Building a life for herself on a small island town off the coast of North Carolina, Piper Cloud is just looking to finish her second novel and not think about the ghosts of her past. And sure, maybe working at a coffee shop in her 30s wasn’t her ultimate dream, but she’s content… ish. At the very least, she enjoys distracting herself with the surfers outside her window—until one of them ends up in her coffee shop and her world tilts on its axis.

Saint Hawthorn is running from his own ghosts as part of a security detail team for the nation’s elite. Atoning for the decisions he made after his sister’s murder, he spends his days leading his men into hostile environments as a way to chase the adrenaline and forget about his grief. But then he walks into the Beach Bodega and finds himself face to face with a lavender haired beauty who steals his breath—and makes him question everything he’s been chasing.

What begins as an innocent meet-cute from an altercation in Piper’s coffee shop quickly turns into both of their ghosts coming to haunt them with the past, pushing them into a storyline they never saw coming. Running from a leader of a Christian nationalist sect who now has Piper’s name on his hit list, she has to decide if she will give into the magnetic pull of Saint, a man determined to keep her and her best friends’ safe while fighting his own grief.
