Lovely, simple book for young children learning early language and speech. A good resources for Speech and Language Therapists!
Holly Rosensweig's Let's Go, Puppy! is filled with adorable illustrations and simple words for our youngest learners. This would be a great language prompt for my pre-school students and the expressions on the characters' faces are also an excellent conversation starter.
Such a cute book! “Let’s Go,Puppy!” has a good story line and helpful words for toddlers, my baby brother loved it.
This one's a quick read, but its strength is its simplicity. There's a guide at the front that helps parents/educators/guardians emphasize key concepts and words. The illustrations carry much of the weight of the story, so you could ask kids to describe what they're seeing (and practice making inferences) or explain it for them; either way could be engaging.
Definitely get this boardbook for the kids! Because you will not be disappointed, if there’s anything like that when it comes to cute boardbooks that feature cute puppies and heartfelt pleasing illustrations!
Not convinced yet?!
You will be when you see this book in your hands!
We all know how it is going to be when we get a new pup in our homes. And this is accurately that!
Thank you, Ninewise Publishing, for the advance reading copy.
Let's Go, Puppy! by Holly Rosensweig and illustrated by Emily Rutherford is a wonderful new book with a basis in evidence-based speech development. The tips at the beginning and end of the book are wonderful resources for new parents. I can't wait to add this to my standard baby shower book list, alongside classics such as Pat the Bunny and Goodnight Moon. I hope it will be available as a board book.
"Let's Go, Puppy!" is an excellent board book that teaches early sounds in a fun and interactive way. Each page is filled with vibrant colors and cute illustrations that capture a child's attention and encourage them to learn.
I highly recommend, "Let's Go, Puppy!" to parents and caregivers looking for a high-quality resource for teaching early words to young children. Its engaging illustrations and carefully chosen vocabulary make it an excellent choice for children in the early stages of language development.
What a delightful story! Author Holly Rosensweig used the perfect puppy (thanks to Emily Rutherford, illustrator) to introduce beginning vocabulary and sounds that most babies learn first. With the extra information for parents on how to reinforce and expand these beginning sounds and words, this book can be very helpful for new parents. This would be a lovely gift for new baby to receive.
My littles loved this book. It would be perfect for kids just learning to talk. My girls are a little older but they love dogs and love exclamations. They had fun reading this book. The illustrations are so sweet and the pictures are nice and simple to look at. This is perfect for any baby’s collection.
Super cute book, amazing for kids and beautiful pictures. very well done and would recommend. it was just adorable!!!
Admittedly, the dog picture on the cover is what first drew me. I've become predictable that way. But, I quickly found the concept behind this book intriguing. Although I taught for years, I never dealt with children just learning to create the wonderful and, yes, sometimes annoyingly repetitive sounds we're capable of making, so I was curious as to how teaching this skill is approached. I should note here, too, that this board book is as much for parents as teachers.
The publisher's blurb does an excellent job detailing the book's contents, so I'll simply share my own reactions. First, it offers direction to adults using the book. A "how to", so to speak. The artwork by Emily Rutherford is simple, so as to attract but not distract, if that makes sense, using color and limited backgrounds. We're essentially following a puppy's day, with the various words spoken to it repeated in large print. Heck, even a passing car gets a word in. Two actually, "beep-beep" and I grinned at the soapy rubber ducky on the "wash-wash-wash" page.
The book is short and by focusing on something most babies and toddlers show interest in, a puppy, designed to keep the child's attention. The puppy is adorable, btw. Bottom line, if you have a child at this stage or learning, you won't be disappointed. It's not only colorful and cute, but teaches both the teacher and child.
Thanks #NetGalley and #NinewisePublishing for sharing this teaching insight with me. My Daisy dog gives this one four paws up plus a tail way.

This book is perfect for parents and babies. It teaches us as parents how to teach our babies their early words. And it also teaches babies those early words! Such a cute way to teach them!
I have kids ages 3-9 and I so wish I could have had this book during their first few years of life! The illustrations are perfect for young children and I loved the teaching cues at the beginning of the book! It reminded me of Leslie Patricelli books and how easy the words are to mimic for development. This is definitely worthy of the space on your kids' bookshelf!
Super cute for the earliest learners. My 22 month old loved it and repeated the words. Great illustrations
It's a sweet book with lovely illustrations that can help children aged 4 to 6 learn new words. I loved it!
This was such a cute book! As a speech and language pathologist, I appreciated the simplicity of the story and how many of the words target the early 8 phonemes- /n, p, m, d, w, h, b, j/ and vowel combinations. It also uses or allows the use of many core vocabulary words (up, eat, more, go, down, stop, no, all done, etc.). The illustrations are so cute and the puppy as the main character is sure to be a hit with the little ones. The first page also encourages readers on how to add to the story to increase use and understanding of language. I can't wait to purchase this book once published. Kudos to the author!
WOW! I did not anticipate what a great resource this book would be!
My three year old is currently in speech therapy and I actively look for picture books with little words so I can tell the story with simple first words that we are working on. This book already uses those simple first words in a way that encourages your child to repeat them.
I really appreciated the first page of instruction on how to utilize the book for speech and the early speech sounds and letters to go over with t=your child in a more fun way!
I cannot wait to see what else this author comes out with. I would love to see this exact style book made telling a ton of different stories. I will buy and utilize every single one.
This will be an easy first birthday present buy for our friends as well.
This is a very simple book for young babies. The repetition of simple words and sounds is great for helping babies learn to talk. The pictures are adorable and the simple situations the characters participate in are fun.
This was such an adorable read and should be on every expecting parents list of to buy. Let’s Go, Puppy is a fast paced and fun read for both parent and child ! The illustrations on this were phenomenal as well super sweet and really immersed the reader into the story !
I wasn’t sure about this book when we first looked at it. I thought the illustrations were too simple and I would have preferred brighter colours…
I was wrong! My 21 month old really enjoyed it. She repeated a lot of the words after me and insisted on us reading it twice in a row. My 4 year old also joined in and was able to describe the story to her younger sister. Of course, they both enjoyed the puppy getting dirty the most!!
Definitely recommend for under 2’s.
Simple book, yet full of great resources and adorable pictures! My son loves puppies and saying more, so this book is a perfect learning tool. I can’t wait to use this book to add to his vocabulary.
Thank you, Netgalley and Ninewise Publishing, for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Adorable! This little puppy is so cute and so relatable. From eating, playing, getting dirty and taking a bath this puppy's day gave my kiddo and I an opportunity to relate to the story and practice some very simple and useful words.
I loved the illustrations and the flow of the book. This is one I would include in a baby shower gift basket!
What a super adorable book!
I liked the page at the beginning that provided suggestions on how to approach reading the book with a child, from repeating words, pointing to objectives and encouraging the baby to point, gestures, describing what is happening on the page, etc. As a result, it takes the book from a basic book of just reading the words on the page to a more engaging book that can be scaled up and re-read as the child continues their language development.
The story itself is really simple and straight forward: a day in the life of a puppy as it wakes up, eats, walks, plays, digs, makes a mess, has a bath, and then goes to bed.
super cute. I would gift this book to people who have babies.
Beautiful illustrations and very accessible for young readers! This is a great book for babies but also to assist younger readers with identifying words. Would absolutely buy this!
What a sweet book! I'm a prek teacher so I think this book is for younger children. But the illustrations were great and the story was cute! And I liked how it included simple teaching instructions for younger children.
I will be nannying for a 1-year-old over the summer, so I've been requesting different picture books that would be great for the baby. This book is perfect. The illustrations are great, and I love the page instructions that are helpful for caregivers. This book is great for first words and helping babies get comfortable with hearing sounds and pronunciation. The common phrases that the baby would probably here daily, and the pictures will promote sounds in the child. I will recommend this book to other baby and toddler caregivers and use it when nannying.
Thank you, Netgalley and this publisher, for this arc.
Thank you to Holly Rosensweig and NetGalley for this ARC!
What a tremendous resource this will be for the development of speech and language in children! Following Puppy through his day with the cutest illustrations will keep young minds engaged. I loved the resources in the front of the book for parents/guardians/educators/therapists.
I love this precious pooch as it moves through its day! The illustrations are so engaging, and also simple enough that my students will be able to understand, name, and describe the vocabulary, concepts, and interactive skills modeled in the words/pictures. I look forward to matching up my story props and mini objects for students of all skill level and enjoying this story again and again.
Adorable illustrations and I love the guide at the beginning for caregivers for encouraging language development. I can see this book being a valuable early literacy tool for babies.
My son has a speech delay and I had to check this out after reading the description. I think rbis will be a great tool for him and other kids who have a speech delay or are learning to speak. This is a book I’d definitely want a physical copy of to read frequently with my son. I also love that it’s about a puppy because he and other kids really love animals!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC! The repeating text works well throughout this book.
I love the advice it gives for adults on how to incorporate language from the book into everyday life. As a special education teacher, I love this for caregivers. I also love the amount of core vocabulary there is throughout this book. This is a great read for young readers. The pictures are not overwhelming and not too simple.
This is an adorable book for toddlers and even babies. Reading to babies and toddlers helped them so much and especially books like this that are educational and fun. My toddler loves it!!
Adorable book for children who are just learning to talk. The puppy is adorable and can be naughty too! Great description on ways to enhance the use of the book in everyday life situations. Would highly recommend.
What a delightful book! I loved the simple text and charming illustrations. It is fantastic for building early language and very engaging for young learners! Easily used by teachers, therapists, and caregivers, and children, and would also be a great book for early readers. Loved it!
This book is absolutely adorable with the cutest illustrations and a great introduction. This book uses baby friendly words that can be implemented in a Childs daily life. I think this is a great addition to any Childs library and for parents to find new ways to encourage new words from their babies.
This is one of the best books I have seen for encouraging early sounds in young children. There is so much here in so few words. First of all, for parents reading to young children, there are a couple of pages of suggestions on reading and the sounds targeted. Second of all, the story lends itself to simplicity in the wording as it should be for teaching toddlers. Third, the illustrations are perfect with large outstanding images of what one is focused on - large paw prints and others to get the attention of young toddlers. I highly recommend this book to parents, speech/language pathologists, and pre-k teachers.
Absolutely adorable read, your child will love following along this story with fabulous illustrations
Let's Go, Puppy! by Holly Rosensweig is an adorable book to encourage language development and is a great book for a child's first words! It is simple and uses common early sounds. Perhaps what I love the most, is the prompt at the beginning of the book for the reader to help engage the child. I love how the author gives tips on repeating words, pointing to basic objects, gesturing, describing what is happening, and adding to the story text once the baby has started to use words and is expanding into phrases.
Overall, this is a book I would highly recommend to parents, or as a gift for a new baby! I know this would have been helpful for me when my children were younger!
5 STARS!
This is a great resource for early literacy, and the tips are helpful for those reading the book at home. I thought the illustrations were sweet, the text was nice to read, and the repetition was great!
I highly recommend this book for teaching young toddlers sounds and words. The toddlers will like the cute illustrations of puppies and parents that go along with the words they are learning.
The authors included a page at the beginning of the book that explains to toddler caregivers how to encourage children to talk using this book - repeat, point, gesture, converse and progress. The book takes the puppy thru activities that the child will be able to relate to in their daily life.
This book is great for interacting with your toddler while you are teaching them their first few words. The book is simple and sweet with great illustrations. I would recommend this book for baby gifts in the future.
This is a beautiful and cute picture book for the very youngest little ones who are just learning to articulate the sounds they make. Loved the pictures and their combination of simple, yet catchy sounds and words that go perfectly well with the pictures. The drawings are simple enough for the little ones to be interested in those and also cute.
Beautiful illustrations. Really helpful guide at the start.
This would be a lovely read especially if you have a pet!
I'm thankful for the opportunity from Netgallery and Holly Rosensweig to read Let's Go,Puppy by Holly Rosensweig and illustrations by Emily Rutherford.
This book was written by a speech pathological which immediately got my attention as a new parent trying to navigate motherhood and speech development. I loved the the introduction that provided a rubric of how to use the content in the book to encourage early words. This put in perspective everyday life events that I can use this Rubric as a guide to help me navigate his speech development. I also found the page about what sounds to focus on first very helpful.
The topic of the book being about a dog was a big hit for us. This kept him very engaged and wanting to participate in each page. The illustrations was lovely and easy for him to determine it was a ball or car , etc.
Thanks again for the privilege to enjoy this awesome children book with my son. We will definitely be rereading this and using the helpful tips.
Let's Go Puppy is an adorable book! Who doesn't like a puppy? The storyline and illustrations are so engaging and interactive! Perfect for early learners developing their speech and language skills! I'd recommend this book for all preschool children and their families!
Adults and little ones are certain to find the illustrations in this title absolutely adorable (and often humorous). In addition, the front of the book informs adults about how this title might be used to encourage a toddler’s early language development so it is not only about the cute factor.
Simple words accompany the pictures and are repeated several times to help in learning. I think that both adults and kids will like spending time with this one.
Many thanks to NetGalley and NInewise Publishing for this title. All opinions are my own.
This early literacy book would be great for my Pre-K students due to the repetitive nature of the book. Simple words are repeated on each page with accompanying colorful illustrations. I would incorporate the book in my Teaching Strategies pet study.
Thank you to NetGalley, Holly Rosensweig, and the publisher for this advance reader copy in exchange for my review.
Adorable young children's book! This is a very simple book that helps to encourage words and sounds for babies. The illustrations are engaging and do a great job showing the various parts of the day with the puppy. The first two pages with suggestions for how to use the book with a young child are also a great addition!
I love how a seemingly simple book can such a powerful tool for building early language skills. The author has some tips in the beginning of the book for how the reader can encourage interaction with the child. The story also perfectly lays out an everyday routine so it's easy to repeat some of the words in this book in real life throughout the day. Bonus points for the cute illustrations and puppy dog theme! I'll be reading this one again and again with my toddler.
This book was so cute! Perfect to read to a toddler. Also perfect for a beginner reader or struggling reader. The pictures are adorable and would hold a young readers attention.
Such a cute little picture book! I wanted to download and have a look at this before buying it for my 2 year old. It's a simple book in which I can help encourage his speaking by reading the words and repeating them I think it will be a great addition to our little bookshelf!

Thank you Netgalley, Ninewise Publishing, & Holly Rosensweig for this ARC. This book is out June 27, 2023 and is a great for young readers. We have read this over and over. My daughter is 2.5 years old and loves dogs and reading. This book is perfect for her and she has started recognizing some of the words on her own! We will definitely be looking for a physical copy of this to add to our bookshelf!
Let's Go, Puppy! is a cute toddler's book. I read it with my 5 year old son and it was almost too young for him. He did enjoy it and he liked looking at the illustrations and making up his own stories about the pages. Definitely would recommend this book to anyone with children younger than 5 or with cognitive setbacks for repetitive sequences and short sentences on the pages.
Thank you to Holly Rosenweig, Ninewise Publishing, and NetGalley for giving me an eARC of this children's book.
Thanks NetGalley for the preview!
My one year old and I loved this book! A fun read with great opportunities for language development and repetition. The illustrations were adorable but simple. We will definitely buy this one, especially as a board book for toddler hands!
This is the perfect book for my one-year-old! I love that it was written by a Speech Language Pathologist, so it will support my baby's speech and language development. Before the story begins, the book includes simple instructions to encourage early words, such as using the words in the book during everyday routines, naming basic objects as you point to them and encouraging baby to point, acting out actions on every page, and more. The story itself is simple, and the words are easy for baby to learn and repeat. Even though there are not many words in this book, it still tells a cute story that baby can understand. I will definitely be buying this book!
Thank you to NetGalley and Ninewise Publishing for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I LOVE this! It's so simple, yet so effective. We practice speech in a lot of different ways in our house, and I love the examples it uses at the beginning to expand on the pages as you're reading. Will definitely purchase!
I love these types of books that lets the reader know how to engage with the book for the greater benefit of the baby in mind! It’s simple yet colorful and every page leaves room for further discussion and repetition from the toddler which leads to them being encouraged to speak. I feel further confident knowing this is a book by a speech pathologist as they are amazing professionals at what they do!
This book is so perfect in every way. As a kindergarten teacher, I love that it encourages the child to repeat the words and discuss what is happening in the illustration. The beginning gives you early childhood sounds to practice that are developmentally correct. As a mom, my son loved this book. He had a blast talking about what was happening in the pictures. He also had fun reading the repeated words with me. This book is perfect for all young kiddos and I need more!!!
I absolutely loved this book. I read this book to my son and he enjoyed the book. The repetition of the words is great for little ones that are still learning how to pronounce words.
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK!. This is a great first book to read to children starting from newborn and through toddler years to help teach children different words and sounds with a cute and simple book. I would recommend this to everyone and when it comes out will be buying it for myself and all my friends who are parents.
I was drawn to this book by the puppy on the cover and the fact that the author, Holly Rosensweig, is a speech-language pathologist. With an infant at home who is rapidly increasing his babbling and a dog that he is obsessed with, it was a perfect fit. I appreciated the parent's guide at the beginning, which explains how to expand upon the text in the book by describing images, expanding the words into phrases, or acting out the pages. This isn't something I do naturally with children's books, so knowing that it's built into the book's concept is so helpful. For instance, there are subtle details in the images, like an apple tree, that allows me to have a conversation about apples. The phrases are common, like no, more, and all done, that I could even add simple sign language that we're teaching to it. Overall, a cute book for infants learning to talk.
Recommended age: 0-2 years
Writing style: Simple words and phrases, like "Ready, set, go!" The words are often repeated three times, and some sound words are also included, like a car going "beep beep."
