Description
The people who have served as President of the United States of America are some of the most famous people on the planet. But how much do we really know about the presidents?
We all know that...
- President Abraham Lincoln freed enslaved people by signing the Emancipation Proclamation,
- Thomas Jefferson introduced ice cream to the US,
- Andrew Johnson was impeached by the House of Representatives and kicked out of office,
- AND that Theodore Roosevelt had teddy bears named after him because he once refused to shoot an injured bear...
Do we...? Because... OH NO THEY DIDN'T!
These commonly held misconceptions about our Presidents are everywhere, but none of them are true! In Oh No They Didn't: Presidents, commonly held misconceptions about the Presidents, Vice-Presidents, First Ladies, and presidential pets are all dispelled. This myth-busting guide to the White House and everyone in it is an irreverent, fun, and enriching way to learn about US political figures and history.
Stylishly designed and humorously illustrated by Sam Caldwell, Oh No They Didn't: Presidents is a hugely entertaining and trendy take on US history for young readers. This myth-busting series makes history accessible to everyone, taking an alternative and gripping approach to teaching the true facts about the past. Dive in to learn what else you were taught in school that is completely WRONG!
In the Oh No They Didn't... series, popular misconceptions in history and culture are dispelled, busting myths about famous people and events of the past!

Although this book is targeted towards children, I quite enjoyed this at 32. There was a lot of facts I didn't know about the American presidents, vice presidents, and first ladies. Anyone looking for a quick summary of the individuals who have led America will find this book a valuable resource. The timeline at the end of the book is very helpful in keeping the presidents in order as well as each first lady and veep.
What a great book! I love how cool factoids about presidents, vice presidents, first ladies, and pets were interspersed with fun eye-catching graphics throughout. I learned quite a bit and definitely would buy this book!
Thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of this book.
This engaging book is chock full of fascinating facts and interesting information about U.S. Presidents, First Ladies and even pets that lived at the White House. Colorful, detailed and quirky illustrations enhance this entertaining read. Children and their families, as well as teachers and students will enjoy reading this book and discovering some lesser known facts about the Presidents and their families. A timeline of the Presidents and a map of where they came from are a fun bonus at the end of the book. A highly recommended read!
A terrific fact-filled book that dispels myths about US Presidents, VPs, and First Ladies. Fab artwork, trivia such as President's pets, a timeline, and more make this a must read for kids 7-9. Adults will learn a lot too.
Fantastic book and illustrations!
Want your children (or any adult) to develop an interest in the US Presidents? Then leave this out! There were new-to-me facts as an adult who's dived into the topic before and this was a delightful read. It took me back to my childhood, where I loved reading fun facts and trivia about the Presidents.
A factfilled and fun book about US presidents, VPs and the first Ladies. We will definitely add this to the library ahead of the US elections. What is especially great about the book are the illustrations, the glossary at the end and timeline.
Presidents by Eric Uuang is a great book for kids with lots of awesome facts about Presidents. As a 4th grade teacher I know my students will be interested in reading this book.
Thank you NetGalley for the arc!
Its such a beautiful book. The illustrations work so well and it really captures the essence of each description – again its such a pretty book, definitely a bookshelf book. I loved the Map of Presidents and the timeline, but my favourite page was White House Hobbies!
I came away with a much better understanding of the US Presidential history, I was fascinated by the vice president’s role and history. It was filled with good explanations and an entertaining narrative. I really enjoyed the witty speech bubbles/comments throughout – it reminded me of the CGP revision guides I used during my GCSE’s and A-levels.
Its very engaging and is something I would have enjoyed as a kid too. Filled with fun, random facts with myth busting (obvs) of the presidents – children will absolutely learn without even realising it! Not to mention the amount of fun facts that kids will want to remember and share with each other.
Also, as someone with dyslexia I often find these types of books difficult to follow but the text was perfectly chunked to keep me on the page and in a very accessible font that helped keep me grounded in the words. This will be great for young readers!!! 5/5 read
This is such a cute and fun way for children to learn the names of the presidents and facts about them and history surrounding their lives. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
Presidents is a fun book about facts and myths regarding the White House, the presidents, vice presidents, first ladies, and their pets. You learn about each president from George Washington to Joe Biden. The book ends with a glossary of words used in the book, which is helpful for kids who might be unfamiliar with those terms. The illustrations are fun, and the book is fantastic for kids interested in the US presidents along with adults who might have certain myths about the presidents and want to know if they are actually true.
I really loved this book. Even thogh i'm not an american, i find it fascinating to read and learn about the political system and history in other nations. It includes infomation such as facts about all the presidents, the first ladies, and the presidential pets. All written and presented in a way that is easy for children to understand.
The style of illustrations is so cute. It gives the presidents such a cartoony vibe that is so cute. It helped keep the attention of my cousin when i was reading it to her. The illustrator was able to fit so much of the presidents individual characterisms through the art.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
I’m a grown up and I loved this book. I know it’s aimed at children but I have learned so much about the Presidents of the United States over the years and also dispelled some myths about some of them that we all think must be true. This is a lovely book for anyone who wants to learn more.
A fun and informative book on an otherwise boring subject for children? Yes, please.
This is an engaging and accessible book debunking the myths and misconceptions about US Presidents and vice presidents.
Whether which fact or accounting is the correct one (perhaps both, all, none are true) matters less. The idea that being critical, analytical, doing your research, and sometimes being aware that there are several perspectives of the truth - oh, heck, what am I saying? This book is fun.
Not only fun and entertaining but, shh, educational, too. I absolutely loved this book. As a history major and teacher, it made my reading heart happy. I liked the overall design and illustrations which seemed to lead readers in a logical, flowing manner. Now, true, there's nothing stopping you from letting your eyes and interest dart here and there, I know mine did, but for those who crave a loose but orderly manner, it'll work nicely. Author Eric Huang keeps his narrative relatively succinct, with text frequently found in boxes, while artist Sam Caldwell's illustrations are realistic enough to let your differentiate between the presidential characters shown but with a touch of whimsy, too. Overall, it's a setup that should appeal to both young and adult readers. Yes, adults will enjoy this one, too, and, dare I say it, are likely to learn a thing or two, too.
I won't spoil the discoveries to come for you but will share a few teasers. Like which president could have probably easily mended a hole in your sock? Who was the first president actually born a US citizen? Who started the White House library? (I guessed Jefferson. Wrong.) Which president once graced the cover of a magazine as a model? When did the White House officially become known as the, well, White House? Who..... oh, enough teasers. If you're interested in history, this book will have something for you as it covers all the presidents through President Biden. The First Ladies and Vice-Presidents get their due, too, as do the multitude of White House pets. You'll be amazed at some of the pets kept through the years.
Finally, there's a timeline, a map showing the birth state of each president, and a glossary. All nicely presented and informative. Wait to you see which president was practically born on the border between two states! Thanks #NetGalley and #QuartoPublishingGroup for given me a sneak peek at this fun, entertaining book. I'm sure I'll be browsing it a few more time until I can get my hands on a print copy.
As a history major, this book was FUN! I loved all the interesting facts that were brought up from start to finish. It was wonderfully done! Laid out well and just a great book.
The layout of this book is fantastic, there is so much information without it feeling to much because the illustrations and facts are set out in a way that flows really well. This was very informative and engaging and I love the addition of the presidential pets
Highly recommend this book if you enjoy history.
Absolute fun and interesting facts.
I carpool with my dad in the mornings to work and I was so excited to quiz him and fact check him. He enjoyed it as well! Made for a fun car ride.

As a fifth grade teacher, I’m always looking for engaging books on presidents and politics. In a time of a lot of political tension, I am especially careful to choose books that are positive, have great artwork, and don’t have a partisan slant. This book fits the bill perfectly.
One of the main premises of the book is to identify false stories and assumptions about presidents (and even the White House itself) that people commonly believe and share the truth. These are all child appropriate, for example the story of Thomas Jefferson introducing ice-cream to the USA. I love this because it helps children develop media literacy and critical thinking skills.
The book goes through each president, up to Biden, and gives fun facts on all of them. There are also interesting and informative sections on Vice Presidents, First Ladies, and even pets.
This book would be a great asset for any upper elementary classroom.
Presidents presents information about all the presidents of the United States as well as the White House, vice presidents and the first ladies. The information is presented in a unique format as it is done through dispelling common myths about US politics and presidents and describing the truth about the events/facts in question.
I really loved the format of this book and thought it was very clever and original. The information included was really interesting and as someone who knows very little about US history and politics, I learnt a lot from this book. My favourite section was the one about the presidents' pets which have lived in the White House. I liked Eric Huang's writing style as it made politics seem fun and engaging when usually books about politics can be dull and boring.
Sam Caldwell's illustrations really helped to bring this book to life. I particularly liked the drawings in the timeline of US presidents as seeing the past presidents drawn in colour helped my get a sense of their personalities and bought them to life more than the black and white photographs that we are accustomed to do.
Overall I really enjoyed and think it would be a great way for both kids and adults to learn more about US presidents!
Okay I was really interested in this one, as someone who doesn't live in the US and knows the bare minimum about their presidents!
I really like the way they've set this out to make it really easily digestible. I also like the rumour crushing aspect, but I'm too lazy to fact check everything so I'll just have to trust this *absolutely not-peer reviewed book* for now! I really like how it was in chronological order too, making it really easy to follow!
Also the art is stunning and really adds to the feel!
