Description
What’s the “secret sauce” to Supercharged Communications? Can it be quantified? Can it be taught? More than that, as a leader, who are you? What are the values you project―not just in the workplace but 24/7?
David Schreiner, Ph.D., spent years researching and speaking to executives and people in large organizations across the country to try to discover just that. The good news is he uncovered three essential elements to communication:
- Engage and connect at a personal level.
- Engage with intent through various mediums.
- Be mission-focused through united leadership.
He also pinpointed fifteen effective strategies―principles and concepts you could begin to apply to your organization today. He created a platform of Supercharged Communications he could use as a CEO in the healthcare industry―but that could be applied no matter the sector, no matter the circumstances.
Utilizing the technique of Appreciative Inquiry―and a real and personal desire to connect with others, David Schreiner has embraced authentic leadership and distilled its best practices. Research-based and actionable, Schreiner invites the reader on a personal journey to get at the very heart of their organization―and the communications principles that can ensure readers are the best part of the day for the people they encounter.

"Every day, I see how positive communication energizes people, from sharing bright spots, to storytelling, to just saying thank you. David Schreiner gets it. Be the Best Part of Their Day is a powerful statement on looking at the world through the lens of what’s right rather than what’s wrong. Right from his book’s title, Schreiner reminds us of the difference we can make in people’s lives when we choose to approach them with a mindset of abundance, appreciation, and love. Wow, this book is an absolute gem! It truly resonated with me as it skillfully guided me
through navigating the intricacies of workplace interactions, whether with coworkers or
customers. The author, a seasoned CEO at a hospital, generously shared a wealth of personal
experiences and invaluable tips on effective management. His emphasis on treating everyone
with respect and fostering a positive communication style left a lasting impression. Having
enjoyed the audiobook, you can clearly hear his passion for this topic.
Wholeheartedly embracing the notion that kindness and respect create a positive ripple effect,
I found this book to be more than just a guide—it's a beacon illuminating the transformative
power of positivity in the professional realm. Consistently, I strive to treat others with the
same kindness I wish to receive.
I enthusiastically recommend this book to anyone seeking insights on creating a positive work
environment. It's not just an easy read; it's a swift journey to the heart of impactful workplace
dynamics.
A huge thanks to NetGalley for generously providing me with an advanced copy of the
audiobook in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the audio ARC of Be the Best Part of Their Day.
This book should be required reading for anyone who runs a company, manages others, or has contact with the public in any form! These concepts are a class in Positive Human Interaction 101.
The author is the CEO of a hospital and writes from that perspective, but the basic principles he outlines can be applied to any industry. My biggest takeaways from this book were: view everyone in the company as important and treat them as such, be authentic, and be transparent. All of these seem fairly basic and straightforward, but are often overlooked or disregarded, especially by managerial or C-suite level employees. The author lays out why these concepts are an important foundation of good communication (he brands it as "super charged communication"), how they contribute to a positive work environment, proof that they work, and the science behind why they work.
Remember the old saying "it's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice"? This book is an in-depth look at the truth to that statement and how it can become a culture at your company.
As I said before, I would recommend this book in paper or electronic form. I would recommend the audiobook only if you can ignore the fact that the narrator sounds like he has a cold.
I'm not sure if I feel like this is really new material, but it's all solid, the anecdotes are clear, and the presentation is good. It's a good perspective, though, to decide to keep track of your mission, evaluate what you're doing, and be the best part of their day.
The one new thing for me was at the end, using AI to improve communications. There are some ways you can make everyone's life easier by using AI for things you don't want to waste people on, and you should never use AI when you need a human connection, which is going to happen a lot.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me listen to this
