Description
Nick and Barbara Kerr went to Israel in 1982 believing that Old Testament prophecies were being fulfilled with the return of Jews and the establishment of the state of Israel. A chance meeting with Palestinian evangelical Christians called into question everything they had believed.
Now 40 years later, Nick in his retirement from the ministry has spent 3 years researching the phenomenon of Christian Zionism. In this book he delves into the history and politics associated with it over the last 150 years. He helps evangelicals in particular to come to terms with why the Bible cannot be used to support Israel. The Hebrew Scriptures which are the basis of Judaism require a commitment to 'justice for the oppressed'. Jesus spoke about 'love of neighbour' being the foundation of human relationships.
Nick uses the expert knowledge of well known evangelical scholars to refute the basis of Christian Zionism, and as a South African, draws on the experience of Apartheid to highlight the parallels with Zionism.

5.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive and accurate examination of Christian Zionism and Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Nicholas Kerr's book is well researched and highly readable. He gives a comprehensive account of the history, politics, and justifying theology behind the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The ongoing conflict - now at its height with the Gaza war - is indeed A Wound Unhealed. Working through the book will help the reader to understand the wound at its source, with its pain-filled effects over the decades. The book poses the question, does Christian Zionism contribute to Palestinian suffering? The answer is unequivocally yes. Kerr shows how Zionism, both Jewish and Christian Zionism (the latter predated and fostered the former), contributes to Palestinian suffering. The examination of Christian Zionism, a recent novel development in Church history, reveals how it theologically legitimises the ideologically driven state of Israel. From correct biblical exegesis and interpretation of scripture, which Kerr does well, Christian Zionism is a heresy. All evangelical readers must read this book!

A deeply researched book on the traumatic and complicated history between Israel and Palestine. The author has been researching this topic since the 1980's; and I think it could be safe to say the author is an international expert on the subject. The author illuminates how Zionism has served as the myopic lens for those who support that Israel has the Biblically prophetic license to dominate the Palestinians. The book rattled my previously uneducated beliefs. I highly recommend this enlightening book.
