Description
The World Baking Competition is coming up. It is taking place at the Incredible Hotel and will be judged by guest of honor, Chef Tartine. Stefan has perfected his chocolate cake recipe, but on the morning of the event... the recipe is nowhere to be found!
Luckily, the best detective in Delaunay is on hand – Stefan’s best friend, Matilda. Who could the thief be?! Everyone has their theory and Mr Starch, the hotel manager, is ready to point the finger at a baking saboteur...
From exceptionally talented author Kate Davies and award-winning illustrator Isabelle Follath, this enchantingly illustrated and nostalgic picture book visits the same unique hotel as the previous book, depicted in characterful illustrations and described with whimsical and charming text. With a strong and smart female lead, this is a principled and entertaining story.

This is the second book set at The Incredible Hotel and this one is even better than book one [which was really magnificent on its own]; it is a fantastic book with a mystery and a baking competition and a lesson in not always judging a book by its cover.
As you look closely at each fabulous illustration [these are really amazing and I admit I read the book twice just so I could focus on the illustrations the second time around] page, you will find new things every time you look at them and you will be able to see clues [along with what Miranda the Bellhop finds] to solve the mystery [and what a fun, unexpected reveal that was]! Then it is off to the baking competition and well, I will let you read that for yourself!! Once again, make sure you are paying attention to all the illustrations, especially the cat and mouse, as they have their own fun going on.
Absolutely delightful, kids of all ages will love this, and will keep them busy for hours, searching for new things in the illustrations.
Very well done!!

It is such a delight to read about Chef Stefan again. This one is significantly different from the first one and considerably harder than the first one. I still love this one though as it has such an engaging and sweet story with stunning illustration.
Thank you for the gifted arc!
Such a fun read for children! It was fast paced and had a wonderful HEA for everyone! The illustrations were beautiful as well!
This book Fun from the get-go, as an early child educator and a new mom. I enjoy a nice fast pace book But still engaging for the children and the illustrations are beautiful.
What a cute little story. I wish I could visit The Incredible Hotel. I absolutely love the illustrations. It makes me feel like I am in the middle of a fall landscape. I wanted to walk into the cozy kitchen and have a slice of cake. I liked that the main character was young. I hope that inspires children to follow their dreams.

A Mystery at the Incredible Hotel is a superb sequel to The Incredible Hotel, we have a new dream to come true. This time Bellhop Matilda dreams of becoming a detective, can she make her dream come true?
Stefan is chosen to enter The World's Baking Contest, but disaster strikes on the day of the contest his top secret recipe is stolen. Can Matilda save the day? Full of scrumptious cake and stunning illustrations this is a perfect picture book treat (best enjoyed with lots of cake).
I cannot wait to enter the Incredible Hotel again
This charming book tells the story of two young hotel workers who use their respective talents to great effect. The illustrations are beautiful and quite enchanting. An excellent book to add to any children's library.
With a delightfully diverse cast of characters, the gentle mystery and gorgeous illustrations will pull any young reader into this story! Adult readers will appreciate the humor in the character names and enjoy the over the top design elements while younger readers will be thrilled to engage with a baking contest and detective show designed "just for them." While readers returning to the chaotic world of the Incredible Hotel will enjoy catching up with Chef Stefan, readers new to this world will not feel left out as the joyful bustle of the Hotel will sweep them away within the first few pages. As a result, this will be a fantastic addition to a picture book collection, even if the first book is not available in that library.
Thank you to NetGalley for access to such an incredible arc.

A Mystery at the Incredible Hotel is a children's picture book about a missing recipe during a baking competition. The illustrations were so fun in this one and I LOVED all of the clues that were spread throughout the pages. If you or your littles are a fan of the Great British Bake-off, then you should definitely pick this one up!

We really enjoyed reading The Incredible Hotel with my son so I was excited to see a follow up.
The story is lovely and the illustrations are great. Eagle-eyed children will love looking at the pictures, watching the cat and spotting clues to the thief. Not sure the secret cake recipe would be a success if anyone tried it though!
It's a little big for my daughter at the moment but I'll add it to her birthday list for in a few years.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced ebook copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book was SO fun! My kids and I absolutely loved reading this together. The illustrations were beautiful, the storyline was fun, and I had such a fun time talking to the kids after this! A really great kids book!
A fantastic title. I loved several aspects of this book. Colourful, detailed illustrations. A great pace and length will keep young readers’ interests. Historical setting is unique and not too much. The mystery is within reach for kids to wrap their heads around.
I would love to adapt this into my classroom as a means to introduce the mystery genre to my 3rd grade students. I know kids will love this title!
I had such a fun time reading this book!
I'll start with the illustrations. I loved how much beautiful detail there was, and every drawing had such a luxurious tone to it, perfectly matching the setting of the book. The colors were soft and glamorous, yet still colorful and fun. Kudos to the illustrator for taking the time to honor the time period and the setting of the book 100%!
As for the writing, the plot, and the story itself: all were great! There was quite a bit of writing on each page, but it worked nicely. Additionally, the author used page breaks and type size to their advantage to make the story more exciting. Such a smart choice to make! The plot was clear and present, with a nice beginning, middle, and unexpected end. I enjoyed the entire ride of this story and I have zero doubt that kids will, too. Lastly, the story wasn't unique, exactly, but it was definitely fresh. I liked the idea a lot and I know that it will also be a hit among young readers.
Bravo!
A fun mystery for young readers involving The World Baking Competition at the Incredible Hotel and a missing recipe for chocolate cake recipe. Can talented sleuth Matilda get to the bottom of the stolen recipe? A gem!
From the story to the illustrations this was a very enjoyable book. I loved the style of the art used, my little one who I read the book to also enjoyed the pictures. It's a fun mystery for children! The story is not too long or too short.
A second INCREDIBLE HOTEL book? How exciting!!
In this sequel to the INCREDIBLE HOTEL, we see Stefan sign up for a baking contest run by a celebrity chef. Stefan hopes to create a great new recipe for the contest, but his recipe note goes missing overnight! What to do??
I absolutely love the illustrations in this series. The hotel itself reminds me of Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, which makes me feel quite happy. I found this sequel to be just as delightful as the first book. I loved the additional character of Stefan’s best friend Matilda, and seeing her character arc grow. Overall, a delightful read!
This was an adorable story, perfect for preschoolers and younger elementary students!
I love having a mystery for younger children - it allows them to practice making predictions and helps them really engage with the story. The solution to the mystery was totally unexpected and absolutely fantastic.
The illustrations were beautiful, engaging and fun. There was a lot of diversity in the different people represented in the illustrations, which is a huge plus.
Overall, a wonderful book.
Like with the first book in the series, the story is very entertaining and whimsical with wonderful, dreamy illustrations and endearing characters. Looking forward to the next one!
Adorable story about a hotel that is hosting a baking challenge. A recipe goes missing and the bellhop uses her detective skills to solve the mystery. It was exciting and had beautiful pictures! It was a fun read and kept my 4-year-old captivated.
This book is a terrific read for a young lover of mysteries. They will meet Matilda who is a hotel bellhop. Will she be able to solve the case of the stolen secret recipe? It is needed for the World Baking Contest. The hotel’s Chef Stefan sure hopes so!
Matilda faces some doubts and accusations from those around her. Will she triumph? Who turns out to be behind the theft? Young children will enjoy finding out.
Isabella Follath has created delightful illustrations that enhance the enjoyment of the story. All in all, this is a short and appealing book.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this title. All opinions are my own.
This was very adorable! This book, which is the sequel to The Incredible Hotel, is way better than the first one. As always, the illustrations are phenomenal. A recipe goes lost during a baking competition in this fast-paced, light, and entertaining mystery. I will absolutely pick up the next installment if there is one!

A baking competition is coming to the whimsical Incredible Hotel and their own chef is selected to participate. However, his recently perfected recipe has now gone missing right before the competition!
A fun, imaginative book with eye-catching illustrations that will thrill children and adults alike. It's as if you have a touch of The British Bake-Off mixed with Nancy Drew and a dash of Eloise to get this adorable mystery with fun characters.
