Description

In another installment of "Penny Pangolin and Friends," embark on an endearing journey of friendship, responsibility, and the unexpected joy of companionship in "Penny Pangolin Wants A Pet." This charming tale, perfect for fans of "Curious George" and "Berenstain Bears," introduces young readers to the adorable Penny Pangolin who longs for a pet to call her own.

The story opens on Penny's birthday, where instead of the pet she's been dreaming of, she receives... a plant. Though it isn't the pet she asked for, Penny's big heart leads her to cherish her new green friend.

Yet, despite her devotion, the quiet plant can't quite fill the companionship gap that a pet would. As Penny contemplates the perfect pet, she encounters a distressed "bearcat"―actually a red panda cub―leading to an adventure that teaches her about empathy, wildlife, and the joyous unpredictability of friendship.

Through vivid illustrations and engaging text, "Penny Pangolin Wants A Pet" highlights the significance of caring for others, whether they're plants, pets, or each other. It emphasizes the responsibility involved in pet ownership, making it an excellent conversation starter for families considering adding a pet to their home.

Moreover, this delightful narrative subtly educates readers about the diverse and endangered animals native to the Eastern regions, like the red panda. The book encourages respect and empathy for wildlife, often misunderstood or misrepresented.

At the end of the book, don't miss the special section about pangolins, their critical endangerment, and how each one of us, no matter our age, can contribute to their conservation. There's also a page showing all the background critters hidden throughout the book's illustrations, making sure to engage your child even more.

Kids ages: 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 will love this heartwarming tale of friendship and responsibility. Join Penny and discover why the best friendships are often the ones you least expect!

Aw, I love this new world - the world of Penny Pangolin. It is authentic and unexpected. As I said in my review for another book in the series, despite being a children’s picture book, you do not expect some plot points/turning points coming. I appreciated the style of the pictures even more this time.
This is a good conversation about responsibility, expectations, the different steps in taking responsibilities, the care that needs to come with owning a pet, and family.
Mooky is adorable. Very interesting characters and setting.

Penny Pangolin Wants a Pet is an appealing and colorful illustrated book for kids by Wayne D. Kramer. Released 13th March 2023, it's 34 pages and is available in hardcover, paperback, and ebook formats. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free. The other books featuring Penny and friends are also currently available on KU.

This is a fun short story featuring Penny's quest to convince her parents to let her adopt a pet. The book is peppered throughout with small illustrated details and interesting background species of plants and animals in Penny's neighborhood.

The art by Jade Zivanovic is rendered electronically and is balanced, whimsical, colorful, and appealing. The drawings are full of small details which invite readers to pause and take a closer look. In fact, the author/illustrator have hidden some animals and items in the pictures scattered throughout the book which invite readers to page through and find later.

It's not just a fun anthropomorphic animal adventure, the author has included information about species conservation (they're critically endangered in the wild) and the importance of helping protect wildlife and nature. They've provided links for further reading and a QR code for more content.

Five stars. Really cute short story with some good messages. This would be a good choice for public or school library acquisition, home use, or gift giving.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Penny was a wonderful little girl who always listened to her parents, even when they gave her a plant for a pet. She took excellent care of it, which spoke volumes to her parents.

Adorable story of how Penny Pangolin becomes a pet owner. I have to admit to some slight envy at the pet Penny ends up with because it is such a fun choice. Another delightful book in the series of Penny Pangolin with more marvellous illustrations provided by Jade Zivanovic. Thanks for the ability to read this book

Penny was given a plant for her birthday and tried to treat it as a pet, but it just didn't work out. As she was out and about a neighbor was irate because a pest was eating his garden so he trapped it in a humane trap. Penny felt sorry for the red panda cub and it became her very own pet. It was even found out that the little one was an orphan! A veritable treat/exercise for the eyes to enjoy the panoply of characters and scenes of everything in the village. Be sure to use the QR Code to learn more about the animals and more!
The illustrations by Jade Zivanovic are fun, intricate, brilliantly colorful, and delightful.
Well suited for reading alone or WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to everyone, but especially to a school or your local public library!

Penny Pangolin Wants a Pet is another cute story in the Penny Pangolin and Friends series. In this book Penny, the scaly anteater, befriends a red panda after releasing it from a cage. After which, they both become best friends and companions.

With adorable illustrations, young ones will learn about compassion, empathy, and companionship. And at the end of the book, young ones will acquire knowledge about pangolins -- their habitat, status and other interesting facts. Five stars.

I was invited to read a DRC from BooksGoSocial. This review is completely my own and reflects my honest thoughts and opinions.

Penny is back and this time she wants a pet. She has to prove to her parents that she is responsible enough to care for a pet. I loved the illustrations and I will be recommending this one!

I read this to my 4 and 6 year old - it was probably their favourite out of the three we have read.

This time Penny wants a pet, so her parents give her a Venus flytrap instead. When she has done a good job caring for it, her parents tell her she can choose a pet. Around the same time, there is a little red panda cub (very cute) being a menace in the village. Penny ends up falling in love with him and keeping him.

I do like these books as they introduce kids to animals which are not usually represented in children’s fiction.

Penny Pangolin Wants a Pet is an ADORABLE picture book about a young pangolin who begs her parents for a pet. I loved the focus on endangered species & the amount of different species that were in this book. It is a great way to introduce kiddos to learning about endangered species.

The illustrations were fantastic & the plot was cute and well-paced. I would definitely recommend this one for young animal lovers or anyone else who just wants to read a sweet story.

This book was so, so cute!! One of the best things about this book was I had an expectation of the plot in my head, but I was happily surprised when the story turned out to be something different than what I anticipated. The other thing I really enjoyed reading about was how Penny cared for her plant very well, and she got credit from her parents for treating it so well. This book is going to be a favorite for kids everywhere, because wanting a pet is a classic childhood event. Penny Pangolin perfectly shows this and her story was so adorable and fun to read.
Now for the illustrations. They were phenomenal!! There was so much detail in every drawing without overwhelming the reader. I also loved the little guide in the back of the book of plants and animals that appear in the story. And the pictures in this guide were so accurate without being overly realistic-looking, which keeps kids highly engaged in the story all the way to the end. The last thing I want to recognize is the illustrator's talent to add depth with light in all of the illustrations. It definitely helped immerse me fully into Penny's world, and it will no doubt do the same for other readers.

It is so much fun to have a pet. It's work, it is rewarding and it builds character. Penny's parents told Penny she could have a pet but it would have to be plant. Well one thing lead to another and Penny experienced all the good things about having a pet. Very good story for the young and old.

A special thank you to Books Go Social and Netgalley for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.

Penny Pangolin wants a pet for her birthday but her parents got her a Venus fly trap instead. Penny loves her plant but it’s not the same as a pet. One day while out walking she comes across a red fox through her neighbor. This is a delightful story of bonding and friendship. The illustrations are so vivid and A plus. The detailing is wonderful. This is a great bedtime or story time story.

Thank you NetGalley and Heroes of Time Productions for the opportunity to read "Penny Pangolin Wants A Pet" in exchange for my honest review.

This book introduces the reader to Penny Pangolin. The story in intended for the 4 to 8 year old age group but I think younger children might enjoy it equally. The characters are adorable, the illustrations are colourful and eye-catching. You like them as soon as you see them.

This story is about teaching responsibility. Penny wants a pet but her parents buy her a plant instead. She learns to like her plant, takes excellent care of it, takes it with her everywhere. Her parents realize that Penny is indeed responsible enough to have a pet. When Penny finds a Red Panda Cub, they decide that the orphan cub will be a wonderful addition the their family.

The book has information on Pangolins at the end and helps children find various forms of wildlife in the story.
