Description
This book contains a collection of provocative short stories by award-winning journalist, Michael Bowker. They range from dark stories of true crime to accounts of spectacular heroism – from an incredible tale of a man who has saved more than one million human lives, so far, -- to the author’s entanglement with a serial killer.
Bowker, storied career includes writing for the Los Angeles Times, Reader’s Digest, Simon & Schuster and many other publications. He includes several stories showing the power of the positive side of human nature. They illustrate the amazing ‘ripple effect’ that can build worldwide from one person doing one simple, good deed.
In his conversational style, Bowker also recounts fascinating interviews he had with celebrities, athletes and politicians, as well as his close calls with an angry mountain lion and an exploding volcano. The book includes a heart-warming account of a forbidden, international love affair and humorous stories of his remarkable outdoor adventures. There are also some thought-provoking pieces on the current challenges to our natural environment.
Bowker touches on the current state of American journalism, which he compares to the American condor, an endangered species. He outlines some changes that need to be made and shares a candid and surprising interview he did with media legend, Walter Cronkite. The stories in this book explore the light and dark sides of human nature. Some might keep you up at night, but most will make you laugh and provide entertaining insights into our world.
