Description
This Amish matchmaker is an expert at finding love for others, but will she find it for herself?
Widowed sisters Esther and Lizzie are the town innkeepers—and the town matchmakers. But when a new tenant moves into a guest cottage at their Peony Inn, the sisters are shocked to discover that maybe this time, one of them might finally find a match of her own. Retired dentist Dr. Benjamin Stoltzfus has signed a six-month lease at the cottage—and gentle Esther and spirited Lizzie are in a surprising competition for the kind doctor’s affections. Dr. Stoltzfus doesn’t appear to be Amish, but his last name and his mysterious background have the sisters guessing—and open to the possibility of finding love again.
Things really heat up when Benjamin’s granddaughter, Mindy, comes to visit. Escaping her big-city life in Texas, Mindy has moved to Amish country to be closer to her grandfather and to embrace the simpler life she has longed for. But she’s unprepared for what happens when an attractive young Amish man, who spends time at the inn helping out the widows, runs his lawnmower right into her little red sports car. Sure, Gabriel is cute and funny and nice—but can a romance between an Englisch girl and an Amish boy end well?
As Mindy and Gabriel find themselves thrown together time after time, they forge a friendship and start making matchmaking plans of their own. Which sister would be better for Mindy’s grandfather—Esther or Lizzie? And as the two young people put their energy into playing Cupid, it looks like love and the life they’ve both dreamed of might also be finding them.

This was a wonderful book about love and faith and family. It shows you have a little faith abd ove. You will find the right person who you belong too. I enjoyed the characters and storyline. This book was approved by netgalley and the publisher for me to read and review.
Esther and Lizzie are sisters and widows and they run the Peony Inn, an Amish Bed & Breakfast. One of their tenants is Dr. Benjamin Stoltzfus , a retired dentist. Esther and Lizzie fancy themselves matchmakers and have, indeed, been matchmakers to a number of couples over the years. Both of them are attracted to the retired dentist but they both attempt to make a match for their sister that they love. Ben has a clear favorite though he has esteem for both. It''s funny and engaging and Ben's granddaughter falling in love with their neighbor and friend who helps them around the Inn sweetens the story.
I have voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All views expressed are only my own honest opinion.
I get such a kick out of the situations that Lizzie and Esther manage to get themselves into when they go into matchmaking mode. This book is especially enjoyable because they are each trying to match the other with the same man. The banter between these two sisters is priceless and makes me smile. I love the way the ending sets up the next book in the series. I also looked up recipes for chow chow and think I will give that a try.
Such a fun story when two sisters, Esther and Lizzie, the local matchmakers, decide to matchmaker for each other. Turns out, it is the same man, a retired dentist named Benjamin Stoltzfus, a retired dentist. There is a little mystery behind the English man with an Amish last name who rents a cabin front the sisters. Read along to see if either sister ends up with Benjamin and if there is more to his story than he is willing to share.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley and the publisher for my honest review. All words and opinions are my own.
A fun book! Great to be back in The Peony Inn with the matchmaking sisters, Evelyn and Lizzie. The new characters Ben and Mindy were enjoyable to get to know as well!
Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own
The Amish Matchmakers by Beth Wiseman
Series: The Amish Inn (but is also a stand-alone novel)
Release Date: October 17, 2023 by Zondervan
Genre: Amish Romance, Amish & Mennonite Fiction, Christian Fiction
I highly recommend The Amish Matchmakers to every reader who enjoys stories of faith, trust, family, friendship, and laughter. This five-star entertaining novel is comprised of lovable characters with such unique personalities and talents.
Beth Wiseman, best-selling author and multi-award winner, writes what I call escape scapes! I so greatly enjoy the humor, bantering, and the Bible-based faith elements throughout this story. Each person in this story represents the Amish community in a real-life manner -- complete with illnesses and challenges. Wiseman explains many Amish traditions which I appreciate as I love to learn new things.
Besides Lizzie, Esther, and Mindy, what I loved the most about The Amish Matchmakers are the many messages woven throughout the tale to bring each reader closer to God and remind the reader of His absolute truths.
The Amish Matchmakers is such a wholesome, satisfying, funny, lovable page-turner.

I was tickled pink when I got this book! Woo-hoo! I love these two ladies so very much!
In this book, they made me love them that much more!
I don't know when I've smiled or giggled so much! Esther and Lizzie are a hoot!
This is the best story ever! I finished this book in one day, I mean, I just couldn't help myself!
Ol Mr. Dentists sure didn't know what he set himself up for when he moved into Gus' old cottage, lol, and I laughed at Lizzie's superstitious notions. But I really can't blame her cause I have them myself!
She's quite the character, but ya gotta love her! She's definitely a no-nonsense lady and tells it like it is. Esther, on the other hand, is a lot more like me. She tries to keep the peace! That's why I love these ladies!
They're definitely special! I feel like they're family!
I love the many inspirational messages in this beautiful story!
This is a wonderful reminder to keep the faith no matter what!
The cover of the book is delightful, and it will make readers pick this book up because they'll definitely want to know what they're talking about!
5 stars for a well written story! I enjoyed it so much! I highly recommend it!
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Beth Wiseman is my number one favourite author when it comes to Amish romance. One of her best; very interesting, complex characters and worthwhile messages for us all. Highly recommend. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I’m drawn to Amish books. This book had me hooked with two different love stories among two generations .
Ben, the grandpa, rents a cottage from Esther and Lizzy two Amish sisters . He was dearly in love with his deceased wife and now moves to Pennsylvania to be near his last relative , his granddaughter .
Both sisters are very different than each other but dearly love each other . I won’t ruin it for you on who, if any, will end up with Ben but I enjoyed the journey .
Mindy, the granddaughter , meets Gabriel when there is a lawn mowing accident. I enjoyed their love story . They both had different upbringings but both had the same values . One ultimately has to make the sacrifice to change to the others lifestyle: to become Amish or not .
This was a beautiful read . I highly recommend .
Thank you for the free digital download Netgalley in exchange for an unbiased review .
This stand-alone read took me back to the Peony Inn and the world of Ms. Wiseman’s Amish Inn series where I first met the sisters who headline this story—spunky, unpredictable Lizzy and conventional, levelheaded Esther. These lovable septuagenarians are at it again with their matchmaking but this time with a twist—matchmaking for each other with the same man! What ensues is a laugh-out-loud, heartwarming chain of events. There is also another romance brewing which adds interest to the story with some Amish/Englisch complications. The cleverly constructed, attention-keeping plot moves at a fitting pace. The wonderful characters are well-developed and realistic. I especially appreciate the valuable faith lessons on trusting God and following His guidance. Lizzie and Esther’s story left me feeling happy! I think other Amish fiction fans will embrace it, too!
I received a copy of this book from Zondervan via NetGalley with no obligation to write a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is another visit to the Amish Inn series that is so delightful. Widowed sisters, Lizzy and Esther who run the Peony Inn, have always been known to be the matchmakers in the area. Retired English dentist, Dr. Ben Stoltzfus, has moved into one of their cottages. Mystery surrounds him because of his last name being a well-known Amish name, but he appears to be English. Each sister becomes attracted to the doctor, but feel he would be just the person for her sister, so they pursue their matchmaking tactics so he would be attracted to the other sister.
The other characters making an appearance and setting out to do their own matchmaking among the sisters and doctor are his English granddaughter who has moved to the area and Gabriel, the Amish gardener for the Inn. They develop a friendship that has them not only seeing a friendship develop between the sisters and her grandfather, but begin to feel an attraction to each other that cannot be pursued due to both not being Amish.
This is a special book with a love triangle, and love between English and Amish. You will not want to put this book down until you find out how all of these relationships play out.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys clean romances. I received a copy of thid book from Zondervan and Netgalley. The opinion expressed is my own.
This was such a fun read! We get to experience love and romance in two different couples and age ranges. Solve a few mysteries. And fall in love with a wonderful array of characters.
I have to say that I can't choose just one character to say was my favorite. I loved Mindy but I also really adored Lizzy and Esther. Lizzy just has so much spunk and vivacity for someone her age! And Esther is the one that everyone would love to have for a grandma.
Maybe I should start with a bit more about the story.
Lizzy and Esther are both widows. They're also sisters. They run a bed and breakfast type place. Oh, and they're Amish.
They rent out their cottage to a retired dentist named Ben. His last name is definitely an Amish one but he's not Amish. His granddaughter lives in the area and he's staying for six months to be closer to her. Did I mention the cottage doesn't have electricity and Lizzy swears it's haunted by a ghost of a man named Gus?
Have I got you hooked yet?
I don't want to spoil it all but there are health challenges, faith challenges, trust challenges, and some good old-fashioned laughs to be had along the way while you read this book. You're going to love it. Trust me. It was amazing and definitely one I would read again.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.
Retired Benjamin Stoltzfus rented a cottage at the Peony Inn. Lizzie and her sister Ester are the innkeepers and matchmakers. When they meet Benjamin they start matchmaking him up. Without telling each other they work to match him with there sister. Esther tries to match him with Lizzie and Lizzie with Esther. What they do not know is Benjamin is hiding secrets. This is a great book with lots of laughter and also tears. Glad to meet up with Lizzie and Esther again. I love those two characters.
A delightful book. This is part of a series, but definitely could be read as a stand alone. I loved it. I was provided a copy by Netgalley but the opinions are mine.
The Amish Matchmakers is a very entertaining story about Amish widows, Lizzie and Esther, who are experts at helping their friends find love. When Ben, a retired dentist, rents one of the guest cottages at the inn, the sisters try to match each other with the handsome and kind doctor. Mindy, Ben’s granddaughter, and Gabe, who helps out around the inn, also try their hand at matching Ben with one of the sisters. Things get really interesting when secrets start to come out, and it turns out that just about everyone is keeping some kind of secret.
Beth Wiseman is a master storyteller who does an amazing job of balancing serious and hilarious plotlines. The characters are all very well-developed, especially the sisters, who we’ve been following through previous books in the Amish Inn series. The entire story is funny and engaging, especially the scrapes that the sisters wind up in during their matchmaking process. The budding romance between Mindy and Gabe just added even more enjoyment to an already great story.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian fiction or Amish stories. And if you haven’t already, you will definitely want to read the previous books in the Amish Inn series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
The Amish Matchmakers by bestselling and award-winning author Beth Wiseman is a Christian Amish fiction that everyone will enjoy. There are non-Amish people sprinkled in with the Amish. It is part of The Amish Inn Series, but most definitely may be read as a stand-alone. There is no way I can express how much I adored this captivating book.
Amish sisters, Lizzy and Esther, own and operate The Amish Inn. They live there together and are as different as night and day. A retired, widower named Ben rents out their small cabin. Both women are smitten by the good looking older man. He has come to be near his beloved granddaughter.
I found so much to love about this book set in a small Southern Indiana Amish Community. The characters are so personable that I want them to be my friends. They are believable and relatable. Descriptions made me feel like I was a fly on the wall watching things happen. At times I wanted to offer the characters my advice because I was so invested in them and their stories.
This is a beautiful tale of family, friends, hope, health, trusting God, and love. The entire story is crafted exquisitely and tied together with bits of scripture and inspiration. There are twists, superstitions, mysteries, emotional moments, and laughs. I would love to see this made into a movie. It is brilliantly written!
I highly recommend this page-turning, captivating book. Be forewarned, once you begin reading it do not expect to stop until it is finished. Yes, it is that good! I give it a 5 star rating. A copy was provided by NetGalley, but these are my honest words.
Another wonderful book with the matchmaking sisters, Esther and Lizzie who own the Peony Inn. A new tenant, Dr. Benjamin Stoltzfus will be renting the cottage for six months. An older gentleman whom both sisters have set their eyes on. His name sounds like an Amish name and he has a few hidden secrets. The antics that Lizzie pulls will have you giggling. The doctors' neice, Mindy comes to visit, she wants the quiet life and to settle on a career. Gabriel, the helper at the Inn accidently hits Mindy's little red sports car. As they end up spending more time together, each wants to know more about the others life. The twists and turns in this funny story makes this a can't put down book.
The Amish Matchmakers by Beth Wiseman is another adventure with Lizzie and Esther at the Peony Inn. Let me just say: I loved it! I read it all in one sitting. I smiled. I cried. I laughed out loud several times. Between the sisters trying to set each other up with the same man and Lizzie worried about a haunted cottage, there was plenty of fun. There was also plenty of heart. Truth spoken and hope for the future. Thank you NetGalley and the author and the publisher. As always, I am grateful for the chance to read her books.
Oh my I did not want this book to end. This story has it all. Laugh out loud humor, love, sadness, secrets, but above all friendship. Local matchmaking sisters Esther and Lizzie try to set each other up when a retired Dentist moves into their rental house.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting me an advance copy of this book in return for my honest opinions.

Beth Wiseman is one of my favorite authors. This book was a bit different because it contain information that the Amish Inn is supposedly haunted! I just loved that little addition
The two main characters sisters Lizzie and Esther are both widows, own the Amish Inn and are total opposites . Ben, and an older widowed gentleman, a retired English dentist, rents their small cabin to be closer to his Granddaughter.
Both Lizzie and Ester are attracted to him. As the story progresses many secrets are revealed. It is a beautiful story full of sweet romance, mystery and a happy ending. I'm a sucker for happy endings!
Five Stars. Highly recommend.
*****I received this free ARC from NetGslley in exchange for my honest review.
Beth Wiseman is one of my favorite authors of Amish fiction. This book did not disappoint. Wonderful characters with lovely stories intertwined to share love, family and friendship. I have to say my favorite character was Lizzie. She was funny and really added to the story.
I loved being back at the Peony Inn, and with the sister's Lizzie and Esther, and they are back at their matchmaking again, and there is a big surprise here. I was missing Gus, and he has gone to glory, but sure is mentioned, especially by Lizzie!
Enter a man renting Gus's cabin, and he is English but has an Amish name, and also he is good looking, at least in Lizzie and Esther's opinion!
This read does deal with some serious topics, and yet, it is handled with love and kindness! There is also a young couple that we end up caring about, and I loved the journey we take with them!
This is a page turner for answers, and once I had answers I did want more, and now I'm hoping for another book!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Zondervan, and was not required to give a positive review.
This a delightful book by Beth Wiseman. It centers around two Amish sisters, Esther and Lizzie, who are widowers and enjoy matchmaking the side. They own a bed and breakfast, The Peony Inn. A mysterious man wants to rent their cottage out for 6 months. Then they meet his granddaughter, Mindy, who was kept from her grandfather as a child. There is also a young Amish man , Gabriel, who becomes close with Mindy. You will have to read this book to see how everything comes together with God’s timing and plan. I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
Beth Wiseman tells a wonderful story about two old sisters Esther and Lizzie who run a bed and breakfast. When a handsome older retired dentist shows up and rents one of the cabins on the property, the two women find themselves secretly trying to match him up with each other. Esther knows that her health isn’t good and is hiding her Parkinson's. She feels if Lizzie had someone to love, she wouldn’t be left alone. Lizzie worries that Esther will need someone to care for her as she ages, so she wants the dentist for Esther. Unfortunately, Lizzie finds herself more and more attracted to the man for herself.
In the meantime, Ben (the old dentist) has his own secrets about his health and his past and has moved to the cabin to be close to his granddaughter, Mindy. Mindy loves her grandfather and after visiting him finds herself falling for the attractive Gabriel who help around the sisters’ property.
The story moves seamlessly between the sisters’ schemes for Ben, and Mindy and Gabriel’s growing attraction. Ben isn’t Amish, neither is Mindy - a problem for any future love match. The sisters discover a jealousy that hadn’t ever existed between them. The tug and pull of love versus loyalty, versus family keeps the reader turning the pages.
Being an older reader myself, I thoroughly enjoyed the love story of the sisters and the dentist. It is sensitively and delightfully written. It is rare to find a romance novel these days that wants to tackle love stories for people who are older and this one does so brilliantly. And of course, Mindy and Gabriel’s young love is passionate and sweet and balances out the other story. This was a really delightful read.
I received an advance reader copy of this book for free and I am leaving my honest opinion voluntarily.
I think that this book was an enjoyable story to read. All the characters in this story were memorable and charming throughout the book which is a real page-turner. It's a fun book to read as the sisters in the story have a delightful time making their guests at their inn feel welcome while also trying to match up their friends and family. This is one book I won't forget as I look forward to reading more books by Beth Wiseman!
*Thanks to NetGalley & Zondervan Publishing for an ebook copy in exchange for my honest opinion/review!
The Amish Matchmakers was the best yet in Beth Wiseman’s series about the Peony Inn. I love all of the books , but this one had me laughing so much I didn’t want it to end . Esther and Lizzie both having a crush on their newest tenant, a retired dentist, was intriguing from the get go. You wouldn’t need to have read any of the other books to read this one, but you’ll want to when you’re finished. Thanks to NetGalley and Zonderland for the advanced copy to review. All opinions are my own and was not required to give a positive feedback.
When you see the word "matchmaker", you think of putting people together, this time it was the matchmakers time to find someone - and they were not even looking!
Lizzie and Esther run a small hotel called the Peony Inn, along with three small cottages without electricity, and they had just rented one to an English gentleman.
Lizzie and Esther were in their 70's, Lizzie had no ailments, but Esther had diabetes and arthritis and moved slowly, while Lizzie even ran after chickens!
Lizzie decided to go over and meet their new renter even though she was afraid that the house was haunted by Gus, a former tenant.
Benjamin Stolzfus only relative, his granddaughter Mindy brought him groceries, candles and ice cube trays to help him air out the cabin and adjust to a prpane refrigerator.
Lizzie came over as Mindy was leaving and found out that Gabriel, their handyman, had run into Mindy's car by mistake and she invited them over for a pot roast dinner, but only Ben was free to accept the invitation.
Ben enjoyed eating and visiting with Lizzie and Esther, and Lizzie was bright and talkative and she even flirted with Ben!
You will enjoy reading about this Amish couple and their hijinks, and how they both fight over Ben!
Romance and Laughter
I greatly enjoyed The Amish Matchmakers. The story line, which included romance and humor with a touch of intrigue, as well as the characters, made it fun, engaging and just a joy to read.
One of the things that was so enjoyable was the banter between sisters Esther and Lizzie. It was entertaining to see the matchmaking tables turned with the matchmakers finding themselves on the receiving end of things. Another thing was the friendship and relationship between Mindy and Gabriel. I loved their interactions and watching their friendship grow while wondering what the end result would be. I also loved the realistic and heartwarming relationship between Mindy and her grandfather which added another special touch to the story. That combination of events will touch your heart and keep you smiling which is what makes this such a special story and one that I highly recommend.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are voluntary and completely my own.
Seventy-seven-year-old Esther and Lizzie, her younger sister by two years, run the Peony inn. They are also well accomplished matchmakers in the community. They each set their sights on the retired dentist, Dr. Benjamin Stoltzfus who just happens to be an English widower who is renting one of their cottages. Each woman thinks he would be a good match for her sister. That is, until one starts having feelings for the man.
I love this story. It is filled with feeling, a touch of mourning, issues that the elderly population deals with and wonderful humor. I want to thank Beth Wiseman, Zondervan and NetGalley for my copy of this book. This is my own unsolicited opinion. It is a sweet and meaningful read. Ben has a surprise, Esther has a secret and Lizzie has great quirks, energy and quite the imagination. Ben's twenty-two-year-old granddaughter, Mindy has an important role too. I loved this book. There's a good mix of faith, family love and romance.
The Amish Matchmakers is a fun story when two sisters, Esther and Lizzie, the local matchmakers. Of all things, each sister decides to be matchmaker for each other. They both decide that they should match each other with their new Tenet, a retired dentist named Benjamin Stoltzfus. What fun these sisters get into.
The Peony Inn is such a great setting for this story and Beth Wiseman does not disappoint in sharing another story with these adorable sisters. The story moves smooth, and although there are serious health issues discussed, it doesn’t put a damper on the story.
Also the characters of Mindy and Gabriel are just precious. It is so interesting to see their story unfold.
My thanks to Zondervan Fiction for allowing me to read an advance copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own. I highly recommend this 5-star read. Publication date is October 17, 2023.
Sweet amish romance
We are reintroduced to Esther and Lizzie, characters in several of the Ms Wiseman's Amish novels. This could be read as a stand-alone novel or better if you have read others in the series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the new main characters of Ben, a retired dentist, and Mindy, his granddaughter. As a person of a certain age, I enjoyed the romance of the older characters as well as the younger ones. This is a very diverting and relaxing book, highly recommended.
Thank you to the publisher who lent me a time limited e-arc via netgalley with no obligation. This review is optional and my own opinion.

Charming Amish romance featuring a later-in-life love triangle
Stand-alone novel, but returning to the world of The Amish Inn series
This is Widowed sisters Esther and Lizzie's story.
This is Mindy and Gabriel's story. Benjamin’s granddaughter,Mindy.
This is Dr.Benjamin's story.
This story has family, faith, mysteries, friendship and more.
If you enjoy Christian fiction and Amish stories you will love this book.
I recommend this book.
The Amish Matchmakers by Beth Wiseman is a wonderful well written 5 star book.
I am looking forward to reading more books by Beth Wiseman.
I received a complimentary copy of the book and was under no obligation to post a review.
I really Liked this story it was so cute! Its a story about finding love, finding family and finding where you belong in life. I loved Lizzie she had me dying laughing most of the book with her quacky personality and never knowing what's going to come out of her mouth or what she was going to do next. I really enjoyed the relationship between Gamiel and Mindy it was sweet. They both were searching for something that neither knew they needed but both of them wanted.
Ben and Esther were the wild cards for me, while they played a huge part in this story they also mellowed the story out from, young love to crazy silliness, it was like they were old souls just watching and waiting for there time o shine. Overall this was a super fun book and the author kept it clean so its suitable for all readers.
What a wonderful story with laughs, adventure and a sweet look at romance from young adults to older adults. I was so happy to read about my new friends Esther and Lizzie again. It is not a secret that they love to play matchmaker. The sisters are so different but they have one thing in common. They love the idea of romance and enjoy matching couples together. I loved how we get to see a bit more of their personalities and how much they look out for each other.
When a retired dentist moves in to the cottage near their Bed and Breakfast he causes quite a stir among the sisters. I laughed at one moment in the story when Lizzie thinks that Ben is dead. What she does to see if he is alive is almost like a I Love Lucy moment. The author brings humor to the story as both sisters seem to like Ben . They each are trying to play matchmaker for the other which leads to misunderstandings and a tinge of jealousy. I would love to be their neighbors because they are sweet , caring and full of life.
There is another little romance brewing between Ben’s granddaughter and an Amish young man. How they meet is a series of accidents that find Mindy and Gabriel pushed together. Oh it is so nice to see these young people get acquainted. They are from different backgrounds but that doesn’t stop them from having feelings for each other. It was nice to discover where the author would take the characters as she illustrates the importance of family, faith and love.
Lizzie and Esther have a close bond and are always looking out for each other. Ben does the same for his granddaughter. The family relationships are well defined in the story and I loved how this was used to show that families are to love each other unconditionally. They prefer each other and are an example of how God loves us.
There are some very emotional moments in the book as the author addresses a sensitive subject. My heart began to beat a little faster as I was so worried where the story would go. I loved the journey with these wonderful characters as I laughed and cried throughout the book. It is evident that God played a big part in this story and brought happiness and hope to many. This story will always be my favorite from this author. It touches on finding love again as we become older and to never give hope no matter what doctors say . My review will never give this book the recognition it deserves. I can’t express into words how much this story has touched me. Thank you Beth for giving me peace as I grow older and go through challenges that older people face. I will always remember Lizzy and Esther and their unconditional love for each other. Their hearts to help others find love is humbling and remind me of the scripture, “ No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for a friend.”
I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. The review is my own opinion.
This book will make you laugh out loud as the two matchmaking sisters try to match each other with the same man. I loved it!
I received a complimentary copy from Zondervan Fiction via NetGalley and was not required to write a review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book made me laugh. Esther and Lizzie have played matchmaker for many in their community but when a widowed dentist moves into their rental cottage, they each think he might be perfect for the other. The scene where Lizzie meets Ben was hysterical. She is such a spitfire. I love her and Esther.
There's a secondary story with Gabriel and Mindy that was interesting but the older folks really took center stage.
It was an entertaining read. I'd highly recommend it.
Thank you to Zondervan for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
I loved returning to the Peony Inn and staying with Esther and Lizzie. While this book can be read as a standalone, reading the others in the Amish Inn series will help some things to make sense. And do read them. They are delightful!
Matchmakers Esther and Lizzie are so sweet, and warm hearted, and funny. You’ll be glad you spent time at the Peony Inn. They just want to see everyone happy. Throw in a handsome dentist and his granddaughter and you’ll be kept wondering what is happening and how.
Author Beth Wiseman does write reality, and in this case she talks about serious disease, and even death. But she does it gently and with a bit of humor so it is not heavy in any way.
I loved how this book resolved the story line, and I highly recommend it if you enjoy Amish fiction.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
I've only read one Beth Wiseman book before this one. It was a detective story and was quite serious.
This book's tone was vastly different. It's mischievous and full of intrigue. The characters are all likeable, although Esther was my personal favorite. This particular tale follows the sisters, Esther and Lizzie, as innkeepers. They attempt some classic matchmaking, which results in hilarious situations. I would love to see this as a Hallmark film. There are some lessons about family, faith, and forgiveness along the way, but I didn't feel it was preachy.
I found out after I read this book that this is a series. I'll definitely be going to check those out.
One of the absolute best books Ive read this year. Truly. Sometimes you just want to read a good love story. One filled with that butterfly feeling and not filled with smut and profanity and this was it. It was a non traditional love story and I think it made it even better. It wasn't the typical 18 year olds falling in love and it just warmed my heart beyond measure. I wanted it to keep on going! The characters were just so relatable. It's not my typical read, but now it makes me want to read even more!
Loved this book, very sweet story. great characters and setting. highly recommend., I read it in two afternoons.
This book was a truly enjoyable book. I loved the story line and the characters. I had not read a Beth Wiseman book in a while, it was refreshing to say the lease.
I don't know when the last time was that I laughed out loud while reading a book, but this one had absolutely the funniest scene right near the beginning. It involves innkeeper Lizzie and their new boarder, Dr. Benjamin Stoltzfus. That's all I'm saying. I don't want to spoil the fun of this scene for anyone!
Widowed sisters Esther and Lizzie have been matchmaking from their Peony Inn for years, so what happens when a new man arrives - in THEIR age range - and they are BOTH interested? Neither one expected to have a second chance at love, especially not in their 70s, so each decides to match Ben with her sister. The shenanigans that ensue are too funny.
Readers who have been reading Beth Wiseman books for a while will recognize Esther and Lizzie from her Amish Inn series. Lizzie, as always, is an absolute hoot with her collection of clandestine romance novels that she has recently expanded to include ghost stories and murder mysteries and her ill-fitting dentures that she is constantly rearranging in her mouth. Esther is the calm in Lizzie's storm but Lizzie's enthusiasm for life keeps Esther plugging away.
I loved that there were actually 2 love stories at play in this book, both dealing with an Amish person and an Englisch one. Ben's granddaughter, the reason he has moved to Esther and Lizzie's inn, meets Gabriel, the young man who does the yard work at the inn. The way the two stories intertwined, and the tension between the two lifestyles make for great reading.
Readers who enjoy Amish romance with a heavy dose of humor will love The Amish Matchmakers. This is not billed as part of the Amish Inn series, but it should be. However, you don't need to read the entire series before you pick this one up. It can easily be read as a stand-alone. I flew through it, and laughed often. Highly recommend!
I love all stories by Ms. Wiseman! This was one of her stories about two widowed sisters in their 70's who are innkeepers together. They have a great deal of fun matchmaking! However, this time around, there is a two part story at play. One of the guests of the inn happens to be a handsome man in his 70's (their age), and his grandson whom he happens to be there visiting (another opportunity to matchmake).
This was a wonderful story with so much fun character development. I will continue to seek out books by this author.
Thank you, NetGalley and Zondervan Fiction, for this wonderful opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review! I greatly enjoyed it!
I love Beth Wiseman’s books and this novel was an excellent read. It is a charming tale of late in life love, and is told with warmth, humor, and heart.. The characters are endearing. and I loved the Amish traditions.
Many thanks to Zondervan and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Loved this book. Entertaining characters that you can care about. Lizzie is a hoot! When she saw Ben in his “underwear”, oh my goodness!
Really have enjoyed these matchmaking ladies.
