Description
A unique and haunting preface to a kick-ass dystopian thriller of alien/human devotion, love, greed, human depravity and the wonder of family and wildlife. A roller coaster of emotions. A story that stays with you long after you are done.
Baby is the name given to an injured creature found in the woods by Netty, an abused woman from the 1920's Prohibition, bringing prophetic changes to her small world that will end with brutality and start her journey to save the planet's wildlife.
Advance Praise
This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. Very few books have the ability to surprise me these days. Baby continually surprised me with twists and turns. And I fell in love with the main characters! It's unlike anything else I have read. I will read and re-read it for many years to come.
I fell in love with Baby from the moment we met. Pure love and light and beauty and healing...he is guileless and unassuming and everything we need more of in this world. Netty is a sweet, innocent girl from a poor family who finds herself entangled in a mess of meanness, greed, and cruelty. And then along comes Baby and fixes everything, sort of. ;) You'll also meet Will...handsome, hardworking, helpful - he has that boy-next-door appeal and can fix or build just about anything. He's my second favorite character.
The book is well-written, engaging, powerful, and addictive (thankfully, there
is a book two and book three). The dialogue is realistic, the plot moves along
nicely, the surprises around every corner are delightful or disastrous -
depending on the scene, and the characters are likable, or in some cases -
truly dreadful (which is to say, you will love to hate them).
The story covers history, paranormal, sci-fi, and romance. It's jam-packed with
readable morsels. I got addicted almost immediately and couldn't put it down.
I recommend this book for YA and up, though there are a few violent scenes, so
be aware of that. Now on to book two.
