Description
Eighth-grade sleuth, Campbell Olson, wanted to be class president. What she got was a dead rat, a clue, and a ghost from the past.
Things aren’t the same when your best friend dies in a car accident. But when your best friend comes back as a ghost to help you solve a case, life becomes definitely better. You’ll love Temple. He’s a funny, opinionated, cool nerd who doesn’t quite have the hang of being a ghost. When I, Campbell (Bell) Olson, decided to run for eighth-grade president, I didn’t expect my opponent to be Will Tuffy, the most obnoxious boy at school, and I didn’t expect the race to start with a dead rat on my doorstep. That was the easy part. From there, things got worse and my case went from being a mystery, to being dangerous. This is my tale of the ghost, the rat, and me. Bell Olson

A mystery with a supernatural angle has got to be the greatest idea ever! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It's a clever mystery with a spitfire protagonist; fun supporting characters; an entertaining plot; and an engaging voice. I was struck many times by the humor and emotion. Best of all, this book is a wholesome--I feel it will really appeal to teachers and involved parents and happy kids who are getting tired of all the edgy, shocking stuff out there. This is a feel-good book, and the story made me laugh out loud many times. The author's voice and prose drew me in at the first line and I stayed up all night reading. Highly recommended!
As a school librarian, I am always searching for books to recommend to my students. This book is one that will come highly recommended! The author's understanding and use of daily life situations for children, combined with supernatural ideas make this book phenomenal! I am considering reading this book with my book club!
From its opening pages this book puts the reader at the heart of a mystery and does not let go. This happy result comes from the following: an imaginative story involving an unlikely friendship that works because it is rooted in the believable and pulls at the heartstrings; a writer who understands pacing, plotting, character, dialogue, and, best of all, how to construct scenes with impact! I hadn't anticipated being scared. But to my delight, I got the shivers reading this story. I'm looking forward to more from this author.
I loved this book and I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed the way the author wrote the characters. The characters are realistic, likable, engaging and funny people. They remind me of young people I actually know. I like the innovative way the author combines supernatural and scientific ideas in her book. The book is lighthearted, fun and full of humor. I am a teacher and I would strongly recommend this book to my students. Believe me, a book has to be good for me to recommend it to my students. Highly, highly recommended!!!!

Award winning author, Robyn Gioia, grew up in the multicultural area around Ohio State University. One of her all-time favorite games was the trail of clues. She and her friends would spend hours writing riddles and clues to stump each other and then hide them in strategic places. Over the years, Robyn has served hamburgers at McDonalds, filed things for the magazine Highlights for Children, clerked in a bookstore (she read lots of books), worked in several restaurants (she learned about gourmet cooking) and co-owned a top ten award-winning, gourmet Chinese restaurant. She has even made her first-place almond chocolate chip cookies to order. She later became a teacher and is now the principal at an International School in Japan.
