This mystery/thriller should be a definite spend for anyone reading this review. Originally published in Dutch, nominated in Netherlands for an Audience Award NS(Netherlands book of the year) and deftly translated by Jordan Sowle, is truly a roller coaster ride experience. Story ebbs and flows , plot pacing calms, then pauses, slowly building up to a crescendo as reader tenses and waits for the next thrilling twist or event to pounce upon one. I want to read more books by this author!
For those that love forays into travel fiction, this will not disappoint as places like Nice and Majorca are members of the cast. It is the story of a woman that with her husband take a cruise along the Mediterranean to celebrate their fifteenth wedding anniversary. When the husband vanishes overnight in the middle of the sea, she first accepts her widowhood until information ultimately pushes her to seek answers.
Suzanne Vermeer books consistent have been best sellers in native Netherlands in Dutch. This is a first appearance of any of the books in English. Unfortunately at this time it is my understanding that the book will only be available in eBook form. It was revealed only when another Dutch born best selling thriller author, Paul Goeken, passed away in June of 2011 that he was the actual author of the Suzanne Vermeer travel themed mystery thriller series.
