Description
To Hena Shah’s relief, the rising whistle of a tea kettle muffles her mother’s hot
words reverberating around the living room of their Orange County, California,
home.
Hena has just informed her family she is calling off the wedding. This decision
propels her to shed the heavy weight of her Pakistani-American parents’
expectations and leave a promising career in medical marketing to pursue her
lifelong passion for jewelry design. From beyond the grave, Hena’s beloved late
grandmother, Dadi Jaan—the inspiration behind Hena’s creative spirit beckons to
her to make the journey to her ancestral homeland of Pakistan and chase her
dream.
Against the backdrop of the chaotic and colorful energy of Karachi, Pakistan and
the mountainous hinterland of Balochistan, Hena encounters friendship, love, and
crushing betrayal as she explores ways to create a jewelry-making business moored
in centuries-old artisanal traditions.
Mausumbe Road is a coming-of-age story and a riveting suspense novel with an
unexpected twist—inspired by the universal longing to find our own purposeful
path.

Mausumbe Road was thick with imagery and made me feel as though I were in Pakistan. My favorite part is the twist at the end because it threw me for a loop. I didn’t see it coming at all. I had so much sympathy for Hena. I loved being able to see into her life.
