Description

Social worker Caleb Knowles finds himself in the heart of a firestorm of racial tensions and violence in downtown Columbia, SC. When he interviews young Laquan Harwell, the truth behind Laquan’s crime becomes clear – it was born from years of racial mistreatment. However, Laquan’s assault on a white storekeeper lights the match that sets the town on fire: a hate crime sparks protests. Protests erupt into riots.

Downtown becomes a war zone.

The murder of a racist police officer further fuels the violence, and Caleb is deeply entangled in a desperate search for justice. As the riots escalate, Caleb’s brother Sam is injured, leading Caleb to take rash actions that put his career on the line.

As he uncovers the truth about the police officer’s death, Caleb’s efforts to save a client thrust him into the eye of the storm and endanger his life. Will justice prevail, or will the hate-spawned violence take more lives?

Part thriller and part social commentary, Justice Be Done deftly explores the visible and invisible agendas that often combine to leave innocent victims in its wake. Damron again proves her skill at weaving fine storytelling around the most important issues confronting us today. Justice Be Done is a stunning addition to the Caleb Knowles series.

--Stephen G. Eoannou, author of Yesteryear (2023), Rook (2022), and Muscle Cars (2015).

Told through the lens of Caleb, a social worker, and a cast of related characters—a female cop with a racist partner, a gun manufacturer with an interest in buying political power, a group of artists trying to ease race relations—Damron masterfully weaves a story of good versus evil, hard-working people dedicated to human dignity, and the importance of standing up for what’s right.

--Beth Uznis Johnson, author of Coming Clean (2023)

Justice Be Done combines strong characters, volatile politics, and fine storytelling to create a contemporary suspense that grabs your heart. Set in Columbia, SC, Damron shines the light of understanding into the darkness of fear, mistrust, and injustice.

--James M. Jackson, author of the Seamus McCree thriller series

This unputdownable book is not just exciting suspense, but a commentary on the attitudes that divide people, no matter where they live. The author weaves compassion through the pages, to make the reader think hard about issues, without ever preaching or forgetting that readers like to be entertained.
