Description
BEHIND THE SCENES IN TALK TELEVISION
A satirically edged portrait of telecast news, Network Apprentice exposes the deceptions embedded in a cruel myth that threatens America: the belief that Americans are entitled to live in an affordable, riskless society and that our government should, can, and will provide it.
As the legendary twentieth-century sage Pogo once said, "We have met the enemy and he is us".
Follow Julie Anders as she navigates the complexities of earning a master's degree in Broadcast Journalism and enduring a frustrating apprenticeship at MRABC, where she's in continuous conflict with her Network Brass. Her journey surprisingly turns when she finally receives the recognition she deserves at Rocky Mountain PBS. Challenging adventures of delight take Julie to amazing places: the backcountry of Yellowstone Park, the Devil's Causeway in the Flattops of Colorado. On a later journey to the Causeway's non-secular polar opposite at Angels Landing in Zion, initial delight reverses and confronts her with deep despair.
This bold novel challenges many currently popular beliefs. It may be the first book in contemporary fiction with a Grizzly bear claiming its opening scene and most of chapter one.
A Note From the Publisher
Hubbard's life has been dedicated to public service, spanning two years in the military, 32 years as a CPA managing the largest audit practice in the mountain west, and 20 years serving as Director and Board Designated Financial Expert for two public companies. Additionally, he has held roles as Director or Trustee for twelve educational and civic organizations.
Embracing the allure of high mountains at age 65, Hubbard has conquered 29 of Colorado's 14ers and explored 25 of Scotland's Munros. On his more grounded days, he enjoys flyfishing with his loyal companion, Cholla, a golden retriever.
Adding to his impressive journey, Hubbard has also been to a podium deep in the heart and soul of Wall Street to help ring the bell that opens the New York Stock Exchange.
