Description
The Ocean's Will (title inspired by Robert Frost's A Boy's Will ... is the wind's will) deals with the connection between humans and nature, the wildness of creation in both nature and the artist. Just as the wildness of nature creates shapes, gives form to life, the wildness (the giving in to deepest passions and the connecting with nature) of the artist (painter, poet, composer) also creates shapes and gives form to life. This passion and connection often causes great pain to the artist (Van Gogh is a perfect example), but the connection, that awareness, also brings great joy. As Wilhelm Reich so succinctly states: "To know the joys of heaven, we must be prepared to also know the pains of hell."
Advance Praise
Congratulations on a masterpiece! The theme and imagery of striking out on the open ocean – swimming or sailing and opening oneself up to the tides and forces of nature is truly inspirational ... awe inspiring! What a courageous book! Other favorites include the poems of/for Van Gogh and Roethke as well as the imaginative flight of your Mediterranean classical ancestry! And, of course, the many haiku and haiku-like gems! Bravo!
