Description

"With tons of suspects and plenty of danger, this is Coble at her best." --Library Journal | "Nobody does romantic suspense better than Colleen Coble." --Lisa Gardner | "Engaging characters, irresistible intrigue, and a slow-burning romance." --Mary Burton

USA TODAY bestselling author Colleen Coble knows there are few things more dangerous than family secrets, and her novels provide that ideal blend of suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat with just the right amount of romance. Perfect for fans of Laura Dave's The Last Thing He Told Me or Allison Brennan's You'll Never Find Me.

Since her police-officer husband Eric's mysterious murder, Carly Harris has been struggling to support herself and their infant son. Her career as an antique dealer isn't sustainable, nor is her dream of becoming a novelist. So, when her grandmother proposes she and her two sisters restore the family's large Beaufort home and turn it into a bed-and-breakfast, she immediately gets to work clearing out the house. In the process, she uncovers a family secret that Eric kept hidden. And an heirloom that the wrong person wouldn't hesitate to kill for.

Homicide detective Lucas Bennett isn't his neighbor's biggest fan, not since she broke his brother's heart years ago. But when Carly turns to Lucas for help, believing she's found a lost Fabergé egg that would be worth millions and could put her family's lives in danger, he can't help but get involved. Soon, they're entangled in a mystery with threads that lead all the way to the Russian mafia. Lucas has gotten in deep, and while he trusts his ability to keep Carly and her family safe, he begins to realize he's vulnerable to an unexpected kind of danger--and helpless to stop the freefall. As they continue working closely together, Carly and Lucas realize they may have found something more precious than gold. Yet it's only a matter of time before Carly--or, worse, someone she loves--gets hurt.

Colleen Coble's Fragile Designs is gripping suspense with closed-door romance and includes an intriguing mystery surrounding an extremely valuable Fabergé egg, second-chance romance, home renovation, and found family.

Fragile Designs is a Christian Suspense Romance from one of my favorite authors, Colleen Coble. I couldn't read this book fast enough and lost sleep trying to figure out who could be trusted in this unique and complex plot. The main characters, Carly and Lucas become more and more likable as they grew throughout the story. Their heart, determination and faith had me shedding a few tears. A not to be missed book by an amazing writer.

FRAGILE DESIGNS by COLLEEN COBLE is a thrilling romantic suspense novel, full of twists and turns, with great characters and a subtle Christian message.
When Carly Harris’ husband Eric is brutally murdered, leaving her pregnant and alone, she moves in with her grandmother Mary Tucker, in her large house in Beaufort, South Carolina. Mary asks her other two granddaughters, Amelia and Emily, to come and help them turn the house into a bed and breakfast. Carly’s sisters are jealous of her and suspicious of her motives…..
Throw an uncaring father, a young stepsister, a handsome homicide detective who lives next door, a Faberge egg, an uncovered adoption and the Russian Mafia into the mix, and you will find yourself on a roller coaster ride….
I am not going to tell you any more for fear of spoiling things for you.
I cannot recommend Fragile Designs highly enough. It is a most enjoyable and exciting read.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Thomas Nelson. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

“Our lives are so fragile. Maybe it’s by design so we look to God.”
In the aftermath of her husband Eric’s unsolved murder, Carly must raise her son alone. As she learns more about what Eric was really into, the secrets he kept bring her entire household into danger. Discovering a valuable Faberge egg, enduring attacks from the Russian mafia, and finding unknown family members all collide until the truth is uncovered once and for all. Life is fragile and not everyone will survive, but Carly trusts God and His plans while fighting hard against the evil surrounding her.
This is an action packed story, sprinkled with a little bit of romance, that is hard to put down. A complex plot with many characters, it was difficult to keep it all straight at times. I found myself searching for a character’s name on my kindle to refresh my memory. But it is a fast paced, enjoyable read from a top notch author and well worth the time. If you like Christian fiction, suspense, or romance, this is the book for you.

I never hesitate to suggest a Colleen Coble book. If you enjoy clean, romantic suspense, you will love her stories. The only warning, I have is the possibility of losing some sleep. I often keep reading way too late because her books are impossible to put down.

This fascinating story begins with the introduction of Carly, who makes a living going to flea markets selling the collectibles she is found at estate sales, garage sales and online websites. Her dream however, since she was a teenager is to author a historical novel someday.

Upon arriving home, she looks for Eric, her husband, and finally wanders out to her shop, where she keeps and sorts through all the treasures including some antiques she and her sisters inherited. Not finding him, she calls his phone and hears it ringing from back in the corner of her shop. She finds him lying face down on the floor with his shirt soaked in blood. That night she was planning to tell him she was pregnant.

The story picks up nine months later when baby Noah is two months old and Carly lives with her grandmother in Beaufort, South Carolina. While searching through the attic, she makes a shocking discovery, as well as finding a treasure wrapped in an old shawl, that changes not only the direction of all their lives, but their safety and well-being as well.

This is a fascinating, captivating story with many moving parts that kept me turning the pages until the end. The characters are relatable and got right into my heart from the very beginning.

This book should be a movie on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. It has all the components of a good mystery that keeps you on the edge of your seat, as well as some romance mixed in.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book was very enjoyable. I like a good mystery and this was a good one with some surprises along the way. I had heard of faberge eggs, but did not know much of their history and how much they can be worth. Quite amazing.! I received a complimentary copy of this book. Fragile Designs by Colleen Coble is a standalone, romantic suspense story.
This is another story written by Colleen that I enjoyed from the very beginning.
I was captivated with this book, and was immediately drawn to the story.
There was definitely chemistry between Carly and Lucas, but the romance is light and does not overpower the mystery. This is a Christian Fiction story, so there is a faith basis to the story. I enjoyed the spiritual aspects in the book that added another level to the relationship.
Coble is a talented writer and I look forward to each new addition she adds to her growing list of excellent novels she has written.

This book should come with a warning “do not start if you don’t have time to finish”, I could not put it down! The characters come alive, you feel their pain, anger, hope, anguish, compassion, sorrow, and love. Carly and Lucas are so amazing, as they weave through this incredible, well written plot that has so many twists, turns and surprises. This is a must read!

This is a fascinating Christian suspense novel by one of my favorite authors. Thank you to the publisher, to Net Galley and to the author for the opportunity. My review opinions are my own.

This has all the elements suspense readers enjoy. Carly is a new widow with a young child. Her husband was a police officer involved in underground neferious activities. She moves in with a family member to help create a bed and breakfast that will support her and her child. She finds evidence of her husbands activities and a Faberage Egg that others will kill for. Soon she realizes the danger she is in and must reach out for help to a old friend to save herself and her family.

This was a book I read cover to cover. It is non stop action and a thrilling read. I love her books for the Christian element that has no sex or unpleasant reading. The charcters were outstanding and well crafted. The sleuth was exciting to conclusion. I highly recommend this book for your reading enjoyment.

There are many plots to be unwrapped in the story. That makes for a satisfying ending. The main character is not at first likeable. I was neutral in my opinion. Then aspects of her personality began to be unraveled like an onion. This was a story that I looked forward to reading and was sad when it had to end.

Fragile Designs" by Colleen Coble is a captivating standalone romantic suspense novel that I thoroughly enjoyed from the very beginning. The story immediately drew me in, and I found myself completely engrossed throughout.

The chemistry between the main characters, Carly and Lucas, was palpable, yet the romance remains subtle and skillfully balanced with the mystery at the heart of the plot. As a Christian Fiction story, the book incorporates a faith-based element, which I appreciated and felt added another layer to the characters' relationship.

Colleen Coble's talent as a writer shines through in this book, and I eagerly anticipate each new addition to her already impressive collection of novels. Her ability to weave engaging stories with relatable characters is truly commendable.

I want to express my gratitude to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for their generosity in providing me with a complimentary copy of this amazing eARC. As stated, all opinions in this review are entirely my own. #FragileDesigns #NetGalley

Carly couldn't find her police officer husband Eric anywhere, she was excited to tell him about her pregnancy. Eric had promised to go through and organize the items her great - grandmother had left her so she checked the shop and the garage. Finally she called his phone, it rang and she went to the shop where some boxes had been sorted and found Eric on his stomach with a wound on his back that stained through his shirt - his body was already cool to the touch and Carly screamed..
Nine months later Carly is raising Noah at her grandmother's house, an 1800's mansion in Beaufort, South Carolina. Mary Tucker approached Carly with the idea of renovating the old house and turning it into a bed and breakfast and Carly could run it.
As Carly investigates the furniture in the attic, she finds a document that proves that her grandmother is adopted and has a twin sister. But she also finds a priceless Russian treasure that will affect Carly's family, the Russian mob, and secrets that uncover who murdered her husband and what they will do to find what she has. Totally engrossing story - I had to read it in one day!

"Fragile Designs" is a Christian romantic suspense. Carly feels like she has to earn her family's love and that it's her responsibility to make her younger sisters happy after being abandoned by their father. She has been taking the blame even when she knows it's not her fault because she doesn't want her sisters to dislike their father or her husband, with the result that they dislike her. She comes to realize that her behavior isn't helping anyone, and she attempts to change.

Initially, she's thrilled to find the historic, valuable Fabergé egg and is eager to research the story behind how it came to be in her possession. But when several groups come after it and aren't afraid to kill anyone standing in their way (mainly each other), she worries for her family. They're more valuable than the millions that the egg's worth. Her neighbor, detective Lucas, helps protect them while solving who's after the egg.

The main characters were likable, complex, and reacted realistically to events. The suspense came from the danger to her family and anyone connected to or after the egg. There was also plenty of family drama adding to the mix. Lucas supported Carly in her effort to no longer take blame and guilt from her family, and he protected them all during the danger. Carly and Lucas came to admire each other's character as they spent time together. Carly hadn't the best experience with marriage while Lucas didn't feel he could find a wife able to deal with his job, so both had to overcome their reservations about marriage.

There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this complex and interesting suspense novel.

I've read most of Colleen Coble's books, and this one is my new favorite. She weaves history with mystery and gives the reader a page-turning story with characters you'll want to embrace. In the beginning of the story, Carly's life is a mess, but she has her grandmother to help her. Lucas hesitates to get involved, but he's a police officer and he's responsible to assist the folks in his town. One thing Coble added to the story, that I loved, is a sweet baby. Little Noah plays a key role in bringing people together. And the mystery... wow. Let me just say Faberge. There is a race to find and authenticate a rare antiquity and too many people have greedy eyes and will go to great lengths to steal the prize. Under all the craziness and chaos a beautiful story of family emerges. If you enjoy romantic suspense, you'll want to read Fragile Designs. I received a free copy. Opinions are my own.

There are so many layers to this book! Carly Harris has had more than her fair share of deception, neglect and strife. Determined to put her husbands murder behind her and build a life with her newborn son Noah, she embarks on her greatest journey yet to remodel her grandmothers home into a bed and breakfast along side her estranged sisters. Fueled by her Faith and sheer determination she begins to find restoration, hope and just maybe unconditional love. A must read!

This book was so suspenseful and full of intrigue! I really enjoyed learning more about the Faberge eggs as well. Even though the families had a lot of dysfunction, I enjoyed how they worked together. My favorite characters were Carly, Lucas and Noah.

Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

This is not my first time reading a Colleen Coble novel, so was very happy to have another of her works to read and review. I've enjoyed this story very much and believe others who like the Russian angle in a saga will too. Then of great interest, the Faberge eggs; antiquities; twins; murder; family ties and dysfunction - you name it - will likely have them eagerly turning the pages as well. Carly and her wee babe add tender moments along with Lucas giving extra spice. All come together to provide some good, clean mystery and suspense and an enjoyably satisfying read.

I'll give this novel a 5-Star rating.

Carly Harris is a widow and she has come to help her grandmother restore her beautiful Southern mansion to create a bed and breakfast. Next door neighbor, Lucas Bennett, is a local police detective who remembers Carly as the girl that broke his younger brother's heart. When Carly finds some long hidden information going through her grandmother's attic she need Lucas' help to unravel the mystery. Through the effort, her grandmother finds out some interesting things about her past, Carly finds out new information about her husband's death, and Lucas finds out his brother's situation wasn't what he had thought all these years. This is a great suspense story full of mysteries and close calls. Riveting!

Would the prospect of $40 million dollars change your family members? Would it change you? Carly Tucker has very selfish sisters and a disinterested father. The only bright spots in her life are her beloved grandmother and her infant son. After she finds an extremely valuable Faberge egg in her great-grandmother's belongings, things start to collapse around her. People are getting hurt, killed, and kidnapped. Carly is at her wits end trying to keep everyone safe, while she solves a decades old mystery. Her grandmother's neighbor, Simon, is a detective and he has his hands full keeping Carly safe. Despite his best efforts, Simon begins to fall in love with Carly. As secrets begin to emerge, Simon finds out that Carly's husband's death was related to the missing egg. And whoever is after the egg, will stop at nothing to get their goal.

I love Colleen Coble's books, but Fragile Designs is a new level of fantastic! She really knocks it out of the park with mystery, memorable characters, and light romance! I loved Carly, Simon, and Carly's half-sister, Isabelle. This book touches on neglect, adoption, loss, the Russian Mafia, greed, and second chances. I highly recommend Fragile Designs!

Fragile Designs is a stand-alone book by Colleen Coble that captured me from the first page. I could not put this book down. It was a roller coaster ride from the beginning until the end. The book starts out with Carly as a widow raising an infant son. Her husband was murdered and never knew he was going to be a father. She moves in with her grandmother and trouble follows her. She finds a Faberge egg and finds out that it is quite valuable. I love the relationship she had with her grandmother's next door neighbor who at first didn't like her. Many characters in the book who could or could not be the villain. Some who I thought were innocent turned out gulty and more than one who I though were guilty turned out to be innocent. There are twists and turns in this story. I was quite satisfied with the ending.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Wonderful book. I am so enthralled by it that I keep wanting to get back to reading only to remember that I finished it. It’s definitely a crime novel but having a Fabergé Egg play a major role made it very interesting. Lots of potential suspects and unexpected twists. One of the main characters has a baby and the author does an outstanding job integrating the baby into the story and showing how much work newborns are. Likable main characters with wholesome values. An incredibly selfish set of secondary characters who slowly come around. I love the additional story that includes Gram. Great combo of historical and modern day events. Could this really happen? Probably not. Enjoyable and relaxing? Most definitely. It’s a feel good book that will give you hours of pleasure and is informative at the same time. Ms. Coble is an excellent writer.

Many thanks to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for an advanced reader’s copy. I was not required to leave a positive review. All opinions are my own.

I often turn to Colleen Coble’s books for cozy romantic suspense and Fragile Designs is one of my favorites that I have read from her! Carly is a sweet character and the baby is perhaps my favorite part of the book! Lucas is genuine and protective as the hunt down the treasure and seek to reunite Carly’s grandma with her long lost twin sister. The suspense takes a little more of a backseat in this book. Recommend to anyone wanting a little mystery with a happy ending!

Thank you, Net Galley, for an advance copy of this book.

In Fragile Designs, Colleen Coble combines twins separated at birth, domestic drama, a murder or two, a Faberge Egg and romance. What could be better? After the murder of her police officer husband seven months earlier, Carly, finds herself living with her grandmother in a large Victorian in Beaufort SC with her newborn son. Next door is an old beau and his brother Lucas, a Beaufort PD Detective. Carly, who collects and sells antiques, has inherited estate items from her great-grandmother. While cataloguing the items, Carly makes some major discoveries regarding family history and finds a real Faberge Egg made for the Russian Imperial Family in 1885.

Almost immediately, strange people appear in Carly's life and danger is imminent. Carly enlists the aid of her neighbor Lucas to look into the several mysteries and the murder of her husband that have suddenly appeared. A major renovation of her grandmother's house brings two difficult younger sisters back into her life. Carly is forced to prioritize her own needs and resolve old and new hurts to move on.

Throughout the author does a brilliant job of navigating twists and turns seamlessly keeping the readers interest right to the end. I am a fan of Colleen Coble and have read almost all her books. I enjoyed this ride and was delighted to see my favorite independent bookstore in Pawley's Island included!
This book will keep your attention!

There was so much happening in this book, it begs for a sequel.

This book had me hooked from the first page. I could not put it down! A great mystery, a lot of action and suspense, family secrets, and a little bit of sweet romance. I liked that there was so much detail to the story line and there were multiple options for the "bad guys". It really kept me guessing and intrigued. Towards the middle it was hard to figure out how everything was connected but the author did a good job of tying up loose ends by the end of the book and explaining everything.

I'm a big Colleen Coble fan but this is one of the best books she's written in the last few years. The setting, the mystery, the conflict and character growth... all of it was amazing and I could not put it down. There was so much heart and I loved the emphasis on family. The mystery was extra intriguing to me because of the unique subject matter. It's hard to say much about what I loved without spoilers so I'm just going to say that you should read this book!

This stand-alone book is one that I would read again and I recommend, especially if you want to try Colleen Coble and don't want to dive into a series.

Colleen Coble. Enough said, correct? In her novel Fragile Designs (releasing Jan. '24), add in a Faberge' egg, secrets, murders, and enemies thrown together to solve the mysteries to get a page-turning, action-packed, plot. Just when you think MAYBE you've figured it out, another twist is revealed. Coble has continued to hone her craft as each book gets better and better.

A expertly woven masterpiece that weaves a delicious tale of danger, suspense, old secrets, family drama, and romance! Colleen Coble’s books never cease to captivate me, but this may be my new favorite book of hers.

Carly Harris finds herself a widower and a new mom back living with her grandmother. While going through her great grandmother’s things to sell, she stumbles upon decades old secrets that thrust her and her family into danger.

Lucas lives next door to Carly and her grandmother but tries to steer clear of Carly. When the secret Carly is investigating brings danger to her and her family, Lucas is forced to go running to help protect them. Together, he and Carly must work together to find answers to the past and protect her family.

This book is a must read! Drawn in from the beginning, I both wanted to devour the story, but also hated to see it end. This book will not disappoint!

Here are a few reasons I love Fragile Designs by Colleen Coble. First, the storyline was something I hadn’t read before, with fantastic insight and research into the rich history of Faberge eggs. Second, Coble’s secondary characters stole my heart. I just loved little Noah, all of his cooing, and Gram, with all of her stylish attire and warmth. Third, the title was perfectly selected for its faith-filled theme.

A few minor details that could be given a second thought… Siela Chen is also mentioned in Dark of Night, book two of the Annie Pederson series. Due to her unusual first name, I checked, but the name is Siela “Cheng” in that story. I appreciate the diverse cast and hope Coble gives Siela a story if she hasn’t already. There was one more that I can’t recall now. The story wrapped up perfectly.

I have never come close to tears by any book, I had goosebumps throughout the story, smiles, and tears (happy of course). The ending was perfect. The story was perfect, the characters PERFECT. I need a paper copy of this book and I know that I will be gifting this book to loved ones this Christmas.
The story starts with making you feel Carly’s (the main character) heartbreak me, you will fall in love with her and Lucas, the detective helping her solve the case of her murdered husband, almost instantly and will intensify as you read the book.
This is a clean book absolutely zero spicy scenes. I have been trying SO hard to find an author who writes without using spicy scenes to capture its readers and she outdid and exceeded my expectations.
If I could rate this a 10/5 I would. My new #1 favorite book.

Colleen Coble does a great job of working family and romantic relationships into her mysteries, and this book is no exception. Between a stumped murder investigation, family dynamics with Carly and her sisters, a new relationship budding, a newly discovered twin sister, and a mystery surrounding a found Fabrege egg, there is plenty of suspense, intrigue, and emotion to keep,my turning pages! Wonderful story!

Fragile Designs is an easy read involving mystery, international intrigue, and suspense. Add in family drama, romance, and twins separated at birth, and you have a story that was hard to put down. I recommend any and all of Colleen Coble’s books as she is one of my favorite authors.

Wow - What a terrific story is found in the pages of Fragile Design, a novel centered on the discovery of what is thought to be one of the lost Faberge Eggs from Russian history. If indeed this egg is what it seems, it's worth tens of millions of dollars and where such great amounts of money are involved, it's no surprise that criminals are not far behind. Actually, it's a real challenge to stay ahead of them.

The author has written a truly engaging story, one that touches on so many aspects of life - Love, betrayal, forgiveness, deception, murder, intrigue, danger, and romance. This book has it all. Such great characters that at times I almost felt like I was in a small theatre watching a fabulous play.

Hard to believe I've never read a book by this author before now. She's an excellent writer. No gaps, no slow points, plenty of excitement and suspense, with a wonderful romance woven throughout the pages of this story. It's an engaging read that you won't want to put down.

Set mostly in South Carolina in the present. Carly Harris is a widow, her son Noah is two months old and they live with Carly’s grandmother. While clearing out her grandmother’s attic Carly finds an old chest. Inside the chest she finds a photo and documents. Hidden in a blanket is a mysterious egg-shaped object. She also finds a note that had been written by her murdered husband.
When Carly starts questioning how the items in the chest could be linked to her husbands murder she soon finds her own life could be in danger.
I loved the way this story unfolded to reveal family secrets. Full of action, twists and turns.

What a page turner! So much happens to Carly and her family in this book as they try to uncover their grandmother's family tree. Carly is a genuine person and she cares for everyone around her. It is too bad that she doesn't always get that treatment in return. Uncovering the mystery of who is behind everything takes you right to the end of the book! Colleen Coble does not disappoint!

Wow, what a great read.

Intrigue , suspense , murder and more murders, family, relationships , drama , love , betrayal are all in this book.

We follow Carly and Luke throughout this book. Carly is recently widowed and goes to live with her grandma for help with her newborn and to help her grandma.
Her husbands death seems natural but as she gets more Information things seem suspicious. Maybe he didn’t die of natural causes ?

Luke is a neighbor and a detective who gets pulled into the intrigue and suspense of who done it and who Carly has become . He enjoyed spending time with her and her baby and suddenly bachelorhood doesn’t seem as great as it used to be.

Carly finds out she has inherited a Faberge egg. Interestingly I recently read another book about Faberge eggs and so knew abit about the history and how valued and rare these books are . They are incredibly rare. The story of how and why she inherited it includes an unknown adoption , another country , an orphanage.

This story has a lot of different characters , twists and turns . It is incredibly well done and kept me hooked the entire time . I will read this one again. Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

This story begins with wonderful news, with her marriage in trouble, Carly is excited to learn they are expecting. Moments later she is going to be a single Mom, but as the facts unfold and the secrets drop, more than you can possibly imagine!

This is a read that is full of surprises, and yet, full of the love for family, and we journey for answers and findings. and I loved the Author's Notes, and her fascination with Faberge eggs, and we are along as she weaves one into this mystery!

Filled with action, and strong on emotions, I needed answers, and with some comes warm hugs and love, but then there are those that really surprise you.

There is a bit of romance and there are babies, along with sisters! But will all survive to the end?

Carly Harris is finally finding her feet again when she uncovers a secret that leads to another shock but it all leads to grands finale that's well rather grand. Carly just wanted a family thats functional. But with influences what they are it wasn't happening.
Lucas Bennett was always leary of the girl next door but when she broke her brothers heart she really put on the avoid at all costs list. But things are not always what they seem.
An intertwined, interweaving suspenseful and engaging story.
This was my first story for this Coble but not my last.

I loved this novel — the connection with a Faberge egg was such a fun approach. The hero and heroine are fantastic and I love the way they play off each other. They are both surrounded by a rich group of additional characters. There are some twists and turns and moments of taunt tension. Another great book from one of my favorite authors.

Since her police-officer husband Eric’s mysterious murder, Carly Harris has been struggling to support herself and their infant son. Her career as an antique dealer isn’t sustainable, nor is her dream of becoming a novelist. So when her grandmother proposes she and her two sisters restore the family’s large Beaufort home and turn it into a bed-and-breakfast, she immediately gets to work clearing out the house. In the process, she uncovers a family secret that Eric kept hidden. And an heirloom that the wrong person wouldn’t hesitate to kill for. Homicide detective Lucas Bennett isn’t his neighbor’s biggest fan, not since she broke his brother’s heart years ago. But when Carly turns to Lucas for help, believing she’s found a lost Fabergé egg that would be worth millions and that could put her family’s lives in danger, he can’t help but get involved. Soon, they’re entangled in a mystery with threads that lead all the way to the Russian mafia. Lucas has gotten in deep, and while he trusts his ability to keep Carly and her family safe, he begins to realize he’s vulnerable to an unexpected kind of danger. As they continue working closely together, Carly and Lucas realize they may have found something more precious than gold.

I was introduced to Colleen Coble through my church book club. I enjoyed the book we read so much that I have found and read several of her books since. She writes a great, clean mystery with a romance element. She always seems to come up with a new mystery that pulls you in from the beginning of the story. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read the author's latest book.

One of the best Colleen Coble books I've read yet! Wow!
This novel kept me turning the pages long into the night because I couldn't put this fantastic adventure down.
Fast paced and lots of twists and turns along with family dynamics added to the mix. What more could one want?!
We can't forget the special mystery either. Oh my!
I learned a lot from that special mystery too. I never knew they existed.
Wonderful characters and plot that will keep you invested until the novel is finished.
I loved Carly's Grandma. I enjoyed how she "manipulated " her grandchildren into doing what she wanted. Sometimes I laughed outright at her.
In my opinion I believe that she made this story.
But I'll reserve that for other readers.
5 stars hands down. I loved every minute.
I highly recommend it

Woooooow.

What a FUN book. This is exactly the kind of thriller I want to read. A great historical component, a bit of a treasure hunt, a dash of romance, an exciting family drama. I gobbled this up and was sad when it was over.

I’d like to add: I am from Georgia, and I thought Coble did a great job of capturing the state and its people. The sweet doses of Christianity were both accurate and refreshing. To be clear: This isn’t Christian fiction. But it was genuinely cool to see characters in a normal book pray in situations in which Christians (especially in the South) absolutely would stop to pray. Really just well done.

Thank you to Net Galley and Thomas Nelson-FICTION for the chance to read and review this book. The opinions expressed are my own I really enjoyed this mystery. When Carly Harris is cleaning out her Grandma's house, she finds a Faberge Egg. With Homicide Detective Lucas's help, she finds the answers to several family secrets. This mystery was easy to read with several twists and turns. Highly recommend!

This book was amazing in every way! It’s a propulsive thriller along with a twisted mystery and a family drama that is expertly woven into the story of a missing Faberge egg. Carly’s husband was killed in a home invasion and she is left to raise their son Noah alone. Her grandmother has a plan to turn her large mansion into a bed and breakfast, something that will support Carly and Noah long after she is gone. In perusing the contents of the attic, Carly makes a remarkable discovery that will change the entire family’s life, if they can survive it, that is. I really enjoyed the characterization; all of the characters were well-rounded and dynamic. Even the bad guys were so well portrayed that I really hated them and their nefarious and deadly deeds. The plot is complicated with family issues, a missing twin and treasures that need to be discovered and protected. The complicated plot was written brilliantly with a sense of intense and edgy suspense that kept me totally engrossed in the story. I really enjoyed getting to know Carly and how giving and loving she was, in spite of how people took advantage of her. I also liked Lucas, the swoonworthy neighbor who doesn’t want to have any kind of relationship outside of protecting Carly and her family. Add to all of this the Russian mob, a swindling family member and so much more! This is a fast-moving book that is captivating, multi-layered and insightful into personalities of the characters and their motivations. I loved this book so much that I was sad when it ended…I just wanted more of the remarkable Tucker family and their head-spinning history.

Someone murdered Carly Harris’ police officer husband before she could share the good news of her pregnancy with him. Although she loves her current occupation of buying and selling antiques at flea markets and she has a teaching degree, Carly can’t see making ends meet and fulfilling her dream of staying home with their son while he is young.

When her grandmother invites Carly and her baby to move into her large home in Beaufort, SC, Carly jumps at the opportunity. And when her grandmother suggests turning the historic house into a bed and breakfast, Carly sees it as a perfect answer to prayer.

The project will provide a way for her to reconnect with her two younger sisters and offer a modest income for Carly while she works on her dream of writing novels. When she starts organizing the attic in preparation for the renovations, Carly discovers two mysteries. A priceless Fabergé egg from the Russian royal collection and evidence her grandmother has a twin sister.

Carly knows what will happen if the world discovers the treasure in her attic, so she puts it in a safe place and concentrates on finding her grandmother’s missing sister. Only someone seems to already know about the egg—someone willing to kill to get their hands on it.

When Mary Tucker’s granddaughter and great-grandson move in next door, police detective Lucas Bennett does everything he can to avoid them. According to Eric Harris, a childhood friend, and Ryan, Lucas’s brother, the beautiful Carly is bad news.

When Carly tells him about finding a priceless egg and a possible connection to Eric’s murder, Lucas begrudgingly agrees to help her. The more involved he gets in the investigation, the more Lucas realizes Carly is nothing like he imagined. He also realizes someone or someones will do anything to get their hands on the Fabergé egg.

What I Loved About This Book

If you love second-chance romance with an enemies-to-lovers twist combined with edge-of-your-seat suspense, you’ll love Coble’s latest book, Fragile Designs. Readers who struggle with healthy family boundaries will relate to Carly and her need to find healing in her relationships with her sisters. Carly and Lucas carry the baggage of betrayal and must learn to forgive and extend grace.

The plot twists and turns and the historical mysteries keep the reader engaged from cover to cover. Carrie Stuart Parks, Cara Putman, and Lynette Eason fans will love this book.

Wow! What a fantastic book! It's non-stop action from beginning to end! The story is amazing! I read it in one day! I've always been fascinated with Faberge eggs and their history.

The characters are wonderful! Carly is a nurturer. She gives of herself, asking nothing in return. Lucas is a protector. He's also generous and considerate.

There's so much going on besides the mystery involving the egg. Family members are reunited, sisters bonds are strengthened, and there's even a sweet love story!

This is a definite must-read! It's everything you expect from Colleen Coble- superb writing!

Book Title: Fragile Design
Author: Colleen Coble
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Genre: Mystery Thriller, Historical Fiction
Pub Date: January 2, 2023
My Rating: 4.5 rounded up!
Pages 352

Whenever I see a new book by Colleen Coble it automatically goes on my TBR list! This is # 21 for me!
In fact, when I saw it was also available in audiobook I requested it as well. I was shocked that I got both. Trust me - I read the book and also enjoyed the audiobook.

I went into this story knowing nothing about it as I love this author.
However when Carly, a new mom and a struggling to make ends meet- antique dealer finds an egg painted with chipped red paint ~ I immediately asked out loud “A Fabergé egg???

Story had me from the beginning with the unexplained home invasion and murder of Carly’s husband Police Office Eric Harris
Carly takes their infant son Noah and moves in with her grandmother in the hopes of starting over. Her grandmother has been thinking about restoring the family’s waterfront Beaufort home into a bed-and-breakfast—and wants Carly to run it as gram knows she is not going to be able to provide for herself and child in her current job.
.
Carly starts cleaning out unused boxes and comes across some items in one of the old boxes and believes Eric may have known about the contents and it is what caused his death.
Hmmm

Homicide Detective Lucas Bennett lives next door and has never liked Carly since she broke his brother Ryan’s heart when she married Eric.
. However Lucas soon finds that Carly as well as baby Noah are special. When strange things are occurring around Carly, Lucas fears she is in danger and knows he has to look out for her.

The historical information regarding the Faberge egg was interesting as well as the mystery that goes back to the Russian mafia.

I read a lot of thrillers and know to suspect everyone so have to admit whodunit wasn’t a shock but I loved this story!

In Colleen Coble’s "A Note from the Author"- She tells readers that she is thrilled that she finally wrote about her obsession with Fabergé eggs. She thought about it for twenty-five years and this story was a true labor of love.

There are also great discussion questions e.g.
It is easy to make snap judgments about other people; in this story Lucas didn’t like Carly although he
really didn’t know her. Have you been wrong about someone? If so how did you handle it?

Want to thank NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for granting me the pleasure of reading this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for January 2, 2024

Carly is a widow with a baby, living with her grandmother, and with the mystery of her husband’s murder. Sorting through a trunk her great-grandmother left her, Carly discovers a letter stating her grandmother was adopted and has a twin. With the letter are a Russian shawl and, under red paint, a priceless antique. Could this be why her husband was killed? Is her family in danger? Why is the logical person to ask for help the next-door neighbor and homicide cop Lucas, who has disliked her since she broke his brother’s many years ago?

Weaving multiple threads - the grandmother’s mysterious birth mother, fraught relationship with the sisters she practically raised, unknown but dangerous people after the antique - Coble kept my interest from the start. Plot twists kept me reading and several surprises caught me along the way to the satisfying conclusion. This is a winner; highly recommended.

Wow! Wow! Wow!! I absolutely loved this book!! So many twists and turns and excitement!! This will be award winning for sure for 2024!! A must read for Christian thrillers!!

This is just one of those feel good books that you can't put down. Colleen Coble knows how to grab your attention and keep it from beginning to end. I loved everything about this book, well maybe not the murders, but they made the story very interesting!! I fell in love with the main characters.

Carly and her husband are going along and if you asked Carly, everything was going ok. Carly comes home to find her husband murdered one day and not only does she have to deal with that, but she soon finds out that she is pregnant and will be a single mom because her husband never even knew she was pregnant before he was killed. Carly is a trooper though and does well being a single mom. Carly moved in with her grandmother and has not yet decided what she is going to do for a job when she gets to where she can go back to work. She had been helping with her husband's grandmother's flea market sales, but she can't hardley do that now with a baby.

Carly's grandmother suddenly decides that she is going to renovate the house that they are living in and make it into a bed and breakfast and has asked Carly to run it so that she can stay home with her son, Noah. Carly has always known that her grandma has had her best interest at heart and is thrilled at the idea. They have asked Carly's other sisters to come help with the remodel of the house. Things begin to get chaotic when everyone is in the house and the remodel starts.

Carly had been tasked with getting some of her great-grandmother's items ready for auction or to sell and while she is cleaning out one day, she stumbles upon a letter that was written by her great-grandmother and it throws so many loops into what the family has always knows. Carly end up finding a Faberge egg. The history behind the egg is one that Carly has only heard about and thought that she would never be able to actually hold one of the eggs.

The story that unfolds with the egg and with Carly trying to figure everything out is one that you will want to go on with her. There are revelations that take place that will leave you with your mouth open. I loved this book and can't wait for more from Colleen Coble. Her books are always a great read!

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own. Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book. Such a great read!

Carly Harris is raising her infant son by herself after her husband Eric was murdered. She lives with her grandmother and her grandmother wants to turn their home into a bed and breakfast. She hires their next door neighbor Ryan to do the work. While going through the attic, she discovers a chest. When she goes through it, she discovers her grandmother was adopted. She also discovers what she believes to be a Fabergé Egg hidden in the folds of a shawl. She goes to Ryan's brother Lucas for help who is a police detective. There is home broken into, murders, others have their homes broken into. It all seems to be connected to the discovery of the egg. They also discover that Carly's grandmother has a twin sister. She is even in danger so they have to find her fast. Carly never wants to remarry and Lucas also has no plans to marry. But they find it hard to keep their feeling to themselves.

Outstanding:
I have read many books by this author and I think it is safe to say that this one was my favourite! I loved how the plot felt unique and interesting and I found myself frantically turning pages in order to discover what was going to happen next. The pacing was excellent and the story seemed to flow effortlessly. I was drawn into both the mystery and the family drama.
There was a sweet slow burn romance between Carly and Lucas and it was lovely seeing them journey towards love. Relationships and family played heavily in this story and the characters were portrayed in such a way as to feel authentic and relatable. All in all, this was a most enjoyable book.

While I have enjoyed all of Colleen Coble’s books, her latest, Fragile Designs, is by far my favorite. I could hardly put it down! With Coble’s classic combination of mystery and romance, this story had layers and twists that kept me riveted to the end. I loved the diverse characters, the historical addition of Romanov Faberge eggs, the hunt for a missing twin separated at birth, and the fast paced plot. Truly, Coble delivered all the elements of a masterful storyteller.

This is a suspenseful, richly plotted, mystery full of real to life characters, numerous villains, murders, deceptions, love, loyalty, and a whole host of other great things. I could not put this book down. The suspense began in the first chapter and really never let up until the end of the book. The author truly has created a wonderful suspense story that leaves the reader guessing right up to the end. I appreciated that although this book has horrible events taking place, I was not left feeling like I read a horror book. It is definitely a book that any suspense reader would enjoy, and I highly recommend it.

I requested and received a copy of this book for review, but the thoughts expressed here are wholly my own.

I really like books by Colleen Coble. This one has a lot of twists and turns. It will keep you reading "just one more chapter". It's an interesting story about twins separated at birth and the gifts their mother sent with them. These gifts would later be worth a lot of money. It's a story about family, love, forgiveness, greed, heartbreak and reunification. You won't want to miss this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.

Readers who enjoy a little history along with mystery and treasure hunting will love this book. I loved the mystery surrounding the discovery of the Faberge egg. Who is after the egg and what means will they go to in order to steal it for greedy purposes? This story has lots of twists and turns as Carly and Simon race to find the thieves that are murdering people to obtain the precious heirloom. Highly recommended!

Family secrets, a death, drama, and treasure. All-of the elements for a great story. Beautifully written.

Imagine how your life would change in an instant if you found one of the missing Romanov Faberge eggs in your attic. That’s what happens to Carly. Soon she realizes that’s not the only surprise or secret she found in the attic. Could this also tie in with her husband’s murder several months ago? It soon becomes difficult to know who to trust and what to do.

The author did a great job of taking several different story threads and weaving them together. There were a few different possibilities for villains and a surprise or two along the way. There was a lot of action and suspense. It was a fun read.

Thank you to Thomas Nelson for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Carly is simply trying to support her family when the an unexpected find in the attic brings more than she bargains for. With the help of her neighbor they will have to dig deep into family history to find out who is willing to kill for what she found.

I enjoyed this book. Lots of twists and turns and kept me guessing until the very end.
My opinion is my own after I received an advanced copy of Fragile Designs.

I enjoy Colleen Coble books - was disappointed this wasn't an Annie story...but it was an amazing story!

Widow Carly's husband, a cop, was killed in a home break in while she was at a flea market. She didn't get to tell him he was going to be a father, but she knows her junking bit won't support her growing family. She takes her grandmother up on restoring her historic home and turning it into a bed and breakfast. There she discovers more secrets and information that leads her to believe her husband wasn't just killed during the break in, he was murdered. She's got the help of her grandma's neighbor, also in law enforcement to help her solve the mystery and bring the family together closer. It's a really intriguing story and fast moving, very easy to follow and will keep you reading to find out what happens next. I just love a Colleen Coble story - her mysteries are incredible!

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a digital, temporary ARC in return for my review.

In Colleen Coble's Fragile Designs, Carly is a young mother and widow struggling to make ends meet after her police officer husband, Eric, is killed. Unable to make a living on her own, she moves in with her grandmother to renovate the grand old mansion into a bed and breakfast. Her sisters barely speak to her because of an old grudge.

Tasked with sorting through items in the attic to sell them, Carly uncovers a treasure and secrets that endanger her and many others.

The story is fast-paced and full of compelling, believable characters with plenty of conflicts. Death, fresh starts, family secrets, love, crime, and intrigue drive the story along the coast of South Carolina and Georgia.

Highly recommended for readers who love romantic suspense and mysteries with a Southern flair.

I loved this story so much! It had all the details, suspense and plot to make you want to binge read read it!

I love history and I truly enjoyed that this book brought that it into the story. The Russian mafia has always intrigued me along with Russian history (I loved Anastasia the movie) and this was so well laid out and wonderful.

I loved how the family dynamic changed halfway through the book and they all came together to protect one another. And the romance! Nothing wrong with a little enemies to lovers trope! Such a sweet, slow building attraction for the two MC’s.

Thank you NetGalley and author Colleen Coble for the gifted ARC in exchange for my honest review.

If you want a fast-paced, second-chance romance, with some good family drama? This is for you!

Carly Harris, an antique dealer, who buys and sells at flea markets, finds her husband murdered in her work shed. She quickly stumbles into a fast-paced thriller that involves her family, a Faberge Egg, and she constantly runs into the works of the Russian mafia. Along with her neighbor, Lucas, Carly has to figure out what to do about the egg and keep her family safe.

Coble did a great job of keeping me reading. I had to find out what would happen to Carly and Lucas. The writing was constantly sprinkled with cliffhanging chapters and dusted with light, blooming romance. I loved how the family worked through some hurt and the strength Carly gained throughout the story was everpresent. She was a great main character and I loved that her faith and prayer life were discussed fully in different instances of the story.

It's a great book with a great storyline!!! 5/5 well-deserved stars!

It was a while since I have read a gripping suspense book like this one which had me flipping the pages and not being able to guess how it would end.

The suspense book about a missing Faberge egg and more than interested parties after it resulted in a few dangerous situations.

But then the adding plot of the various relationships in Carly’s life and how everyone grew through this story, which led to reconciliations and new beginnings added another factor to this story.

** “Our lives are so fragile. Maybe it’s by design so we look to God.” **

Colleen Coble delves into the world of lost Faberge eggs with her latest standalone novel, “Fragile Designs.”

Still reeling from her husband’s murder, Carly Harris is living with her newborn son and grandmother. She finally decides to go through the antiques left to her by her great-grandmother. While searching through the contents, she makes a stunning find — an item that has historical impact and great value, as well as information that will change her family forever. But suddenly horrific events begin occurring, so she turns to Gram’s neighbor, Lucas Bennett, a homicide detective, for help. As they dive deeper into the intriguing case, will they be able to safely resolve the situation, determine who is after them, and admit to their growing feelings for each other?

As usual, Coble creates a mind-blowing thriller with twists and turns. She also develops great characters — some relatable and flawed that the reader will fall in love with, some evil and twisted. She also fills “Fragile Designs” with some great themes, like the need to look to God for guidance and help; always having hope; overcoming assumptions and misconceptions; and “unknown treasure is out there waiting for us.”

Fans of romantic thrillers and authors like Lynette Eason, Irene Hannon and Patricia Bradley will love this story.

Five stars out of five.

If you’re looking for an edge of your seat read with plenty of twists and turns, Fragile Designs is it! I love a good thriller with complicated characters, a touch of romance, and nail biting suspense. This book really delivered on all those accounts. From the first, I was drawn to Carly’s plight as a young widow trying to navigate raising an infant son, complicated family relationships, family secrets, a treasure that may have caused her husband’s death, and danger from those who are after the treasure. Add to that the handsome neighbor next door who happens to be her old highschool sweetheart’s older brother and a colleague of her dead husband’s, and you have quite the story!

Colleen Coble always manages to deliver an unforgettable mystery that’s hard to put down. Her characters are complicated yet relatable and often in need of redemption. I appreciate that she doesn’t sugarcoat the kinds of trials they endure. The mystery behind the Faberge egg was fascinating. I loved learning more about what makes these so valuable and how the egg tied into Carly’s family history.

The romance between Carly and Lucas had such a great arc going from casual acquaintances to more in a believable way. Lucas is a cop which really helps when Carly and her family’s lives are constantly in danger. Lucas was really nervous around kids and wasn’t interested in marriage and family. I loved the way Carly and little Noah wove their way into his heart. Carly has been through so much especially with her deceased husband. I loved her grandmother and how she provided a way for Carly to earn a living and reconnect with her sisters through turning her home into a bed and breakfast.

The suspense really kept me on edge especially with the Russian mafia involved. I could hardly put it down! Each new clue added to my suspicions of an ever growing suspect list and I enjoyed trying to narrow it down. As with each of Colleen Coble’s mysteries, there’s an element of faith woven in that’s believable and natural.

I listened to the audiobook version and thoroughly enjoyed it. I felt like the narrator did a great job distinguishing between all the characters and really bringing the story to life. She put in just the right amount of emotion and I enjoyed how she voiced both female and male characters.

Definitely recommend to romantic suspense fans especially those who enjoy inspirational romantic suspense. I received an advanced listener copy from the publisher. All opinions are my own and voluntarily provided.

Colleen Coble's books have been an automatic read for me for many years and Fragile Designs is another reason why. This one pulls on the heartstrings with a suspenseful, edgy story, including a romantic flair and touch of inspiration and faith. Carly moved in with her grandmother after losing her husband before he knew he was to be a father. Carly always puts her family first and when she finds what she thinks is a Faberge egg in a chest left to her by her great grandmother, she wants to include her ungrateful, selfish sisters in the event that it brings in money. What she didn't expect is to be in danger along her loved ones. Her neighbor, Detective Lucas Bennett, comes to her rescue but he has not liked her since she and his brother broke up years ago. He realizes pretty quickly that he was wrong about Carly. This is a page-turner with lots of action, danger, suspense, and mystery. This one has a great setting of low country of South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia. A full slate of likable and some unlikable characters, including Carly's sweet baby Noah.
I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.

You know you have an excellent author's book when you read through a migrain but just cannot stop reading! Plot-twists, turns, suspense, danger everywhere, who on earth can you trust, family drama, exes, forgiveness, faith & romance: this is just a few descriptions for what is happening! Lucas has his job cut out for him and then some to try and keep Carly and little Noah safe while trying to navigate the dangerous circumstances surrounding Carly's family. This was nailbiting stuff! Brilliant, excellent book that is definitely a cannot-afford-to-miss-story!

Whew! I feel like I've been on an emotional rollercoaster after reading this story. This story is filled with danger, family secrets, hidden treasure, strained family relations, murders and break ins, and so much more. There are several interwoven storylines that add to the overall enjoyment of the reading experience. And with multiple possible culprits it kept me from being able to readily guess who was behind what was going on. I love when a good story takes me through a range of emotions - from laughing to crying and back again.

Fragile Designs pulled me into the story in the first chapter. I immediately felt for Carly and her situation. The other characters are also introduced through the natural flow of the plot. ! I enjoyed the growth of the relationship between Lucas and Carly and the changing relationship between Carly and her two sisters. I also appreciated how faith was woven throughout the book. That plot has twists and turns to keep its reader on their toes. This is not one of those books that you're going to read a little before bed, no, you're going to finish it. Plan accordingly! I would definitely read more from author Coleen Coble and would feel very comfortable recommending Fragile Designs to friends and family that enjoy excellent romantic suspense.
I received a complimentary copy through NetGalley from the publisher and am sharing my opinion of this very well-written book.

Fragile Design is an intricately plotted story by consummate mystery/thriller author Colleen Coble. Carly Harris deals in antiques and flea market finds with a legacy load of merchandise from her great grandmother to sort through. The furnishings she has been tasked with organizing and selling to share with her two sisters, Amelia and Emily. However, the chest was left especially to her along with all of its contents.

While on a weekend flea market trip her police officer husband Eric is supposed to be helping her by organizing the items in her storeroom on their Pawleys Island property. When Carly returns she finds ominous clues that something is amiss. When she finds Eric, it is face down in a pool of blood in the back of the storeroom with boxes ransacked around him.

A year later, Carly and her infant son Noah are living in Beaufort with her grandmother, Mary Tucker. When strange things begin happening, Carly turns to the police detective next door, Lucas Bennett, with her concerns. Lucas is not a fan of Carly’s after the teenage breakup of her with his younger brother Ryan, as well as the complaints of Eric before his death. However, her concerns have merit and when a nighttime intruder disrupts a quiet evening, Lucas is all in.

The mystery surrounds paperwork, provenance, and a priceless antiquity left by her great grandmother that leads to unraveling murders, attempted murders, other break ins, and the Russian mafia. With well drawn characters, picturesque setting, and plot twists galore all I can say is just Wow! All of Ms. Coble’s novels have been well written but this one tops them all! I was so engaged I finished it in one day! I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

MURDER, BETRAYAL, INTRIGUE, AND RESCUE

One of my favorite genres is romantic suspense. Fragile Designs is an excellent example of a novel where the suspense drives the romance. Colleen Coble includes murder, betrayal, and intrigue and provides rescue in the form of homicide detective, Lucas, who is a neighbor of the main character, Carly. Together, they form a bond and forge a common goal to solve the crime committed against Carly. This crime started when her husband discovered and stole an expensive family heirloom and was murdered for it. This novel has a plot that is full of surprises and no one will expect the major tie-in to big crime this heirloom will have!

I was provided a complimentary copy of this novel by Thomas Nelson Publishers and NetGalley. The opinions expressed here are entirely my own and without influence.

Carly Harris had planned to tell her husband that she was pregnant, but arrives home to find that he has been murdered. Eric was a police officer; could his death involve one of his cases? Leaving their home, she and their son Noah move in with her grandmother. During the remodel of her grandmother’s house, she finds what she believes could be a Faberge Egg. Ryan Bennett, their neighbor, is in charge of the remodel and lives next door with his brother Lucas, a detective. When Carly hears someone in the house, she calls Lucas and it ends with the intruder’s death. What was this person after? If it was the egg, how could they have known about it and who else will be coming after it? Carly deals with her sisters’ issues, searches for information about her grandmother’s past and receives disturbing information about Eric. As Lucas vows to keep her safe, the threats continue. Will they eventually solve a seventy-year-old mystery? An exciting, twisted mystery! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

Carly's life is turned upside down when her husband is murdered, but things go still more crazy when, sorting her great-grandmother's old belongings in her grandmother's attic, she uncovers what turns out to be one of the lost Faberge eggs. At first, it's exciting - but as she works to uncover related secrets, it becomes clear that someone is after the egg and will stop at nothing to find or steal it. Lucas never had a very good opinion of Carly after she dumped his brother, but as a cop, he puts aside old feelings when it becomes clear she's being targetted. As things progress, though, he begins to realise just how much is at stake, not only for her, but for his heart. Will they be able to unravel the various mysteries in time? And will Lucas be willing to look past fear to see possibilities?

This felt like somewhat of a change of pace after the author's last series, though I struggled to identify how or why - but I actually enjoyed the change. This is a standalone (I think!) story and I appreciated having everything tied up in one book rather than needing to remember the main threads between books read months apart. I also just enjoyed the story itself. Carly's family dynamics did start off very frustrating, but the resolution was satisfying and definitely added to the story. Some good action and suspense, but never over the top (and no graphic violence) - a definite page-turner with some interesting quirks as well as an enjoyable romance - not to mention cute babies. Recommended.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Wow! Colleen Coke has a winner in thus standalone romantic suspense story. Carly, an antiques dealer, discovers her husband's body when she's on the way to tell him she's pregnant. He was a police officer and his death was chalked up to someone he might have attested who held a grudge.

But as strange things start occurring, Carly, fears that her discovery of a rare Faberge egg is behind the mayhem that's invaded her life. She came to her grandmother's large Victorian home to recuperate after her husband's death and the subsequent birth of their son. She approaches grandma's next door neighbor, a detective and brother to her old boyfriend. Lucas comes to realize Carly is very different from how he imagined.

As they work together to uncover the mystery behind the egg, unearth family connections, and rebuild family relationships they embark on a journey of mystery, suspense, murder, and redemption. I couldn't put the book down all while crying and laughing along with Lucas and Carly. A five star story that you'll want to add to your TBR pile.

Although I received a free ARC ebook from Net Galley and the publisher, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

A plot with twists at every turn. Carly is a collector of family heirlooms, an old chest reveals a family secret and with it a string of unlikely deaths and intrigue. An old letter, a Russian shawl and a colored egg all find there way into this suspenseful story. Colleen Coble and her way with words kept me turning pages.

I have to say this book has it all. Looking for a thriller? You got it. Looking for a mystery? You got it. Looking for some romance? You got it. Looking for family drama? You got it. I loved it. Carly Harris finds her husband dead. He was looking through all her family antiques. She becomes a single mom real fast. She starts to look into the trunk and finds a mysterious piece that looks like an egg painted over. So the story starts. The cop neighbor next door who helps Carly hide her find because it seems like there are quite a few different parties looking to kill for it. The letter that she finds and shows her grandmother. Grandma never knew she was adopted! This suspenseful novel kept me wanting more. The characters were well developed and likeable and the whole story was just too good to put down. I highly recommend this book.
Thanks to #netgalley, #thomasnelson and @collencoble for an ARC of this great thriller.

Richly drawn characters, a compelling plot, a puzzle and a history lesson make this mystery a must read for readers who enjoy romantic suspense with plenty of intrigue.

Carly Harris is living in Beaufort with her grandmother and her young son, Noah, after the murder of her husband. The mysterious death of her husband, Eric, is still unsolved. When Carly's grandmother proposes that they turn the home into a bed and breakfast, Carly is on board. First, she needs to go through things. She is an antique dealer and knows value when she sees it. When she finds a letter from her husband showing that her grandmother was adopted and she has a twin, she is shocked to her core. She also finds a very valuable piece of art that someone will kill to have in their possession. She believes this may also provide some clue as to what happened to her husband.

Her grandmother suggests that she ask for their next door neighbor's assistance. Lucas is a detective who also happens not to like Carly. He feels that Carly broke his brother's heart many years ago. However, he is a good man and a law enforcement officer, so he agrees to assist her in finding out how more about the letter and seeing if it ties into her husband's murder.

Their hunt for more information is going to take them on a dangerous road where no one can be trusted. At the same time Carly is battling two bratty sisters who take advantage of their sister in every way possible. She is a giver, and they are definitely takers. As Carly and Lucas gather more information, the puzzle gets more complex. There are several earth shattering things that come to light while they are working this case together. Jaw dropping information that will leave you with a gaping mouth. Lucas is beginning to realize that Carly is not a bad person. She is actually one of the most giving, unselfish people he has ever met.

Colleen Coble never disappoints me with her mysteries. The plot line of this one was very interesting with a mystery at its core, but I also received a history lesson as well regarding Faberge eggs. Carly was a wonderful character that I would love to have as a friend. Her sisters needed a lesson in manners, which they will soon learn. This was a lesson that sometimes what we learn from our past can enrich our future, even if it is a painful lesson at first. I loved the way this book wrapped up in the end. I was very surprised and pleased as well. This one is well worthy of five stars.

Thank you Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Fragile Designs
Colleen Coble
January 01, 2024

We are in South Carolina. Carly Hayes is returning home from grocery shopping when she sees her husband's truck in the drive. Thinking he is working on cleaning out her workshop, she calls out to him. No answer, she phones him and hears the ring from another corner in the shed. She finds him shot in his back, places a call to 911.
Months later she is living with her grandmother finally working on separating furniture and boxes of items that she will sell at the weekend workshops. She and her tiny son, Noah have tried to make peace with Eric’s murder.
This is a typical pageturner from Coble. The suspense is chilling yet Carly’s family brings the journey together along with their neighbor, Lucas Bennett, a police officer who keeps a close eye on the clan.
Fragile Designs will be published by Thomas Nelson on January 02, 2024. I was lucky to be able to read the ARC via NetGalley. Ms. Coble has always been a favorite mystery writer of mine. This is a new series with a great cast of characters. It’s a great read, one readers should not miss. Enjoy!

Fragile Designs by Colleen Coble is a well written romantic suspense novel with lots of action and many surprising twists. It had a little of everything in it.

The story starts out with the murder of Carly's husband and continues with the mystery about a missing Faberge egg. Is it all connected and who is responsible? Can old relationships be restored and new ones explored? By Carly always putting the needs of others before her own, she shows the depth of her love for them. The book also shows what lengths some people will go to, to satisfy their greed.

This book has wonderful characters and a plot that will keep you reading until the very end. I would recommend this book to everyone.

He’s not there either, so she calls his phone and hears it ringing from back in the corner of the shop. She finds him lying face down on the floor with his shirt soaked in blood. He’s been murdered.

Carly is pregnant and planned on telling him that night.

Fragile Designs, by Colleen Coble, is a well written, easy to read and imagine story. This story is filled with action, suspense, mystery with touches of romance. I especially enjoyed her character, she is strong and giving. She has given so much of herself to her sisters, yet they blame her for things she has not done. I also enjoyed the grandmother and the dreams she has for her home and how to make it able for Carly to work from home. I enjoyed the mystery behind the items in the trunk left to Carly and who was after them and why.

I especially enjoyed how the relationships between Carly, her sisters and Lucas changed and grew as the story unfolded. This is a nice story of forgiveness and second chances.

Ok, so do I really have to tell you how great Colleen Coble's books are? Well, here is my view on this one anyway. Carly Harris has been struggling to survive since the death of her police officer husband. She moves in with her Grandma to regroup and when her Grandma suggests that they remodel the house and make it a bead and breakfast, she reluctantly agrees. Will the new plan help turn her life around and maybe move on after the death of her husband?

✔️a dash of historical fiction
✔️puzzle pieces of a mystery to put together
✔️thrills from dangerous escapades
✔️second chance romance
✔️an old trunk in the attic containing something precious

You’ll love to root for Carly Harris - she’s the heroine who overcomes. She’s had quite a past and present and there are still roadbumps ahead, but her past danger has made her strong and she relies on that strength for courage.

I’ve come to love Colleen Coble’s books because not only am I assured a clean read, but I’m always challenged by the different perspectives she presents. I appreciate the chance to work on empathy and sympathy when I see others facing battles I’ve never faced. I can always count on her books to circle back to the theme of forgiveness - for ourselves and for others. Sometimes it’s just the nudge I need to get out of the rut I’m stuck in personally.

As with each of the five Coble books I’ve read, this one is inspirational, it challenges and entertains and always leaves me with hope.

What a fantastic title!

This book may have been many years in the making but it was worth waiting for, Colleen Coble. I think it may be my favourite one so far!

Carly and Eric Harris' marriage isn't what it should be. Carly doesn't understand the change in her husband. She realizes a lot of stress comes with his occupation as a police officer. Carly has just found out she is pregnant with their first child, and finds Eric dead in her shop from a gun shot. Eric died without ever knowing he was about to be a father. Who killed him and why?

Carly and her infant son are now living with her grandmother as supporting the two of them as an antique dealer isn't profitable enough.

What a surprise when her grandmother decides the big house should be restored and turned into a bed-and-breakfast that Carly can run! Her grandmother wants Carly's two sisters to assist in the restoration of the home, which makes Carly more than a little nervous as her sisters aren't shy about hiding how they feel towards her. Carly just doesn't understand their anger. How will the three of them possibly work together on this huge undertaking?

As Carly is going through things in the attic, she finds a letter written two days prior to her deceased husband's murder. One of the things Eric had discovered was that Carly's grandmother had been adopted. Carly's grandmother didn't even know about this. Also, she had a twin sister! AND, their birth mother had left behind for her baby daughters something of great value and importance. Does that possibly have something to do with Eric's murder?

Carly seeks out the help of a neighbor, Lucas, who is a detective. The more they search for information regarding the artifact they found, the higher the increase of danger to the entire family.

Lots of twists and turns in this story. Wonderful characters. I have enjoyed all Colleen Coble books that I have read, and I have read most of them!

I was given an advanced ecopy by the publisher, Thomas Nelson through NetGalley. I was under no obligation to leave a positive review.

This story pulled me in from the first page to the last. I loved it! The premise was fascinating to me. I don't know a lot about Faberge Eggs, but I've heard about them before. It was interesting to learn a lot more about them and their history. Carly's husband is murdered and she has no idea what is going on. She has to find a way to take care of her infant son so takes him to live with her grandmother who lives in a charming old place that will be renovated into a B & B. Next door lives Lucas and his brother (who used to date Carly when she was a teenager and who Lucas didn't approve of for his brother). Lucas is a homicide detective and although there is a strained relationship with Carly, when dangerous things start happening next door with Carly, he begins to help her from a law enforcement angle. They keep things quiet, however, because Carly has found what she thinks is a Faberge Egg in the attic and that could be worth millions! Carly's sisters are a piece of work also - very selfish and entitled! All of the sudden, Carly is in real danger and the twists and turns begin! The story takes such surprising twists that I was enthralled with all the people and angles involved! I couldn't wait for everything to be solved! I loved Carly and Lucas together too! A wonderful romantic suspense story!

Fragile Designs is an intriguing story of a young widow, Carly, whose police officer husband was murdered. Carly goes to live with her grandmother who begins doing extensive work on her old home to turn it into a bed and breakfast. While going through old family items, Carly finds what she believes may be a lost Faberge egg. Mysterious things begin happening. Homicide detective, Lucas Bennett, has lived next door all of his life and cares for Carly's grandmother who helped mother him after his mother's death but he doesn't care much for Carly. I loved how Carly found relatives that they didn't even know existed and how she tried to show love to everyone! I enjoyed Fragile Designs very much and recommend it to others. I received a complimentary e-book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

"Our lives are so fragile. Maybe it's by design, so we look to God."
Carly's life is more complicated than she anticipated. Raising her son after the death of her husband was unplanned. Trying to solve a family secret recently brought to light proves to be more challenging and dangerous than she expected. Realizing that not everything is as it seems almost pushes her over the edge. Thankfully she has her faith and more support from those who truly care about her.
The focus of the plot is a historical item of value. The cover does provide a bit of a hint, and I think the idea that such a priceless heirloom could be hiding in the attic is certainly fascinating. There is plenty of suspense, family drama and surprises. More than that, there is plenty of faith and forgiveness to guide through tough circumstances. All of this is beautifully woven together to create a fantastic book.
The setting of coastal Carolina provides an interesting place to live. This book also has a strong hint of home & garden television since restoration is involved. There is so much that is pleasing about this book. This book is my favorite Colleen Coble book ever! (And that is saying a lot as I have finished almost all of her books!) Such a creative and fascinating plot with plenty of suspense and surprises!
Thanks to Netgalley for letting me read this book! I wanted to read and review the book. All opinions are my own.

This book was quite fascinating. I enjoyed learning about these historic eggs while also walking through this mystery. Colleen Coble definitely has a knack for making her characters real, giving them opportunity for growth, and drawing out the tension and stress of the crazy as well as the everyday situations that the characters face. I was excited when I saw this book and sad when I finished it. I definitely recommend to anyone looking for a clean but interesting and well-written thriller.

Colleen Coble has penned another suspense not to be missed. As Carly follows the clues that lead to a lost family heirloom, she finds the heirloom not only has monetary value but historical value as well. With many mysterious break-ins and deaths, she finds that she needs help to solve the mystery.

Colleen Coble is not only the queen of romantic suspense, skillful at plot pacing, she also pens realistic characters that have fans routing for them until the final page has been read. She cleverly combines a mystery full of danger with a story of family, forgiveness and love.

I could not put this book down, it was so good and literally had me on the edge waiting to see what was going to happen next. There was one person in the end that I so wanted to know what happened with her, so to be honest it left me wanting so much more from this family. I loved Mary and Carly they had the biggest hearts and really wanted what was best for everyone. This family was small but very mighty. Lucas was so judgey at the beginning however you can see throughout the book what he was that way and how he works through it and you really get to see a side of a character truly grow. His relationship with his brother was so close and they really were there for each other no matter what. The mystery behind the story was so fun and will keep you guessing from the very start. Overall this book was well worth the read and I could not put it down.

If you are in the mood for a roller coaster of emotions in the best way possible, here is your ticket. I can't compliment Fragile Designs enough honestly. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but I was absolutely hooked from the beginning. I immediately fell in love with Carly's character, and Lucas soon after. I found the story revolving around Carly and her family, and their found treasure, so well written and interesting, I couldn't help but to finish this in one sitting. If you like romantic suspense and mystery, I highly recommend.
This was actually my first Colleen Coble novel, and I look forward to more! Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for a copy of this ARC!

This is a beautiful story and I loved it so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my first book by Colleen Coble and it definitely won't be my last

Fragile Designs by Colleen Coble is one of my favorite books that I've read in the past several years. This book has everything from treasure hunting, mystery, romance, family issues to the power of love throughout it all! I can't recommend this book highly enough and I'm sad that it's over for me! Carly Harris is a flea market and antique enthusiast who makes her living selling her amazing finds. One day she returns home and sees her husband's truck in the garage running with the door closed. This is very strange. As she enters the garage and opens the door, she yells for Eric. He's not there and the door leading to the house is open. Carly enters the house calling for Eric, but there's no response. As she makes her way from room to room she doesn't see him anywhere. She looks out in the yard and sees that the door to her shed is open.

Carly heads outside calling for Eric but still there's no response. She smells freshly cut grass and is happy that Eric has mowed the lawn. As she enters the shed she sees boxes have been rearranged and other stuff moved around, but still no Eric. When she walks back into the yard she decides to call Eric. She can hear his phone ringing and it sounds like it's coming from the shed. Carly goes back and hears it ringing from behind a pile of boxes. As she walks towards it, she sees Eric lying facedown with a huge wound in his back. There's blood everywhere. Carly tries to feel for a pulse, but can't feel one. She runs out into the yard and calls 911. The ambulance arrives, but it's far too late for Eric. Someone killed Eric, but why? Who would do such a thing?

Carly was excited to tell Eric that she was pregnant, but she never got the chance. After the funeral Carly moves in with her grandmother. She can't support her and her son on a salary of antiques and flea market finds. Carly's grandmother asks her if she'd be interested in helping her turn the house into a bed and breakfast. Carly says yes and is relieved she'll have a way to make a living while still being able to be home with Noah. Her grandmother wants Carly and her 2 sisters to work on the plans for the renovation. She wants Ryan, the neighbor across the street to do the work. He's like family and his brother Lucas is a detective for the local police force. They've been family friends since the girls were young.

When Carly is up in the attic going through her great grandmothers' trunks that were left to her, she makes a shocking discovery. She finds a letter from her late husband dated 2 days before his murder. Eric had found out that Carly's grandmother was adopted and that she had a twin sister that was adopted by another family. He was making inquiries to find her twin when he was murdered. Could it be related to this information? Why would someone kill over this kind of news? Maybe it wasn't a random burglary after all. As Carly continues to look through the trunk she finds an enamel egg. It's weird because it seems as if someone as painted the egg red to cover its real beauty. Why? Carly takes it to the sink and begins washing it and peeling off the red paint. Carly thinks the egg is a Faberge' and is extremely valuable. Why was it hidden in the trunk? Had Eric found it? Did he know what it was? Was he murdered because of the egg?

As Carly begins to investigate all of this, she asks Lucas, the detective neighbor for help. She doesn't want to get her grandmother involved until she knows that she really does have a twin. Why upset her grandmother if it's not true. The book gets more and more thrilling as you read. The layers to this book are unbelievably compelling and you will love every minute. I rate Fragile Designs 5 stars with my very highest recommendation. I'm so sad that I won't be in this world anymore because it was so much fun! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Harper Collins Christian Publishing for an advanced copy of Fragile Designs in exchange for a fair review. #FragileDesigns

Wow! Colleen Coble hit it out of the park with Fragile Designs!! I’ve read many of Colleen’s books, but this one was stands out from the others (in the best possible way).

There is sooo much drama… Family drama, break-ins, murder—this book has it all! To avoid the risk of spoilers, I’ll just say it’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat until you turn the last page.

The characters are so incredible! Not perfect, mind you, but incredible nonetheless. There are a lot of prejudices and preconceived notions that the characters are forced to make a choice—they can reconcile their differences, or they can continue on their miserable roads. They’re all so complex that I honestly had a difficult time discerning who was trustworthy and who was deceitful, which was a refreshing change; I usually have the “bad guys” pegged from the beginning. This book certainly had me second-guessing my sleuthing abilities!

If you enjoy Christian suspense, you’re sure to love this latest by Colleen Coble! I’m not sure if this is intended to be part of a series, but I earnestly hope so!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Coble is one of my favorite suspense writers. When you have one of her books you know it's going to be interesting and this book Fragile Designs was no exception. I don't know anyone that writes romantic suspense as well as Coble.... A young widow of a police officer has been cleaning out an old house that her grandmother wants her and her sister to turn into a bed and breakfast. She uncovers something concerning her husband that she didn't know about and also something that could be just a novelty but to her it looks like it's the real thing. She once worked in the antique field and recognizes this as the real thing. But of course she must get it authenticated so she keeps silent about it. As she cleans she discovers more mystery and also her life becomes threatened because of her discoveries. This is such a good entertaining suspense as all of Coble's writings are.... My thanks to the publisher and the author for providing a complimentary digital copy via NetGalley and this is my fair and honest opinion.

"Fragile Designs" is the latest stand-alone book from Colleen Coble whose Annie Pederson series I had enjoyed very much. Carly Harris life had turned upside down after the murder of her husband Eric almost over year earlier. Because she was pregnant and had given birth to her baby boy, she is unable to continue her earlier career as an antique dealer. And so, her grandmother with whom she is currently living with, proposes to change her house to a bread-and-
breakfast with the help of Carly's sisters, hoping that it will help Carly get back on her feet.

When she comes across certain unusual documents and objects in her effort to get the house ready for renovation, she enlists the help of Homicide Detective Lucas Bennett, her grandmother's neighbor and Eric's long time best friend, to sort out through the issue. When people connected to the documents get attacked one by one, Lucas and Carly join together to protect Carly's family from the dark forces who won't even hesitate to kill to get what they wanted.

Who is behind the various attacks? Is Eric's murder connected to this strange issue? Will will these events affect the way Carly and Lucas see each other?

Fragile Designs is a banger of a book with an extremely engaging story. All the characters appearing in the story are clearly defined; they are all people we meet in our day to day lives and every one of them have distinctive tasks that help move the narrative forward.

Carly was very likable and I loved the arc her character goes through. The pacing was on- point and there are enough smatterings of thrilling elements to make the story an enjoyable and a totally engaging read. I loved the book and would love to read more of Coble's work.

As a dedicated reader, I immersed myself in "Fragile Designs" by Colleen Coble, a captivating Christian Suspense Romance penned by an author whose work had been highly recommended to me multiple times. The narrative held my interest from start to finish, keeping me engaged with its intriguing storyline. Just when I believed I had unraveled the mystery, unexpected twists surfaced, leaving me pleasantly surprised and thoroughly entertained. For those seeking an enjoyable mystery read that consistently captivates, I highly recommend giving this novel a chance.

Really intense mystery-thriller from Colleen Coble! This is one of my favorites of hers so far, with interesting characters and a family arc for the MC which is worthy of a good contemporary women's fiction as well. I loved the woman-and-her-grandmother relationship in this one and couldn't get enough of it. I also loved how central her baby Noah is to the plot and how he's clearly her number-one priority and comfort.

The romance is step by step and I loved that the guy went to his older married partner for advice on relationship and marriage questions instead of just trying to judge based on his own emotions.

Carly's relationship with her sisters is incredibly complex. They seem to want to be together but they're demanding and self-centered; yet there's clearly a strength below the surface they haven't tapped into. I loved the unpredictability of these relationships and I was glad I didn't predict the outcome correctly.

Overall, a nicely layered story that I couldn't put down and will definitely be rereading.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a free reading copy. A favorable review was not required.

Colleen Coble is so good at romantic suspense. I loved this story. It pulls you right in. I loved the mystery and history aspect of this story. I love Russian history and have always kicked myself that I didn't buy a fake Faberge egg when I visited Russia. They really are beautiful. This story had so many layers and twists and turns. It kept me second guessing. I loved seeing the relationship between Carly and Lucas change and develop. It was really sweet. Carly's growth during this story was beautiful. The story got really intense at times, but it was so good.

Netgalley and Thomas Nelson sent me a copy of Fragile Designs to review:

Carly Harris has been struggling to support herself and her baby since her police-officer husband Eric was murdered. Her career as an antique dealer isn't sustainable, and neither is her dream of becoming a novelist. So when her grandmother suggested they turn the family's large Beaufort home into a bed-and-breakfast, she immediately started clearing it out. By doing so, she uncovers a family secret Eric kept hidden. And an heirloom the wrong person wouldn't hesitate to kill for.

Lucas Bennett isn't big on his neighbor, not since she broke his brother's heart. Lucas can't help but get involved when Carly asks for help because she thinks she's found a Fabergé egg worth millions of dollars that could put her family's lives in danger. Eventually, they're entangled in a mystery with Russian mafia ties.

Lucas is in deep, and while he trusts he can protect Carly and her family, he realizes he is vulnerable to an unexpected kind of danger. There's nothing he can do to stop the freefall. Working together, Carly and Lucas realize they may have found something more valuable than gold. But it's only a matter of time before Carly-or someone she loves-gets hurt.

I give Fragile Designs five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

Colleen Coble is definitely my go-to author for a great book, and she nailed it with Fragile Designs! A romantic suspense with some major family drama certainly makes for a relatable connection with this book. Plus, I share her fascination with Faberge eggs! Fragile Design
Colleen Coble

Carly Harris had just discovered that she was expecting when her husband was murdered. Since Eric's death she's been living with her grandmother. Single parenthood was not something she expected to do, but someone took away her choices. And when her grandmother comes up with a solution for Carly to support herself, turn their home into a bed-and-breakfast, Carly is willing to try. Of course, this means major renovations to their home - que the former boyfriend who just happens to be in construction. No, old feelings aren't rekindled.

But when Carly comes across something that could have a bearing on her husband's murder she turns to Lucas, the brother who didn't think she was good enough for his younger brother. Lucas calls upon his police skills and agrees to help Carly, who surprises him because she's different than he was expecting her to be. What's more he really finds there's a lot about Carly to like.

When Carly and Lucas dig deeper, they discover a long-held secret and a possible reason for Eric's murder. Soon everyone's life is in danger and the deeper they go for answers the closer it gets.

Anyone who has read any of Colleen Coble's Contemporary Romantic Suspense books in the past will not be disappointed in this newest title. There are layers that must be peeled back to discover the truth - a truth that has been hidden for nearly a lifetime. And at the root of everything is family - the ties that bind us together and the secrets that can tear us apart. This is reads as a standalone book but it could easily become a series starter. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes long nights filled with the broken promise of just one more chapter because this is just such a book.

I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book with no expectations but that I provide my honest opinion. All thoughts expressed are my own.

Of course when you start out with two characters who dislike each other, you just know they'll end up madly in love. So there were a few predictable parts but plenty of surprises too. The book is well written with believable characters and a story that pops up on the page and keeps the reader on edge wondering what will happen next.

This was such a fun, easy read and the mystery kept me guessing and intrigued all the way through. I've always found the story of Fabergé eggs to be fascinating and incorporating them into the story made it even more enjoyable. The amount of research Colleen Coble did into their history really showed. She has such an eye for detail and it really makes her stories fun to read. I really enjoyed how the relationships between Carly and her sisters grew throughout the story. Coble really has a talent at writing complex, dynamic family relationships and it's one of the things that I love about her books. I also loved how strong Carly's faith was, even with all she was facing. I really hope this is part of a series because I'd love to get more of this amazing family!

A high stakes suspense, with a full cast of characters, mystery, danger, and earth shattering secrets revealed it's a hard book to put down. I loved the strong themes of faith and family, in the midst of a tension packed adventure.

A fast paced read, that I didn't want to put down. Well balanced read with great pacing, characters, and relationship building with a great focus on faith and family. Suspenseful read that kept me guessing throughout, with plenty of twists along the way. Another solid read from Colleen Coble.

Book is great. I love Ms. Coble is one of my favorite authors.
Carly Harris life gets very complicated, and when she’s left to raise her son by herself it’s not easy.
So much more things come to light after something happens to her husband. She didn’t even know.
That’s when she turns to people he worked with. She even turns to a neighbor that knew her husband well.
It gets really interesting to say the least.

A page turning romantic suspense book about Carly and her family troubles. The element of danger when she finds a priceless heirloom is out of this world. The romance is a slow burn. The family drama with her sisters is chaotic and a deeply complex felt story. I loved this book and devoured it in a few short hours.

Christian suspense genre can seem a bit of an oxymoron, but authors like Colleen Coble deliver successfully. In her newest novel, Coble introduces readers to Carly, a young widow and new mother, who must find her way after her police officer husband is killed, not on the job, but outside their home. As she digs through an old trunk to expedite the sale of her great-grandmother's belongings, Carly finds an oddly painted trinket. Seemingly worthless, Carly cannot dismiss the feeling that it should not be discarded. And then she finds papers that will change the family's life forever. With that paper comes danger at almost every corner. While Carly and her next-door neighbor race to find answers before anyone more is hurt, both feel their lives changing forever. I loved that Coble has filled this novel with plenty of suspects and family conflicts, but also examples of self-less love and second chances. I received a copy of this novel from Netgalley.

I've been a fan of Colleen Coble's books for what seems like forever. There haven't been very many that I haven't read, so when Fragile Designs appeared on NetGalley, I had to request it. Then, I bought it because I enjoyed it so much.

Carly Harris lost her police officer husband, Eric, to an unknown murder just days after she learned she was pregnant with their first child. Struggling to support herself and her infant son, Noah, she moved in with her grandmother. Before her husband died, she worked as an antiques dealer and had aspirations to become a novelist, but those dreams weren't sustainable when she added motherhood to her plate. When her grandmother asks her to go through her great-grandmother's things to prepare them for sale, and then, to work with her sisters to turn her large Victorian home into a B&B, Carly finally gets excited about something again. In the process of clearing the attic, Carly comes across a secret that even her grandmother doesn't know, and she finds what she believes is an unimaginable treasure hidden away in her great-grandmother's trunk.

Homicide detective Lucas Bennett lives next door to Carly's grandmother, and he isn't Carly's biggest fan. He believes she was the cause of the friction in her marriage to his former partner, and that she broke his brother's heart when she dumped him. When she comes to him asking for help, he gets a far different picture of her. Her story of finding a lost Faberge egg, added to the intruder he just shot in her house means his partner's murder might have a different reason than the department believes. As he works with Carly to find out if the egg is authentic, he falls - not only for Carly, but for baby Noah as well. Can he keep them safe when it appears that more than one murderous thug is after the prize?

I, too, have been fascinated by the story of the Faberge eggs, ever since I read the book Nicolas & Alexandra. I can't remember much about the story, since I think I read it more than 40 years ago when I was in high school, but I do remember the eggs. Coble does a great job here of not only informing her readers about their rarity, but also weaving the egg's story into her suspense-filled novel. I listened to this on my Libby app, but reading it was also great.

Readers who enjoy romantic suspense, will love this engrossing story.

I am a long time fan of Colleen Coble and this new title does not disappoint! I truly enjoyed reading this book with elements of love, suspense, and mystery. This book kept me guessing and the pages flying through my hands (metaphorically, of course, I was reading on a Kindle). This is definitely a book that I would recommend to friends and to Colleen...keep more coming!

Thanks to NetGalley for a review copy of this excellent title!
