Mary Berry is the baking queen. I loved seeing how many recipes she used in this book that I have seen in episodes of Great British Bake Off. The tips at the beginning are also very helpful for novice bakers.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher for the ARC. I love Mary Berry and I love watching the baking shows that she does with a championships. I would really like to own this and use it for cooking. It was pretty clear and concise and reading the recipes and I love the pictures.
As a huge fan of British Bake Off, I was thrilled to be granted access to this book. It has beautiful pictures of the baked goods and very easy to follow recipes. Loved it!
Splendid! What a wonderful resource. Great recipes, great photos, great selection.
This is well organized, clear, concise, well-explained, and spans a variety of favorites.
I will be returning to this book to try more recipes. Very worthwhile.
My thanks to net galley and the publisher for this digital ARC. This is my honest review.
As someone who already has Mary Berry’s Baking Bible I can tell you that this newly revised edition is a must have for bakers of any experience. The information and instruction provided is invaluable. And the recipes, both old and new, are wonderfully done. I can’t wait to start baking!
Very much recommended!!!
Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this title to review.
I confess to being a Great British Bake Off fan. I was very excited to take a look at this cook book and I will give an honest an opinion as I can.
The book has an extensive amount of recipes, over 250,, there are 17 chapters, there are 5 chapters on cakes not including the one on cupcakes and the other on cheesecakes. but the book also starts with Baking Equipment, Baking terminology, Key Ingredients, Baking Tips, and Conversion Tables.
As a home baker in Canada while I appreciated the thought with the Maple Syrup Cake, although I question the use of actual maple syrup when extract would probably come through more.
There are very British recipes that you don't find in most North American cookbooks like English Muffins and Eccles Cakes. that I'm very interested in. If I had to make a comment about variations on taste and how that might effect whether someone should purchase this book or not I would warn them that a lost of these recipes do contain raisins and currants and as a baker I know of no other topic that is more polarizing where I am then of the inclusion of raisins in baking..
The pictures are beautiful and the recipes and instructions very clear. If you love cakes and don't mind raisins this book is definitely for you.
Author Mary Berry’s revised and updated, MARY BERRY’S BAKING BIBLE, is a comprehensive guide of just about anything you need to know about baking.
Before you ever get to recipes, 31 informative pages covering the introduction, techniques, and conversion tables, will testify to the knowledge Ms. Berry has amassed on the subject and science of baking.
Recipes (as seen on cover blurb) include . . .
• Cakes: Victoria Sandwich; Very Best Chocolate Fudge; Lemon Yogurt
• Cookies and Bars: Melting Moments; Orange and Chocolate Shortbread; Bakewell Slices
• Traybakes: Lemon Drizzle; Coffee and Walnut; Double Chocolate Chip and Marshmallow
• Tarts and Pastries: French Apple Tart; Chocolate Eclairs; Profiteroles
• Breads: Crunchy Orange Syrup Loaf; Quick Sourdough Loaf; White Cottage Loaf
• Puddings and Pies: Sticky Apricot Pudding; Classic Apple Pie; Crème Brûlée
• Cheesecakes: American Chocolate Ripple; Buttermilk and Honey; and Key Lime Pie
Those are only a small sampling of the 250 recipes included.
Overall, I really enjoyed getting lost in the pages of, MARY BERRY’S BAKING BIBLE.
As is my main complaint with most cookbooks, there isn’t a photo for every recipe. I really want to see the finished product. I want to be able to compare my finished recipe to the one in the book. Having said all that, the photos included are stunning color photos that had my mouth watering.
Rather you are an aspiring baker, or already accomplished in the art, MARY BERRY’S BAKING BIBLE is one to add to your collection.
I love Mary Berry! Like many Americans, my first introduction to Ms. Berry was on The Great British Bake Off. I sought out her cookbooks then, but really struggled to get through the recipes. Mary Berry's Baking Bible: Revised and Updated is great. There are tips and tricks, and simple to follow instructions. I would say that this is a great book for those who have been baking a while, but maybe want to try some more classic European cakes and desserts. Before writing my review I wanted to make at least one recipe, and my son and I chose the Chocolate Roulade. I was a tad concerned the whipped cream filling would be too much, but it was actually perfect. The cake itself was not too sweet. I think there is a bit of flexibility in the recipes, and an experienced baker can put their own touch on it. I look forward to getting a hard cover copy when it is published.
So many new cakes have been added! Just one word describes this cookbook-Yum! If you know Mary Berry then you know this is a must have and if you have never had the privilege to own one of her cookbooks-this Revised and Updated Edition is the one to have!
Mary Berry's Baking Bible: Revised and Updated : With Over 250 New and Classic Recipes is the ultimate baking recipe book. All Mary Berry's classic recipes are included and the book is very easy to follow with tips and comments from Mary. The only downside for me was the lack of photographs for every recipe. However if you want a book with recipes you can rely on this is the baking book to choose.
My expectations were high for this cookbook, and of course they were met. The presentation of this book was beautiful and all the recipes amazing of course. The images are stunning and mouthwatering. Even if you were not familiar with The Great British Baking Show, you would also be in awe. I was expecting measurements of ingredients to be only in metric, but there are also in measurements! I do think this a great indication the cookbook is friendly for all levels of bakers. Also she was not kidding that this is a baking bible! A little over 400 pages, you have so many types of bakes from classics to exotic tastes! I would definitely buy this for myself or any other baking enthusiast.
I accessed a digital review copy of this book from the publisher.
This cookbook includes all of the classic bakes one would expect from Mary Berry and from a British baking book. The instructions are laid out in an easy-to-understand manner. Many of the recipes have tips and comments from Mary. My biggest issue was that there was not a photograph for each bake. This is more important for a baking book because the end result is expected to have a certain appearance.
Second to reading, my go-to relaxation technique is baking. I haven't read the first edition of Mary Berry's Baking Bible - but I loved this revised and updated version. If a book is going to include the word 'bible' in the title it better be pretty all-encompassing, and this did not disappoint! I enjoyed the organization of this edition and so appreciated measurements for us Americans. The cookbook shares many traditional English recipes but plenty of options with universally known ingredients. Recipes seem to range from mostly approachable for beginners to advanced bakers, which I appreciate.
The only negative I would note is that each recipe is not photographed - that would be *chef's kiss*
Thank you to Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed and NetGalley for the digital advance review copy of this book.

I've long since wanted to add a Mary Berry cookbook to my collection and this opportunity to read one was a real treat. The recipes all look incredible and I found myself inspired to get back into baking by trying recipes both familiar and new. Any of my complaints about the e-book variation of this cookbook are easily remedied by acquiring the physical copy, which is my preference for cookbooks especially. I am excited for this book to be released and to add it to my wishlist.
