This was a great book that I highly enjoyed. I like making jewelry in my off time when I’m not working at the library so this was a great book for me to acquire. Lots of different projects, clear easy to understand instructions, and great pictures as well. I think if you are an experienced jewelry maker or starting out you will be pleased.

While there are no end of possible jewelry choices pretty much everywhere to buy, sometimes it’s fun to create your own that shows your taste and personality. Tammy Powley’s very useful Jewelry Making for Beginners shows you how with detailed information about the variety of gadgets you’ll need to create earrings, necklaces, and bracelets. The author provides listings for what gadgets are necessary for each project and what would be nice to have to make things a little easier but which are not necessary.
She provides step-by-step instructions with pictures to create several projects as well as specific techniques . I could definitely see myself making some of the earrings. They look sophisticated and not like beginner projects at all.
I found the section using polymer clays to be very interesting with stunning results achieved with what seem like basic techniques.
While I realize that everything is Googled anymore, I think it might have been nice to see a section listing possible resources for purchasing beads, clays, etc. as recommendations by people who actually know what they’re doing is always helpful. Regardless, this book would be a definite asset for anyone starting out who would like to be walked through several projects and know what they need for future ones.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was a great book for easy-to-make jewelry for a beginner and even for an advanced jewelry maker. I particularly like the designs for the earrings as those are my favorite thing to make, wear and give as gifts.
I was thrilled to find Tammy Powley's "Jewellery Making for Beginners" because I like to make things and am starting to like making jewellery. This book did what it said it would do, giving step-by-step steps and easy ways to make beautiful jewellery. Whether you want to learn how to make jewellery for the first time or want to improve your skills, this book can help.
One thing that makes this book stand out is how easy it is to read. The author makes sure that each project's steps are clear and easy to understand, so that even a beginner like me can follow along. The bright pictures for each step were a game-changer. They helped me understand the skills quickly and start making jewellery with confidence.
Tammy Powley talks about many different ways to make jewellery, such as stitching, wirework, metalwork, enamel, and polymer clay. The projects range from easy seed beading to more complicated forms, dangles, chokers, strings, bangles, rings, and earrings made from polymer clay. Because the projects are so different, there is something for everyone, no matter how skilled they are or what they like.
As I read the book, I liked that it had a list of all the things I would need to set up my jewelry-making room. Also, the ideas for giving designs a personal touch were a nice touch that made me want to give each project my own special touch.
The book also has a list of things to do and things not to do. This helps readers avoid making expensive mistakes and gives quick fixes for possible mistakes. This was very helpful because it gave me the courage to try new things and learn from any mistakes I made along the way.
One reviewer said that there wasn't a part about where to buy beads, clay, and other supplies. I know that a simple Google search can be enough, but it would have been helpful to get some suggestions from expert jewellers who know where to find good materials.
"Jewellery Making for Beginners" has been a great addition to my art bookshelf as a whole. I can't wait to try out the book's many projects, especially the elegant earrings that caught my eye. The best part was learning how to use polymer clays, which showed how even simple techniques can lead to beautiful results.
I highly suggest this book to anyone who wants to learn how to make jewellery, whether you are just starting out and want to learn the basics or you are an expert jeweller looking for new ideas and inspiration. "Jewellery Making for Beginners" will help you get started making jewellery, whether you want to make money or just enjoy making beautiful items.
