or less a train wreck. She’s on a forced leave due to an “incident” at work. Her boyfriend of several years cheated on her with his receptionist and seems to have zero remorse as he moved on and she had to move out of their home.
Christmas is chaos with her family and when it’s over we aren’t sure how things could get much worse. However, they do. She gets stuck reliving her Christmas over and over again. Gwen tries to figure out how to make it stop. Does she need to solve one of her family member’s wishes(minus that horrid brother in law) or figure out her own? What about her childhood crush, Dev, that she hasn’t seen in years that happens to be next door again for the holidays? How will he fit into all of this?
This story was festive, cute, and had all the makings of a wonderful Christmas story. I was concerned when it was a Groundhog Day type storyline, but was pleasantly surprised on how that worked for this. At times it was a little slow and I wanted to hurry it along to see what would finally pull her out of this. I also wanted more Dev. That aside it was a lovely book and I would recommend it for a Christmas read!
Thanks to NetGalley for providing me this ARC in return for my honest review.
Thank you to Harper 360 and NetGalley for the ARC!
Groundhog Day movie meets Christmas! Was a fun plot that I've not really seen before! It was a quick and lighthearted read.
Gwen has a horrible Christmas and cannot wait for it to be over. When she she goes to bed she wakes up and it is Christmas again! As she tries to break the loop she falls in love with her childhood crush, Dev. It is such a cute romcom and I love watching Gwen go through Christmas again and again and her making each day better!
I really enjoyed this book. The story was very original and well written. I loved the characters and their banter with each other. If you are looking for a fun Christmas book, this is it!
Absolutely fantastic plot! Could not put the book down once I began reading it. Cannot wait for it to be released. Will recommend it to everyone I know!
I loved this book! This is my first book by Lindsey, but it definitely will not be my last! I highlighted so many good quotes!
I loved Gwen and related to her so, so much. She is the type of person who wants to help everyone else before herself. She wants to know what she can do to help and is going through life on auto-pilot. She ends up having to relive Christmas Day over and over again and each day is different and she has to figure out what she has to do in order to get to Boxing Day. There are fights among family members, kisses, missed and messed up communication and much more.
You will cringe, laugh out loud, smile, and maybe even tear up over this story and you definitely need to add it to your Christmas TBR!
This brilliantly written British romantic comedy was just perfection! It centers around Gwen Baker who is at a huge crossroads in her life. Recently separated from her long-time boyfriend, on leave from her prestigious work at a law firm and headed home for Christmas with her family. She finds herself stuck in a time loop of repeating Christmas Day (think Groundhogs Day) where she must figure out how to get to tomorrow.
My favorite part about this story, besides the heart warming humor, is that it focuses on Gwen facing herself. The things in her life that have fallen apart, asking herself what she wants to do with her life, and watching Gwen transform from this unhappy woman into a shining star. This story really helped to remind me that living every day to our fullest and doing the things that bring us together in happiness is what it's all about.
Gwen’s life is all but falling apart. She’s lost her boyfriend, is having troubles at work and now has to spend the holidays at her childhood home with her entire family and a smile pasted on her face. If all of that wasn’t enough, her hot next door neighbor, who she’s secretly had a crush on since childhood, is back in town…
Kelk has constructed a world with relatable and likable characters who are embedded into the storyline spectacularly. You have the not-so-perfect main character, the overbearing mom, the out-of-touch father, and the seemingly perfect best friend, and next door neighbor, from her childhood. While these characters are a tale as old as time, Kelk writes them in a way that makes it seem like it’s the first time you’ve ever encountered characters of this construct. The most likable character? Gwen’s cousin, Mateo. He is the cheerleader you never knew you needed, the rock Gwen needs in the disaster that is her life, and is the absolute perfect comedic relief.
If you are expecting an effortless read, some laughs and a book that reads like a warm hug…you came to the right place. I mean, who doesn’t want a retelling of Groundhog’s Day, but with Christmas? The book draws you in with banter, between Gwen and Mateo, and doesn’t let you go until the last page. The way Kelk is able to maintain this feeling throughout the whole book is what made this book for me. The flow of conversation, the perfected banter, and the “oh my gosh” moments Gwen was constantly thrown into had me cackling from start to finish. This is a feel-good, happily ever after and is the perfect Christmas read.
Great read to get me excited for Christmas!! I was initially apprehensive of the “Groundhog Day” aspect from the description, but it was actually fine. The romance was cute & I loved how chaotic and fun the story was! A December must read for sure.
Think Groundhog Day — but Christmas For newly single Gwen, Christmas never ends. Yes, that’s the plot. But the book is warm hearted with a great message about family. The book was both laugh out loud funny and touching at the same time. My only gripe is that as a British book I had to look up a word or phrase about every page or so. Usually I don’t find British books quite so hard to understand! Now I plan to look up the author’s back stock and see what I have been missing. This book was provided to me by NetGalley and the publishers in exchange for my honest review.
So cozy, perfect Christmas escape! I loved it. Loved the uk setting (most I’ve been reading have been in the US) and enjoyed the pop culture references!
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Steam Level: 🔥🔥 (kissing and closed door sex scenes mentioned)
Trigger Warning: brief mentions of cheating (side character) and death of a loved one
Gwen Baker usually loves Christmas, but this year she just can't muster up any holiday cheer. Not only has she been put on leave from work after attacking an awful client, but she's also still recovering from a painful break-up. On top of that, spending Christmas with her family isn't very appealing. So when Gwen wakes up the day after Christmas to find that she's forced to relive the same day over again, she's unsure what to do. As Christmas repeats on an endless loop, she's determined to fulfill her family members' holiday wishes until the timeline is set right. And maybe along the way she'll also figure out how to turn her own life around as well.
I'm so glad I took a chance on this book, and I'll definitely be reading more by Lindsey Kelk in the future! This book was like a mix of Groundhog's Day and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and I enjoyed every minute of heart and humor. I really liked how Gwen became closer with her family with each repeat of Christmas and learned that everyone has issues they're struggling with despite how perfect their lives may seem. While this definitely falls into the women's fiction category, there was a bit of romance included as Gwen reconnected with her childhood crush Dev. I really loved their chemistry in the few moments they shared. As the book got near the end it did drag just a bit for me, but I was still just as eager to see how everything would be resolved. And the epilogue did a great job of wrapping things up while giving plenty of detail about how the Baker family fared after the seemingly neverending Christmas. If you like women's fiction and are looking for a fun, holiday read with a great lesson, then I'd definitely recommend checking this one out!
Thank you Netgalley and Harper Collins 360 for providing me with an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This was a 5 star read for me, I loved it and it was the perfect book to get me in the holiday spirit.
I really enjoyed the author's sense of humor and really enjoyed the characters.
Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this e-ARC .
I typically do not love the groundhog day trope but this one was very very well done!
I couldn't stop reading once I got into it and all of the characters had stories I wanted to hear more about while Gwen learned about herself and what she truly needed to be happy and fulfilled.
Highly recommend!
I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley for an honest review.
So while this took me a minute to get into, once I got
Into the book, I couldn’t stop. This book made me
Laugh and cry and have an all around good time. Having to relieve Christmas day over and over would be completely exhausting but learning what you truly need and want most in life is the best lesson. I highly recommend adding this one to your Christmas reads! Enjoy friends!
This was the first Christmas romance I've ever read and it did not disappoint! I absolutely loved the Christmas-every-day theme, especially the hijinks that take place as Gwen is still sorting things out. The book was laugh-out-loud funny on many occasions and just overall heart-warming. I appreciated the focus on Gwen's personal growth and family dynamics. Those, especially, were very well written and genuine. While the romance was more of a secondary theme, the build-up was really well done! I truly enjoyed this book and will definitely be reading others by the author!
This was a fun holiday read. It took me a bit to warm to the main character and it felt like this story had a slow start. Ultimately this book is introspective. Gwen relives Christmas Day on a loop while exploring what is important in life and what really makes her happy. The quirky family dynamics and festive holiday atmosphere make this book a light enjoyable read.
This book is everything you need to is holiday season! Get the fire place going because you def want to snuggle up with this holiday read. Humor. Feel good. A love interest. A Groundhog Day mystery. Character development and growth.
This writing was so fresh with lots of funny references. It also felt real, when reading about the family dynamic and what’s going on in everyone’s lives. Wow. Five Santa cookies approved. Loved it so much!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.* This book was PERFECTION. I feel like the Christmas/Groundhog Day trope has been done a lot, and sometimes not very well. But this was done so so well. I immediately loved all of the characters and the writing was so easy to read. I loved that this book was more focused on Gwen’s personal growth than on the romance (although that part of the story was also sweet). There were zero cringe-worthy moments, which I truly appreciated. I will absolutely be recommending this book to every reader I know and I will for sure be reading more books written by Lindsey Kelk.
Gwen Baker is A Lawyer in London who has hit a pretty big rough patch in her life. She sets off with her cousin Manny to her parents house on Christmas Eve. Gwen has been suspended from her job, dumped, and living in a very small flat holding on to hope that her ex will take her back.
After a not-so-fun Christmas Day, Gwen wakes up to realize she is reliving Christmas over again.... and again.
A Christmas Rom-Com Groundhog Day story.
This story was a quick, fun read. I normally am not the biggest fan of Groundhog Day stories considering they are pretty predicable. However, this story was so sweet and funny I enjoyed it until the very end.
Gwen was not the most likeable character, but that was the point. She just could not see her faults up until the very end.
All together a fun Christmas read.
I adored this fun holiday story but I would warn die-hard romance readers that this leans more women's fiction/chick-lit than full on romance. That being said, the romance aspect of the story was enough for me and the whole premise of a reliving Christmas over and over, à la Groundhog Day, made this a fun, lighthearted read.
The exploration of family dynamics and living your authentic life was written well and in a way that didn't drag the story down but didn't sugarcoat anything either.
This is my first read by Lindsey Kelk but it won't be my last.
*I received an ARC from NetGalley for voluntary review
A British Christmas rom-com is just what I needed apparently. It was one of the funniest books I’ve read.. with totally modern-day comedic elements that I very much appreciated. This was such a feel good holiday book that wasn’t necessarily heavy romance, but still checked all the other boxes for me.
The characters are all so fun and interesting.. the messy family dynamic was very well done. I’m also ready to plan my next trip to England. Even though there are lots of laughs, there are important life lessons too, which added to the overall depth of the story.
I would have liked a little more romance, but given the storyline it also made sense. I’ll definitely be looking into other books from this author.
I just love a holiday book. This was adorable. I’d like this one under my tree this year! Highly recommend around the holidays.
Loved the writing in this book, I laughed out loud more times than I can count. This was done very well for a trope I don't typically love (ground hog's day). I found myself unable to put this book down, I needed to know how
The characters leaped off the page, the relationships were so well crafted, and watching the developments on both a character level and between characters was beautiful.
Gwen is leaving the city for a holiday getaway in her family's small hometown. She lost her big-time lawyer job, her boyfriend cheated on her with his receptionist, and she had to move into a small apartment to nurse her feelings. Can the magic of Christmas help her find herself again?
It sounds like the beginning of every Hallmark Christmas movie but what makes this book standout is the comedy. This book was downright hilarious at times and tear-jerking emotional at others. Lindsey Kelk has a wonderful balance of honest feelings about grief and loneliness with humor that is raunchy at times and definitely not for readers younger than 18. The time loop of having to repeat Christmas day becomes a great vehicle for plot movement. It also gives Gwen a chance to reconnect with each member of her family from years of not making time for them due to her high-pressure career.
A few of my favorite quotes are:
<i>"Whatever else it might be, I do know loneliness can be very cruel. You can't pick and choose when it visits and it often overstays its welcome, sometimes it stays so long you get used to it and forget to ask it to leave. I would hate for you to fall into that trap.'"</i>
<i>"I couldn't think of anything more romantic than someone choosing you and you choosing them right back, every single day for the rest of your lives."</i>
Taking it down to 4 starts instead of 5 because I almost stopped reading the book after the first 50 pages. The pace was slow at that point and the animosity between Gwen and her sister, Cerys, was so vicious that it took away from the holiday optimism I was expecting in the beginning of this book. It is stressed so much in those few pages that I was worried it would be never-ending in the story. Thankfully, there was improvement once the time loop starts.
The Christmas Wish is a fun holiday story more about family dynamics and communication than a holiday romance. The romance doesn't really start until 3/4 of the book because of a (glaringly obvious) communication barrier where Gwen is so wrapped up in her own dismay that she doesn't pay attention to or even ask about how things are going with Dev and his love life. Also, if you are a romance reader looking for a lot of heat, this book may not be for you. There is pretty much only a couple of kissing scenes and that is about it. Everything else has more to do with character development that the romance is left out in the cold.

I cannot say that I'm a huge fan of the "Groundhog Day" story concept in general, but this book did it well and I really enjoyed it!! If time loops are your jam, this is a good one. If, like me, you don't always dig time loop tales --- give this one a try; you might be surprised by how much you enjoy it.
Basic synopsis: Gwen's life isn't going so great as she and her cousin (who is like a brother) head home for the Christmas holidays. Although she loves her family, there are some rough edges, fragile relationships, and high expectations to deal with. She just needs to make it through Christmas Day and then she can get back to sorting out her life. Right?
My thoughts:
* Relatable themes of grief, loneliness, questioning your life path, sibling rivalry, the search for "the one", and choosing between the expectations of others and what you truly want.
* While I believe this book is classified as a holiday rom-com, it seemed to me to be more of a personal growth/family drama/women's fiction tale with romance sprinkled throughout. Gwen had a lot more to sort out than just her love life.
* But, speaking of romance, Dev is Chef's Kiss --- total boyfriend goals.
* A wonderful and believable cast of characters --- quirky enough to be at home in a small English village, but real enough that the reader can probably relate or compare to someone in their own family or circle of friends.
* So many laugh-out-loud moments
* Gwen gains so much wisdom along her journey, and I felt like I was learning right along with her. The story really resonated with me and I highlighted so many passages in my Kindle.
* Since I knew going in that Gwen would be reliving the same day over and over until she learned what she was supposed to learn, I could just enjoy watching her try to get past the inevitable re-starting of Christmas Day --- what/who she chose to focus on and how she chose to go about healing that particular relationship or part of herself.
* I read this book in one day!!
Thanks to Net Galley and the Publisher for sharing an eARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was a very sweet Groundhog Day-esque Christmas romance. It was about finding out what truly matters in life trying to right the wrongs in your life.
I like how in living the same day over and over, Gwen got a glimpse at what other people’s lives were like, and how she might’ve been wrong to assume certain things. The pop culture and Taylor Swift references were icing on the cake.
Very cute! I have read quite a few holiday Groundhog Day stories but still loved this one because of the the approach to each day and solving someone’s wish!
I loved this!! I love a good British Christmas book, I don't know why but I crave them. This one is SO GOOD. I am obsessed with this book I'm thinking I'm going to have to read it again because I can't get the Characters out of my head ND I need more.

Synopsis
The past few months have been the worst of Gwen Baker's life. Not only did relationship end abruptly, she's probably about to lose her job, the same job she sacrificed the past 10 years of her life to get and keep! Needless to say, she's not in the merriest of moods. But Christmas comes regardless of whether we're ready or not, and this year Christmas keeps coming for Gwen. Yep! She's somehow gotten stuck in a time loop, destined to relive the same disastrous Christmas day over and over until she figures out how to get out of this nightmare.
Musings
This book is SO good! I cannot tell you the number of times I laughed aloud at Kelk's writing. Sharp, sarcastic British humor is my jam, and this book served it up in a supersize jar. Seriously though, this book is everything I wanted in a holiday book and more! I loved that the romance, while a key part of the book, was not the main focus. The time loop and her journey to find her way back to herself and her family was SO perfect for holiday reading. It's like every Christmas comedy you ever loved made a baby with a Hallmark movie. It's heartfelt and heartwarming while also hysterically funny. I am forever a Kelk convert and now need to read all her backlist!
Ever wish you could do your day over again and fix what’s gone wrong? Well Gwen Baker didn’t exactly do that but nevertheless she relives her Christmas Day over and over again. Join her as she goes through each day trying to end the loop and getting herself, and her family, on the right track.
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much reading a book! Lindsey Kelk’s humor is perfect and made this book one that’s hard to put down!
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk
4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Summary: Gwen Baker finds herself stuck in a Groundhog Day loop on Christmas Day with her family. Gwen is having a rough go at life as she’s on leave from her respected position with a infamous law firm and recently broke off her engagement to the man she thought was the one until he wasn’t. Gwen goes back home to spend the holidays with her parents, cousin, grandmother and sister's insufferable family (her brother-in-law is the worst). Gwen had no clue how to tell her parents about the tough spot she’s in and to make matters worse, her dreamy childhood crush who lives next door is a successful physician and seems to be engaged. Gwen has an eventful Christmas only to have to repeat it the very next day for what seems like the foreseeable future. Gwen must make sense of her life to find the way out of the loop.
My thoughts: This is a hilarious romantic comedy that is brilliantly written and is LOADED with Taylor Swift references!!! The beginning of the book is a bit slow but once the scene is set, backstory revealed and characters introduced - the book takes off! Each day of her loop is exciting, different and helps give Gwen the clarity she needs. Honestly I really enjoyed the book and the focus that Kelk places on the importance of her self fulfillment and ensuring she’s chasing her dreams and not the dreams of others. The romance portion is the ferry on top of a great plot and excellent characters! I recommend this book wholeheartedly if you are looking for a festive, funny and incredible read.
Thank you to Net Galley and Harper Collins for this advanced readers copy! This book was released this past Tuesday, so happy pub week to Lindsey Kelk and the team that brought this book to reality!
The Christmas Wish is the perfect combination of Christmas with your family meets Groundhog Day the movie. If you enjoyed Christina Lauren’s In a Holidaze, you will definitely like this book. Gwen has traveled from London to her childhood countryside village for her family’s annual Christmas celebration. Like most families, Gwen’s is not exempt from the eccentric relatives, sibling that is difficult to get along with, mother that’s overworked and father that’s just a bit out of touch. But the holiday celebration doesn’t exactly start off the way Gwen hopes for and it’s revealed that she might not have a job to go back to after Christmas. So when Gwen wakes up the next morning to relive Christmas Day all over again, she has the opportunity to reset and figure out how to get out of this maddening cycle.
This book was such a fun read! After awhile I really started to feel for poor Gwen who just can’t get herself out of this cycle. She thinks it must be related to uncovering a six-pence wish from each of her family members, so each time she has to relive Christmas Day all over again, Gwen tries to spend quality time with one of them. This book could have been a bit repetitive but I never felt that way as Gwen learns more about herself and her wants as well as she really gets to know her family. In a way, this cycle helps her to realize what and whom she loves (and doesn’t), and what is important in life. There are a few little love stories for side characters—MANNY!!!—and Gwen’s is so sweet. The romance aspect is secondary to Gwen’s story, but we get snippets of it along the way. So if you’re looking for something a bit Christmas countryside and magical with humor thrown in, I’d highly suggest The Christmas Wish. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins for this advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
this has been my favorite Christmas read so far! I am in love with our main character Gwen in this one. And I can never have too many Taylor Swift references in a book! We follow Gwen on Christmas Day as she relives the same day over and over. Usually I am not a fan of Christmas time loops. I sometimes feel like they are done quite a bit. But not with this one! I was nervous at first on where the romance was gonna go during the book but I thought it turned out really cute and nicely done.
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for the arc :)
3.67/5 🎄
Most holiday books are decidedly meh and middling at 3 stars barely, this was much more fun than that. But I must be clear - this was billed to me as a romance and it is not what I’d call a romance at all. It is a holiday novel with a little romantic element to it, but that was by far not at all what the book was centered on. This book is centered on family, not knowing what people are going through, helping others, and finding yourself. Not about romantic love so much as self love. And I really enjoyed it! (Once I figured out it was not a romance and I fixed my expectations) Gwen is an overworked law firm lawyer who has recently been dumped and is home for Christmas. A day that is decidedly terrible. She wakes up the next day… to find it is Christmas again. This book is Groundhogs Day but the Christmas version.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
The Christmas Wish was my first holiday read of the season, and it was a good one. I had seen prior to starting that this book was less romance and more family/personal growth focused, and I think being prepared for that made it more enjoyable for me. The romance was sprinkled in for most of the repeated Christmas days rather than the main purpose and it worked for me. Gwen felt like a bit of a kindred spirit to me, and I could easily put myself into her position and understand her feelings. Plus, my brain is also a pretty consistent stream of random pop culture anecdotes, especially related to Taylor Swift, as was Gwen’s, so, yeah, we could be friends. Gwen went on quite the journey over her Christmas Groundhog Days. I was invested in her attempts to figure out the key to moving on, and I liked seeing her form deeper connections with her family that she carried into the next repeat day and built on.
My only issue with time loop storylines is that they can begin to feel repetitive if they go on for too long and I was ready for Gwen to find her purpose and resolution. That said, it did feel like a fully realized conclusion by the time she got there.
All in all, this was a fun holiday read with humor and heart. It was a good way to start the season. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper 360/HarperCollins for the eARC.
This book was absolutely delightful and a very fun holiday read. I could picture the whole thing, playing out in my mind. The characterization was great, the characters are very likeable. The pop culture references where great and made the characters more relatable. The love story is with Dev is very sweet, and I cheered for them since his character was released. I love how this was not a stereotypical holiday romance and had much more depth, about family relationships, career, and listening to yourself.
Thank you so much @HarperCollins & @NetGalley for giving me this eARC in exchange for my honest and unbiased review (Release Date | 15 November 2022)
SYNOPSIS | Gwen is newly single, suspended from work & stuck in a time loop of repeating Christmas Day with her eccentric family until she figures out how to break the "spell" & return to life as she knows it.
WHAT I LIKED:
- there is something about Lindsey's writing that just sucks me in & has me chuckling
- its 80% family drama & 20% romance
- the emphasis on understanding family feuds, misunderstandings & how to resolve them
- overall a perfectly Christmassy read reminding us all to be present, enjoy the little moments & go after what we want in life
WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
- the time travel aspect of this story didn't start until 30% mark so it felt like there was a lot of set up
- a Groundhog repeating day concept can obviously get pretty repetitive
It's the most wonderful time of the year with an equally wonderful book.
Gwen gets the lovely chance to relive Christmas over and over again with her family. Joy to the world. Her only happiness during this loop of the happiest time of the year comes from her childhood friend, Dev.
I really enjoyed this. Gwen's family is a little dysfunctional to say the least, and it was realistic to read it. I lived for the drama and the relatability. The Groundhog's Day approach, while used a lot, is entirely new to me. I don't even think I've seen the movie; therefore, I was fascinated.
Some of the dialogue sounded a little off, like the flow at times, but everything else flowed well. There wasn't as much romance as I liked. The story was overall really enjoyable. This book definitely had some interesting British comedy and a lot of drama, OH-no-this-character-did-not-just-say-that moments along with I-need-popcorn moments, funny banter, and heartwarming scenes.
Lindsey's writing comes off fresh and relatable and hella unique. I will definitely read more by her!
Really great Christmas read!
Groundhog day, but make it Christmas! Gwen is living Christmas Day over and over again due to someone’s wish on a sixpence. Making it her goal to not only make it to Boxing Day, but also make her family’s wishes come true she continues to relive Christmas Day on a continuous loop. I adored this holiday romance. The family drama and complicated issues that arise make it a beautiful down to earth book. You have the ability to relate to the characters and emphasize. I do love when a book uses current references, but not an overwhelming amount to seem “cool.” I was constantly laughing, sighing, and squealing. Yes, I squealed. No over exaggeration. Though it was a holiday romance, romance was more of a subplot with the main focus on family and how every person has their own issues they are dealing with, even if it is not public knowledge. While certain aspects may not be realistic, a good majority was, and you could tell Gwen was trying to make the best out of a rocky situation. This was such a delightful read and perfect for the holiday season. I can’t wait to get my hands on a physical copy!
I've figured out if I'm reading a romcom that I want the spicy level to be minimal. More comedy and please for the love of girls' night, I don't want it to take itself seriously. Lindsey Kelk manages this perfectly!
I have to admit now, since it was a multi-reference thing in this book, that I have never actually watched Groundhog Day. But I did watch the 90s TV movie "Christmas Every Day" so I'm well aware of the concept. Yes, this was not a "new" storyline; it has been done many times before. With that being said, I laughed actually OUT LOUD so many times while reading this. It was my bathroom read-a-page-in-the-stall book for a while and I'm sure I have coworkers that look at me funny now. Some of the ways her day restarted absolutely KILLED me. hehe IYKYK
I absolutely loved how this wasn't just a "find love" romcom. This was a broken woman finding herself while reconnecting with her family and maybe finding a little love along the way. Unlike the Hallmark Christmas movies, it didn't feel "too" perfect. The Bakers felt like a real family with real problems and real neighbors. Also be prepared for 90s/00s references sprinkled everywhere! Gwen is about my age and made the same type of ones I make regularly and I loved all of them.
If you like any romcoms I highly suggest picking this one up!
This was a super funny, cheesy, very British holiday rom com. It reminded me a lot of "In a Holidaze" by Christina Lauren, especially with the Groundhog Day-esque Christmas time loop. It's absolutely stuffed to the brim with yuletide cheer, a charming cast of characters, and all the warm and fuzzy feelings you expect from a holiday romance. This is a very low-steam book that had me giggling the entire time I was reading. Thanks a bunch to Netgalley for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review. Highly recommend adding this to your holiday season TBR!
The author described this as the Christmas Groundhog Day book in her author's note and I think that's pretty much the best way to sum up the plot's foundations. The main character is going through a bit of a slump in her life - she's recently been dumped, put on leave at her high-profile job, and can't come clean about it to anyone. As if that wasn't enough, after experiencing a very depressing Christmas Day she wakes up on Boxing Day to find... it's Christmas again. After a series of trial and error, she figures if she helps everyone in her family fulfill their Chrsitmas wish, she can escape the time loop and get on with life. It also gave me a little bit of "It's a Wonderful Life" vibes with the family drama and personal realizations for the main character AND it was also a very sweet romance novel.
As far as Christmas novels goes, this book had everything I was looking for - setting, plot, pace, family, romance. Set in a soft, warm Christmas day (with snow!) in the English countryside, featuring a big family gathering with gifts, feasts, neighborhood parties, and romantic potential. There's no better time or place to air everyone's dirty laundry, am I right? But really, I loved the plot and the pacing was just what I needed to get me out of a reading slump, I finished this book in a day! I also found the romance soft and very lovable (not steamier than a hottub kiss) - basically, perfect for a holiday romance - nothing too demanding and quite entertaining, with a feel-good, wholesome vibe.
A new favorite Christmas book for me, this one will definitely be on my re-read list every year. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I was so absorbed in the first several chapters filled with humor, relatable family dynamics, and all around chaos, that I forgot this was a Christmas version of "Groundhog Day." So as Gwen wakes up on that first repeat day ... I was right there with her. Day after day she plods along, reliving the calendar day but every interaction is informed with previous days information. Gwen works through her different relationships, trying to find the key to finally getting to December 26th, and I was there for it all. It was fun to see how each day was the same and different, but towards the end, I too felt her desperation to figure this out and move forward. Plot and character development was great, leading up to a simple wish that I won't dare spoil for you now. Highly recommend!
A cozy Christmas book that will have you feeling all warm and fuzzy! A fantastic story with likeable characters who make the book so much fun to read. Five stars!
A laugh-out-loud Christmas novel with a lot of heart that's sure to warm even the coldest ones!
I loved On a Night Like This by Lindsey Kelk so requesting this was pretty much automatic on my part. This proved to be another one of hers that had me cackling with laughter.
Gwen is feeling stuck at her work and life while everone around her just have their lives all figured and sorted out. Heck, even her lovelife's a mess. Add being stuck on Christmas re-living the same day over and over, what do you get? This Groundhound Day-esque escape where hilarity is bound to ensue.
Although I found this slapsticky at some parts, it still made me snort with laughter at others with Kelk's signature wit and self-deprecating humor. I loved how this book showed how most people would look fine and even happy on the surface but were dealing with each's own issues just beneath it. This is more about Gwen's journey to knowing what makes her truly happy, with the romance just being a side story. I found her experience putting in hours as a lawyer eerily and scarily similar with mine and hit kind of close to home.
A perfect holiday read so pick this one up once it's out on November 15, 2022.
Thank you to HarperCollins, NetGalley and the author for providing me my early copy. All opinions are honest and my own.
Gwen Baker has to get rid of the Christmas pudding. Like, she has to. So she grabs it off the table, still on fire from the brandy, and runs with it to the end of the backyard. She chucks it over the fence, to make sure no one can find the sixpence hidden inside, to make sure no one can make the wish that has her trapped in a Christmas nightmare. But the pudding ends up hitting next-door neighbor (and teenage Gwen’s crush) Dev Jones, now a grown man and successful doctor with maybe a bump on the head from the flying pudding.
Gwen tries to explain to her family and to Dev why she had suddenly lost her mind and raced around with a pudding, but how can you explain that she is living Christmas day over and over, and all she can figure is that someone made their Christmas wish, and it caused her to get stuck in a time loop? Who would believe that?
Gwen doesn’t want to believe it, but no matter what happens at Christmas, she can’t deny how many times she ends up waking up in her childhood bedroom, with her dad waking her up to tell her Santa has been and there will be bacon butties if she gets downstairs before he eats them all.
She comes up with the idea that someone had made a wish that first Christmas on the sixpence hidden in the pudding, so to undo the wish (when chucking the pudding into the neighbor didn’t work) is to find out what everyone potentially wished for and try to make their wishes come true. When the first pudding had been served, she and her cousin Manny weren’t at the table, so it wasn’t either of them. Her sister’s kids and husband weren’t at the table either. So that left her parents, her Nan, and her sister Cerys.
Originally, Gwen had planned to come home for Christmas to feel sorry for herself and eat and drink too much. Her boyfriend of four years had left her for his receptionist. Then she had a meltdown at the law firm where she worked, getting sent home for a couple of weeks and putting her partnership track on hold. And she did that for her first Christmas, until everything fell apart. So then she starts spending her Christmases trying to make everyone’s wishes come true. But as she does that, she starts to remember what makes her happy too.
When Gwen finally figures out how to get out of her Christmas nightmare, will she be able to find her own Christmas wish too?
Master rom com writer Lindsey Kelk has crafted a lovely holiday romance that is filled with delightful surprises, alcohol, family, teenage crushes, bad choices, Christmas puddings, roasted and mashed potatoes, and chocolate. It has everything that makes a family get-together beautiful and cringe-inducing, with all the hope and heartache that holidays bring.
I loved The Christmas Wish. I thought it was clever how each Christmas that Gwen experiences brings another layer of holiday insanity, from fighting with family to embarrassing yourself in front of the neighbors to burning the appetizers. Each Christmas is different, and each is important to teach Gwen what she needs to learn, and each is filled with wonder, laughter, mistakes, and lessons. I couldn’t wait to see what each day would bring, and to try to guess at what would finally break Gwen out of her eternal Christmases. I am a fan of Lindsey Kelk, and this one did not disappoint. In fact, this one may be my favorite so far. If you are looking for a holiday gift for the rom com lover in your life (or, even better, for yourself), then this may be just the book you’ve been wishing for.
Egalleys for The Christmas Wish were provided by Harper 360 through NetGalley, with many thanks.
Y’all, if you’re making your Christmas tbrs, go ahead and slap this one on it because you need this book in your life!!!
Let me just preface this by saying, I will read anything Lindsey Kelk writes. Her books are always excellent. But a Christmas book?!? Well sign me up!! I have a small stack of Christmas books that I reread every year and this book will definitely be added to it. I already want to read it again!
It’s cute and fun AND HILARIOUS (I read it in public and got so many funny looks for my cackling) and just so, so lovely. It’s exactly what I want a Christmas book to be! Lots of magic and lessons and family “fun”
And because I knew I loved this book at 8%, I also ordered the UK collecter’s edition as a birthday present to myself (NO REGRETS). I am so in love with the gorgeous snowflake hardcover and lovely end pages. It's the first collector’s edition book I’ve ever owned so I’m happy to have it on my shelves!
Anyway. I cannot rave about this book enough! If you’re looking for a wonderful romcom this Christmas, please pick this one up!! The characters are so fun! The romance is lovely!! And I cannot even stress how much you will laugh. But it’s also full of Christmas magic and is perfect for the season!
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins 360 for allowing me to read this in exchange for an honest review! What a joy this was!!! Can't wait for Kelk's next book!
Charming and funny holiday read! Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read this! It was a very light and cute book! It was a thoughtful re-imaginging of Groundhog day with a Christmas twist. I love the main character Gwen's sense of humor. The side characters, especially Manny were great! I enjoyed the message of the book, to take risks, go after what you want, ask for help when you need it, ask others if they need help, and to put happiness first. It was very funny and a great way to start the holiday season! I highly recommend and look forward to reading more by this author!
This is the British Christmas version of Groundhog Day. I somehow didn’t realize that going into it and honestly probably would not have chosen this book because the reliving part of the concept annoys me YET I quickly finished this book, laughing the whole way through. Truly, this book is very funny. Gwen is a 30-something lawyer living in London, headed home to the country for the holidays. She’s less than thrilled about it because her boyfriend broke up with her and there was a snafu at work. Oh and she is mortal enemies with her sister. There is some romance with the all grown up boy next door, but the story is really about Gwen and her family, all working through their issues. The family members are all relatable and likable (for the most part!), so I was happy everyone gets a Merry Christmas in the end.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.
Family is rarely easy. The holidays tend to bring this fact more to light. Lindsey Kelk manages to take all the joy, love and laughter found in a family gathering and wraps it up in a Christmas package of a book. Gwen recently broke up with her boyfriend of 4 years and is on hiatus after a terrible experience at her job and is now traveling home with her cousin Manny for the holidays. She is both looking forward to and dreading this....something many of us can relate to. After experiencing one of the most difficult Christmas days ever, Gwen wakes up the next day to find out that it's Christmas again.
This Groundhog Day style book follows Gwen through the next 10 days as she experiences Christmas over and over and over again. I LOVED this book. I laughed out loud so many times. Gwen and Manny are absolutely lovable as is Dev, their next door neighbor. Her family is a beautiful mess and I enjoyed getting to know each and every one of them through Gwen's eyes as she works through getting to know them and herself better. Dev and Gwen are so dang cute. I loved all their adventures. The book is just simply heartwarming and funny and made me look forward to my own messy, lovable family Christmas all that much more. If you are looking for a holiday rom-com filled with family experiences and self-discovery, I highly recommend this one. Kelk will make you laugh and smile as you turn the pages and struggle to put this book down. 5 Christmas Stars!
Having read a similar book at the end of last year and just not enjoying it, I wasn't sure how I would feel about this one. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I ended up enjoying this book. It was laugh out loud funny. Snuggle up under your favorite fuzzy blanket, listening to A Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack, sipping some hot chocolate next to a fireplace kind of read, I did none of those things, sadly, but if I could have, I would have!
Gwen is an overworked lawyer who ends up in a Christmas time warp, think Ground Hog Day meets a Netflix holiday movie. It had more personal growth than any Hallmark movie could even imagine. Learning to truly appreciate her family, to see their personal struggles and faults, and also enjoys a good Taylor jam session. My kind of gal.
I saw so much of my lawyer bestie and my self in this character, I was constantly stopped to share tidbits about Gwen with her, We would get a good laugh and I would go back to Gwen and Manny and Nan, who is by far my favorite.
I have nothing bad to say about this book, or this author and I am going to go purchase this book from my local store ASAP.
I love Lindsey Kelk books and this was no exception. This was like “Groundhog Day” with Christmas Day on repeat. The main character was trying to figure out her life and determine why she was caught in a loop. This was such a cute book with an engaging cast of characters. I would definitely recommend this and her other books. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.
Gwen is hoping that a family Christmas countryside, will salve the sting of her career hanging by a thread and her heart being trampled on because everyone else has their life sorted: even Dev, her boy-next-door crush, with a fiancée. She can’t help wishing her future was clearer.
Then Gwen wakes up to discover it’s Christmas day all over again. Like Groundhog Day but with eggnog. And family arguments. On repeat.
Stories like these will be read by the fire with a hot chocolate in your hand. I really liked the countryside Christmas theme. The characters were complex and at times very hard to like; especially Gwen's sister.
I'm not a fan of time loops, but this one was definitely entertaining. With a most trusted & lovable cousin by her side, Gwen was ready to take on the world. I loved the subtle, slow burn between her & Dev. Full of family drama & time loops, this was refreshing & fun to read.
Thank you netgalley and publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Oh how I ADORED this book!
To start off I’m gonna keyboard smash my thoughts about this book bc ADOXMEOSNWOSKSIS IT WAS SO CUTE??? I laughed like a hyena but also giggled like a school girl. I shed (a few) tears. And swooned with the subtle romance playing in the back.
It’s a super quick read (or at least it felt like it to me) and It gave me all the holiday comfort I enjoy from Christmas movies/books. And a book centered around a family is always a plus for me.
Definitely a a great Christmas read!
For Gwen Baker it seems everything that could go wrong has, now she must go home for Christmas and face her family. Everyone knows her boyfriend cheated and broke up with her and that she had to find a smaller apartment, but they don’t know she’s also been having problems at work. She is doomed to relive Christmas until she ultimately finds out that everyone in her family is dealing with some sort of issue in their lives, but not being open with each other. She then must decide how to proceed with her future and how to open up to those she’s closest to about what is going on with her work life. A year later and it appears everyone has made changes and is a bit happier. A great story that shows how family isn’t always honest and opening up can just be the key to helping you move on with your life.
Christmas Groundhog Day romcom. I've read three magical Christmas romcoms now, and I think this is the best of the bunch. Charming and fluffy, it's essentially a Hallmark movie that allows cursing and blue jokes. It's light on the romance, but it's cute. Not a bad choice to spend a snowy afternoon with.
I apparently love a time loop story! The predictability of it makes me so happy?! And one that happens in Christmas? Because Christmas can already be stressful? But the magic of a time loop is so fun, even though it’s predictable it’s so good every time. I loved this book so much.
Gwen is stuck. She’s unhappy with her job, unsure if she should go back after the holidays. Her long term boyfriend was cheating on her. And now she has to go home and pretend like everything is all right.
Every loop was so good. She went through trying to grant everyone’s wishes, because that HAS to be the solution. She learns so much about every person in her family that she never would have otherwise. And even though they don’t remember she does and she has a greater respect for all of them. Of course, the way to solve the time loop is to really focus on herself and she is able to do that after helping everyone else. Seeing her find her happy again was so good! It’s rough to watch her struggle through a time loop when everything keeps going wrong.
I loved all of her family members. Her dad’s nickname for her was chicken, and I for whatever reason love. Her cousin Manny is my absolute favorite. Whenever she confided in him about the time loop he didn’t even think twice, he believed her no problem. And we all need a Manny in our lives.
And Dev. He was just in the background the whole time, her childhood crush, the friend who she lost touch with years ago. But now he’s back and better than ever! Their small love story, which was of course one was the more important parts of Gwen’s story, was so sweet!
Thank you so much to Netgalley, Harper360, and Harper Collins for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper Collins 360 for the advanced copy of The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk.
This was a lighthearted, fun, cozy Christmas book! I’d best describe it as a mash up of Groundhog Day and Bridget Jone’s Diary, all taking place on Christmas Day. There is family drama, self discovery, humor, heartache, and a little romance.
I enjoyed the witty banter, the main and secondary characters, and the dash of romance. I actually found myself laughing out loud a couple of times. And for a holiday read to take place almost entirely on Christmas Day?! Perfect!
I’m not sure if I would have made the same assumption as the main character Gwen as to WHY she was in a continuous Christmas day situation. So the plot felt a little muddled to me part way through. But it actually all came together and the book left me feeling all the sweet Christmas charm!
My only trouble with this book - and I feel like this is a “me-problem” not a book problem - were all the British references to products, people, stores, foods… so many things were lost on me. Which surprised me because this has never been so apparent in other books taking place in the UK.
If you’re in the mood for a cozy and festive Christmas read that is a bit silly and a bit sweet, this really was a fun read!
If you’re looking for a light hearted, holiday meets groundhog day read, check out The Christmas Wish! This book is full of witty banter, family drama and a little bit of romance. Happy reading!
3.5 stars (rounded up to 4 on GoodReads)
Thank you Harper360 and netgalley for the eARC!
OMG this book is so cute! I am totally in the holiday spirit now after reading this. The Christmas Wish is so full of charm and holiday magic!
Gwen Baker is heading home for the holidays after an ugly breakup and trouble at work. To her surprise, Gwen winds up in a time loop, repeatedly waking up on Christmas day over and over again.
I highly recommend adding this book to your holiday TBR if you haven't already!
Thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins for this e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. The Christmas Wish will be available on November 15th!
Lindsey Kelk is a British "chicklit" OG and this book was no different. Very warm and fuzzy, I truly enjoyed the Groundhug day spin. Gwen 's story however was not just a romcom but a really nicely told family drama too. While never getting too heavy or preachy, the writing still managed to be heartfelt and deep where it needed to be. Gwen's family was a hoot especially Manny and Myfanwy. Even the kids were not annoying "book kids" :).
Dev as a romantic interest was not bad, but this was truly the Gwen show. And I enjoyed it a lot.
A huge thanks to Harper Collins and NetGalley for the ARC.
Gwen isn’t having the best of luck lately and she just can’t wait to get home for the holidays to hear everyone's opinions. Her heart is crushed and her job is in shambles. She loves her family, for the most part, but the constant squabbling may be the last straw.
Dev is back in town, Gwen’s childhood love that got away, but Dev is already sworn to another. Grownup Dev is a doctor, a successful man on track to settle down for good. He is also Gwen’s bright spot in all the chaos, still funny and childlike in the best ways possible.
If one Christmas day wasn’t chaotic enough, how would multiple be? When Gwen wakes up and it’s Christmas morning yet again, she isn’t sure what to think. Perhaps it’s a sign, her life is a mess so maybe this is her chance to mend her broken heart and get back on track.
This book is majority family-drama-comedy based with a dash of romance thrown in. There are some fantastic comedic moments such as yeeting the Christmas pudding into the sun and how atrocious certain family members can be (looking at you Oliver). Also, Manny in general is amazing and adds so much to this novel. Overall a great read, not what I expected, so I was pleasantly surprised!
A cute holiday family story with some romance. Imagine the movie Groundhog Day, but the character keeps reliving Christmas over and over.
Gwen, along with her cousin Manny, head home for Christmas. She is just hoping to survive it without having to talk about her life. Her life is a bit of a hot mess - her boyfriend cheated with his receptionist and decided it's love and kicked Gwen out of their home; she's on a leave from her job after "attacking" a handsy, inappropriate client; and she and her sister always end up fighting.
When Christmas dinner takes a turn, Gwen finds herself continuing to wake up on Christmas morning and relive the day again and again. She thinks if she can grant the wish of every family member, she can end the loop.
This was a cute holiday read with a little romance but also a lot of growth, self-love and discovery.
Each time Gwen lives Christmas day, she learns more about herself and her family and seems to work out issues a little more each time.
Romance is more of a side plot to self-love, but that storyline with her neighbor/childhood friend Dev was adorable.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper 360 for my ARC copy in exchange for my honest review!
I was not expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did! While Gwen was the star of the show and I enjoyed learning everything about her, her cousin Manny was my absolute favorite character. I loved seeing the two interact, giving me all the family feels. I laughed out loud so many times.
Despite how dysfunctional they were, I really felt like I was there spending my Christmas with them. I came to love them as if they were my own family and I loved seeing each of them grow as strong, complex characters. I loved the banter, the Christmas gift Gwen’s dad gifted her (iykyk), and the cozy family feel.
The only thing that really felt off to me was the romance or lack of it. I didn’t feel a spark between Gwen and Dev, and I felt more time was spent on saying Gwen had feelings for him rather than showing it and giving meaning to it. The romance could have been completely cut from the book and I would have enjoyed it all the same.
I really enjoyed seeing Gwen work her way through living the same day over and over again and her personal growth throughout the book. Even the growth of her sister was phenomenal. I also appreciate the LGBT+ rep, mentions of sexism, and how the author truly embraces the theme of self discovers and reconnecting with family.
❄️ Christmas themed
❄️ Dysfunctional family
❄️ Time loop
❄️ Childhood friends to strangers to lovers
*Thank you to @netgalley and @harpercollins for the digit arc in exchange for an honest review!
A cozy and charming holiday read about a woman stuck in a time loop, reliving Christmas day over and over again. Gwen is not having a great holiday season so far - her longtime boyfriend broke up with her and left her for someone else; her law office demands ridiculous hours and is a toxic "boys' club", etc. Gwen goes to spend Christmas with her family - her parents, beloved Nan, cousin Manny, sister Cerys and her annoying husband, Oliver, and their two kids.
After a disastrous Christmas full of drama, arguments, and literal fireworks, Gwen is dismayed to wake up the next day only to have it somehow be December 25th again. As she tries to break the time loop, she finds herself falling in love with her childhood crush and next door neighbor, Dev, all over again.
This was really sweet and full of British humor. There is nothing necessarily new about the plot but Gwen is a likable lead and it was easy to root for her to find her version of happiness. Recommended to fans of holiday-themed romance and Groundhog Day plots. 3.5 stars.
Thank you to Harper 360 and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy.
This book was so good, I finished it in one sitting. I was excited to snag an ARC from NetGalley. It was a festive read that dives into the MC's varying relationships with her family back in her hometown of Baslow on Christmas. I love the banter and one liners that had me laughing out loud on several occasions. It delved into the reality of how Christmas can really be and how one can hide what we truly want for the holidays, and more importantly, our family.
There is some romance when Gwen runs into her old neighbor and childhood crush Dev on multiple, hilarious occasions. The storyline was so good that the book wasn't weighing on a romance, but it was a pleasant surprise. I also loved how it showed that by being honest and willing to have hard conversations with each of her family members, Gwen was able to turn a holiday and the trajectory of the family dynamic into a more positive direction.
Was a good book to start the holiday season and will definitely be reading more from this author! 5/5 stars!
🎄To be honest, I’m usually a bit skeptical about seasonal reads but I loved this little Christmas rom-com! Even though I wouldnt really categorize it as such.
🎄The only “negative” which isn’t even truly a negative, is that this was much less a romance and more of just a family drama + re-discovering of oneself with a little bit of love mixed in. I personally didn’t mind at all. I loved the crazy family dynamics much more than anything else!
🎄 The secondary characters were top notch. Each family member brought something unique to the story, and to the origin and development of the FMC.
Lindsey Kelk’s latest romantic comedy, The Christmas Wish, is as joy-filled as a snowy holiday spent with family and friends, dancing around the Christmas tree with hot toddies in hand. Delightful in every way, this Holiday-spirited tome is just what one needs to get oneself in the holiday spirit. Lots of twists and turns will keep the reader interested until the very end—and down-to-earth and lovable characters are an added bonus. Gwen and Manny are the fictional duo we all need in right now. With the stress of the holidays upon us, this book is just what is needed for a little holiday R and R.
I got this book as a NetGalley advanced copy. It started out a little slow for me, and then when I realized it was a Ground Hog Day, I thought "oh no!" (I just finished a thriller that used this trope.). But Lindsey Kelk is so damn funny and parts of this book had me laughing out loud. There are so many British references that I'm dying for some Quality Street. Her heroine falls down the stairs and splits her dress and slips in sheep shit but is more relatable and not as pathetic as Bridget Jones.
Gwen is heading home to have Christmas with her family after a recent breakup and an incident at her office that she hasn’t told her family about yet. The only problem is, thanks to someone’s wish on the sixpence, every time she wakes up, it’s Christmas Day all over again and she has to go through telling them everything again, as well as lots of other family drama until she figures out what will break the Groundhog Day type time loop. It does help her to see herself and her family in a new way though. The only bright spot is the cute neighbor that she had a crush on since she was a teenager is now back home for the holidays as well and is hot and hopefully single, but she can never get past their re introducing themselves because then the day starts all over again.
This is fun and funny and yet it deals with some real issues and complicated family drama very well. Gwen also really grew as a character and I adored the pop culture references!
This is a story about learning to see yourself and be seen by others as well as taking chances all while giving some great holiday feel good vibes. Slip on some fuzzy socks and grab a cup of cocoa and enjoy this one.
Thanks to Harper Collins and NetGalley for this eArc in exchange for my review.
Fresh from a breakup and problems at work, Gwen and her cousin head home for Christmas. Gwen doesn't want to disappoint her father by letting him know she is unhappy (and in trouble) at work. Her sister and her do not really have a relationship anymore, her sister's husband is a horror, her cousin is a party boy, her grandmother is outspoken and her mom just wants everyone to be happy.
The problem is Gwen only sees her family superficially until she ends up stuck reliving Christmas day. As she tries to figure out how to break the loop, she takes a deeper look at her family and realizes they each need her help and she reconnects with Dev - her childhood crush and next door neighbor.
Can she help them even if she is the only one that can remember the day before?
I am not a big fan of stories that involve time loops, so I was a bit hesitant, but Emily Henry vouched for this book, and she didn't lie; The Christmas Wish was a fantastic holiday read.
The Christmas Wish features Gwen, who is headed home for Christmas while feeling lost and a bit of mess. Her boyfriend left her for his receptionist, the job - in which she Is miserable - has placed her on leave, and she's dreading spending the holidays with her family while pretending everything is alright.
After a disastrous Christmas night, she wakes up to find that it's Christmas Day again, and again, and again. She does what one does in these types of situations - suspends disbelief - and determines that the only way out of this time loops is to fix some sort of wrong.
Gwen decides to start with each member of her family and soon finds out that despite all appearances, they too have their own reasons to be unhappy. After spending one-on-one time with each of them, she starts to realize that maintaining relationships with family members requires give and take.
Along her quest to get past Christmas Day she keeps encountering her handsome neighbor, Dev. Gwen had a massive crush on Dev when they were childhood friends, but they drifted apart as adults. She always believed her crush was one-sided, a case of unrequited love, until she finds out it was definitely not. Suddenly, Gwen is more determined than ever to get back to the present.
The romance aspect was admittedly on the lighter side and the premise was both ridiculous and something that has been done countless times before, but it worked perfectly within this story, and I loved the growth all of the characters experienced throughout The Christmas Wish. Overall, this was perfect read to officially start the holiday season.
This book is hysterical!! What a fun way to relive Christmas to find out what wish needs to be made!! In this delightful twist on Groundhog Day, this book will have you laughing and waiting for the next hilarious event.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you NetGalley, Lindsey Kelly and HarperCollins Publisher for hearing my honest review. Looking forward to reading more with you

The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk is a Groundhog’s Day meets Christmas spectacular when the main character, Gwen, is living Christmas Day over & over after her life went from seemingly ideal to utter chaos. The main character’s rock bottom includes a cheating ex, sheep dung, a situation that’s forced her to take a leave of absence from her job & accidental fireworks ignition that sets off a house explosion. What starts as absolute horror may just turn into Gwen discovering what truly matters & life’s greatest blessing & the adventure along the way is an absolute delight of a holiday book.
This book is hilarious & made me laugh out loud. There’s situations, moments & just pure ridiculousness that capture someone going through a rocky time so perfectly that all you can do is just laugh & go along for such a trying-for-them, but enjoyable-for-you ride. It’s outrageous & entertaining with her dry humor & wit. I was hoping for a bit more on the romance sub plot, but I still enjoyed how it all came together. & I did really appreciate Gwen’s personal growth & the life lessons.
I am fascinated by the groundhogs day trope & having to relive the same day over & over. This story being on Christmas made it even more special for me. Even though Gwen& in turn, her family, are reliving the same day over & over, this book somehow doesn’t feel repetitive, which is an impressive & entertaining treat.
If anyone is looking to get into the holiday spirit, The Christmas Wish is the perfect book to start the festivities!
Massive thanks to NetGalley & Harper 360 for this arc, which J voluntarily read & reviewed! All thoughts & opinions are my own.
I thank Netgalley and HarperCollins Publishers for an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review. This book was a mix of "Groundhog's Day" and "National Lampoon Christmas Vacation". Gwen is dreading Christmas with her family after getting dumped and losing her job. She wants to make it through the holidays and move on. She didn't realize that she would be reliving Christmas over and over again. She also keeps running into her long-time friend Dev and sparks keep flying. Will setting things straight with her family help her wake up on Boxing Day instead?
This book is Groundhog Day meets hallmark movie and I loved it! I can’t imagine a better story for the holidays.
While this was not the first Christmas time loop romance I’ve read, it has been my favorite!
Gwen travels to the countryside to spend the holidays with her family in the hopes it will help her come to terms with her long-term relationship ending and being put in leave from work.
As Gwen relives Christmas Day again and again we see her work through her grief and repair the relationships she has with her family. During her time back home, Gwen reconnects with her childhood best friend-turned-crush, Dev.
Gwen and Dev’s relationship is certainly not the main focus of the book, but it doesn’t make it any less special.
I loved that we were able to watch Gwen grow and discover what truly makes her happy as she figures out how to break free from reliving the same day over and over.
A dysfunctional family that grows closer, a second-chance romance, and a Christmas setting make for a perfect holiday read!
Thank you NetGalley and Harper Collins/Harper 360 for the arc!
I received this from netgalley in exchange for a review.
I needed something to cheer me up after the days started getting shorter, and this book definitely helped.
After the worst Christmas Day ever for Gwen - dealing with her family’s reaction to her newly single life, her father accidentally giving her a vibrator, having her BIL be a complete jerk, walking in on her cousin sending dick pics, her sister causing a public spectacle about the fact that Gwen had trouble at her big law firm that her parents didn’t know about yet, Gwen wakes up the next day to find out…. It’s Christmas again??
Gwen figures that one of her family members made a wish because they had the sixpence in the Christmas pudding and she’s determined to make the wish come true in order to get out of living every day being Christmas. Along the way she learns a lot about her family members, but even more about herself and how to find love and happiness. This was a great book to start my holiday season.
This book is the Christmas version of Groundhogs Day. Gwen is stuck in the worst Christmas ever and she is trying to find her way back. From heartache, to new beaus, Gwen is able to grant wishes and get to reconnect with her family on her never ending Christmas journey.
This book was very Welsh. Coming from an American, I had to Google a lot of the foods they talked about in this book. However, I found the story very enjoyable. Gwen was able to succeed and get to know her family a little bit better before she was able to move on to Boxing Day. She was even able to start a relationship with her sister and even get a new boyfriend.
This book was four out of five stars for me.
What an adorable read! I once I got about 10-15% in, I couldn’t put it down and finished the rest in one day. I was a bit worried that the Groundhog Day concept would get a bit repetitive, but it didn’t! I loved the way that humor brought into this book. There were so many lines I found myself actually laughing out loud. I also appreciated how much depth there was in this book. Many parts of Gwen’s life I felt were relatable and I caught myself reflecting about my own life. As I got closer to finishing the book, I didn’t want it to end. The holidays are a time for family and the growth in Gwen and her family was heartwarming. I’d absolutely recommend this book to others.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper 360 for a copy of The Christmas Wish!
Five shiny bright stars for The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk. One of the best books I have read this year.
A laugh out loud, heart squeezing, Christmas Ground Hog Day gem of a book set in Baslow in Derbyshire.
Gwen Baker’s life is a bit of a mess. She’s on leave from her job and newly single thanks to her cheating boyfriend. Gwen is heading home with her cousin Manny but she’s not looking forward to it. Gwen just wants to make it through the holidays.
As a result of the wish made on the sixpence hidden in the Christmas pudding, Gwen begins to experience Christmas on repeat. The events of each day that no one remembers except Gwen begin to teach her some pretty important lessons. The situations Gwen finds herself in are at times laugh out loud hysterical. There are other moments that are very touching.
Gwen’s dysfunctional family members are a story all their own. We could probably each relate to one of these family members.
The Christmas Wish is such a warm and hilarious story. The characters were just fantastic. I especially loved Gwen’s relationship with Manny and her Grandmother was a hoot.
A fantastic read blending family drama, memories of teenage love, heartache and finding your own happiness. This story will make you believe in the magic of the season. I can’t recommend this book enough.
A special thank you to Netgalley and Harper Collins for the eARC I received in exchange for my honest opinion.
Wahhhhh! The feelings that this book gave me 🥺🥺
Love love love the family dynamic! It really brings on your own holiday memories. Christmas time is truly the best. Gwen was a fun character to follow but PLEASE provide us with a Manny background.
Pick this up for the season- seriously such a good read.
My only critique is that I think the repeat went on for a tad too long. Like maybe 2 less days would have been best.
A sparkling, sassy, fresh and fun Christmas romance! This is the first novel by Lindsey Kelk I’ve read, and it has prompted me to check out her backlist. In addition to offering a myriad of merry tropes, this Christmas-themed riff on Groundhog Day is witty, frequently even laugh out loud funny, heartwarming and downright clever. Loved the abundance of allusions to Christmas tunes and other pop culture references. Loved the relatable family scenarios. Loved this story! Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for the complimentary ARC. Opinions are my own.
This book is the perfect start to the holiday season. A classic “groundhog day” scenario with Christmas tied in. I really appreciated that the family dynamic wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine, and that while there were clearly good relationships between family members, there was also a lot of tension and stress. Honestly, it reminded me of my own family.
Gwen was the perfect MC and I loved the fact that we got insight into her relationship with each other supporting character in every chapter. Her relationship with Cerys was hard for me to read, but to see where they ended up after more than a few goes made it all worth it.
I also really enjoyed Dev as a character and that even though he wasn’t in the same time loop as Gwen, he continued seeking her out each new Christmas. I loved that he was also a safe space for her and we got to see her feelings reignite slowly over sometimes menial conversations.
My only wish for this Christmas is that I could reread The Christmas Wish for the first time again.
*Many thanks to the publisher for providing my review copy via NetGalley.*
one line review: adorable, hilarious, entertaining..
Gwen is heading home for the holidays with her cousin Manny with one goal in mind: to make it through Christmas day with none of the spotlight on her. Her long term boyfriend recently cheated on her, she is on mandatory leave from her job and she can’t be in the same room as her sister without getting in an argument. To make matters worse, when her family’s Christmas dinner ends up going up in flames, Gwen finds herself stuck in a loop reliving the same day over and over Groundhog Day style. Determined to break this hell, Gwen decides to fulfill the Christmas wish of each of her family members and with that comes a cute holiday read about self-discovery, growth and love.
LOL MOMENT!
"Punting the pudding hadn't worked.
It was still Christmas Day."
So, why 4 stars? I found the pacing to be slow. It did drag in some places. Although this is a "romance", I found it more to be about the main character Gwen finding her place in her crazy world. The topics in this book: dysfunctional families, parental pressure, love, relationships, cheating, career struggles, workplace issues for women, etc. make this a super relatable read. I would prefer to have more love interest interaction.
Definitely would recommend to anything looking for a cute, holiday read!
Thank you to Netgalley and Lindsey Kelk for this advance read.
The Christmas Wish is a super cute holiday Groundhog Day book that, I will admit, I wasn’t really feeling at the beginning of the story. By the end, I absolutely loved all the characters and the lesson Gwen had to learn before she’d be released from reliving Christmas Day over and over.
The characters are absolutely amazing, even if many of them fit the stereotypes. Through the structure of the plot, every character has their moment to shine.
Gwen believes that her Hell of repeating Christmas stems from the family tradition of wishing on the six pence that is hidden in the Christmas pudding, so each day she wakes up on repeat, she seeks to find out what a different member of her family would wish for and then try to fulfill the wish.
Each of the nine times she re-lived Christmas Day, she had a different focus so events, conversations and interactions were different. Some of my favorite moments included visiting Chatsworth House, finding the fireworks in the dark pantry, and taking an evening swim. Those were fun and resulted in some days ending earlier than others. However, I think when pinpointing the moment where Gwen’s character development begins to shift is when she talks with Michael. That is the most pivotal moment and sets the rest of the book into motion.
The story is all about taking a step back to look at the life you are living vs the life that will make you happy; the one you actually want to live.
Seeing Gwen grow through her experiences with each family member was sweet and funny and heartwarming. It was what a holiday book is all about. I laughed and groaned and just enjoyed the quick read. It is definitely a book to put on your 2022 holiday reading TBR!
Thank you NetGalley and Harper360 for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
This was surprisingly cute! I usually find the time loop trope annoying but this was actually super fun. I really liked Dev and Gwen they were super cute and I wish they spent more time together and they got to spend more time together because their misadventures were super cute and fun. I also loved Gwen's relationship with Manny and how she used her repeating Christmas to not only fix her romantic and job life but her relationship with her sister and parents. Overall this is a super fun romcom with a predictable but cute happily ever after and fun characters. It's a very cute fast Christmas read and I would recommend it's a little spicier than a typical hallmark but has strong hallmark vibes.
Very cute! Think Hallmark movie in book form! A sweet story with characters you will love! And a deeper message of finding your true happiness! Definitely a great Christmas read!!!
Okay, this maybe biased by the fact that it’s the first holiday book I read officially in season this year, but I found this to be just perfectly charming. The main character was relatable imperfect, the side characters were intentionally written and maybe the plot was a bit predictable but for a holiday read, sometimes that’s all you want. Conflicts seemed to get solved a little to easily, but it’s Christmas and I’ll allow it.
Gwen’s life has fallen apart, and spending Christmas with her family is only making it worse. Just when she thinks the worst day is finally over, she wakes up to find herself caught in a time loop and reliving Christmas over and over again. Can she figure out how to get out of December?
Lindsey Kelk is an author whose books always hit the spot with me. And this was a Christmas book! Double win! At first, I was a little nervous when I realized that I was entering into a Groundhogs day type of situation, but Kelk did not disappoint. As Gwen tries to relive each Christmas trying to figure out whose wish she needs to make come true, she has different interactions with her former neighbor and crush, Dev.
This was such a fresh take on a type of plot that gets used often. Gwen and Dev were so sweet together and I loved that each encounter brought them closer, yet Dev wasn’t able to remember. The healing that took place with Gwen and her family was touching and a big part of what Gwen needed.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harper 360 for the ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
The end of October means it's basically Christmas and this was the perfect start to the holiday season. This was a super fun, Christmas themed read that I absolutely loved. It was heartwarming and so relatable because it highlighted the true craziness of Christmas time. If like me, one of your guilty pleasures of the holiday season are Christmas hallmark movies this book is for you. You get amazing character development, super relatable and hilarious family dynamics, friends to lovers and a fun twist on the fun "Groundhog Day" loop!.
I know what some of you are going to say "that's been over done" - I would have to agree BUT this is one of the exceptions. This had such a fresh take on the groundhog day loop that I really enjoyed.
You have a newly dumped Gwen Baker who has had a terrible last few months - in not just her love life but also in her career; and is down on her luck, but there's nothing the magic of Christmas can't fix right?!? [or so her cousin Many kept trying to convince her of] Until she's stuck repeating Christmas day over and over, she comes to the conclusion that this is all because of a wish made by someone in her family - but who?!? She sets out to figure it out a day at a time until she can find a way to end the maddening loop. In her process to pinpoint who the culprit is she navigates her family chaos by setting out to grant each persons wish [to the best of her abilities]
In true Christmas journey fashion she learns to let go of things in her life that didn't bring her peace and happiness. She found herself, reconnected with pretty much everyone in her family and found the parts of herself she lost along the way from years of being miserable. She found true value in the small things and learned valuable lessons. This was really the perfect holiday read that had me in my feels in just the right ways.
I gave this a 4.5 stars! Definitely recommend.
Thank you to Harper 360 and NetGalley for this eARC in exchange for my honest review.

My Thoughts: I throughly enjoyed this book. Technically, this is a romance, however, it is more of a Family Drama with a Romance twist. I loved the premise of this story, kind of stuck in Groundhog Day, Christmas edition. This was a bit of a slow burn as we did not get to the time travel until almost 1/3 through, although the slow burn is necessary to build up the characters. The trope follows a second chance romance, which I adored. Gwen does a lot of soul searching, discovering who she is, and where she wants to go. Gwen also repairs familial relationships through the story, she really grows throughout the story. This was an entertaining and lighthearted read that I throughly enjoyed, perfect for the Holiday season. I had many laugh out loud moments during this story. The characters were well developed with depth, witty banter, chemistry, and were creatively built through the story. The cast characters were wonderful. I loved the developing second chance relationship between Gwen and Dev, it was so easy to route for them. The author’s writing style was complex, crisp, warm, funny, lighthearted, and just beautiful. The story flows well, although the pacing, at times were a little slow. Overall, this was a lighthearted, swoon-worthy story that is perfect for the Holidays. This story publishes next Tuesday and I highly recommend picking up.
This is a quick read full of quirky characters. Think Groundhog Day, but at Christmas.
Gwen is not feeling the Christmas spirit this year. Her relationship ended and she had an outburst at the law firm where she worked. She is on her way home to her Christmas loving family.
After a Christmas day with the family that ended with a fireworks display worthy of the drama in Gwen's life, she wakes up and it's Christmas day again... and again.
She tries fulfilling the Christmas wishs of her family thinking that will close the loop. Will she discover the key to stop the day from repeating?
Lindsey (great name btw) outdid herself with this one! Now I’ll have to read her entire backlog! I laughed so much, cried, and enjoyed every single minute of this book.
Gwen finds herself stuck in a “Groundhog Day” situation where she’s doomed to repeat Christmas Day. Gwen is spending the holidays with her family, and they are quite the bunch. Immediately Gwen is just tryto solve the dilemma of the repeated day in any way she can.
Gwen quickly finds out that each member of her family is struggling with something. Gwen devices since the day is never ending she’s going to reconnect with each of them, and really find out what’s going on below the surface. It becomes more than just ending her perpetual Christmas Day, and more about family.
I was a little worried this particular take on Christmas was going to be get to similar to other novels I’ve read with the “Groundhog day” concept, but this was a refreshing take on it. It’s the perfect lighthearted Christmas read that will put anyone in the Holiday Spirit.
A special thanks to Netgalley and Harpercollins for the chance to read this arc.
I am glad that I read this book. The book is filled with Christmas vibes and light humor which makes the book so much more cute and endearing. I don’t think that this book is boring and very long because the action begins exactly when all the characters and their emotions are already clear. This book discusses a lot of social issues and what I liked and it is making this book more realistic and important. And issues such as love, betrayal, relationships. All in all, this is a very sweet warm Christmas story that creates a romantic mood perfect for cold winter evenings.
4.5/5
It’s giving hallmark Christmas movie and I am here for it! This was such a fun read to start off my holiday season vibes. Loved Gwen and the whole lot. I was nervous that this loop story line would be too much for me and make me want to put this book down but that was not the case. When I says I was chuckling throughout this story I meant it! The quirky nature of the characters really came through and. I found my self thinking of my own family while reading. I am always a sucker for romance so I do wish there had been some more dev action, but overall I really did enjoy this read.
Thanks NetGalley and Harper Collins for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions on the story are my own.
Gwen is headed home for Christmas after a breakup of a long term relationship and suspension from work. Christmases are already fraught with family tensions so she is really dreading this year. After a disastrous Christmas Day, Gwen goes to sleep and wakes up to the same day a la Groundhog Day. Each year, one person gets a wish after finding a hidden coin in the Christmas pudding and Gwen decides maybe this time loop is happening because their wish didn’t come true. She can think of no better explanation. Not knowing who found the sixpence, she spends each new day focusing on one family member, trying to get to know them better and see if she can discover what their wish would have been and help it come true. In all of this, she keeps running into her childhood neighbor and crush, Dev. As she works to get out of this time loop, high-jinx ensue while she also deepens relationships with those she loves.
Delightful! A Groundhog Day plot done right. I went in expecting a romance but this is mostly a family story with a side of romance. I loved seeing her family relationships grow. There was a lot of depth and it felt realistic to me. Of course, I could have used more of Dev because he was so sweet. Not sure this story will stick with me for the long term but it definitely set itself apart from many other holiday books I’ve read.

*Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an Advanced Readers Copy in exchange for my honest review.
This story begins on Christmas Eve, when Gwen’s cousin Manny arrives to drive them to the home of her parents for the holiday. As usual, the CD player is her job along with passing him the treats he likes best, the others are hers. Manny’s had a tough year, and is looking forward to Christmas, while Gwen can’t bring herself to be excited about Christmas. This year, anyway.
Last year, Gwen had been happy, expecting to be married to her boyfriend in the then-near future, but that’s over. He dumped her for the receptionist. Gwen had also felt fulfilled in the law firm where she’d worked for years, although overworked enough to have ended up on mandatory leave, and is beginning to question if she ever wants to return there. She’s dreading having to be near her sister, who will also be there with her husband and children, as they rarely have even a civil conversation. She’s also dreading having to talk to her father about her thoughts on leaving the company and finding another job that would be more fulfilling.
When they arrive, she finds out from her mother that her Aunt Gloria called to let them know that her pregnant cousin Natalie had gone to the hospital, which means, perhaps, a Christmas baby.
She ends the day sitting with Manny by the fire after consuming enough alcohol to feel cozy with a plan for the next day - to forget about work, forget about her ex, and to avoid fights with her sister
On Christmas morning, she wakes up, with the smell of food, and text messages from friends with photos sharing the joy of their children excited about their gifts. The joy of Christmas after seeing all those faces lit up with joy was just what she needed. Another text follows later, with another photo sharing the news of the best gift, the news of the Christmas baby’s arrival at 4:47am. The presents are opened, dinner is had, and then the day comes to an end.
Only it really doesn’t, and Gwen wakes up the next day and, somehow, it is Christmas all over again, although she seems to be the only one who realizes that they had celebrated it the day before. Somewhat reminiscent of Groundhog Day, this continues to happen.
Each day, she tries her hardest to figure out how to break this “spell,” which offers some entertaining moments, funny ones, as well as moments of love. Love for her family, for a boy she had a crush on when she was young, as well as trying to create a more amicable relationship with her sister.
Overall, this was a sweetly fun, lighthearted read that offered unexpected moments of wisdom as Gwen desperately seeks a way to bring this Christmas-Day-on-repeat to an end, believing that if she can determine each of their Christmas wishes and fulfill them, it will finally end this seeming nightmare.
An entertaining read, including a dash of potential romantic connections, family feuds, and a lot of shenanigans that added to the ‘joy’ of the holiday, along with other moments that offered insights into long-term family misunderstandings, as well as resolutions.

I can not express enough love for this book!! The perfect groundhogs day trope at Christmas.
Gwen Bakers life is turned upside down when her longtime boyfriend cheats on her and dumps her, she’s forced to move into an uninhabitable home, and is on leave from her job after an unfortunate incident. She’s headed home for Christmas and ends up reliving the day over and over again. What A beautiful story about learning to find your own happiness, and helping others achieve theirs in turn. This book had so many moments that I laughed so hard I cried, and I fell in love with so many of the side characters. That epilogue was *chefs kiss* in how it wrapped the story up in a perfect Christmas bow. This fun holiday read checked all of the right boxes for me and I can see myself rereading this one every holiday season!
Thank you NetGalley and Harper360 for the chance to read this fabulous Christmas story, in exchange for my honest feedback!
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk is a Hallmark movie if Hallmark let their leads drink and curse. Gwen Baker is messy. She hasn’t always been though. She’s a lawyer at a top firm, fulfilling all the professional dreams her father pinned on her. But when she’s forced to take a leave from her job and discovers her long-term boyfriend has been cheating on her, she returns home for the holidays hoping to rest and regroup. You know where this is headed: the classic Hallmark time-loop trope. Gwen keeps waking up to relive Christmas Day over and over, with all its disappointments and arguments and awkward gifts (Gwen’s dad gifts her a vibrator thinking it’s a massager 😂). As she tries to work out how to escape this endless Christmas, she also begins to work out her goals, relationships, and next steps.
I read this while traveling to Chicago for the weekend and it was a perfect travel read. I’m a big fan of holiday movies and this read like a movie. It was fast-paced and funny. Gwen is endearing as are her family and friends. If you’re a Hallmark fan and looking for a light holiday read with similar vibes, this is for you.
The Christmas Wish by Lindsey Kelk is a wonderful holiday read. This author is quickly becoming the Christmas Queen with her holiday books. This book made me literally laugh out loud so many times. The writing was sharp and definitely a fun Christmas-time read without being "too cutesy" as so many holiday books can be. It felt like Groundhogs Day but at Christmas! Loved it!
Thank you NetGalley and Harper 360 for this ARC! This was the perfect Christmas read, it was funny, heartwarming and downright sweet. I loved everything about this book!! This was my first read by Lindsey and I will definitely be reading more in the future.
Gwen Baker isn’t living her best life. Her boyfriend of four years dumps her for his receptionist. She is on mandatory leave from her law firm after rebuffing unwanted advances from a wealthy client. Coming home to celebrate Christmas turns into a fiasco. And it goes from bad to worse as she wakes the next day to find it is Christmas again.
This Christmas story with a Groundhog’s Day theme goes from slap stick to dealing with real family issues. Gwen decides to focus on a different family member and see if she can give them their deepest wish to break the loop.. It means spending time with her parents, wise-cracking grandmother, beloved cousin Manny and her unhappy older sister. Along the way she usually gets a daily check in with next door neighbor Dev. He was her teen crush and they fell apart when he went to college,.
This is primarily (Women’s) General fiction with a romance over all arc. You know he is going to be the love interest but of the characters he is the one I felt I knew the least. I think my favorite reaching out is with her sister. It felt the most real as the older sister felt over looked in favor of Gwen. Her accomplishments weren’t as recognized, just expected. And now she is a mother with a marriage and work that is floundering. I love that Gwen can’t fix her problems but she can be a listening ear..
This is an entertaining story and a fun read for the holiday season. It is a story about connecting with family and personal growth with a side of romance. Thank you to NetGalley and Harper 360, Harper Collins for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

It was aboslutley HILARIOUS and heart warming at the same time. I laughed, cried and loved everything about the book.
The characters were perfection and the story was ugh. CHEFS KISS!
This author paints the perfect scene. And it was so easy to get lost in Gwen's world.
Thank you so so so much @netgalley and @harpercollins360 for the chance to read this brillant book! @lindseykelk thank you for this masterpiece!
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was hilarious! I loved the different days and the characters were great. Adding to my yearly holiday read list.
Lindsey Kelk does it again! This time it’s a Christmas Groundhog Day. Gwen relives Christmas Day over and over again. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, the characters were great. I love the meaning behind the book and it makes you think about your own life.
Christmas meets Groundhog’s Day. The Christmas Wish is a cute book. Gwen was having a horrible Christmas with her family. She went to bed on Christmas night and woke up to the next day being Christmas again. Her only thought as to why this happened is that someone wished on the six-pence that was in the Christmas pudding and she has to figure out who made the wish and how she can help grant their wish in hopes of finally making it to the next day.
I really liked The Christmas Wish. As i was reading this book, I kept imagining it playing like a movie and would love to watch it if it ever gets made into a movie.
This was like reading a cheesy Hallmark movie, so if you’re a sucker for holiday rom coms like I am then this book is totally for you!
Gwen is a lawyer at a successful law firm in London. She has the dream job in the big city but she can’t seem to catch a break. After her recent break up with her boyfriend and an unspoken incident at work, christmas just does not seem the same and Gwen feels utterly lost and out of control. But when she comes home for the holidays and ends up stuck in a seemingly endless Groundhog Day-esque time loop, living Christmas Day over and over again, it seems she’s going to learn a lot about her family & their private struggles as well as discover her own hesitations and desires of life.
This story had some very sweet and emotional events and relatable struggles with day to day life. Sometimes we all get stuck in the rut of routine and lose sight of what’s actually important to us and to those we love. If you want a sweet rom com to read this holiday season, be sure to check out this darling novel! I throughly enjoyed it!🎄

If you are are like me, you enjoy reading holiday books around Christmas time but maybe get a little burnt out with the Hallmark books AND movies. I felt like The Christmas Wish meets you somewhere in the middle - a little more depth than most Christmas books + still all of the holiday feels.
The Christmas Wish follows newly single Gwen as she navigates Christmas without her boyfriend or job. Stuck living Christmas on repeat (think Groundhog Day), Gwen works through many of her family relationships. What I enjoyed most about the book is (obviously) there is a romance perspective but I loved seeing Gwen grow in the book. I felt like her self growth was more of a focus then a relationship (yay for girls saving themselves instead of a man!)
However, like Groundhog's Day, this book did get a little repetitive with living the same day over and over. But - if you are looking for an enjoyable holiday book - I would pick this one up!
Thanks, Netgalley for the ARC of this book!
This was a super cute holiday romcom. The side characters are quirky and funny and the situations that our heroine finds herself in are just hilarious. You will literally find yourself, if not laughing out loud, chuckling to yourself.
The romance will keep you on your toes. The author gives you a little nibble that just keeps you wanting more.
Overall, great holiday romance! Perfect for sitting by the Christmas tree with a warm drink in hand.
I LOVED this! The writing is clever, witty, funny, and heart-felt, with an endearing self-effacing heroine and a feel-good story.
Gwen Baker just got dumped and (probably) fired when she goes home for the holidays and ends up living Christmas Day over and over again... until she can figure out how to right her course.
The romance portion doesn't happen in earnest until the last quarter of the book, but it's so cute and sweet when it does come together! The characters are well-rounded and mostly enjoyable, and the resolution is really satisfying all around. I highly recommend The Christmas Wish for an ooey-gooey, feel-good holiday read.
Thank you to Harper 360 and NetGalley for providing me with an advance reader copy to review! I loved it.
This book surprised me in all the right ways and it wasn’t until the end where I realized just how much I loved it !!
Synopsis: Gwen is heading home for the holidays with one plan in mind: to make it through Christmas day with none of the spotlight on her. Her long term boyfriend recently cheated on her, she is on mandatory leave from her job and she can’t be in the same room as her sister without getting in an argument. To make matters worse, when her family’s Christmas dinner ends up going up in flames, Gwen finds herself stuck in a time loop reliving the same day over and over. Determined to break this spell, Gwen decides to fulfill the Christmas wish of each of her family members and with that comes one fabulous holiday read about self-discovery, growth and love.
Thoughts: This was an adorable, hilarious and entertaining Christmas take on the common Groundhog’s Day trope. I will say that the romance is more of a side plot as about 75% of the story focused on Gwen finding her place in life and mending her relationships with each of her family members. I loved how with each Christmas, Gwen worked through the family drama and learned a lot about herself along the way. The days never felt repetitive and the author did a great job adding in new dysfunctional and relatable antics each day. The side romance storyline with Dev, her childhood neighbor and friend, was so swoon-worthy and one you will automatically route for. I loved how all the dialogue, jokes and references between the cast of characters felt so properly British and on brand with the holidays.
Read if you like:
-Magic realism
-Groundhogs day trope
-Dysfunctional families
-Self-reflection and great character growth
-Tons of laugh out loud moments
-UK countryside setting
In short: I loved this book.
It was the perfect Christmassy family dramedy I needed to kick off the holiday season. Laugh-out-loud funny, witty, heart-warming family dynamics - all things that make a great Christmas read.
One thing I do have to note - the romance aspect of this book is relatively minimal. I don't think the synopsis really does the focus of this book justice.
*Thank you Netgalley and Harper360 for the opportunity to read an eARC in exchange for my honest review
The Christmas Wish is a fun read that I can see myself rereading each holiday season. Told from the POV of lawyer Gwen Baker, this book is filled with snarky observations and pop culture references and made me laugh out loud several times.
Gwen is having an awful season- her boyfriend dumped her, she had to move out of their home, and she is on a leave from work after an unfortunate incident involving a stapler. She heads home for Christmas with the family and gets stuck reliving Christmas Day over and over, trying to figure out what she can change to move forward to the next day. She tries to help make her family’s wishes come true along the way and finds herself surprised by what she learns about each family member.
Gwen is hysterical as she decides to let the consequences be damned; she figures the next day will start fresh and no one will remember anything, so why not be daring and do things she normally wouldn’t? The situations she finds herself in are at times laugh out loud funny and at other times very touching. Her family members are fantastic secondary characters that are all fully fleshed out with their own hopes and motivations. The boy next door adds a touch of teenage crush and romance to the story, and their chemistry is divine. I found myself feeling very touched by the end of the story and the message in it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Harper 360 for the ARC of this holiday read in exchange for my honest opinion!
My first read from this particular author, and I absolutely loved it. The story follows a 30 something Gwen Baker going home for Christmas, and getting stuck in a time loop. It was incredibly funny, clever, heartwarming and a all around fun book to read. I read it in less than 24 hours, I just could not put it down. After finishing the book it just felt like a hug. I loved the pop culture references and as an American I loved learning a bit more about Christmas traditions across the pond. I also loved that it’s not another all white straight characters. I’ll definitely read more from this author and recommend to my friends.

This book definitely was not what I expected. But I enjoyed it from start to finish! The perfect book to start off my Christmas reads.
I felt myself relating a lot to Gwen our main character. She’s going through a breakup & is let go from her job. Now she has to endure Christmas with her family who are quite the bunch.
During this story, Gwen ends up repeating the same Christmas morning over & over. She decides to help everyone else, but herself..
To see her finally go after what he wants & needs was amazing. I rooted for her from the start! And in the end, she got what she deserved!
I loved that this book flashed to a year later so I could see where she ended up.
This book also has a handsome neighbor from when they were teens to now 😉

This is my 5th newly released Christmas romcom this year and I really enjoyed this one. I was really unsure at first because I don’t tend to enjoy time warp scenarios, but the Christmas Wish was much more than that.
What I loved:
- The Holiday Groundhog Day take! This made it really fun for me
- This is a romantic comedy, but it also reads like romantic dramedy. There’s a ton of family drama (which I personally loved and found relatable)
- I found Gwen to be so relatable, especially at the beginning of the book! The character development was so fleshed out and enjoyable.
- There were a ton of laugh out loud moments and amazing banter.
All in all, The Christmas Wish is a warm and cozy read. I really enjoyed it!
This was my first book by Lindsey Kelk, and I am definitely interested in reading more of her books. This one had me laughing out loud at certain parts, and I loved all of the characters. Gwen was likeable, and I think she was realistic. Manny, her cousin, was her perfect partner-in-crime, and it made me want a cousin like that! Dev was absolutely dreamy!
I will say that I feel like I have read other books similar to this one, so the concept was not as original to me and did drag at times. I will say that the ending gave me plenty of warm, fuzzy feelings. It was a perfect way to start the Christmas season for me!
A charming, delightful, heartfelt read that will put you in the holiday spirit. I'll admit that I wasn't thrilled about the Groundhog Day aspect of the book, but it's perfectly suited to the story! I loved the characters and their development as Gwen continues to revisit Christmas day. This one left me with a big smile on my face and Christmas cheer in my heart! LOVED it!
This is sort of reminds me of Christina Lauren’s In a Holidaze, in that our leading lady experiences Christmas Day over and over like Groundhogs Day movie. Which is ironic, as I am reading it on Groundhogs Day. I actually enjoyed this way more than I thought I would when I first started. So if you pick this up, stick with it. Gwen grows so much as a character throughout the whole book and I just absolutely love the way it ends.
Bottom Line: Read it!
**I received a copy of The Christmas Wish from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are of my own.**
I love the groundhogs day trope. Seeing how the main character tries to solve it and work out why it’s happening is alway a fave of mine, because I too get to try and rack my brain for the answers.
I genuinely laughed reading this a while back and fell in love with *all* of the characters.
This is a good book. The main character is Gwen. She is reliving Christmas Day just like the movie Groundhog Day. She tries everything under the sun to try to break the cycle. She evens goes to see her ex boyfriend who share finds out is jealous of her, he wants it to be all about him. She finds out what is important and how she wants to live and finally breaks the cycle of reliving the Christmas Day.
The perfect cozy Christmas read! ‘The Christmas Wish’ takes the ‘Groundhog Day’ concept and decks it beautifully with holiday family drama, small town escape from big city life, mutual pining, and childhood friends to lovers. The romance and the family bonding are both achingly heartwarming with just the right amount of holiday cheese and the result is fun and solidly rom-com while still staying on the grounded side of holiday special camp.
‘The Christmas Wish’ is the perfect read for getting into the holiday spirit, easing back to reality in that week between Christmas and New Years, or even just a holiday lover looking for a little Christmas in July spirit.
Lovers of Hallmark movies, holiday romance, and the movie Groundhog Day, rejoice!
This cute holiday romance centers around Gwen who is newly single and hoping for a peaceful holiday at home for some respite from her life and job. Little does she know that there is a boy-next-door romance in store for her and more Christmas magic than she ever thought possible.
Okay yeppppp this book was everything I wanted from it! One of my favorite movies is 12 Dates of Christmas and this reminds me a ton of this— not only is our protagonist Gwen managing making the most of her romantic opportunities in her Groundhog Day loop, but she’s working on her relationship with her family. I think that’s such a rewarding mix. This is giving Hallmark moving in the best way possible. I was left with a giant smile on my face and I can’t wait to read it again this season!
Super cute romantic holiday book with the right amount of spice. I would recommend this book if you need a good winter book to read.
This book totally gave me the holiday or love actually vibes (maybe because it was set in Britain?). Anyhow, it was super cute and definitely destined to be a classic rom-com book to read at Christmas! Totally adorable! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me in exchange for my honest review!

Kelk's storytelling expertise shines as she weaves a story of love, magic, and the power of wishes. What a super cute holiday romance! I love Kelk’s book and she delivers yet again with a lighthearted Groundhog’s Day love story. Perfect cozy holiday read!
I am one of those people who forget to read holiday novels at the appropriate time. I got it right this time. I adore Christmas novels and this one is so lighthearted and heartwarming, that I was just giggling and swooning all over the place.

Thank you Netgalley for a chance to read and review (a year late) this Christmas Rom-Com by Lindsey Kelk!
I have loved Lindsey Kelk and her stories, ever since I picked up ‘I Heart New York’ so many years ago. Her books are always so fun, with a lot of banter and characters who are just trying to keep it together one day at a time.
This was a great Christmas read. It was fluffy, funny, and at times romantic. It did the time loop trope very well, and I actually didn’t start to hate it. Kelk clearly knew how much of it would be enough without pushing it and she delivered.
Gwen was a great character. She really made so much progress by the end and even the tone of her POV was different and happier. Nan was also fantastic and a hilarious side character. I also liked how this didn’t end on with a “perfect happily ever after” ending. I think that made the book more relatable and made the most sense for the story itself.
If you need a good palate cleanser and are in the mood for some Christmas, I highly recommend this one!
Groundhog's Day, but make it Christmasy.
I really enjoyed this one. It was funny and sweet, but also covered some heavier topics and reinforced the age-old idea that things aren't always what they seem.
Some of the chapters ran a bit long, but overall, I really enjoyed this story!
What a fun and festive book! Definitely had strong hallmark vibe and a lot of the scenarios and borderline-slapstick humor would translate so well to the screen. The characters had depth and real-life issues, not just fabricated drama to add to the plot. The story did drag a bit after several Christmases in a row, which is nearly inevitable in a Groundhog Day plot, but overall, I really enjoyed it and look forward to exploring more of Kelk’s books.
Super cute and very enjoyable! It was the perfect holiday Rom-Com to snuggle with. It's like the movie Groundhog's Day, but on Christmas Day and with a ridiculously quirky cast of characters. Such a fun read!
This was a perfect holiday read; the writing made me giggle out loud several times, the conversations feel real instead of scripted, and the second-chance trope is one of my favorites.
for fans of Sarah Hogle!
so funny and heartwarming, has such great nostalgic Christmas vibes! The Groundhog Day trope is so much fun and makes for so many fun moments. truly the perfect Christmas read!
This was the perfect cute holiday read! I don't know about you, but my December is always filled with Christmas romance novels. Repeating Christmas day sounds like a great time, especially when you get to spend time with the boy now man next door. Gwen and Dev were a breath of fresh air. This was such a warm, funny, and entertaining story.
I love a good Christmas romance and this one was great. I really hate groundhog day but Lindsey made it bearable and not so chaotic reading the same thing everyday.
This is a fun, entertaining and humorous festive read that will appeal to many, although I will admit it took me a little time to become immersed in the feel good, escapist story. I will keep my eyes out for more books from this author because her voice is both humorous and insightful.
A fun surprise!
I didn’t expect much from this, as I generally am of the opinion that RomComs have been generally bad for a long time and are for the most part only getting worse.
This, however, was surprisingly charming, clever, and sweet without backsliding into the kind of schlocky romance or trauma porn that has become so common to the genre. For one thing, it’s actually funny. And while the Groundhog Day concept isn’t a terribly original one, it’s cleverly done here and doesn’t fall into the tropey and repetitive loop that so many novels using this concept struggle to get past.
I loved that the protagonist here has a life and relationships beyond a single romantic interest, and I loved that the romance that is there is measured and sweet rather than overwrought and needlessly over dramatized.
This is my first time reading a Lindsey Kelk book, but it won’t be my last. What a refreshing change from what populates most of this subgenre.
