Description
From the smallest seed to the tallest tree, everything in nature has a purpose. Learn where to find the planet-preserving wildlife that’s right on your doorstep.
Go on your very own Eco Quest and discover nature’s heroes in your own neighborhood. With this complete guide to what’s around you, discover amazing plants, animals and habits in your local parks, gardens and green spaces.
Can you find some lichen on a wall or tree? Some earthworms in the ground? A dandelion growing through a crack in the pavement?
Each page explains how these everyday nature heroes play a part in the ecosystem, and how we can help preserve them for generations to come.
This book contains a variety of exercises to help kids learn about wildlife, ecosystems and the planet, including:
- Can be used as an open-ended guide to nature walks in your own area.
- Contains easy makes and activities that help support the nature heroes, such as turning a bucket into a mini water butt, or planting a sunflower to provide food for insects and birds.
- Will help young ramblers understand how each element in nature works together, and how they have a role to play too!
Perfect for families looking to turn a simple nature walk into a fascinating journey of discovery. This is a colorful and fun book to be tucked under the arm on adventures, whether urban or countryside.

This was a super engaging and important book! I loved the way this book was informative but not overwhelming, it was broken down into bitesize pieces and accompanied with beautiful artwork.
The diversity in the book is also something I want to call out as something I really appreciated. I think it’s so important to embrace diversity and this book did so perfectly.
As another reviewer mentioned, I think the only thing I would raise as a comment is the US English vocabulary - of course this isn’t anything detrimental but thought it may be worth pointing out. :)
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for granting access to this wonderful book in exchange for my honest review.
i thought this book was fun and educational for children. I enjoyed the illustrations and I thought they were very creative. I would buy this for a child in my life.

Thank you!
What a fantastic story that teaches children the importance of things such as water conservation, the importance of certain plants, how to help birds and other animals and how everything in nature has a purpose.
I think this is a must read for all children as it carries such an important message about how we can help our planet. It’s never too early to teach your little one.
I feel this could be one they read independently or they could be read to as this would certainly open up discussions.
I had a flick through this before sharing with my kids and thought it looked very basic. The activities didn’t look much fun (create a rain collector by putting a bucket outside…) but I was wrong. My kids aged 3 and 5 love ranger Hamza and his TV shows but also from Strictly so they were committed. They actually loved how basic the activities were as there was nothing that seemed over complicated or tricky for them and we could use things we have around the house. They want to go on a eco quest every time we go for a walk now and are thinking like little Hamza’s which is so lovely. Highly recommend for infant years age children.
A book for everyone to encourage thinking and making things better for the planet. Saving water with a rain barrel, becoming a weed champion (instead of the use of chemicals), learning to do small things that will help birds, small animals, trees, worms, seaweed, and sunflowers. Learn to keep eyes open for ways to help nature!
The illustrations by Kate Kronreif are clear, imaginative, colorful, and informative and FUN.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your local public library! Books on IVY Kids are planet friendly.
