Description
Celebrated animal photographer Traer Scott invites readers on a heartwarming journey into the lives of courageous rescue cats and kittens, captured in evocative images and remarkable stories. In these pages, you’ll meet:
- Forrest, a majestic Maine Coon who was born with an impairment and found on the street as a twelve-week-old stray. After finding the perfect home, he now goes kayaking and camping with his family.
- Linus, once a severely malnourished kitten weighing less than one ounce and given no chance of survival. After months of careful foster care, he grew to be a healthy and beloved pet.
- A litter of kittens, shown week by week, revealing how quickly they grow and change.
- And twenty more rescue cats whose inspiring stories of survival and resilience offer an irresistible celebration of compassion and second chances.
Beautifully illustrated and engagingly written, Rescue Cats pays tribute to these amazing felines who have undergone remarkable transformations and found their forever homes while conveying the profound impact of rescue and adoption. For cat lovers, photography enthusiasts, and advocates for animal welfare, this joyful cat book is a poignant reminder that every rescue is a chapter in a larger story of compassion and redemption.

This precious book with gorgeous photos and stories about rescued felines will grab your heart and not let go. Shows how the life of a vulnerable animal can be changed by one loving home. A must-read for all cat lovers!
This book is an absolute gem. I am a rescuer and have had kittens with many of the disabilities that face kittens born to feral moms. I currently have a one eyed blind kitty, who lost his entire family to feline leukemia. Poots is surprisingly negative. I also have a TNR feral kitty with feline aids (FIV) who is living his best life indoors. I can relate to all these stories and I love that they have had such positive outcomes. Many do not. The stories are heartwarming and the photos of each cat are beautifully done. I will be using this information with in my speech therapy sessions to advocate and also teach the importance of spay and neuter, but also giving all kitties their best lives.
Thanks you #netgalley #papress for the ARC of a beautifully and informational book.
As an avid cat lover with three rescues, I knew I would love this book! I wish I could pet every cat in this book and hug the people that helped save them. This book is perfect for all animal lovers, especially cat lovers and anyone involved or interested in rescue work. I often see fundraisers or posts about sick or disabled cats at my local humane society, and it was so heartwarming to read similar stories and see the cats healthy and happy now.
I received an ARC from Princeton Architectural Press via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The photos in this book are beautiful and capture the regal nature of cats perfectly. The stories about each of the cats are thoughtfully written. Because the book focuses on rescue cats, each story starts with some mention of animal cruelty, abandonment, and/or injury, which could be distressing to some readers, but the stories have happy endings. I loved reading these stories about such resilient kitties!
Thank you to Princeton Architectural Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
I am a cat person. I was so excited to receive an ARC to Rescue Cats. With beautiful pictures of the cats that really showcase their individual personalities, and the (some heartbreaking) stories of how they found their forever homes and forever people, this book tugged at my heartstrings in the best way.
Thank you Netgalley and Chronicle Books | Princeton Architectural Press for giving me the opportunity to read and review this lovely book.
I am a huge animal lover and have taken in many stray, sick or injured cats. This book is perfect for anyone who loves animals. The photos are gorgeous and the stories are heartwarming. I will come back to this book often because of this. I would love to see more of these books from the author. Would love to see black cats featured in a book. Thank you also to the author for fostering and working with TNR.
What an amazing book for cat lovers! Each story was heartbreaking, but followed with a happy ending. Forrest the Maine Coon was my favorite! Such a sweet kitty. The photos this book are beautiful. They captured each kitty and their personality so well! I truly loved everything about this book!
I started making note of all the stories so I could share my favorite of the bunch, but my list included every cat in the book. Heartwarming stories that share what a little extra love can do to change the life of these sweet babies. 🥰
I used to volunteer in a very small rescue and it was shocking how many of our pets had been mistreated. However, that didn't keep them from being wonderful, sweet, loving creatures who found happy homes. This book has a gorgeous collection of cats with short stories of how they were rescued and how they are living happily ever after. It's so heartwarming and the pictures are amazing. The photos are candid shots that show how much personality these gorgeous cats have, and it's so cute when they're looking at the camera. Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this
Rescue Cats by Traer Scott is loaded with adorable pictures and heartwarming stories of beautiful kittens and cats that are getting the chance to live their best lives. I have been a cat lover since I was extremely little, and have always been drawn to them. We currently have five cats, two are rescues. The book has so many interesting stories that draw the heartstrings. I love seeing the resilience in this magnificent babies, and the families and caregivers that see the beauty and wonder in trying what others won’t or can’t. The photos definitely make you smile, and I could look at those adorable photos all day.
As always, Traer Scott put together lovely photographs with wonderful stories, some that even make you cry. I tore through this book so quickly because of how much I loved his book on rescue dogs. I remember lingering on some photos and re-reading some stories and Traer Scott just puts me in a state of awe and admiration for the people who love their pets as much as I love mine, which I didn't think was possible (which, I'm sure, is what every pet lover says). A quick read and a great joy, I highly recommend Traer Scott's work.
As a cat owner and lover myself, I absolutely adore this book. Not only are the photos gorgeous, but the stories of these shelters cats touched my heart. As the author stated, cats are ofter overlooked and seen as replaceable. I am a vet tech and I have seen many owners give up on their cats because "they're just a cat". It breaks my heart every time but these rescue stories put a smile on my face. Cats are resilient and show so much love to their humans and the photos really captured their individual personalities so well. Such a sweet little read.
The photos are gorgeous, and the stories are lovely. My 6 year old cat lover enjoyed this so much! It would be a great coffee table book.
A great coffee table book or gift for cat lovers! The photography is beautiful and the stories drive home just how important it is to adopt versus shop for your animal companions. Be careful - this book may inspire you to adopt several new furry friends!
Thank you Netgalley and Chronicle Books | Princeton Architectural Press for the advance copy for review.
I am 1000% a cat person and have 3 myself. This book was so touching, I loved hearing about the different personalities and accomplishments of each cat. Each cat is unique in their own way and there’s a cat for every type of person. I was genuinely so happy reading how strong and loving these cats are despite disabilities and/or bad upbringings.
I was silly enough to read this while going through my cycle and god I bawled, learning about all these brave rescue cats and their stories, and also their humans. So many refused to give up on their furballs. I'm so glad the author decided to put this book together with their beautiful photography. Cats, they are magical creatures, and I truly think this book could open so many hearts to the love and beauty of owning and rescuing cats.
I am the proud owner of 11 cats I've rescued and 1 foster (I foster failed a ton).
Oh my gosh was this a pick-me-up read. I love Scott's collection of short rescue stories and the pictures! Definitely would recommend.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC!

Look, sometimes you just need to look at photos of rescue kitties and get a little teary-eyed. Don't judge me. The photos are lovely, and I'm glad those cats found their forever homes. I think books like this, along with similar videos posted by the Dodo and Geobeats, help bring rescue pets to people's attention and encourage them to adopt rather than shop. As a cute note, my own rescue kitty was snuggled up to me as I read this, purring.
I do have to mention that the writing was a little stiff, and I wish the author had sunk more into the storytelling. Perhaps with more quotes and more details of the cats' lives post-rescue. Nonetheless, I'm very glad I picked this up.
Thank you to Net Galley for this e-copy of Rescue Cats by Traer Scott..This is a wonderfully heartwarming book about cats that have been rescued , many with disabilities. The photos and stories are exquisite, each telling a story about a rescue that was given a new lease on life and allowed to live his or her best life.Highly recommend!
I found this book to be a captivating read. As a lifelong dog enthusiast, I was pleasantly surprised by the intriguing world of cats portrayed within its pages. The author skillfully delves into the traumatic experiences faced by cats, yet beautifully illustrates their resilience and the profound bond between them and their human companions. It's a testament to the strength of both feline spirit and human kindness.
Also the pictures of the cats are pretty cute. I'm not crying you are crying !
Thanks NetGalley for this arc
A totally cute book. I loved reading about th variety of different rescue cats. Beautiful rescue cats.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for letting me review this book. The stories and cat photos are great. I’m glad they all found good homes.
Most pet lovers (me included) have watched countless online videos of rescue stories, always with heartwarming endings of animals happily playing while looking much healthier than when they were rescued. And most of us are used to the lumps in the throat that result from watching brave animals and their caring humans live happily ever after. Since most of the videos I've seen involve dogs, it was so nice to see cats shining in this beautiful book. Not only shining, but standing out as the regal, elegant (and sometimes kooky) creatures that they are. The stories in this book are so compelling, but it is the pictures that got me. Top notch portraits of gorgeous animals are a delight to the eye and the heart.
Many thanks to Chronicle Books and NetGalley for sharing this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Rescue Cats by Traer Scott is filled with wonderful photos and stories that will tug at your heartstrings. Scott explains that she has long loved cats, but worried that they would not be easy photography subjects. Her results are fantastic, with no doubt much credit to the behavioral consultants who also contributed to the book.
This book is an ideal gift for any cat lover -- but you might want to consider including a box of tissues.
Pros: The cover of this book immediately caught my attention, and the photography throughout is fantastic. The personality of the cats shine through the photos. The stories in this book are heartwarming (while often beginning as heartbreaking). This would be a fantastic book to gift cat lovers, especially those who love a cat they rescued.
Cons: None except it reminds me of how many cats (and other animals) there are that need to be rescued.
Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books | Princeton Architectural Press for the opportunity to read this book.
I love cats so I was very eager to dive into this! Some of the rescue cats stories are sadder than others but all are accompanied by adorable, and sometimes funny photos.
As an avid lifelong cat lover and self-proclaimed crazy cat lady, I adored "Rescue Cats" by Traer Scott. This heartwarming read is a treasure for cat enthusiasts, featuring stunning full-color portraits and touching adoption stories. Scott's evocative photography and compelling narratives invite readers into the lives of courageous rescue cats, capturing their unique personalities and the profound impact of adoption. "Rescue Cats" is more than a book—it's a celebration of the bond between humans and their feline companions. A must-read for anyone who loves cats.
Adorable rescue cats and their stories. Will melt your hear and have you fall in love. Encourages people to rescue pets. My 5 year old loved it and so did I.
I love how this book introduces each cat and gives a back story on their history. It really makes the reader connect to each kitty and care about them.
LOVE! Really stunning photographs of the cats and I love, love, love that the author included cats with disabilities from CH, blindness, and wearing diapers. I loved reading the stories of each of the cats and the cute bonus photos of the kittens at the end! A good one for any cat lover.
Rescue Cats is a heartwarming and informative slim and rich book about some rescue cats.
The photos in the book are well-done and represent each of these characters effectively.
There’s no need to say that all of the cats in the book have a unique personality, they are their own cat.
And they are heroes.
Thanks to everyone involved in respecting the lives of the cats in this book.
I am a cat lover but my husband is allergic to cats so I have to live vicariously through others and this book is exactly what I needed to boost my spirits and give me hope. I am so impressed with all of the human heroes who rescue cats and take chances on either trying to help ill, elderly or disabled cats get a second chance and a good life. I was amazed at how many times it was a Vet Tech who had to convince the Vet to give the cat a chance and how the Vet Techs ended up fostering and caring for the cats. The photos and stories in here are amazing and beautiful. I admit I cried at points out of hopefulness and in some cases sadness. But if ever I need a mood elevator -- this is the book I will return to again and again.
Thank you to Netgalley and Chronicle Books for an ARC and I voluntarily left this review.
A beautiful book with pictures and stories about cats. The saying, our pets are like family, is captured so well in this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an Advanced Reader’s Copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was such a surprise, I opened NetGalley and this book was in my shelf. This book made my little Cat Lady heart soar!
Rescue Cats was an adorable book with beautiful photos and outstanding stories.
Perfect for me and my fellow Cat Ladies or any animal lover. I can't wait to read more from Traer Scott.
Thank you to Princeton Architectural Press and NetGalley.
I would read at least fifty more books all about cats! These are all such lovely stories about cats who got a second chance at a happy life! So wholesome.
What an adorable book! There is a multitude of beautiful photos and heartwarming stories about CATS. These cats are not perfect cats, they are rescue cats, special needs cats and cats that had a rough start in life but they are all beautiful! There are Romeo and Juliette, Floyd, Squiggy and many more. All of them were lucky enough to meet their human angels at some point. A cat lover myself, I devoured the stories and feel such gratitude for their saviors.
This book is not a novel, it’s a piece of art and a perfect coffee table book. The photos are gorgeous, the individual stories are short, and I was able to read the whole book in about an hour.
I thank Netgalley, PAPress and the author from the bottom of my heart for the opportunity to read this advance copy. The above is my honest opinion, and I may just go and buy a copy of the book when it’s available!
4 out of 5 stars because I felt it was too short. If it is something you want to read in one sitting though I highly recommend. Cute cats and happy endings are the heart of this book.
This book was gripping and hard to put down. It didn't feel like everything else you see out there, it felt very fresh. I really enjoyed this book!
This is a beautifully photographed and narrated book about the brave and selfless persons who adopt and care for cats that suffer from injury or disability. It is a necessary work and worthwhile read.
Thank you to Chronicle Books and NetGalley for providing this eARC.
What's not to love about stories of cats and kittens that were rescued from bad situations that then flourished in their new environments? If you're an animal lover, make sure you keep a box of tissues handy. These heartwarming stories and the beautiful photographs that accompany them, are sure to hit you right in the feels. This would be a great gift for the cat lover in your life, or for anyone you know who might foster or work with an animal rescue.
Thank you to Traer Scott, Chronicle Books, and Netgalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
