Inclusion Uncomplicated

This was a beautifully written book. I work in childcare and inclusion is very important to me. I’m looking forward to implementing the things I read in this book in my workplace.

This was a very insightful NonFiction talking all about diversity, equity and inclusion or, DEI. This is very useful for everybody in our society but specifically could greatly benefit company leaders to better ensure more and more place importance on this topic. Personally, I really enjoyed the authors voice for the audio version, she spoke directly and clearly with passion that you could feel. I would highly recommend to anyone interested in nonfiction, or discussions surrounding DEI.

While this book was definitely not something I’d normally read, due to its intended audience (seemed more suited for executives in leadership roles, and I’m only the CEO of my classroom 😅), I found it sprinkled with wonderful pieces of information about the importance of DEI in the workplace, and society. As a lifelong proponent of DEI (before I even knew the term), and as a white woman, mother, and teacher who primarily teaches non white students, this is a topic that I’m incredibly passionate about. I don’t pretend to know it all and appreciate being challenged in my thinking and learning. I was pleased to hear simple steps that employers (and employees, and people in general, like me!) can take, right now, to promote workplace inclusion as well as statistics about how workplaces that support DEI are more likely to thrive. I would definitely recommend this to anyone in a leadership role within their workplace, particularly white people, whether or not they think they need it as well as to people looking to increase their understanding of DEI and it’s importance. In terms of the audiobook quality, Dr. Nika White, the author, did a fantastic job reading. Her voice was captivating and easy to listen to.

I live in a third world country that doesn't really integrate Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in employment and other private systems, but this was an insightful read. It's interesting to be told about the dos and don'ts of DEI and how we could accomodate minorities better. If you're in a power of position, like in HR or management or government, I would recommend you read this. Likewise for people who want to be better allies. As a minority myself I'm glad that the author feels so strongly about giving us equal opportunity and fair treatment and has decided to dedicate her life to it :)

I requested this one as, for work, I work in the DEIA space and was excited to see this title as an option to also use my love of reading in my free time as something to also further my work life and to read something from an expert on DEI.

I really loved the discussion on what DEI is for all the readers that don’t yet have that background and to refresh my own understanding by hearing it from another source.

I will definitely be taking nuggets from this into my work as we try to expand DEIA efforts from being performative to actionable and real.

Also the narration of this one was phenomenal!

Inclusion Uncomplicated is a nice guide for businesses and individuals to start thinking about and implementing DEI practices into their work space and every day lives. Dr. White provides good examples of situations to look out for and how to address and reflect on them to make positive changes. She has provided us with some tools to evaluate current practices, create a plan to improve DEI practices and workable solutions to implement these changes.

I listened to the audio and enjoyed it. I believe that all companies could benefit from having their management and HR team read this book.

Appreciated the opportunity to review this audiobook by Dr. Nika White. Have and will continue to consume as much information as practicable with respect to inclusion. DEIB work, indubitably, is important for all people to actively work on.

Dr. White’s book was accessible and imparted some helpful information and perspectives. However, I feel this audiobook may have been better delivered by a different reader. I had trouble with the author’s unique pronunciation of certain terms, which frankly diminished the efficacy of the information shared. I am stepping away from the audiobook at about 60% completed. I intend to read the actual book where I can avoid the distraction of the author’s peculiar pronunciation of words.

In 2022, I made it a point to read more books by BIPOC authors, so what better way to start 2023 than reading a book about diversity, equity and inclusion.

I am part of a DEI learning community where I work, so Inclusion Uncomplicated was a wonderful way to expand the learning community beyond the monthly sessions.

Author Dr. Nika White really breaks down DEI into actionable tools and steps. She also takes DEI talks about how diversity and inclusion go beyond race and includes women, the LGBT community and the differently-abled community as well.

I honestly feel like more people need to be Brough to the DEI landscape in Nika White’s style. I think too many people are brought to a DEI session that is race focused, and that can turn them off. But if you open DEI up beyond just focusing on equity and inclusion of the different races, and realize that there are inequalities that go beyond race (but also include race) more people can approach DEI tools and take the steps to make meaningful change.

I listened to Inclusion Uncomplicated on audiobook, which was narrated by the author. I honestly want a physical copy of this book to read through and reference again and again.
