Aesop, Mother Goose and Lewis Carroll are up in arms. Their stories are being sabotaged by a sinister fabulist bent on getting revenge on the Brothers Grimm. But can a little girl from the projects save them with just a deck of cards and a press-on nail?

12-year-old Farley Malone loves to read fables with her grandmother because she likes them and because MeeMaw seems to be the only person in Farley’s family who understands her lack of confidence. Farley’s mother loads her down with chores she always forgets to do. And at school she just can’t concentrate. To help Farley, MeeMaw has a plan. She gives her granddaughter a lime green teddy bear with a secret box inside. The box holds a press-on nail and a deck of cards. Both have magical powers. Farley soon learns she must use them to save MeeMaw’s fables, but how can she get the job done when her meddling cousin Ebony keeps throwing her off her game?
