Description

A career woman in Manhattan. Her small-town husband. The ghost of a hunky screen icon...Welcome to the comic romantic novel, Dating Cary Grant.

Tracy Connor is mulling over what to do about her marriage, her career and her life. While she's mulling, she moves out of her family home in quiet Cukor, Connecticut and sublets a small apartment in a brownstone in Turtle Bay, Manhattan. There she meets – and becomes great friends with –the ghost of her film idol, Cary Grant. He’s the best kind of friend to her, a man who appeals to her on every level, and man she's always regarded as “Mr. Perfect”.

Cary proves a very charming and pragmatic ghost who only she can see, and he has a co-conspirator on page, a certain red-haired screen legend named Kate, who spars with him as she opines and helps show Tracy the errors of her views on men, marriage, and just what real love is all about.

DATING CARY GRANT "...the author went into the mind and lives of Tracy and Mike in such a way that you could really relate to both of them. I could really understand each of them and how they had gotten to this point in their marriage. It really is a love story, not just a break up story, and It was so well written and had unique plot, that I just couldn't put this book down until I had finished it. I loved it, and I loved the way it ended and for any of you who are looking for a fun, yet serious in a way, romance, this one is for you." Long and Short Reviews

DATING CARY GRANT: "Fantasy and reality blend together in this mesmerizing tale from Emelle Gamble. I had a hard time putting it down, even as my eyes were getting dried out and closing from exhaustion....It's not your typical romance, making it a breath of fresh air in a market currently inundated with new adult contemporary romances (which I do love, but need a break once in a while!). I continue to be a fan of this author..." Andi's Book Reviews

When I read the synopsis for this book, I couldn't decide whether I was intrigued or horrified. I mean, really, the ghosts of Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn offer a woman relationship advice??? But since Grant & Hepburn are my all-time favorite actor and actress, I guess the question of whether or not I'd read it probably had a foregone conclusion. To my delight, it was quite entertaining, and even though it relies on stunt casting, they were used rather effectively without becoming farcical. This is really the story of marriage and the compromise involved in making one successful. In this case, the marriage is between a classic movie-loving Manhattanite and an idealistic small-town Connecticut mayor. She's tired of the hour-long commutes and always coming in second to his constituents, so she leases an old apartment in the city while they decide what's going to happen with the marriage. Her neighbors turn out to be the aforesaid spectral entities, who help her work out what love really means and give her a taste of what life with "Mr. Perfect" would really be like. Essentially, this is a study in how to recognize what one truly needs to be happy and how dreams can change to become something different, but not lesser, in the name of love. Regardless of the method used to convey the message, it's nice to read a romance that recognizes and promotes mature relationships, not just the rush of lust at first sight and the assumption that happily ever after is a given. As a recovering TCM addict myself, I also enjoyed all the classic movie references and the way they were worked into the story.

Loved It!
This is a great book, I loved it. Tracy loves her job and classic movies, she is married to Mike but they are currently separated. Tracy meets her sexy neighbor Philip, who lives downstairs from her and he is charming, funny and looks just like her favorite TV actor Cary Grant. This book was an enjoyable read that takes us through Tracy and Mike’s rocky marriage and how important it is for the husband and wife to meet each other half way to save their marriage. This is a modern day sweet romance, which has some mystery, and sexy Cary Grant. I highly recommend this book to someone who loves a good romance. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.

This book was a granted wish from the publisher via NetGalley.
The reason i wished for this book in the first place was of course the title, i didn't even read the summary, who wouldn't want to date Cary Grant!
The idea of having a neighbour as charming as your favorite Hollywood actor was definitely enticing and in many scenes i found myself laughing so hard at the various encounters of Tracy with this neighbour who looks and acts so much like Cary Grant.

I enjoyed the boom a lot. i liked the fact that, under all the humour and the funny misfortunes of Tracy, it actually touched some deep topics. The complicated relationships of married couples, the compromises, the eternal "my prosperous career over my marriage or working on my marriage and letting go of my dreams" Dilemma for both sexes, as well as the problems of Reality TV and the occasional trashy topics they come up with.
It did not feel just like a nice funny romance but it had some deep dimension to it and i liked that.
The characters were also interesting and funny and i found myself involved in their lives, trying to imagine how the end would be, what kind of compromise they would find and all that.

Overall this was a very entertaining and enjoyable book and one of the results of reading it is that i ended up with a rather long list of movies featuring Cary Grant that i absolutely need to watch soon.
