Description
He wasn’t banking on someone else taking the reins…
Lady Estelle Foxbrooke is done cleaning up the mess left by her wild parents. She’s got a plan: take the reins and save the family estate her way. But then she’s saddled with a business partner she’s hated all her life. He’s her twin brother’s worst enemy and looms in her path like a six-foot-four hurdle.
After a catastrophic business failure, rich and successful James Hunter-Savage has watched his dream life in London crash and burn. Forced to ditch the city for the Somerset countryside, he’s now living with his parents and expected to work with the infuriatingly attractive Estelle. She’s sharper than a whip, pushes all his buttons, and seems determined to break him.
As Estelle and James jockey for position, their explosive personalities combust into passion, sending Estelle’s plans to the edge of ruin. With James’s flimsy reputation in tatters, and the biggest event on the Foxbrooke calendar on the brink of collapse, will they realise their love is worth fighting for? Or are their hearts and hard work heading for the ultimate fall?
The Upper Crush is a laugh-out-loud, enemies-to-lovers, steamy, standalone, smalltown romantic comedy with a fiery country girl giving a cocky city boy a run for his money from multi-award-winning author, Evie Alexander. No cheating or cliffhanger, but snort-laughs, swoons and a deliciously happy ending guaranteed in this sparkling and sizzling romcom!
Please note - The Upper Crush is book 3 in the Foxbrooke series but is a perfect standalone. You do not have to have read the first two books in the series to understand and enjoy this one!
Advance Praise
"The Upper Crush is chock-full of hilarious passive-aggressive antics, slow-burn tension, and off-the-charts steam. The undercurrent of emotions, slowly peeling away the protective layers Estelle and James armored themselves in for so long… ugh, my heart. I won't even include all my highlights, because I don't want to spoil the experience. Plus, all the Foxbrooke's and friends we've come to adore joining in on all the chaos and laughter are the perfect addition to this enemies-to-lovers rom-com romp!" - Katie, Goodreads
"This book was a slow burn, enemies forced to work together in close proximity with fiery chemistry, witty banter and hysterical pranks. It was difficult to put down and not to become emotionally involved with Estelle and James and the outcome of the Foxbrooke festival. Because it is cleverly told via dual POV it becomes easier to like both Estelle and James despite each of their misperceptions about the other and hope for their HEA. Add in her adorable pups, obnoxious slippers, "gifts" to him and ridiculous pranks and the book is LOL funny. But once they give into their chemistry it is also "five red hot chili peppers" of steam worthy - oh my!" - Lisa Benison, Goodreads
"Evie’s books are always such a laugh out loud and spicy treat! I was laughing so much as I was reading along. You get spice, angst, conflict, humor, and a stellar storyline! This story was so enjoyable and entertaining from start to finish. Her writing is so vivid I could picture every scene and interaction in my mind. The enemies to lovers trope is done so epically well in this book. There is so much tension and angst between Estelle and James. I loved all of the building tension and the flirty banter! The spicy scenes are oh so spicy and I couldn’t get enough of them together! I didn’t want the story to end because I was so obsessed with the characters and enjoyed every moment in Foxbrooke. I loved the ending, and I can’t wait for the rest of the books in the series!!!" - Lindsey, Goodreads
"Evie Alexander just keeps getting better and better. This is her best book yet! This story is full of heart, humour, main characters you'll fall in love with, and a deliciously page-turning plot (with plenty of steam). I couldn't put it down. Thanks, Evie, for giving me several hours of unadulterated pleasure. Get it. Read it. Love it." - Merren Tait, Goodreads
"I love this author! This is book 3 in the series, and could technically be read as a standalone, but most of the characters, including the main female lead, are in the first 2 books. What do you do when you literally fall into the arms of the most hunky man you've ever seen.... only to find out that it's your twin brother's arch nemesis. Lady Estelle Foxbrooke has the hots for her yoga teacher, but he's clearly not interested. Now she's being forced to work with James Hunter-Savage, who is an absolute hunk, but is off limits due to the situation with her twin brother. She decides she will be horrible to him so he backs out of the partnership for the festival that she had dreamed of putting on. But while she's working with James, she learns a lot about him. Maybe he isn't so bad after all. As James and Estelle fight for control of the festival, and fight their attraction to each other, you won't want to stop turning the pages!" - Heather, Goodreads
"This book had all of the funny quips I've come to expect from Evie Alexander, and as always, still has so much heart. With this latest installment in the Foxbrooke series we finally see Estelle win her HEA. The banter between James and Estelle is top notch, perfect for the enemies to lovers vibe. I adored the little jokes they play on each other to try and get under each others skin. The best part of this whole book though was seeing what was behind James Hunter Savage, seeing the insecurities, meeting his family, and finally getting an explanation as to why he is the way he is. And the spice, the spice was PERFECTION. I really liked how the first night they spent together was told through James’ POV. I feel like in romance books so many encounters are told through the woman’s perspective that it was refreshing and different to get the whole situation from the male POV. And it was HOT!" - Elizabeth, Goodreads
"Estelle Foxbrooke hates James Hunter-Savage. To be fair, most readers of this series so far probably aren't that keen on him either. It takes some proper writing chops to redeem a character that has been so blatantly dislikeable, and this book succeeds in that endeavour with wit and refreshing originality. I never thought James would end up being one of my favourite male characters from this author... but there you go. I'm converted. Although possibly not as much as Estelle...
This is a slow burn of a story out of necessity, because it builds up their relationship from scratch. I loved the lengths Estelle went to to annoy James (particularly the hand-crafted gifts), and her sheer stubbornness when almost everyone else (both human and animal) starts warming to him. Her internal conversations on the subject were giggle-worthy. When it does catch fire, though... whew! Steam rising off the Kindle, practically. Aside from the central relationship, there are plenty of cameos from other Foxbrooke characters (it wouldn't be the same without Arthur's shenanigans) and clearly much more to come. This has become one of those captivating, get-lost-in-their-world kind of series, and long may it carry on delivering the heat and the humour." - Sarah, Goodreads
"Another trip to Foxbrooke and this might be my favorite one! Spicy and sweet are the first words that I thought of while reading this book. Estelle and James have a sexy slow burn thing going on and I'm here for it! The bickering and the transition from enemies to lovers is so satisfying. This is a standalone but it is nice to read about characters that we have become familiar with." - Evelyn, Goodreads
"Wow, I could not put this down! I was not expecting this story, after all, James was quite the villain from the previous books. What a clever, clever storyteller knowing that James could be redeemed. Their love story, although a slow burn, was worth every page. Their dynamic was amazing, with creative banter and steamy scenes. There is something special about someone who is a good person but has made some really bad choices, learning how to right those wrongs and move forward into love. I think it is probably a difficult thing to take a character that has created so much animosity and bring forth a story a love from that, but this author has succeeded with great aplomb. I had so much fun with this book!" - Tami, Goodreads
"Well, I've literally just finished this book and my heart is still racing. So sizzlingly hot! This author’s works just get better and better!
The plot of this book was complex with quite serious matters coming into play with the many light-hearted elements and all intermingling together nicely.
The sex as ever is gloriously well written, not for prudes, it's quite graphic and erotic and so very hot.
I like that The Upper Crush is written from both points of view of our two heroes and you get to know what they are thinking and some of their insecurities.
I've really enjoyed this book and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to you to read." - Sarah Hills, Goodreads
