As much as I love Thai food, I am highly allergic to the ubiquitous CILANTRO (and parsley) that shows p in almost every dish … so I like to make it myself. I have taken a few Thai cooking courses and actually prefer this book over the recipes we made there: they are well written so cooks of all levels can understand the steps and they make each recipe seem easy to make.
The photos were incredible and like China and its 15+ regions and 15+ different styles of cooking, this goes into Thailand’s different local cuisines as they are marvellously different. A great book to give to a college student so they save money on take out and delivery…or yourself if you are guilty of that crime.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for my copy of The Thai Cookbook by Editors of Chartwell Books in exchange for an honest review. It publishes November 7, 2023.
In the world of cookbooks, I haven't come across very many that represent Thailand, so I found this book to be a gold mine! This is full of wonderful photographs, and mouthwatering recipes! Definitely give this a go if you're looking to expand your cooking horizons! It would also make a fabulous gift!
What a delight to flip through this wonderful Thai Cookbook. The pictures are so vivid and the descriptions of each dish is such a welcome surprise. I was salivating just looking at the delicious dishes presented and will definitely purchase a copy of this book when it becomes available.
So many mouth watering dishes and are presented in a way that I am sure I will be able to dish up some great treats for my family.
I particularly love the informative pictures at the end of many recipes with tips.
Thanks so much to Netgalley, Quarto Publishing Group - Chartwell Books for the opportunity to read and review this book.
My wife and I were fortunate enough to have had a Thai exchange student spend a year with us. And come back, along with her family, for further visits. One of the best perks of having her live with us was her incredible ability as a chef. She made us so many delicious meals! From the dishes of her Bangkok home, to ones from her ancestral home near Chang Mai, we experienced dishes and flavors that were completely unknown to us. AND...when we would visit local Thai restaurants, she would order off the "special" menu that seemed to be available to native Thai speakers...and with the instruction that the food be prepared not in the "American way" (sweet) but in the authentic Thai way.
Anyway, since she has been gone we really miss her, and her cooking. I was really surprised when I received this ARC, as it reignited our memories of many of the dishes she prepared. The book is well written, very well photographed, and easy to follow. It has a wide variety of recipes. We have tried several already.
We have shared photos of our dishes with our Thai student via video chat, and she has given her stamp of approval. What better endorsement of a cookbook could one possibly ask for!
The Thai Cookbook: More than 80 delicious recipes, regional styles, and flavors

The photographs in this book a beautifully done. They complement the recipes and encourage the reader to turn on the stove. When I purchase a cookbook, I do so for the recipes. A cookbook that has more pages devoted to explaining why they wrote the book and where the recipes came from and the history behind everything is NOT what I’m looking for. This cookbook has the perfect balance between recipes, photos and information.
The very first recipe in this book is Prawns in a Blanket; the photograph had my mouth watering. Shrimp, garlic, and ginger all wrapped in a spring roll sheet, then fried until golden brown. This recipe serves 4…ha ha not if I beat everyone to it.
The Chicken Stay makes 40 sticks. After marinating the chicken then thread it on a bamboo stick. Heat your grill to high. Barbecue for 10 minutes on each side.
There are plenty of other recipes: Grilled Fish, salads, sauces, stir fry, and desserts. There are several I intend to try. I have been looking for a recipe for a salad containing: thinly sliced been, noodles, cucumbers, and lettuce all stir fried. I had the salad a long time ago and loved it but have never been able to locate the recipe. Unfortunately, it is not in this cookbook either.
This is a great cookbook, and you will want a copy to add to your collection.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a review copy. My reviews are always my unb
Love this book!. The pictures, the history, the recipes.. oh my! The first few pages of the book include the history of Thai cooking and some interesting factoids from today including regional cooking. Chapters include the regulars such as soups and salads and also street food, curries, noodles etc.. and each chapter starts with a mini-lesson of that category.
If you are going to cook from this book, (but it is legit to just get it for the pictures), you may want to take a trip to an Asian grocery for some of the recipes. There are some simpler recipes but in addition to 'mainstream' Asian cooking ingredients such as ginger and bean sprouts and fish paste, there are a few recipes that include things like also lime leaves (kaffir), preserved radish and bird's eye chilies. But I think many of the recipes can likely be made with a bit of scouring around your local grocery or googling substitutions.
In my opinion, all cookbooks should have ample pictures and this one does not disappoint. I can't wait to try out all the delicious recipes.
I was given a copy of the book by the publisher, but not required to write a positive review.
This book is excellent, I loved that it showcases Street food! It’s the best way to eat when traveling and exploring a different country and cultures. I enjoyed the recipes, the stories, and pictures. Can’t wait to to start cooking! Thank you to the publisher and author for a wonderful copy.
The photographs in this book look so delicious I could eat the pages! I found many outstanding recipes, like spicy lobster and pineapple curry and fried rice with pineapple to traditional pad Thai and coconut ice cream. I would recommend this book to add to our current recipe book collection, as it is an inspirational food read and definitely full of flavors to experience.
My husband and I LOVE Thai food and this cookbook is a dream. Easy to read, explained well, beautiful pictures. Can’t wait to try some of these recipes!!
I loved browsing this cookbook! The photographs are absolutely beautiful and enticing. The recipes themselves seem easy to follow, and most ingredients looked familiar from my local grocery stores and Asian markets. I'm most excited to try out the mango sticky rice and won ton soup!
The photographs in this cookbook make you instantly want to cook the food. The recipes are very clearly and easy to follow. A book that I will keep dipping into
Lovely looking and tasty recipes based on easily accessible ingredients although pandan and banana leaves might prove a problem here in SW Scotland!. Straightforward recipes covering the main sorts of dishes - soups, fish, meat, vegetables, desserts. Measurements in metric with imperial in brackets. The end section of curry pastes, basic sauces and so on is very useful and will let a more adventurous cook make their own modifications easily. There are interesting and relevant notes about the different cultural aspects of Thai food but not such as to detract from the recipes. The recipes are mostly quick to prepare which might just encourage people who "don't have time to cook" to have a go - tasty, quick and better for you to DIY food! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.
the pictures in this book are enticing, the recipes are clear and easy to follow, without requiring too many special ingredients. I loved that there are also other pictures included of the streets and shops. I am excited to try the recipes in this book!
Thanks to Netgalley and Quarto publishing for access to this Arc in exchange for my honest review.
I loved the photos in this book, making me travel to Thailand and the food looks so yummy. I don't eat a lot of ingredients (due to health issues), but if you don't have any allergies or health issues, you'll probably be drooling on the pictures and want to try the recipes.
A wonderful book featuring Thai dishes accompanied by stunning photographs, not only of the dishes, but also around Thailand especially food related. Inspirational recipes, easily followed and reasonably easy to pick up the ingredients being nothing too strange and available in main UK supermarkets. A good selection of recipes which I shall certainly be trying a few out on the family who all adore the deliciously fragrant Thai cuisine.
