Description
Ideal for young readers aged from seven to nine, the first instalment The Deserted Cottage centres on the friendship and trust between a young robin called Raymond and his best friend, Bonnie, a bluetit. Illustrated in colour, this delightful story explains in often comical ways that whilst it’s fine to try and solve things on your own, it is also OK to seek help when necessary. A sequel to Adventures with Raymond and Bonnie: The Deserted Cottage is planned.
A Note From the Publisher
No matter how old you get, you need a good friend.
Living in rural Billsborough County, a young robincalled Raymond and his best friend Bonnie,
a blue tit, get into all sorts of adventures but they
stick together and lean on each other’s strengths. In 'The Deserted Cottage', we see the young pals waking with the firm intention of spending another day having fun. They often visit nearby Fir Cottage where they can expect fresh food and water provided by kind old Mr Digweed. One snowy December day, Raymond and Bonnie fly the short distance to the cottage only to find it deserted with no sign of food and water. And ... Mr Digweed. is nowhere to be seen. Perplexed, and worried about the kind old man, their normally safe and peaceful environment is then threatened by the arrival of two suspicious-looking strangers with less than friendly intentions. Who are these intruders, and what, exactly, do they want? Far from being fun, this turned out to be a very challenging day that the little feathered chums will never forget.
'The Deserted Cottage', illustrated in colour, is
aimed at young readers aged seven to nine and is the first of a series of 'Adventures with Raymond and Bonnie' stories planned by debut author, John Williams.

Five Star NetGalley Review by
Deanne P - January 2023
Raymond and Bonnie are best friends, and they are also birds. Living in the rural countryside they have a simplistic and routine life.
It is wintertime and food, and water are not easily accessible to them as it may be covered in snow and the running streams frozen over. They have no worries about this because all the birds around know about kindly old Mr. Digweed. He always provides for all the birds needs. When several days have passed and he has not been home or provided food and water the birds start to worry. When they see a break in at the old Mans' house they aren't sure how to help. They do though by banning together with all the other birds and solve the problem. They are so happy to see their friend return home.
Delightfully illustrated. This is a lovely book to read to your children teaching them that it's okay to try to solve things on your own but it's also alright to ask for help to solve a problem.
Highly recommended for children.

Four Star NetGalley Review by

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A great book about friendship, though it is better for older kids as there is a lot of text.
