Description
The day Olivia Cole’s brother Tyler vanishes from the farm, her family is ripped apart. Unwilling to accept that he’s gone, she decides it is up to her to find him.
Two years later, scouring the farm for clues, Olivia and her best friends Penny and Eddy discover some peculiar silver flowers. While observing them, Olivia is outraged when she finds her bully, Amanda, has been spying on them. Before she can confront her, all four are swallowed by a vortex of blazing light.
Moments after arriving in the mysterious world of Sumera, Olivia spots a metallic ball, the Silver Seed. She scoops it up, unaware of its immense powers to create pathways to other worlds.
Refusing to stick with Olivia, Amanda storms off into an ominous forest, straight toward the sinister Queen Sasha, who intends to interrogate her, forcefully if needed, for the location of the Silver Seed. She requires it to banish all who don’t obey her rule.
As Olivia journeys across Sumera, evading the queen’s most loyal servant, Shakta, she grows hopeful that Tyler has been transported to Sumera, too.
Aided by the alliance, she searches for him, crossing the turbulent sea toward Supool, up the perilous Relic of Zendia, and over the frozen ground approaching Flow. She must set her fears aside and become the leader she was always meant to be. Tyler needs her. Her friends need her. Sumera needs her, too.

A book you just can’t put down!
The adventures of Olivia plunged me into a mesmerizing world of wonder, danger, and brilliant creatures. As a shroud of mystery surrounds her brother’s disappearance, our hero, alongside her best friends, takes the matter into her own hands, leading them to the adventure of a lifetime in search of her brother while exploring a realm where anything is possible. The narrative is brimming with action and suspense; as a reader, I couldn’t wait to get back to reading!
While the adventure aspect of the story was extraordinary, the lessons the reader learns from the gang about friendship, loyalty, bravery, and a brother and sister’s unbreakable bond, are what make this book a truly invaluable read.
Highly recommend!

Olivia Cole and the Legend of the Silver Seed will take you on a heartwarming adventure. We follow Olivia and her friends on a quest to find her brother who has gone missing. Along the way, she has to show her bravery. It could mean that she has to go somewhere where her brother went missing just two years earlier.
I very much enjoyed this book. You are drawn into the story from the beautiful cover and it doesn’t let you go until the very end. I think this book would be great for kids, it is a cute story with high stakes that will keep them engaged. This book tastefully tackles many hard-hitting topics such as bullying and grief that many kids can relate to. This book created such a vivid world you could effortlessly imagine the adventure Oliva is embarking on. This author has successfully created some of my favorite characters, and I had fun getting to know them. I am so excited to see what is next for Olivia.
I highly recommend this book to young kids it is a great adventure!

Olivia Cole and the Legend of the Silver Seed was filled with an intricate world and many twists and turns. The characters are relatable because they're not perfect, they can be selfish and sometimes short-sighted, but I liked how the friends always knew they could lean on one another. The story gave me Chronicles of Narnia vibes with the three friends heading off with all the different natives and then Amanda getting caught up with the queen. The world building paints a beautiful image helping the reader to not only know what this world looks like, but also feel it, and taste it. The cliffhanger at the end will leave you wanting to know what's going to happen next.

This book is the perfect introduction for middle graders into magic and fantasy, complete with flawed characters and a fully realized magical world. Olivia and her friends set off on a journey to find Olivia’s older brother, who disappeared with no trace two years ago. Even with its fantastical setting and adventure, it’s a story about family, friendship, and the lengths we’d go to for those we love. I especially loved the dual POVs and the character of Amanda, who beautifully foils the character of Olivia. The twists and turns throughout the book will keep you on the edge of your seat, and the ending will leave you wanting more.

When I first started reading this, I assumed I'd have it done by next week. However, two days later, I just put it down. It's not often I'll find a new author with such a seasoned and well-written piece of work. Each character is distinguishable from the others, either by the way they speak, their manurisms, etc. There are even new languages! This is a classic portal fantasy, well written, enjoyable to read, and loads of fun. After doing some research via Facebook, I found out that this story hasn't been picked up by a publisher yet, which shocked me! 100% it needs to be in libraries everywhere. I recommend this highly.
Hello,
I was lucky enough to find this title, here is my review:
This story follows a group of four children who, through a portal, are taken into a fantasy world called Sumera. While there, they meet the locals and are instantly swept up in an adventure. This is a real good vs. evil tale with a really surprising ending that had me in tears. Literally.
I've already recommended this to my friends, who, I'm sure, will be posting reviews soon!
I found this story via a Facebook post, and boy, oh boy, am I glad that I did.
It was such a sweet story :)
Even though Amanda was the bully, she was my favorite character. She has gone through so much, and her character arc is a lot of fun. I was also quite fond of Eddy. He is the classic kid with the journal and the witty sense of humor.
Well worth the read. Recommend highly.
Terrific read. If you enjoy portal fantasies, then this is for you. Even as an adult, I found it very enjoyable.
Even though this story is geared towards children/teenagers, it was jam packed with life lessons. Dealing with loss, trust between friends, putting oneself out there to help someone else, etc. The story follows 2 POV's: Olivia and Amanda. Both characters intertwine beautifully throughout the story. I'm not sure if there will be a book 2 yet, but I most certainly hope so. I loved this sotry and look forward to seeing more books written by Ricky Melamed.
I found this book under the section titled "Most Requested," and I know why now. This was listed as a fantasy, but there is no shortage of mystery woven in. What is the Silver Seed? Wouldn't you like to know? There were twists and turns at every corner. I read this book to my 10-year-old son. There aren't many things that will get him away from the TV, but this sure did! He actually asked me to read more. This was a real hit. I would definitely recommend this book.
What a wonderful story. I found myself unable to put this book down. The adventure Olivia and her friends go on through Sumera is delightful. There were many moments where I was at the edge of my seat. The creatures they find in Sumera and the wonderful people who live there are nothing short of amazing. This is the perfect fantasy story for any tween.

Olivia Cole and the legend of the Silver Seed is an action/adventure middle grade book by debut author Ricky Melamed.
This book takes place two years after Olivia’s older brother disappears. Olivia returns to her family farm with two friends Penny and Eddy. It’s the first time since her brother’s disappearance she has returned.
When Olivia and her friends explore the farm they find unusual flowers and are thrown into a magical world of adventure. Olivia realizes that this is likely what happened to her brother Tyler and they head off to look for him.
This is a book full of action, adventure and quirky characters. There are many characters which sometimes makes it difficult to keep track of but ultimately is a fun read and great debut for the middle grade audience. This is a 4 star read for me.
