Description
Pettengill’s Fortune-Teller and Dream Book is an original occult compendium from 1860, comprising of fortune-telling by astrology, the zodiac, palmistry, the meaning of certain physical features on the body (such as moles), sibylline leaf questions and answers, signs from turning traditional playing cards, determining which days are lucky versus unlucky in a given month or year, and the interpretation of dreams. The book not only tells you about these topics, but also shows you how to practice these methods yourself. The section on dreams is the longest, with an alphabetical list of topics mentioning many different types of dreams and their related meanings, ranging anywhere from being destined for eminent greatness to having a miserable life and a terrible marriage. While the original manuscript is from 1860, the text has been adapted and made relevant to the 21st century, in a way that still captures the author’s intended meaning and original style. The author, a so-called “Peletiah Pettengill,” claims to be a professor of various occult subjects, such as astrology, geometry, and spiritual philosophy. Though his name may be fake (as well as his credentials), there is no doubt that whoever did pen this book had a wide array of knowledge on these subjects, perhaps collected from some of the best sources of the time. Whether you are an avid practitioner of the occult or a suspicious skeptic, this book is sure to entertain, transporting readers to a mystical realm of the unknown, providing psychic advice for all those who seek it.
Edited by Taylor Berger-Knorr, this edition is more accessible to 21st-century readers.
