Description
Before he can become a man, he must first learn to kill...
London, 1770s: Meet Jack Absolute, a handsome young man, loved by the ladies and envied by his schoolmates. With a place secured in college at Cambridge, his future seems bright. But one debaucherous night destroys Jack's fortune instantly and he is forced to seek a new fate in the dangerous New World. There, amid hostile Indians and the brutal wilds of North America, he struggles for something far more vital than riches: his survival. But in order to survive, Jack must be blooded. He must learn to kill. The Blooding of Jack Absolute tracks the stunning transformation of a young dreamer into a daring, larger-than-life hero.
A Note From the Publisher
It was his portrayal of Jack Absolute in Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s play, ‘The Rivals’, that inspired Humphreys to take the dashing captain from stage to page in a series of new adventures as the “007 of the 1770s.”
“I think I do have that actor’s sense of the dramatic and the visual,” Humphreys said. “And there’s a part of me always thinking: I must give the actor (character) something to play here. Strong people making strong choices – it’s very dramatic.”
Humphreys has written seven historical fiction novels including The French Executioner, which was runner up for the CWA Steel Dagger for Thrillers 2002. Its sequel, Blood Ties, was a bestseller in Canada. The Jack Absolute series will feature three books, Jack Absolute, The Blooding of Jack Absolute and Absolute Honour. Humphreys is also the author of Vlad: The Last Confession and A Place Called Armageddon. As Chris Humphreys he has written a trilogy for Young Adults ‘The Runestone Saga’.
Humphreys was born in Toronto, lived until he was seven in Los Angeles, then grew up in the UK. All four grandparents were actors, his Norwegian grandfather, Karl Holter, also being a successful writer. His grandfather, Cecil Humphreys, was in movies such as Sir Laurence Olivier’s ‘Wuthering Heights’, while his father Peter Humphreys guested on several TV shows in the early 60’s.
