Description
Rowland+Broughton is known for shaping the town of Aspen with their visionary work in urban design and historic preservation. Here, founders John Rowland and Sarah Broughton showcase ten spectacular residences in Aspen and the Rocky Mountains created by their innovative and talented firm.
With beautiful photography throughout, Designing Aspen includes a range of houses, from Mountain Retreat, a modern lodge-style home located at the base of Aspen Highlands, to Meadow House, positioned at the edge of a meadow amid an existing forest of spruce and evergreens, and from Art Barn, a residence with the specific purpose of displaying art, to Bagua, a Zen mountain retreat. Also featured are essays about Aspen and its history and relevance; the importance of historic preservation; client relationships; and the philosophy of the firm; and a foreword by Tom Kundig.
Perfect for lovers of home design and architecture, anyone who aspires to build or decorate a house in the mountains, and visitors and residents of Aspen enthralled by its charms, this makes a beautiful coffee table book and a captivating volume of residential design expertise and inspiration.

I’ve always been drawn to books on design and interiors and this book was a wonderful introduction to the beauty of Aspen homes. The photographs are gorgeous and not only perfectly capture the character of the homes but also the incredible surroundings. Designing Aspen would be right at home on the shelves of any design fan and would serve as great inspiration when designing your own home.
This book was absolutely stunning. Gorgeous photos of home inspiration. It would make a lovely coffee table book!
I picked up this book with the thought that I would be able to grab some inspiration for the home we are building. It did not disappoint! The pictures captured the feel of these homes so perfectly and I left these pages feeling so inspired.
This would make a beautiful coffee book for people who love design and architecture.
The perfect coffee table book showcasing the architecture and design from the founders of Rowland and Broughton. The fabulous photography shows the scenery that is just as stunning as the architecture! I especially loved the cozy interiors with the endless design ideas that are just beautiful.
I thank Netgalley and Chronicle Books for the opportunity to read and review this book.
You can learn a lot about design and architecture from this book, and it's fascinating learning how individuals use these unique spaces. Of course, it's also a perfect coffee table book, with gorgeous photos I could look at again and again. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
Lovers of architecture and design will adore this gorgeous coffee table book featuring 10 stunning homes in Aspen, Colorado. A perfect gift for those inspired by beautiful abodes.
This coffee table book features beautiful photographs of homes that the authors have designed in Aspen, Colorado, through their architectural firm. The authors share details about each project, describing aspects of the design process, their collaboration with the client, and their approach to designing homes that work well within natural spaces and best highlight scenic views. The text is very small and appears in cramped columns, which makes it easy to skim past and difficult to read, but the showstopping photos are the book's main appeal factor anyway. The pictures are beautiful, and there are lots of great interior and exterior shots that highlight unique elements of the home and special aspects of the view.
A gorgeous design book featuring the work of R+B in Aspen. The photography is stunning but something tells me these homes and their mountain views would absolutely take your breath away in person. The homes are hyper-modern design that feels livable and unique to each setting. The architecture is clearly a bespoke design for each home’s location, using the outdoor views to organically influence the architecture and layout. It feels very biophilic in many ways—inspired by the nature that surrounds each home. I enjoyed this book. It would be a lovely coffee table book for anyone who loves the mountains, architecture, and design.
A gorgeous coffee table book with stunning photos, set against the backdrop of Aspen and the Rocky Mountains. I loved learning about the history of Aspen from a design standpoint.
You’ll find tons of design inspiration in this book. It would make a lovely gift for fans of architecture. home design, lux living and travel.
