Description
"Melissa Ferguson delivers yet another sparkling, laugh-out-loud romance!" --RaeAnne Thayne, New York Times bestselling author
She’s written dozens of smash-hit romance novels. Too bad no one knows it.
Aspiring author Bryony Page attends her first writers conference bursting with optimism and ready to sell her manuscript with long-shot dreams of raising awareness for The Bridge, her grandmother’s financially struggling organization where she teaches ESL full-time. But after a disastrous pitch session, she stumbles into correcting another author’s work in a last-ditch attempt to make a good impression with the agent. And she, as it turns out, is spot on.
No one is more surprised than Bryony when the agent offers her the opportunity to be a ghostwriter for Amelia Benedict, popular rom-com novelist. Bryony agrees on one condition: she’ll write books for this vain, demanding woman just as long as Jack Sterling, literary agent of the legendary Foundry Literary Agency, works to sell her own book too.
What nobody predicted, however, was that Bryony’s books would turn Amelia Benedict into the Amelia Benedict, household name and bestselling author with millions of copies sold around the world.
And just like that, the Foundry Agency can’t let her go.
But on a personal note, Jack is realizing he can’t either.
Don't miss the delightful romantic comedy, The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson, a story of two seemingly mismatched hearts brought together by fate, proving that sometimes, the perfect love story is hidden in the pages of a well-loved book.

This book is an absolute delight! With witty banter, a touch of romance, and a fascinating look behind the literary curtain, this is a must-read for anyone who loves a feel-good story.

An ESL teacher at a small, struggling organization called The Bridge takes it within herself to write the perfect novel of how the organization came about. In order to save it from years of dwindling funds, budget cuts, and fading grants, she attends a writers conference to get someone to take it on. In her exuberance, she covers multiple genres, writes almost 150,000 words (twice the industry norm), and tries her best to pitch it to publishers at a convention to vast disinterest.
She meets with her last chance, a ruthless top of the line publisher who doesn't want to be there, and he dismisses her within 5 minutes. She stubbornly stands up for her work, and in a moment of challenge, he tasks her to find fault in a wildly successful authors book he has on his laptop. She reads it and, in sheer desperation, tells the truth. All of it is wrong. It's shoddy writing and awful, and she details what needs to change, tosses her business cards at him, and walks away in tears.
Little does she know this is the start to an entire new chapter of her life as a ghostwriter, forever on the hook to wait for her own work to see the light of day.

I greedily devoured this book in one sitting. I've never read this authors work before, but I was charmed by her characters before the end of the first chapter.
Seeing the friendship with Jack in its full blossom as she becomes a ghost writer for his horrendous client was entertaining. I could empathize with watching her describe the push and pull of being a peace keeper and pushover, and fighting her own bitterness of her work being credited to an awful person who doesn't care about it. The entire time, quietly being told, staying in the shadows suits her perfectly fine and to carry on while she pushes it down.
There are nods to Jack keeping a secret, being a master at manipulation, but also being deeply affectionate for her. Seeing the juxtaposition of her own long-distance partner who she hasn't seen in years being a neutral force and not present for her life. Yet Jack being an openly manipulative and convincing force, twisting and turning his words and her perception, yet being there for every moment was so oddly satisfying. He was never presented as the hero, and she never really regarded him as such, which made his actions stand out so much stronger than his words. He eventually works his way into her heart, and she convinces herself this is friendship, for it all to fall apart with massive lies and betrayal.
This book made me so genuinely root for the lead, and I loved it when we slipped into Bryony's eyes and saw the world around her in her author voice. It makes you wish you could read the books she details with so much emotion and description. You could feel the fourth wall of the author herself describing her love of books and characters and descriptors, and it made this such a warm read.
Seeing Bryony sacrifice her joy and work and all that was important to her for a last hurrah, and then to have that perfect conclusion? Exactly what made this book 5 stars for me.
There honestly isn't a single part of this that I could find glaring fault with. It was a cozy read, with interesting characters and a sweet friendship and love that wasn't overly saccharine. I'd recommend this to anyone who needs to break their way out of a reading slump and find the joy of a good book again!

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing - for the digital ARC copy. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I loved this rom com about a rom com ghostwriter. Bryony's emotional development mirrored that of her writing development which I thought was a great parallel. I wish there had been a touch more backstory to Amelia as a character, but the other side characters were a big add to the story, especially the assistant. As a love interest, Jack was both a good friend and also a champion of Bryony's writing!

A sweet romance about an author and her secret
Bryony Page is dreaming of publishing her own book. But since none of the agents will accept her lengthy manuscript, she accepts an offer to ghostwrite for one of the biggest romance authors in the genre. While getting closer to her agent Jack, she doesn't lose sight of her original goal of releasing a semi-biographical novel that could well save her Grandmother's ESL school.
I breezed through this book! The dialogue is snappy, the protagonist stubborn but very likeable and the love interest a perfect friends-to-lovers hero. The book is on the shorter side but does not have a dull moment. Melissa Ferguson crafts very memorable characters and while she is not big on descriptions, she makes the bits count. This book is funny, serious, frustrating and rewarding!
I am not sure about the publishing interna, but would be happy to recommend this even to people who know the industry a little more intimately.
There are some elements that are a little bit far fetched and a few characterisations that felt very over-the-top but overall, this book is a fantastic read for romance lovers, aspiring writers and people looking to see that their antagonists get what they deserve. Because all's fair in love and business..

So, so, so good! Devourable! "The Perfect Rom-Com" by Melissa Ferguson kept me turning pages all night long. All the feels, drama, laughs and depth that you're looking for.
Ferguson's protagonist, Bryony Page, whose journey from aspiring author to secret ghostwriter is both inspiring and entertaining. Her dedication to her grandmother's ESL program adds depth to her character, making her instantly endearing to readers.
The author's keen understanding of the publishing industry shines through in the vivid descriptions of writers' conferences and the intricacies of book deals. This insider's perspective adds an extra layer of authenticity to the story, making it a must-read for both romance enthusiasts and aspiring writers alike.
The chemistry between Bryony and Jack Sterling, the literary agent, is palpable and electric.
Ferguson's writing style is crisp, witty, and engaging.
In short, Melissa Ferguson has penned a winner with "The Perfect Rom-Com." It's a book that deserves a place on every romance lover's shelf. Highly recommended!

THE PERFECT ROM-COM by MELISSA FERGUSON is an enjoyable read with unforgettable characters, witty dialogue and the author’s great insight into her characters’ emotions. There were times when I laughed out loud and others when I was close to tears!
The story starts with Bryony Page at the last day of a writer’s conference where she desperately wants to encourage one of the agents to take on a manuscript that she has been working on for two years. She is emotional about the story about her grandmother and the school for immigrants that she started and where Bryony teaches English. The school has run out of funds and she hopes her book will create an interest and bring in investors to keep the school going. She has two chances of trying to persuade Jack Sterling to take her book, but he has other ideas for her literary career ……
Other interesting characters are Bryony’s intensely loyal, incredibly amusing, court reporter sister, Gloria, the foreign students with their loyalty and interesting English, and the narcissistic Amelia Benedict, to name a few.
i am not going to tell you any more as I do not want to spoil things for you.
I highly recommend this “perfect rom-com” which I found quite inspirational as well as hilariously amusing.
I was given a free copy of the book by NetGalley from Thomas Nelson. The opinions in this review are completely my own.

Such a fun book! I devoured it and enjoyed every minute. Get ready to jump into the world of publishing with all of its quirks and behind-the-scenes drama. Bryony Page, rom-com ghostwriter, ultimately finds her own success in more ways than one. Highly recommended.

When Melissa's newsletter mentioned a new book, I could not wait to read it! I have enjoyed all her books so far and knew this one would not disappoint. I inspected Netgalley every other day in fear of missing out on the advanced copy. When it finally appeared and I was thankfully approved, I immediately downloaded it and jumped right in. That opening sentence - It was a dark and stormy night - is such an epic first line. Its fame in the literary world, and familiarity amongst my little family, brought a contented smile to my face.
The Perfect Rom-Com follows Bryony (such a lovely and unique name!) and her journey into becoming an author, albeit as a ghostwriter. It is such a fun read, yet filled with meaningful moments too. The history and motivation behind Bryony's story is deeply touching. The author shares some interesting terms used in the publishing world, ghostwriter being the most intriguing.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

'The Perfect Rom-Com' is a wildly entertaining romance novel about 2 workaholics in the publishing industry with a nightmare celebrity. Bryony Page is the kind of lead you can root for: honest, compassionate, a bit insecure, and whose passion is to save a nonprofit that helps refugees/immigrants. Jack Sterling, her boss, is a morally complex character for much of the novel, yet his pining after Bryony was so sweet and thoughtful. Though I am not a writer, I liked taking a peek behind the curtain into the world of ghostwriting, the woes of first-time writers, and other industry drama.
If you enjoy reading clean contemporary romance novels, then I recommend this book to you!
Special thanks to the Publisher, Thomas Nelson Fiction, and Net Galley for a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Okay, I loved this one! The Perfect Rom-Com has Two Weeks Notice vibes but make it bookish, and I absolutely devoured this as a beach read! The dynamic between Jack and Bryony worked so well! It was a subtle romance done in the best way!
(My only complaint is I still have no idea how to pronounce the heroine's name. HA!)
Honestly, this author's books are a little hit-or-miss for me, but this one is my new favorite! I could see myself rereading for sure.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

This was a hard one to put down. And when I did, I kept thinking about it and had to pick it back up! I had a stupid grin on my face half the time I was reading it. I adored the characters and now I have a book crush on Jack. It wasn’t sappy, smutty or full of angsty misunderstandings for which I am grateful. Ferguson is the Queen of contemporary romance. I love all of her books. Write on Ms. Ferguson!

First of all, can we talk about that beautiful cover? Prepare to be even more hooked when you open it! This was a cozy, witty, lovely Rom-Com.

Bryony Page has a wild ride trying to navigate the publishing world!
Bryony, an aspiring author and all-around dream chaser, heads to her first-ever writers' conference, hoping to sell her manuscript. Things take a turn when her pitch completely bombs, but she ends up saving the day by correcting someone else's work and impressing a big-shot agent, Jack.
Next thing you know, she’s got an offer to ghostwrite for the Amelia Benedict, a famous rom-com author.
I loved this book!
It’s got that perfect slow-burn romance which is my favorite!
Bryony’s journey through the cutthroat publishing world was fascinating, but watching her grow as a person and fall for Jack? The best!
If you’re into slow-burn romances, you’re going to adore this one.
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson fiction for this ARC.

I want to give this book 50 stars!!!!! I'm not even completely finished with it yet, but chapter 13 and 14 are some of the best stuff I have EVER. Read in my entire rom com reading life. When I tell you I literally stopped and did a silent squeal and got my hand repeatedly on the bed in glee. My goodness!!!! THAT IS LOVE. I am unwell In the best possible way. This for sure is going to be a re read for me and go on my top ten fave romance books. I am deceased in a puddle of ooey gooey Lord please give me a love like that bliss.

Aspiring writer Bryony has a double dream- to get published, and to save the non-profit where she teaches ESL classes to immigrants and refugees.
She’s penned a book about the history of the organization and hopes that by selling it she can raise the money to keep the center afloat. Despite facing numerous rejections, Bryony remains determined and optimistic. Then she meets notoriously difficult literary agent Jack who presents her with an unexpected opportunity: to be a ghostwriter for a big-name romcom author. Bryony agrees, under the condition that Jack will also represent her own book.
Over the years, their professional relationship blossoms into a close friendship, but Bryony becomes increasingly frustrated writing for someone else's fame and glory, while her own novel remains unpublished, all while the threat of her beloved community center's closure looms ever closer. When Bryony attends a promotional tour with the obnoxious author she writes for, Jack tags along and their bond turns from platonic to romantic. However Jack has been harboring secrets that jeopardize their newfound relationship and Bryony’s dreams.
This slowburn romcom is full of fun banter, loveable characters, community and family connections, and most of all, heart.

This story has the perfect name, as it is hands down the perfect rom-com. (Can I give it more than 5 stars?!)
Melissa Ferguson has a way with words to bring you all the feelings for these characters. The little insights into the worlds we are not a part of like the publishing industry are so thoroughly explained and handled that anyone can understand and follow along, and root for these fake people! I am so happy with the ending, it was the perfect bow on the great journey. I will indeed need to grab a copy of this when it is released! NO NOTES

I must say this book was written perfectly and had me hooked from the first chapter all the way to the epilogue. Even the pace that this book went set the tone for how everything should pan out and left you wanting more every chapter. Im just so proud of Bryony and everything that she was able to accomplish throughout her journey of this book.

This book had the heartwarming, fun vibe with lovable characters and witty dialogue that kept me hooked the whole time. Bryony and Jack’s friends-to-lovers romance gave me all the feels, and the blend of humor and emotion was spot on. I have to give so much praise to the author for her incredible style, story, and characters! This book was an absolute joy to read, and I can't wait to see what she writes next!

Melissa Ferguson is a new to me author and this will NOT be the last time I read her books. She did not disappoint! I loved this book sooo much! Off to go see what else I can read from Melissa now.

5 stars!
I could not put this book down. This was such a cute and fun read!
Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a temporary digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

I know before I turn the first page of a book written by Melissa Ferguson, that I will love it, and that I must allow plenty of reading time, since most likely it will be difficult to put down. So very true for this delightful story.
Bryony works at The Bridge, fulltime, teaching English as a Second Language. Her grandmother founded The Bridge, that now has major financial challenges. Bryony also desires to be an author and has written a book, that details The Bridge, however, she’s not been successful at getting it published. She’s told it has far too many characters and is about 150,000 words too long. She disagrees however and continues to experience failure whenever she does get an appointment to pitch her book.
After being turned down yet again, Bryony turns around and marches right back into the agent she was given 15 minutes with because she still has 12 minutes, and a few seconds left. The result of her perseverance doesn’t help her case any with her book, however, it does land her a job as being the ghostwriter for a well-known women’s author.
As I got further into the book, I was cheering Bryony on. Her ghostwriting stories are a huge success, although the author taking all the credit becomes more difficult each day. There are many twists and turns, a bit of romance, and some unforgettable characters I’ll be thinking about for quite a while. This is a beautifully written, heartwarming story.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All comments and opinions are my own.

Loved this cute and short love story. The comedy was there and OK. It is also relatable to modern day stories.

Just when I think that Melissa Ferguson can't surpass her previous works she offers me something as wonderful as 'The Perfect Rom-Com'. This book is an absolute delight! The author's profound way with words in many instances touches me with their beauty and truth, and I add them to a quote list I keep for when I want to feel inspired about the goodness in life. There is humor, romance and exposure to the literary and publishing world that all combine to bring about a joyful experience. I enthusiastically recommend this to one and all!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

Wow, I really enjoyed this book. It was frustrating in a good way; I hated to see the main character struggle and only wanted her to pursue her dreams the entire novel. I wasn’t sure how much I would be able to take from Amelia if I was the main character. The storyline had me hooked from the very beginning. The banter and slow build (well from Bryony’s side) between the two love interests was very entertaining. Such a cute, closed-book romance, with a (SHOCKER) happy ending.

Ghostwriting romance novels for a demanding diva? Check. Falling for a literary agent? Double check. Bryony Page's life just got a whole lot more interesting!
This book is a fun, flirty ride from start to finish. Bryony's a relatable heroine who's just trying to make it big as an author, but ends up ghostwriting for the infamous Amelia Benedict instead. And let's be real, Amelia sounds like a total pain in the butt. But hey, it's a small price to pay for success, right?
Enter Jack Sterling, the swoon-worthy literary agent who's got Bryony's back. Their banter is witty, their chemistry is real, and their romance is swoony. But what really gets me is how Bryony stays true to herself throughout the whole wild ride. She's got spunk, she's got heart, and she's got a whole lot of sass.
This book's a must-read for anyone who loves romance, writing, or just a good laugh. Trust me, you won't regret it!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I requested an arc of this book after I read Meet Me in the Margins. I absolutely loved that book and couldn’t wait to read another by Melissa Ferguson.
The Perfect Rom-Com didn’t disappoint. I read this book in a matter of days. I couldn’t wait to find out how it played out. I cared about the characters and was deeply invested in their journeys. Melissa Ferguson, for me, is now an auto-buy author. Highly recommend!

This really was the perfect Rom-Com. Melissa Ferguson did it again with a heartwarming story of love and sacrifice. This book was so magnetic. I loved the friends to lovers from the main characters. This is truly her best work so far. You can feel the personal point of view she brought writing about an ESL teacher turned writer. What a beautiful story!

“But as often happens in life, the greatest joys and greatest struggles tend to be delivered to your doorstep in the same basket. And it’s up to you to dissect the two and embrace the good without letting the bad overcome.”
Another keeper by Melissa Ferguson. I really liked the speed of this book. When I first read the summary I wondered how it would all fit, but it was masterfully done. And (ahem) it also gives you a little glimpse into the ghostwriter world 🤫
Thanks to @netgalley for the ebook at not cost in exchange for a review 😉

Oh. My. Goodness. What a stand out book! It has slow-burn romance, it has a villain that you just love to hate, it has relatable main characters and it moves at the perfect pace... And the ending is the very best part!
This is a really well-written romance and I devoured it in a couple of days. I'll be honest - before I read this, I was expecting a mediocre romance. I wasn't super intrigued by the ideas. It sounded not very exciting - a book about the inner workings of publishing? Yawn!
But the way Melissa Ferguson has taken her ideas and perfectly executed them is just *chef's kiss.*
Just you wait - this is a high quality, well written romance on par with some of the most popular writers in the genre.
I will be looking forward to reading other work by this author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Absolutely loved this book! Worth reading again & again. Has all the feels for a great movie, #Melissa Ferguson has done it again - written a book that will have you laughing, crying, hoping, wishing and sighing. This book was provided by Net Galley, Melissa and her publisher for me to read. These are my own opinions.

I always adore books about authors, and nobody does it like Melissa Ferguson! This book was everything I could ask for - truly the perfect rom-com!
You feel like you're about to read a classic enemies to lovers when this story starts, but then Melissa pulls you in another direction! I had such a fun time reading this story, and I fell head over heels for these characters. I fell in love with The Bridge and I so appreciated the depth that piece of the story added. It was beautiful (and even felt a little meta at times thinking about the beauty of deeper issues in rom-coms while reading about a deeper issue in a rom-com!)
This book made me so happy, and felt like a cozy warm hug. It will only make your heart happier to add it to your shelf.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for my honest thoughts.

The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson is a wonderful escape into a truly captivating, heartwarming story. This stories’ wit and humor captured me from the start and the characters stole my heart. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a sweet, funny, and satisfying read.

Congratulations to the author for writing a perfect rom-com.
This book is smart and filled with funny and emotional moments. I was laughing out loud and trying to find any free moment to get back to reading this.
I liked everything about it- the plot was credible, the character growth amazing and the humor was right up my alley.
Jack and Bryony are soulmates in every possible way and the details that went into all of their interactions were very appreciated.
Thank you netgalley and the author for the ARC! I had a blast.

This author always has a way to bring a smile to my face with her storytelling.
I loved getting a glimpse into the fictional world of book publishing. Bryony was a character who put her family and her job first and it showed in everything she did. I loved her sister, Gloria, and how she knew how to encourage her in whatever situation she was in. Jack was an interesting character who the reader wanted to get behind.
Thanks to netgalley and Thomas Nelson fiction for the arc. The opinions are my own.

It was different from the books I usually read nut it was so good. I really enjoyed reading it sm. The concept was so good. I was hooked from the start.

This story is so cute! I loved the characters, though Amelia is awful in the story! Otherwise, I love how the other characters developed as they got to know one another and Bryony grows in her writing. If you are looking for an adorable rom-com, I highly recommend picking this one up!

Wow, I loved this book so much! A fun read with a storyline that felt unique. I really enjoyed the characters and storyline and this one kept me up late to finish it.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC.

Everything about the romance in this story feels just right. The main character, Bryony, is a ghostwriter, while the male lead, Jack, is her agent, so their romance unfolds in a workplace setting. Bryony has a lot on her plate, but she handles everything with remarkable effort, giving it her all. She's an incredibly endearing and lovable character with a great sense of humor. Jack, though a bit different in personality, complements her perfectly, making them an ideal match. The supporting characters also add depth to the story, forming a wonderful found family that enhances the overall charm. While there's no explicit content, the story remains heartwarming and enjoyable from start to finish. I had a great time reading it and would definitely recommend it to others. A five-star read for me!
Thank you @netgalley @ourfriendlyfarmhouse for the complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Bryony Page is trying to save her grandmother's organization, The Bridge. In an attempt to raise funds and awareness, Bryony has written a manuscript about her grandmother's life and is trying to get the manuscript published, which has led her to a writers conference. During a last-ditch effort to pitch her book to one of the country's most sought-after agent, Jack Sterling, Bryony leaves the conference not with an offer for her manuscript, but with an offer to ghostwrite for one of Jack's famous authors. While Bryony is surprisingly successful as a ghostwriter and her relationship with Jack grows, she wants and needs more as the Bridge's financial situation has quickly deteriorated.
This was an easy five stars for me. I absolutely loved this book. The writing is sharp and quick-witted. The writing style reminds me of Emily Henry or Abby Jiminez with less spice but with the same wit and easy-to-read style. I found the banter between Bryony and Jack endearing, engaging, and entertaining. I liked Bryony's character, I found her relatable, realistic, and smart. I was invested in the outcome of Bryony's story and kept me reading well past my bedtime. I liked the inside perspective that surrounds the publishing industry, and it was a unique storyline that I have not seen before. I really, really enjoyed this book and will be grabbing some of Melissa Ferguson's other books.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for the free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this book! The writing style was perfect and easy to read! This book is perfect for summer time and it was so addictive!

Beyond wants to be a writer so desperately, that she agrees to ghost write. The author she ghost writes for becomes incredibly famous. Of course, the literary agent is Mr wonderful. What’s a girl to do?

I kept putting this off because I knew once I started I wouldn’t be able to quit. And boy was I right!
This book….these characters….its perfect! There were bits that made me think of Singing in the Rain, bits that felt like…well I can’t even think of a romcom villain as off putting as Amelia.
If you enjoy romances, closed door, a peek into the publishing world, and warm fuzzy happy feelings-read this immediately!

"The Perfect Rom-Com" by Melissa Ferguson will be out February 11!! I know that's a long ways to wait but I just had to go ahead and post it so you can all mark your calendars
This book was so good!! The romance between Bryony and Jack was so sweet! I loved their friendship and banter, but I think what I loved most of all was Bryony following her dreams and not givingup!
This also gives some insight on how tough it must be to be an author and believe in your story when no one else seems too. So thankful for all of the authors who never give up and give us these amazing stories to read!
I loved this book so much!!
Thank you @ourcozyfarmhouselife @tzfiction and @thomasnelson for sending me this physical copy!! And thank you netgalley for the digital ARC! I'm sure this is one I will read over and over!!

Melissa Ferguson has outdone herself on this one. This book is heartwarming, thoughtful, and absolutely delightful to read. This is a romance book with amazing characters- with depth! You will care and root for each and every person (except Amelia, for obvious reasons.) In a world of romcoms, it is hard to be original, but this book has done it. 5/5 stars. Honestly, the best book yet from Melissa Ferguson.
Can’t recommend this enough!

I adored this book! I love the MMC and the friendship he had with the MFC. I love the character development, the writing and the other all plot. I was so happy with the ending. I have written a book and really related with the MFC with her publishing journey and experiencing so much rejection in the publishing world and with agents. I will definitely be buying and recommending this book to all my friends.

The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson had me squealing and kicking my feet numerous times. Comedic perfection, and clean but tension-filled romance.
From Bryony and Jack’s first, unrestrained meeting, this story captured my full attention. And you guys…it just kept getting better from there. The flirty banter, the push & pull between the two of them, the pursuit, and my goodness, the ending! 5/5 stars!
I do not want to list the tropes for this one, because I feel like the less you know ahead of time, the better. I was pleasantly surprised by several parts/tropes, and it just made the reading experience that much better. Jack Sterling quickly became one of my top favorite MMCs and Bryony was incredibly relatable. I consumed The Perfect Rom-Com so fast and wanted to immediately wanted to read it again. Absolutely re-read worthy – it is just that good!
I can’t get over how Melissa Ferguson never fails to top her last book. They just keep getting better. I’m usually a Kindle Unlimited and library girlie, but this is one I’ll be purchasing as soon as it is released. Make sure to preorder The Perfect Rom-Com!

Thank you to the author, Thomas Nelson, and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This guy bought her favorite pens as gifts 😭😭😭
Aspiring author Bryony wanted to help fund her beloved organization, The Bridge, where they taught immigrants the English language. Shooting her shot, she attended a convention and as her hope dwindled, she was offered to be a ghost writer for a best-selling author. The catch: Agent Jack needs to help her with her own manuscript.
Oh wow, I have no expectations going into this book, but I throughly enjoyed my reading experience. Didn't expect that there's a time jump but it's okay considering the plot. I love the author's writing style.
We follow Bryony as she spent two years working as ghost writer and seemingly fed up treated low and not getting enough recognition of her work as her works took off. Jack's with her in her journey, as they became tentative friends and more.
I love their banter and it was nice to see them have a lot of history together that they know each others' facial expressions. I was sad to miss out those early dynamic because of the time jump, so they were already familiar with each other a few chapters in.
However, there's some plot twists/background that I turned a blind eye, that's how good this book is. I can't wait to read more from this author.

The Perfect Rom-Com is...dare I say it? The perfect romcom!
It's sweet & wholesome full of heart and laugh out loud moments! Jack & Byrony had excellent chemistry from the beginning of the book, even when they weren't getting along. And once we finally see their friendship develop on page their banter gave major 'Two Weeks Notice/ vibes - and who doesn't want a Hugh Grant/Sandra Bullock-style in a sweet & clean romance??
The plot with Byrony's ESL students added heart to the story in an unexpected way and brought tears to my eyes more than once. I love that Byrony had a deeper motivation for wanting to publish her book and this in turn gave Jack a deeper motivation to both champion her work and protect her.
Full disclosure - I think this book leans a little more chick lit/women's fiction than a full romcom, but there's plenty of romance & humor along with the rest of the plot!
This was my first book by Melissa Fergusson (I know, I know, what have I been doing all this time??!!) but it definitely won't be my last! Her writing style creates a world for the reader to dive into; and she nails the pacing in every scene. Plus, Jack was pretty gosh darn sweet.... I mean, the watch scene??? How cute was that? (you have to read it to get it!)
Excellent book, I can't wait to read more from Melissa Fergusson - I'd love to seen an extended or bonus epilogue of Jack & Byrony in the distant future!
✨ Spice - kissing only
✨ Language - no swearing or foul language
✨ Slow Burn romance
✨ Enemies to Friends to More
✨ Happy Ending!

Talk about the perfect rom-com! This book has laugh-out-loud moments, tender romance, and hilarious situations. Poor Bryony has to endure a lot of grief to be a ghostwriter for a popular "author," and the only consolation is time spent with her agent, Jack. Her situation sets the perfect stage for the ensuing antics of a meddling sister, lovable ESL students, and a diva author who wants to be in charge of a writing process she doesn't actually want to put work into. Bryony's struggles were relatable, and I was invested in her journey; I read most of the book in one day. The ending was absolutely perfect.

What a gem . Maybe one of the best books I have read in 2024 so far . A tear jerker and with funny moments the perfect rom com . Bryony is working at the Bridge her grandmother’s organization where she teaches ESL full-time . When there are no money she believes that the book that she has written which talks about her grandmother dream will help them raise money and save the Bridge . When she meets Jack Sterling literary agent from one of the best agencies her dreams are crushed because he rejects her book , but he offers her the chance to ghost write for the Amelia Benedict .She accepts but only if he becames her agent and she can publish her book . For the next two years all her books are best sellers but the Amelia is very vain and makes a lot of mistakes on her interviews so Bryony has to travel with her to be able to save her from making mistakes . The relationship between her and Jack is more than a writer and an agent while they spent every day together , they eat out together three of four times in a week and he always goes at her bowling games she has with her students from the Bridge . When she learns about a lie Jack told her will she be able to believe him again and even forgive him ? Will she be able to be a publised author with her own name or she will always be a ghostwriter ?
I received this book from netgalley , the author and the publicer as an ARC . Thank you . All thoughts and opinions are my own .

The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson is an absolute delight! I was immediately drawn into the charming story of two characters who are both navigating the ups and downs of love and career. Ferguson's witty writing and humor had me laughing out loud, while the romantic twists kept me eagerly turning the pages. I loved how the book playfully pokes fun at romantic comedy tropes while still delivering a heartfelt romance. It’s the perfect cozy read for anyone looking to escape into a fun, feel-good story!

Okay, this book was so fun and so good! I have loved all of Melissa Ferguson’s books and this one did not disappoint. Bryony and Jack are the best main characters and their relationship is so fun and sweet. The ending was a little different than expected, which I loved!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book was excellent! Jack and Bryony had such a charming romance! I cherished their camaraderie and friendship, but I think what I cherished most was Bryony's perseverance and pursuit of her goals! The characters were endearing and realistic. The story is made light and fun by the humor and the charming side characters. Even though there are some predictable parts, anyone who enjoys romantic comedies will still find it to be a wonderful feel-good read.

*I received a free copy of this ebook from the publisher via NetGalley. My words are 100% my own as is my choice to share a review of this title.
That said, I raced through this book. I loved it. I read it in every spare moment of my day. And then I worried I read it too fast to give an unbiased review.
I was wrong. This was charming and I would happily rave to read it again.
Melissa Ferguson is one of my favorite authors of contemporary romantic comedy with plenty of fun tension, great banter, vivid settings and all without the explicit scenes.
You can read the publishers summary about the plot, but read this if you like to laugh, if you like to live in your imagination, if you enjoy contemporary rom-coms, and if you believe in reading books that leave you feeling happier than when you found them.
This is good-mood material.

I really enjoyed this book! It was a captivating read that held my attention from start to finish. The story was well-paced, and the characters felt real and engaging. I’m grateful to the publisher for providing an early copy—it was a pleasure to read!

The Perfect Rom Com truly lives up to its title! Melissa Ferguson has crafted a story that’s both heartwarming and laugh-out-loud funny, capturing the charm and quirks that make rom-coms so irresistible. The characters are wonderfully relatable, each with unique personalities and hilarious quirks that make them feel real. The banter and chemistry between the leads are spot on, and I found myself rooting for them from the first chapter.
One of my favorite aspects was how Ferguson balances humor with genuine emotional depth, making for a story that’s both light-hearted and meaningful. The plot is refreshingly original, with plenty of delightful twists that keep you hooked. This book was everything I hoped for in a rom-com and more, blending humor, romance, and just the right amount of heart. I can’t wait to see what Melissa Ferguson writes next!

This book is admirable that Bryony will do anything to prevent the Bridge from closing including her being the ghostwriter for the detested Amelia that even though her books may be emulated as ROM coms, doesn't deviate from her being a soulless human being. Bryony is determined to fight for her cause to help those entering the country to have a better quality of life. Knowing that her insufficient income will do so, she takes on the role of ghostwriter as well as touting her own book. During the entire time, she has Jack as her agent and as becomes to realize, her most staunch supporter. I must admit to shedding tears that Penny and Gloria convinced to realize that Jack is her person. She will be a success but to celebrate in that outcome with Jack even makes it better. This book makes one laugh at their sarcastic exchange as well as champion Bryony to fight for what she believed in. Great book. Her and Jack ended up living the perfect ROM com.

Ok this book. Is 100% a 5⭐️ read for me. It had me drawn in all the way until the end. I loved their friendship and then their romance and what he did for her in the end just had me in tears. It was so sweet and Bryony’s journey over the entire course of the book, you could just FEEL IT. This has to be the most real when it comes to authors and their struggles and their first “baby” of a manuscript that they guard with their entire souls and never stop fighting for.
But listen up here…the ending…is amazing. Ohhhh my gosh just the satisfaction of…ooooh everything. Penny is my 3rd favorite character and Albricht a very close 4th 😂. All the characters you can’t help but fall in love with.. well…except for the ONE you know who.
Get this book!
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for this opportunity to provide my honest review.

Melissa Ferguson is a new author for me and I just LOVED this book. The characters were hilarious and overall this was such a fun read!

Synopsis: Bryony Page sets out to make her way as an author, with a heart to help her grandmothers struggling ESL school for immigrants. She ends up as a ghostwriter for Amelia Benedict — heiress to a publishing house throne whose personal knack for cruelty is only rivaled by her inability to care that she is cruel. Truly heinous. Also, Bryony would NEVER do something as stupid as fall for her agent, Jack Sterling… right?
Review: Melissa Ferguson does it again. She writes a book that manages to be funny, romantic, and has depth to the characters and their struggles. “The Perfect Rom-Com” is actually the PERFECT rom-com. Can someone make this into a movie? The pace was great, never a dull moment. Bryony was relatable to every girl who’s ever wanted to accomplish a dream, but doesn’t quite know how to make it come true. She stumbles forward, in a lovable way that made me root for her the whole time. The conflicts and tensions in this book are just the right amount of tense, and I was left wondering how or if Bryony would accomplish what she set out to do. This is a book of hoping against all hope, and daring to keep going, even when it looks like you won’t make it.
For the love of reading (and writing), I urge you to read this book!
Thank you NetGalley, Thomas Nelson, and Melissa Ferguson for the eARC of this book. All reviews reflect my honest opinion.

This was such a great rom-com. :) The perfect Rom-Com perfectly titled. :) I loved Bryony’s character and her drive to do more for her community and her family and follow her dreams as a writer and her incredible dynamic with Jack.
This is a no spicy romance which is perfect for a quick read and all audiences. I absolutely loved the end with the big reveal it was so incredible and I might have cried. :) This is my first Melissa Ferguson book and will be checking out more of her books.
This book comes out in Feb 2025 and I’m so honored to have gotten an advance copy from @netgalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction! I will absolutely be picking up a physical copy when it’s released!!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

I was captivated from the start—I loved this book! The Perfect Rom-com by Melissa Ferguson is precisely that: the perfect rom-com. I was drawn in from the first few lines and laughing by page two. I knew right away that this was going to be a fun ride. Melissa's narrative style and sense of humor are spot-on, and she brings her characters and world to life in a vivid and effortlessly charming way.
Bryony Page, an ESL teacher by day and an aspiring writer by night, crosses paths with Jack Sterling, a no-nonsense literary agent. Bryony's passion project is a sweeping novel inspired by her grandmother's life and dedication to helping immigrants achieve the American dream. When she tries to convince Jack that her book has real potential, he offers her a ghostwriting gig for Amelia Benedict, a best-selling rom-com novelist who craves the spotlight but lacks sustainable writing talent. Jack promises to help Bryony get her book published if she will tackle this new role—a job that sets them on a journey filled with witty banter, heartfelt moments, and a slow-burn connection.
The Perfect Rom-com is witty, delightful, and poignant, and I couldn't put it down. I lost sleep staying up to read "just one more chapter." Bryony and Jack's friendship and evolving relationship had me cheering from the sidelines. This kind of feel-good, page-turning romance hits all the right notes!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Thomas Nelson Fiction. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Melissa Ferguson has done it again. You won't want to miss The Perfect Rom-Com. Full of laughs and sweet moments, Ferguson reminds you why she is so good at what she does. You will definitely want to check this one out!

This book was absolutely amazing!!! 😍 💜
I've always wanted to read a Melissa Ferguson book and I'm glad I started with The Perfect Rom-Com. Jack Sterling is "an ego man. A Peter Pan". But one hell of an intriguing man. Bryony wants to sell her book, but not for fame and money. Through her book, she wants to raise awareness for The Bridge, her grandmother's financially struggling organization.
Fast forward two years and Bryony is a ghostwriter for a famous but empty-headed author and Jack is her agent. Bryony's book is nowhere near being published, but instead, a friendship blossoms between her and Jack. The dynamic and chemistry in their relationship is absolutely addictive. The agent-ghostwriter team would be perfect if it weren't for the fact that the writer Bryony writes for, Amelia, is an absolute bitch. I haven't felt such intolerance for a character in a while, she's terrible!
This book was truly the perfect rom-com 💯
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Publishing - for the digital ARC copy.

What a fun book that got me out of a reading funk! It often takes me a couple of chapters to get into Melissa Ferguson's books and then I love them and don't want the story to end. The Perfect Rom-Com was this way also for me.
Byrony works for her grandma's school teaching English to new citizens and wants to help stabilize the school financially. She wants a very long manuscript about her grandma and sets out to find an agent to sell it. She meets Jack at a conference, and he lets her know no one wants her story, but he ends up with a new deal for her of becoming a ghost writer. Unfortunately, the author she is helping is an unbearable rich celebrity. Jack and Byrony keep the secret going for two years and grow close as friends but have significant others in their lives. When Byrony's boyfriend breaks up, she discovers her true love may have always been by her side.
I enjoyed this romcom but loved that it had another storyline of Byrony's journey to fulfill her dreams of publishing a book under own name. Melissa Ferguson's fans will love her newest story.
I received this book complimentary from NetGalley, but all opinions are my own.

Bryony is an ESL teacher who loves what she does. She also wrote a novel about the experience, and while shopping it around, she finds herself in a position to ghostwrite a romcom, an opportunity that turns into a full time, successful job. Even with all the money she makes from her ghostwriting gig funneling into the Bridge, the SEL school, the business finds itself in financial straights. She struggles under the weight of taking care of the school and the pressure of writing for the infamous Amelia Benedict. (Oh, and there’s a super cute Alex P. Keaton love interest named Jack, and we all love him.)
I really loved this book! It had a real “Two Weeks Notice” feel with cute banter and an adorable cast of characters with The Bridge students. The writing was good and I feel like it would be a fantastic movie. I did wonder about the spotty relationship between her and her boyfriend - that entire situation did not make sense to me. Although this can be billed as a romantic comedy, the story skews more Women’s Literature; the entire story is focused on her growth and character arc, while Jack is a love interest and supporting partner. I definitely recommend this sweet novel - I can’t believe I haven’t read a Melissa Ferguson book before!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.

I received a complimentary copy of The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson, and all opinions expressed in this review are my own. This charming, heartfelt story is a must-read for anyone who adores friends-to-lovers romances! I thoroughly enjoyed and loved this read.
Bryony is the hidden force behind the bestselling rom-coms of the megastar Amelia Benedict. As a ghostwriter, Bryony's identity remains a secret, even to her family, thanks to a non-disclosure agreement she signed. By day, she’s a dedicated teacher at The Bridge, an ESL school for adults, and by night, she’s under pressure to meet tight deadlines while secretly writing books that bring immense success to Amelia Benedict.
At the heart of the story, Bryony faces the challenging task of saving her grandmother’s legacy—The Bridge—from being shut down. She’s determined to ensure the school survives, but balancing her day job, writing career, and personal life proves to be more difficult than she bargained for.
Along the way, Bryony’s agent, Jack, has promised to shop her book about the school's history in exchange for her continued ghostwriting work. But as the story unfolds, the lines between their professional relationship and personal feelings begin to blur. The tension between them, mixed with their shared history and chemistry, adds an irresistible layer to the plot.
If you enjoy novels about friends-to-lovers romance, found family, and characters who are as real as they are lovable, The Perfect Rom-Com will not disappoint. The book is full of heart, and the emotional depth will resonate with anyone who believes in the power of love, friendship, and following one’s passions.
Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy—The Perfect Rom-Com is a delightful read you won't want to miss!

Melissa Ferguson did it again in this adorable romance. I only wish it was a little heavier on the romance. I love books about books and this one was different than any I've read before. The big time gap in the beginning confused me, I was hooked at that point, and then the time jump happened, and I was lost all over again. I would have appreciated a way to tell the story without the jump. Overall, I loved it and thought it was a wonderful story. Thanks to the author and publisher for the ARC of this book!

Book Review: The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson
Melissa Ferguson’s The Perfect Rom-Com lives up to its title by delivering a charming, laugh-out-loud story with just the right mix of humor, romance, and heart. True to its genre, the book explores familiar romantic comedy tropes but does so with a fresh perspective and a delightful twist on expectations.
The story centers on a quirky and relatable protagonist whose journey through awkward mishaps, unexpected encounters, and swoon-worthy moments will have readers both laughing and rooting for her. Ferguson’s writing shines in the way she brings out her character’s vulnerabilities and strengths, creating a heroine who feels genuine and multidimensional.
The romantic interest is equally engaging, with a personality that’s layered and compelling. The chemistry between the two leads is electric, built through witty banter, misadventures, and tender moments that tug at the heartstrings. Ferguson excels at creating tension and payoff, making the romance both entertaining and deeply satisfying.
Another standout aspect of the novel is its lighthearted yet insightful approach to modern romance. Ferguson weaves in themes of self-discovery, the importance of friendships, and the courage it takes to let love in, giving the book emotional depth without veering into heavy territory.
The humor in The Perfect Rom-Com is sharp and perfectly timed, ensuring there’s never a dull moment. From hilariously awkward situations to clever dialogue, Ferguson’s wit keeps the tone playful and fun.

Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)

This book is such a DELIGHT! I just loved reading the story of Bryony & Jack. Bryony is a teacher by day and aspiring writer by night, trying to get her first book deal (writing as herself) and hoping to make enough money to help save a cause that is important to both her and her family. Unfortunately, she has already penned several “hits” just no one is allowed to know, and those that do are kind of getting in her way for one reason or another, until... I LOVED the ending. Check it out. You won’t be disappointed!!

This was a wonderful read that had me hooked from the first chapter. The chemistry between Bryony and Jack was off the charts and I loved their relationship and seeing how it progressed. Amelia was the perfect villain and I loved seeing her get what she deserved at the end of the book. Bryony was a wonderful protagonist and felt like someone I would want to be friends with in real life. She had excellent character growth and I loved seeing her realization that her book was not what she thought it was. I can't wait for this book to be out in the world and know I will be continuing to rave about it!

Love love loved this book!!! Bryony Page is a force to be reckoned with and I became enamored with her immediately. The dynamics between her as a ghostwriter and those working above her were infuriating and I found myself reading just to know for sure in the end, she’d get everything she deserved. Jack was the perfect knight in shining armor. I wish their romance was more in the moment rather than off the page & narrated as past events, but I still really enjoyed the romance aspect of the book.

This was such a fun read! Melissa Ferguson had me chuckling throughout at the witty exchanges between Bryony and Jack, the over-the-top diva "author" was a hoot, and I really enjoyed the whole ESL teacher subplot and the satisfying ending.
I'll be recommending this widely, with the caveat that although there is a will-they-won't-they couple with an HEA in this book, I'd say it's more of a feel-good story that includes some romance than a standard romance novel. If people are looking for something super steamy or that truly focuses on the relationship, this might not be the book for them. Everyone else should dive right in!
Thanks to the publisher and to NetGalley for the opportunity to read a digital ARC in advance of publication.

Thanks to Netgalley & Thomas Nelson Fiction for the E-ARC! So cute!! Loved the banter & the couple. Also loved that this was a closed-door romance. A good palate cleanser. Will definitely read more from this author.

The Perfect Rom-Com is the 5th book I’ve read by Melissa Ferguson. As with her other books, this was a fun, quick story with delightful characters. I loved the friendship that was developed between Bryony and Jack. I think one of the reasons I enjoy Ferguson’s books so much is because she really does give you a combination of romance and comedy, and she does it well while also keeping the stories “clean”. I love that I can recommend her books to anyone. She writes such sweet stories for us to enjoy.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson Fiction and NetGalley for the complementary copy of this book. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

A delightfully meta rom-com about a ghostwriter and her agent featuring some of my FAVORITE tropes - friends to lovers, forced proximity, and he fell first. In addition to lovely written chemistry, what I really appreciated about Byrony and Jack is that at their core they both seemed like GOOD people and you couldn't help rooting for them the whole time. The subplot with her teaching career for students learning English was so lovely and the ending was a pitch perfect rom-com conclusion that had me feeling all the feels. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for allowing me to read an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!
I LOVED this book! I gobbled it up in about a week. It normally takes me longer to finish a book, but this was just perfect - perfect pacing, perfect writing style, engaging story, great characters - so good! I’m officially buying this book when it comes out - it is that good and heartwarming. It’s definitely more of a “glimpses and kisses” romance book, which I don’t always go for but it was sweet how Bryony and Jack’s friendship built up over time and I loved seeing them grow closer. There are so many things I loved about this book, it’s hard to list them all, but here goes….
WHAT I LOVED:
- The Writing Style - Melissa Ferguson has the perfect balance of show and tell in this book. I felt like I could orient myself to each scene quickly without much need for her to be overly detailed or flowery in her prose. This matched well with the medium pacing and made my reading experience so much smoother. I could really get lost in the book thanks to that and quickly move from scene to scene and chapter to chapter without feeling like I needed a break.
- The Characters - These characters were top-notch. Every one of them was well-written and fleshed out with unique personalities, quirks/eccentricities, and relatable flaws and struggles. They felt real and I especially loved getting to hear Bryony’s internal monologue, which was full of humor and relatability. I loved her. Gloria was my favorite though - good lord, she is hilarious and the BEST sister a girl could ask for. I want her in my life, now! Lol! Jack was also well fleshed out and a complex love interest. Amelia and Penny were great as well. Just all around great characterization!
- Witty Banter - I really enjoyed the back-and-forth banter and sarcasm exchanged between Jack and Bryony. Their interactions were funny and it felt like I really was watching a rom-com or sitcom with a hint of romance. They were perfect together and I loved seeing their banter grow from the first time they met to when they became friends and eventually got together. I’m a sucker for the friends-to-lovers trope, and this did not disappoint.
- Humor - From interactions with ESL students to Bryony’s internal dialogue to interactions between her and Jack or her and Amelia, this book made me laugh out loud multiple times with its charming humor. I love it when a book can be heartwarming and funny, and this takes the cake! Again, this had a very real movie feel to it and I loved that so much! I could live in this world forever surviving only on Ferguson’s banter and humor between characters. It’s such a vibe - like watching your favorite sitcom and watching the characters slowly fall for each other.
- Focus on Sweet Small Details - I love it when a book focuses on the small details between the love interests, and Ferguson did this superbly well, capturing the essence of the friends-to-lovers trope: the little things. Jack’s watch, the meaning of certain facial expressions, bowling bags, little food details. The janitor scene! 🥹 It’s those little things that make this book so heartwarming, that make it a five-star read and one I will gladly buy for my bookshelf when it comes out.
- The Pacing - Again, Melissa’s writing is superb. I love the pacing, how the book starts out with the first meeting and moves on to their friendship and goes from there. At first, it seemed a bit jarring but it all makes complete sense now, and I think that time-jump was well done. The movement between scenes and chapters was flawless, in my opinion. I loved how Ferguson moved the plot along at a steady pace, keeping us engaged while slowing down and speeding up at just the right times. Again, at the risk of sounding redundant and cliche, it was perfect! Chef’s kiss!
- Character Growth - The final thing I loved about this book was the character growth. I loved seeing Jack’s character soften and evolve over time, and I also loved watching Bryony’s confidence soar towards the end of the book. The bus scene with Trina was freaking awesome! (Also love you Trina! You always were my favorite! Lol) It really felt like the characters moved forward and grew in big ways, and I loved to see Bryony gaining so much confidence towards the end and going after what she deserved!
- The Cover - This cover is gorgeous! I love the colors and the symbolism with the two tour busses! (IYKYK) Cartoon covers are my fav!
WHAT I LIKED:
I couldn’t think of anything I liked that I didn’t love. It was hard to pick something I didn’t love about this book.
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
Again, I usually have some type of detail or component I don’t like about a book or that I think could be better/done differently that I could point to, even for my beloved five-star books. This one floored me. I have nothing. In fact, the only real thing I would say is that I’m sad it ever ended. I want to keep reading this book forever. Good job, Melissa Ferguson! Brilliant job, actually!
This book is so heartwarming and sweet! Even if glimpses and kisses isn’t your thing, I’d still highly recommend you read it. The plot was great! It really felt like watching a movie and I got completely absorbed in it. Beautiful escapism! I LOVED it! It was gorgeous and I will definitely be reading all of Melissa Ferguson’s other books now! I was surprised to see that I’d already seen some of her covers at the local library and I am now keen to pick them up! Keep writing, Melissa! Your work is fantastic! ❤️❤️❤️
p.s. The main character’s name is Bryony, which I honestly just found out since I’ve thought this entire time it was Byrony LOL! 😂 I think it’s hilarious I read this entire book having switched out those letters and not realizing the entire time.

Bryony has been struggling to get her first book published. After many rejections she surprises herself by getting an offer to be a ghostwriter for a popular socialite author, but only on condition that her agent, Jack, will work at getting her own book published as well.
Bryony’s ghostwriten books are extremely successful, and earn her lots of money, but she really wants to write her own books under her own name.
This book is an inside look at the publishing world as well as Bryony’s journey and developing relationship with her agent Jack.
I really enjoyed the character arc of Bryony and how she learned to stand up for herself. Jack was kind and attentive, but suspect in his motives and manipulations. They both learn a lot about themselves and what’s really important.
A wonderful book that kept my interest clear up to the happy ending.

Loved this! I'm always hooked when I see a rom-com about authors and all those who love reading or are part of the publishing world, and this, like Meet Me in the Margins, is one for the books! (Pun intended).
Bryony feels like what you imagine it would be like to be an unpublished author, but to want that more than anything. Especially if it could save your grandmother's legacy! The romance, the comedy, the love of books, it's all here!

Adored this one! Melissa Ferguson is the queen of feel good rom coms with a great mix of humor and swoon.

The name does not lie people!!!! Rarely do books give me butterflies or make me kick my feet and giggle but I was just so obsessed with the romance in this story, it happens multiple times! Thank you so much for the chance to read this advanced copy!

This was my first Melissa Ferguson book and I look forward to reading more! This book had the perfect amount of cheesy/sappy moments that I love in a Rom Com. Bryony Page was a great character and I feel like I know her after reading this. Definitely recommend!

Melissa Ferguson! This. Is. Adorable!
Bryony is a writer on pursuit to be published. Jack is the best agent there is. They meet at a conference and she has 15 minutes to convince him to publish her book.
In a nutshell he tells her that her book is trash and crushes her dreams but somehow convinces her to be a ghostwriter for one of his famous clients.
A friendship forms…maybe something more and the rest is history!
This one is precious! Five stars and my new favorite by this author.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this as an ARC.

Eeeeeeeh! I wanted to squeal like a schoolgirl on a plane reading this one. It is so cute! And although there is a great romance here, this is also more about identity, personal growth, and living out your purpose. The funny conversations with characters learning English peppered throughout we're just the sprinkles on top of a perfectly iced cupcake. This book was a delight.
Content Note: Parental death (past)
Thanks to Thomas Nelson for the gifted title. All opinions are my own.

I’m going to say it.
The Perfect Rom-Com is quite literally the perfect rom-com. The characters were likable. The story was heartfelt and hopeful and funny. I am so happy I read this book. I can’t wait to recommend it to friends and read all of Melissa Ferguson’s books!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own

I finished this a bit ago and thought I had reviewed but recently realized I had not! This was a good read so this defintely needs a review.
I loved the opening line. I loved the main characters banter and lots of moments I highligthed that were lol The main characters were likeable. He was witty with great dry humor. I loved her inner dialogue. Jack and Byrony were just wonderful together and indiviudally. Gloria was great as a friend to Byrony and their scenes added nicely to the story. A favorite quote: "But as often happens in life, the greatest joys and the greatest struggles tend to be delivered to your doorstep in the same basket. And it's up to you to dissect the two and embrace the good without letting the bad overcome." I could put this in my re-read section.
*great flow to story
*great characters
*great plot
*great dialogue
*subtle and gentle build to their relationship
*he falls first
Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me to read an arc of this book. All opinons are 100% my own.

Bryony Page is determined to get her first novel published...despite it being a confusing mix of genres. It is a story dear to her heart and part of her plan to fund the school her family runs to teach ESL students. Bryony comes to the attention of literary agent Jack Sterling and is hired to be a ghostwriter for a demanding and talentless writer, Amelia Benedict. Bryony agrees, but only if Jack helps her own book find a deal.
The complexities of the publishing world are explored as both a delightful work friendship and personal relationship develop between Bryony and Jack. The side characters (the students, Penny, Gloria, etc.) are enjoyable and add a nice dimension to the story.
There is a very satisfying ending so that Amelia gets what she deserves, and the other characters get their perfect rom-com ending. I will be recommending this book.
Thanks to Thomas Nelson Fiction, Melissa Ferguson and NetGalley for this ARC.

Melissa Ferguson, this might just be my favorite book you’ve written. I was immediately sucked into this one & the style in which Ferguson wrote. The writing here was so fluid & brought these characters to life off the page. I could see each interaction, hear every conversation, and feel every emotion between these characters.
This story is focused on Bryony, an aspiring author who needs an agent so she can publish her book & help save a place that holds a lot of meaning to her. Enter Jack, a literary agent who isn’t drawn in by her book proposal, but loves her attitude and who she is as a person. They strike up this friendship that you just know is going to blossom into something more. This story is all about the journey, though, primarily for Bryony, but also for Jack. It’s hard to describe the emotions these two evoked in me, but I was just completely absorbed by their story.
Did the ending wrap up in a way that was grandiose & slightly unrealistic? Sure.
Did the name Bryony feel like a mouthful every time I read it in my head? It did.
But neither of those things kept me from loving the way this book made me feel…and isn’t that how we should rate books? On the way they make you feel? I loved it.
This one was so vivid in my mind as I read it. I have no doubt this will translate beautifully on audio, as well.
Big thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson (Harper Collins Christian Publishing) for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Be sure you pick this up when it releases in February!

I received a complimentary copy of this book.
Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. I loved Melissa Ferguson's novel, Meet Me In the Margins, so I was excited to be approved by Thomas Nelson Fiction to read The Perfect RomCom on NetGalley. My little book group and I agree that we love when romance books center their story around people working with books. In this case, it is a writer/ghostwriter and her literary agent and sparks fly between them almost immediately when Bryony shocks Jack in quickly fixing a romance novel he was working on. I love how both Bryony and Jack are complicated yet seem right for each other from the start even though they have a lot of differences. I rooted for Bryony to make it as an author on her own terms and for Jack to prove he was always worthy of her.

Bryony Page is an ESL teacher trying desperately to save her beloved organization, The Bridge. She writes a novel based on her grandmother's experience of founding the organization, but has not been able to land an agent at her writing conference. It seems like her hail mary chance is over, but, since she has nothing to lose, why not be bold and brave with this last agent who summarily dismissed her. But instead of discussing her book, he asks her to tell him what's wrong with someone else's book proposal. And with that, she enters into an agreement to ghostwrite a romance book in exchange for representation for her own novel. But, after two years of writing someone else's books, she's no closer to seeing her own on shelves or having enough money to save The Bridge. While forced to go on tour with the author she writes for, things get tense and secrets are exposed. Has Bryony's hope run out? Maybe she'll blow up everything in her life and see what happens.
This story took me on a ride. I had varying emotions about the main character and the side characters but always hoped Bryony would get her HEA. It was full of heart and growth and entertainment. A very fun and endearing romcom.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was a little hesitant going into this book because of the previous books I have written centered on a ghostwriter. It’s been done a lot. But I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this iteration. Maybe it had to do with how the gig came about and the motivation behind it or the fact that it was a means to a specific end. In either case I am glad that I read it. I really liked the relationship between the MCs. I love a good friends to lovers trope. I also loved The Bridge and highlighting how valuable resources like that are to immigrants and refugees, and, in turn, how valuable they are to our society and communities. Such a sweet story!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book was a page-turning quick read! When writer Bryony Page attempts to get agent Jack Stirling to take her as a client and promote her book, he instead offers her the opportunity to act as a ghostwriter for an extremely popular author. After working together, it’s clear that their chemistry goes beyond just being colleagues.
I loved this book so much that I read it in the span of 24 hours! I loved the banter between Bryony and Jack, as well as Bryony’s dedication to her English Language Learning students. This story was wholesome, inspiring, and witty!

Thank you, Melissa, for writing such an entertaining story! The characters from the start captivated me. The banter and action were spot on. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

This truly was the perfect rom-com book. I love the author’s books and couldn’t wait to read this one. So cute, perfect in every way!

I know I say this all the time, but I really mean it this time—I’ve found the perfect romance book!! 🥹✨ This one even had me shedding a tear at the ending (and trust me, that’s rare!). I didn’t realize how much I needed a happy-ever-after story until this beautiful gem landed in my hands.
This aptly named book follows Byron Page, an aspiring writer with a manuscript that’s her heart and soul. Enter Jake, a literary agent who doesn’t take on her manuscript (ouch!) but instead signs her as a ghostwriter for one of the most successful (and most insufferable) authors of the time- Amelia Benedict. As Byron works behind the scenes, cranking out bestsellers for Amelia, a romance begins to blossom between her and Jake.
Heartwarming doesn’t even begin to cover how this book made me feel. My heart is practically bursting with joy. 😂🥹 There’s no spice at all, but it’s still the most romantic book I’ve ever read!
I haven’t cried over a book in five years, so this is HUGE! Byron stole my heart with her passion, grit, and perseverance, and Jake? Let’s just say… 😍😍 chef’s kiss. That ending was pure romance perfection in my books. I’ll stop here before I give away any spoilers. You need to read this!

Brilliant. This has taken the spot of favourite read this year. Highly invested in both of the MCs, irritation and disgust over the antagonist, skin crawlingly horrible woman. I loved being immersed inside this literary world and wished it wouldnt end. I managed to feel the whole range of human emotions throughout, and desperately loved the ESL students and what they brought to the story.

Cannot wait for this book to come out so I can buy my own copy and read it again. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. I liked the characters. I loved that I could see what was going on before the main character could. I liked the way it wrapped up. Melissa Ferguson has worked her way onto my most favorite author list. I look forward to all of her releases. She definitely writes what seems to me to be the perfect rom-com!

The Perfect Romcom is adorable. I love that Melissa's stories, while light and fun, also have a depth to them that gives you something to keep thinking about even after the book is done.
I did struggle with connecting to Byrony for about the first half of the book. She read whinny and needy but she did grow on me. However, Jack and several of the side characters were favorites from the beginning.
All in all, I enjoyed this book.

This was such a delightful read—unexpected yet utterly lovely!
I’ll admit, the first few chapters were a bit of a struggle. Jack was highly unlikable at first, and Bryony was so scared and insecure that I just wanted to shake her! But once I pushed through that, I couldn’t put the book down.
I adored how the story unfolded and how Bryony’s passion and dedication shone through, whether it was for her students, The Bridge, or her stories. Jack’s quiet, unwavering love for her was beautifully portrayed—always supporting her, never overstepping, and standing by her side through the horrendous tantrums of that dreadful "author." It was heartwarming to see how everyone rallied around Bryony when she needed it most.
This book is one I could see myself reading again and again. It’s the perfect pick-me-up for a rainy day.
10/10 recommend!

This book was aptly titled; I found it to be the perfect rom-com! Best yet by Melissa Ferguson, it held my interest from beginning to end with no slow parts. The best part of Ferguson's books are the unique plots and situations her characters encounter, and this one was no exception. I was able to relate to the plot especially well because I am also a writer, but I think Bryony has lots of relatable attributes that anyone could sympathize with. There was just the right amount of struggle, of self-reflection, and of obtuseness in not realizing the romance that was developing. This is the first Melissa Ferguson book I'm giving five stars. I think it is her best one yet.

I absolutely loved this book! The character development was so good, and there were so many moments where I was either laughing, smiling, or doing both at the same time. I absolutely loved the connection Bryony had to the Bridge and how that guided so much of how she lived her life and helped fuel the passion of her writing. I will definitely be recommending this one to all of my reader friends!
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

Exactly the type of rom-com I want to read. Heart is what drives this story, through all the outside struggles and romantic struggles that Bryony and Jack face. I adore this book!
Thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC via NetGalley for an honest review.
Bryony is such an oddball and Jack is secretly one (or is he just so down bad for Bryony?). They are so sweet to each other as friends and humor did ring true through the pages, between them and other characters.
Each character, positive and negative, lives large on the page with a lot of descriptive elements that make them seem familiar, even if stereotypes loom large in this book.
I honestly really liked the big moment of conflict and its resolution in this book. I don’t want my romances to be too fluffy and straightforward and there were clear threads of tension from the beginning that wove together very nicely for their moment of struggle.
Overall, a sappy, love-centered book that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Wow. Just wow. I absolutely adore this book. I couldn’t put it down, and loathed when I had to.
Melissa Ferguson absolutely killed with this rom-com. One might say, it’s the perfect rom-com. In this book, Bryony Page is an aspiring author who just wants to get an agent and sell her manuscript to a publishing company. Things take a few wrong turns and she ends up being a ghostwriter for an insufferable person. She pours her soul into ghostwriting while still holding out hope that she’ll be published under her own name.
Now let me just tell you, I was hooked. Bryony is such a relatable character without trying too hard. I found myself smiling, laughing, and swooning, because yes there’s romance. It’s a true slow burn where they get to know each other as friends first, and I adore it. I’ll be thinking about this book couple for a while. Beyond romance there’s also a deep story line about teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults. This was beautifully told and made for wonderful character defining moments.
Do yourself a favor and pick up this book!
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review. I love this book.

Melissa Ferguson is a very enjoyable author. Her books are packed full of fun banter, interesting characters, and crazy events.
This story was such a charming, fun, and entertaining book to read! I loved every moment I was in it—so much so that I didn’t want to put it down!
I’ve never really known what it takes to be a writer or all the moving parts involved in putting a book out in readers' hands. This story truly gives us, the readers, a glimpse of what it takes.
Melissa Ferguson is a master storyteller, sharing all the struggles writers face when all they want is to tell their stories. This story is also packed with the relational tension between Bryony and Jack. What it’s like to want to write but not be able to write the story you want to or be acknowledged for your writing. All the banter between these two makes the story flow and move along so naturally. It’s all so relatable, and the readers find themselves very invested.
After reading a few of this author’s books, I know that I will jump right in and get it whenever I hear Melissa Ferguson has written a new book!
AFTER ALL, I now know all the ins and outs of what it took for the book to be in my hands!
I loved this story and will recommend it to anyone and everyone who wants a fun book to read.
The publisher and NetGalley gave me this book, but this did not influence my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Such a fun read! Melissa Ferguson has done it again! The protagonists were as lovable and quirky as the antagonist was eye-rollable in her ridiculousness (I see you Amelia!)!
Not only was this a clean, sweet rom-com, there was also depth and it had you cheering on the main characters, Bryony and Jack. Put this on your feel-good reads list!
I received a complimentary ebook copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publisher. All thoughts are my own.

Ah, with Melissa Ferguson behind it, the rom-com really shines! Her writing style is so witty and warm, blending humor with real emotional depth. The dialogue is fast-paced and smart, making it easy to connect with the characters right away. Ferguson has a knack for creating memorable, lovable protagonists who are charmingly flawed but also incredibly relatable. In this book, the mix of quirky situations and sweet moments makes it feel like the perfect balance of laugh-out-loud and heartwarming. It’s the kind of read that leaves you smiling long after you've finished.

Another spectacular entry from Melissa Ferguson!! All Bryony Page wants is to publish her novel and save her grandmother’s ESL non-profit when she finds herself ghostwriting for famous rom-com author Amelia Benedict. As her ghost-written books explode in popularity, her initially contentious relationship with agent Jack Sterling slowly warms over the years to a friendship…and more? I devoured this book. It’s witty, it’s snappy, it’s fast-paced, it’s funny, it’s my favorite Melissa Ferguson in years. There are quippy one-liners and lots of slow-burn romantic tension between the two leads! I also loved the unique behind-the-scenes look at ghostwriters and literary agents when most NYC-set stories are focused on authors and editors. This book left me with such a smile on my face and I highly recommend it. Go grab it for the perfect Valentine’s weekend read!
(My only caveat would be if you are someone who doesn’t like stories where the FMC is dating someone else we don’t like while her feelings grow for the MMC, this book may not be for you. There is NO cheating in this book but it does flirt with that line a teensy bit.)
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me an ARC of this novel. I was not required to give a review and all opinions expressed above are my own.

Melissa Ferguson knows how to write a Rom-Com and in this case she has succeeded in writing "the Perfect Rom-Com." This is her best book yet!
In this novel, plucky Bryony Page is on a mission to become a published author -- and she will not let anything or anyone stop her. When she comes up against her last roadblock, what will she do to make her dreams come true? Follow along in this rollercoaster tale to see what happens.
As always, Melissa Ferguson delivers a sweet and clean romance story full of laughter and fun that can be recommended to just about anyone! This is one not to miss!
Thanks to Melissa Ferguson and NetGalley for an ARC copy of this novel to review. All opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.,

Another excellent romcom by Melissa Ferguson! I love that the characters are well developed. The struggles they go through are real and relatable. The way that Jack and Bryony's relationship grew and developed throughout the story was perfect. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun, witty, lighthearted read.

Thank you NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Bryony Page is an aspiring author who catches a big break as a ghostwriter for a NYT Bestselling author. All the while, she continues to push her agent, Jack, to get her first book published. Bryony works to save her grandmother’s legacy and thinks selling her book will give The Bridge enough publicity to stay afloat.
I absolutely adored the dynamic between Bryony and Jack. Their relationship was everything! Highly recommend this book for anyone wanting a rom com with a deeper message inside as well.

This rom-com was such a delightful read. The cast of characters was one I was cheering for from the very beginning, and Bryony's love for the community at The Bridge made me fall in love with them too.
I enjoyed the love story and found Bryony easy to relate to.
Here's a quick synopsis:
Bryony Page is a author hoping to secure a deal for a book she's written about her grandmother and the organization she has built to teach ESL, The Bridge. And she really needs a deal soon, because The Bridge is in financial trouble. She has one last chance to secure an agent at a writing conference and that last chance is Jack Sterling, a notoriously picky agent. The meeting goes terribly wrong, but then, she unwittingly stumbles into a different kind of deal all together...ghostwriting for Amelia Benedict.
Flash forward a couple years, the Bryony's novels have rocketed Amelia Benedict to a household name. But Bryony is getting frustrated. Jack was supposed to be pitching her book while she wrote these side novels for no credit, and she's not sure he's holding up his side of their bargain. As secrets are discovered and relationships get involved, will Bryony be able to share her novel, and The Bridge, with the world? Or is she destined to write for Amelia Benedict forever?
I loved reading this fun, light-hearted book about pushing for your dreams and the beauty of community.
*Thank you to TNZFiction and NetGalley for this advance reader copy!

This falls into the category of my idea of a perfect rom com! The story is unique and so sweet. I really enjoyed how plot driven this was for a romance and am a huge fan of this authors writing! I laughed and I teared up and I got so angry for Bryony that I wasn’t sure how to feel, which is a sign of a great book to me! I love feeling so connected to a story. The ending wrapped up in such a big, fun, rom com way that (while it was not super realistic) it felt like the perfect ending. I wasn’t sure how Bryony could forgive Jack but I’m glad she got her recognition and to save The Bridge. I appreciated how cause driven the characters were, too, which isn’t typical of the romances I’ve read recently. Overall, I give this a 4.5 and highly, highly recommend.

The Perfect Rom-Com is exactly that! I loved Briony and Jack. Briony is passionate about writing and about the ESL learning center that her grandmother started, that is woefully low on funds. Jack is an agent for a publishing house. Their first meeting is uneventful at first but then Briony gets bold and everything changes. I loved the chemistry and the friendship that Jack and Briony had together. I was fascinated at the behind the scenes look at the writing and publishing world. The grand gesture at the end is perfection. I loved everything about this book.

I loved this book. It was so cute and funny. The characters were relatable and brilliant. I loved the banter between the MMC and FMC. This was the perfect rom-com!

"The Perfect Rom-Com" by Melissa Ferguson is a delightfully fun book to read. Bryony and Jack are totally those friends that are really a couple but they don't see it themselves. They are so co-dependent in so many ways as Jack keeps Bryony on track to write books for a famous socialite and Bryony brings Jack into her world of adult ESL students that she meets in her day job of teaching ESL. This story stays engaging throughout and you just wonder what's going to happen next.
This book has light-hearted moments and also some really, deep touching times as well. Even some cringy moments - but every good rom-com has those of course! The dialogue is excellent and the writing kept me turning the pages and not wanting to put this one down. I've enjoyed many books by this author and this one might be my new favorite by her.
This is a clean, slow burn romance. Some kissing but nothing else. Content is appropriate for ages 16+. Highly recommend this one for readers of sweet and clean romances. No faith content, just a nice sweet and clean rom com.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson and Netgalley for an opportunity to read an ARC of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

i adored this book. a beautiful perfect rom com, i loved both of the main characters and completely raced through the book, a lovely cosy book

The Perfect Rom-Com is exactly as its title suggests - the perfect rom-com! I laughed, cried, cheered, and swooned as I read this novel, unable to put it down. A great cast of well developed characters, a steadily moving plot, beautiful blossoming relationships - can you tell I loved this book? I will definitely be adding Melissa Ferguson to my "must read" list.
5⭐️
Thank you so much to NetGalley, the publisher, and author for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley for review. My opinions are my own.
5/5 stars
I am so in love with this book. I read it in less than 24 hours. I’ve loved all of Melissa Ferguson’s books and this one is no exception.
I love books that are about books. They are kind of my jam. I jumped at the chance to read this book. This book is so special, and so timely right now, as it also deals slightly with immigration and has several side characters who are learning ESL. I love this side of the book and how Melissa brings such levity and brightness to the situation.

“If I recall correctly, you actually tried to staple yourself to my side.”
My nose wrinkles. “It wasn’t that bad—”
"Were it not for the annoying bell girl, I think you would’ve trotted along after me home—”
“That is absolutely false—”
“Probably would’ve moved next door to me if you could—”
“Hang on—”
“Anyway, according to your very organized folder system”— he pulls out the folder and taps the color-coded tags—“ I like this tab system here. It’s handy, even if it smells of desperation. We have a flight to Newark leaving in an hour and forty five—”
“We? You’re on the same flight?”
“It took a while to get the flights rearranged, but I am now.
And it was at that point, in all of chapter 3, that I knew this book was going to be a new all-time favorite.
I cannot hype this book enough! Seriously, the whipped back-and-forth banter alone is top tier. Aspiring author Bryony Page meets agent Jack Sterling at a conference to talk about her manuscript and winds up becoming a ghostwriter for a bestselling author instead.
The book then spends most of the time following Jack and Bryony balancing how to keep Amelia Benedict happy with Bryony's ghostwriting work with finding a publisher to accept Bryony's original manuscript.
Jack and Bryony's developed friendship is adorably snarky and my prediction has proven true that The Perfect Rom-Com is now officially one of my all-time favorite reads!

Byrony wants to save her ESL tutoring academy, so she writes a book about it. When she is pitching at a conference, she meets Jack, a literary agent. Her writing skills and spunk impress him, but he can't accept her book for publication. He does offer her a job as a ghostwriter for Amelia Benedict, a social media heiress who cranks out the romance books and then tours to promote them. This is the story of Byrony's job as Amelia's ghostwriter, spending her days with Jack (who has become her best friend), and chasing her dreams.

“I love that in a world so uncontrollable, I write so that the guy gets the girl in the end. The dog finds his family. The mother never dies.”
I always know when I sit down to read a Melissa Ferguson story that I’m in for a treat with no distasteful language or explicit content. Her romcoms are a delight and this one is my favorite so far.

FIVE STARS FIVE STAR I LOVE JACK SO SO SO SO SO MUCH. IT WAS SO SO SO AMAZING./ LOVED THAT IT WAS 100% CLOSED DOOR

I haven’t read a book this refreshing in a long time. With fun characters, a nicely-paced plot, and an easy-to-read writing style, this was a fast read that made me want more. This was my first book by Melissa Ferguson, but I definitely don’t plan on it being my last. I was looking at her backlist and recommending this novel before I’d even finished reading. Was this book the most realistic or profound I’ve read? No. It didn’t need to be. But it was like a glass of chilly lemonade on a hot summer day. I wish I found more books as refreshing and beautiful as this.
Read this book if you like bookish characters, friends-to-lovers, sweet rom-coms with more focus on the characters than romance, and casts of memorable characters.
CW: none, just some very mild romance

I just finished The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson, and it was such a heartwarming, feel-good read! It’s all about chasing dreams, finding your voice, and stumbling into love when you least expect it. The characters are so lovable, and the humor had me smiling the whole way through. If you’re a fan of second-chance romances with plenty of charm and laughs, this one’s definitely worth picking up!

What an interesting story - writing about ghostwriting, and the world behind the scenes of the writers’, editors’, publishers’, and promoters’ lives! I was drawn into the complexities of writing a book and amazed at all the pressures and backstage antics that went on for Bryony’ story to be born! I thoroughly enjoyed the book and thank NetGalley for the chance to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review!

A delightful, page turning, perfect Rom-Com of a book to keep you reading into the wee hours of the morning.
The Perfect Rom-Com will take you on a trip (literally) as Bryony and her literary agent Jack navigate the world of publishing, ghostwriting and the will-they-won't-they that makes the best romantic comedies come alive.
But I’m getting ahead of myself, let’s take a step back.
Bryony is an ESL teacher who is committed to publishing her debut novel. While an avid reader, and lover of books, Bryony’s desire to be published has an ulterior motive, saving The Bridge that is her place of work and the legacy her grandmother has built.
Her step toward publishing has an unexpected detour that leads her to writing the Amelia Benedict household of books three years after Bryony’s fateful meeting with her agent and best friend, Jack Sterling. As the lines between agent/bff and something more become increasingly blurry, Bryony finds herself questioning the foundation of her work as Amelia while the real Amelia gets all the glory (and none of the facts right), and wondering where she really stands as a writer, a teacher, and more than a friend?
A special thank you to netgalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for the opportunity to read The Perfect Rom-Com ahead of the crowd. All thoughts and viewpoints are my own.

The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson is a delightful and charming read that offers both heartwarming humor and an insightful look at the world of aspiring writers. The story centers around Bryony Page, a hopeful author attending her first writers' conference with the dual goal of selling her manuscript and raising awareness for her grandmother’s struggling ESL organization. After a disastrous pitch session, Bryony unexpectedly finds herself offering unsolicited feedback to another author, only to impress a literary agent with her keen eye for editing.
What follows is a surprising twist: Bryony is offered the chance to ghostwrite for bestselling rom-com novelist Amelia Benedict, and the deal comes with a catch—she’ll write for Amelia as long as Jack Sterling, the agent at the prestigious Foundry Literary Agency, helps sell her own manuscript. As Bryony’s work makes Amelia a household name, things take an unexpected turn. Jack, who has been working closely with Bryony, finds himself drawn to her in ways he hadn’t anticipated.
Ferguson blends wit, romance, and a touch of drama to create an engaging story about love, ambition, and the complexities of navigating both the professional and personal worlds. Bryony is an endearing and relatable protagonist, and the chemistry between her and Jack adds a sweet and authentic layer to the plot. The Perfect Rom-Com is a delightful exploration of what it means to follow your dreams and find love where you least expect it—making it a perfect pick for fans of feel-good romantic comedies.

THE PERFECT ROM-COM is absolutely @ourfriendlyfarmhouse best writing to date! Thank you so much for my copy, @tnzfiction {partner}, which publishes February 11, 2025.
The banter between Bryony & Jack- chef’s kiss perfection!
Jack is a literary agent, Bryony is an aspiring author with an endearing, yet terribly written, first novel. The two clash right away, and Bryony is swept up into the world of ghostwriting.
Bryony has two loves: writing and The Bridge.
As the years progress, Jack is still there, and her writing has grown tremendously, but not without its share of hardships along the way, most commonly under the name Amelia Benedict.
I literally cannot stop thinking about this storyline, and the fact that I stayed up way too late to finish it- always my marker of a 5 star read or not!
Add it to your Valentine’s Day RomCom reading list, or just grab it at Target- you won’t be disappointed!

I binge-read this book in two evenings after work. I couldn’t stop! I loved the characters and the story and it was so perfectly done. Another 5 star for Melissa!

I love when romance books feature characters who also work with books - it feels like a wink from the author to the reader! When a ghost writer and her literary agent have immediate sparks, you can tell right away they are a fit for eachother and it is up to Jack to prove that to Brony.
While the main characters were so charming, the side characters really made this book even more fun! They brought so much humor and heart to the story.
A charming, fun romance. You might say, a perfect one!

ENEMIES TO LOVERS
I always look forward to Melissa Ferguson’s new releases. Her latest release, The Perfect Rom-Com, doesn’t disappoint! Ferguson seems to be at her best when writing enemies to lovers, and these main characters fall into the enemy category for most of this book. That does not mean there is no spark or simmer under the surface the whole time, though. Bryony is trying to get her manuscript published. Instead, she becomes the ghostwriter for rom-com novelist Amelia Benedict. Jack Sterling is a legendary agent and promises Bryony that he will work on selling her book, too. Only the thing no one could have predicted happened. Bryony’s ghostwriting is off the chain and pushes Amelia Benedict to a household name and bestselling author status, with millions of copies sold worldwide, and the three find themselves trapped not in a love triangle but rather in a triangular web of deceit. The entertaining part is when the three and Amelia’s personal assistant go on a Book Tour and find themselves in Amelia’s Tour Bus. Traveling in close quarters with a diva leads to many hilarious missteps, particularly with everyone sharing one small bathroom area! Then, there are the Book Tour Stops. If Amelia had read the book, it would have impacted how she answered her reader's questions. Instead, Ferguson shows how hero worship causes people to believe what they want to see. Just as Bryony reaches her breaking point with Amelia and her diva ways, Jack starts giving her attention and hinting at more. Bryony finally believes they may have the relationship she has always wanted, and he will get her manuscript published. Alas, Bryony thinks she has discovered the truth about Jack's only use of her to get what he wants. Working with the adage, “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” Bryony turns the tables on everyone, rewrites her original manuscript, and makes it into a rom-com. Ferguson creates a surprise ending by turning the tables again at the end and brings this book to a fantastic conclusion! She sneaks it up on readers, and it may take you a minute to catch on to what is reality! It is very clever! This is a delightful read and I highly recommend it!
Thomas Nelson and NetGalley provided me with a complimentary copy of this book. However, my opinions are entirely my own and uninfluenced.

I’m a Melissa Ferguson fan, so when I was approved to read the ARC of her latest novel (thank you, NetGalley and Thomas Nelson!), I was excited! Having read almost all of her novels, I started this story with a hint of what to expect. Sadly, it seems many other reviewers experienced unmet expectations because of the title.
“The Perfect Rom-Com” is not a traditional rom-com, although there are many amusing (and embarrassing/awkward) parts. It contains a lovely heaping of romance, but it’s truly a romantic women’s fiction novel... the sort I love to curl up with and savour.
Bryony’s story is a wonderful read. She’s the sort of character you want to win, but you stick with her even when it turns from bad to worse. I sympathised with her anxiety struggles, loved her heart for the people around her, and wanted to cry when she was giving everything... yet it still wasn’t enough. We’ve likely all felt this.
Bryony held hope for her dreams, her family, and the future of her students despite everything... and I loved her all the more. What I didn’t enjoy was experiencing the strategic manipulation by some and the outright hostility from the antagonist. I really wanted to punch a certain character in the face on multiple occasions, and almost despaired when Bryony was at one of her lowest moments. But take heart, dear reader, as the ending is far from depressing!
Jack filled the “romantic hero” role nicely, even with several disappointing choices thrown in the mix (what person is perfect?). I loved his forthrightness! Also, his attention to detail endeared himself not only to Bryony but to me.
Enjoy the rollercoaster of being inside Bryony’s head and check out this wonderful story!
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

This book had everything I love in a romantic comedy—great characters, a unique premise, and just the right mix of humor and heart!
Bryony was such a standout character. I loved how determined she was—she knows exactly what she wants and will try everything to make it happen. She wasn’t just a typical rom-com heroine; she had depth, ambition, and a boldness that made her so fun to root for.
The ghostwriting aspect of the story was another highlight for me. It’s such a fascinating and rarely discussed topic, and I loved how the book explored it. The way it was woven into the plot added an extra layer of intrigue and made the story feel fresh and different from other rom-coms.
And then there’s Jack. He was far from perfect—he made mistakes, had flaws, and wasn’t always the ideal romantic hero. But that’s exactly what made him so charming and real. His journey, both personally and in his relationship with Bryony, felt genuine and heartfelt.
Overall, this book was an absolute delight. It had me laughing, swooning, and completely invested in the characters from beginning to end. If you love a rom-com with depth, heart, and a unique twist, this one is a must-read!

Another wonderful Melissa Ferguson novel. I’ve read them all, and this is one of my favorites, from the characters to the dialogue to the premise. Some of the joy of the rom-com is its predictability, and this one offers welcome twists that kept my interest to the last page.
I also appreciated the deeper dive into the world of publishing (Meet Me in the Margins went here, too). This time, the plot was more complex, in a good way, and it was a delight to follow along with Bryony as she grew in her understanding of herself and subsequently her readiness to be vulnerable and loved.
When I start a Ferguson novel, I know I’m going to be all in for the few days it takes me to finish—then it’s waiting for the next one to come out! Her writing is a respite from the craziness of the world; the humor is relaxing while the movement of the relationships is encouraging. Can’t wait to see where she takes us next.

Another wonderful Melissa Ferguson novel. I’ve read them all, and this is one of my favorites!
The characters were quite hilarious and lovable.
This is a well-written, creative, fast-paced, delightful story that grabbed my heart and attention right from the start. The characters are creative, lovable, and unforgettable.
I really enjoyed this delightful read and highly recommend the novel to anyone with a sense of humor.
Melissa Ferguson never disappoints!

What a cute story and the perfect book for February.
Byrony Page meets Jack at a publishing conference, and instead of getting her book published, she ends up being a successful ghost writer for an absolute horrible person. I have never disliked a character more than Amelia, but I guess that adds to the story.
I enjoyed how this story unfolds, and how the ESL school and Byrony’s grandmother plays a part in her life. The friendship and slow burn romance between Byrony and Jack was perfection. This story wouldn’t have worked if their relationship was rushed. How it was reveled on the TV show was also fun and glad Amelia got what she deserved.
Favorite quote:
“But as often happens in left, the greatest joys and greatest struggles tend to be delivered to your doorstep in the same basket. And it’s up to you dissect the two and embrace the good without letting the bad overcome.”
5 stars

This book was a perfect rom com and my favorite from this author so far! This book follows Bryony a ESL teacher who decides to write the story of her grandmother founding The Bridge,an immigrant center,in order to raise money to help keep the facility open. While trying to find an agent her only luck was with a young confident agent Jack, and he’s not so interested in her book as having her ghostwrite for another author. Bryony agrees to write as a ghostwriter if he’ll be her agent and try to sell her book. We follow Bryony as she struggles with the entitled author and an adorable pining relationship that kept me rooting for the romance. I have read quite a few books from this author and really enjoy her writing. I loved the publishing industry storyline it was interesting seeing the behind the scenes of how books are made. If you are a rom com lover I would definitely recommend picking this up! I would like to thank NetGalley and the publishers for a chance to read this book for an honest review.

It’s been a while since I’ve rated anything 5 stars but I’m so glad that this is my newest one!
This book was so cute and heartwarming. I loved how subtle the romance was in it. I felt like Bryony’s story was the forefront of the plot and it was refreshing to see.
Bryony was such an admirable character in the sense that she was hardworking, super intelligent, but overall humble in everything that she did. She was passionate when it came to writing and, most importantly, when it came to The Bridge and her students. She loved her sister Gloria and her Gram. It was nice to see how much she loved her life and the people in it despite the drama that ensued.
Jack was an ok romance guy up until the very end when he proved himself.
The ending was just so cute and had me crying. I feel like that in itself makes this a 5-star read.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!

Ah, Melissa Ferguson, you win again. Of course, that means that I also win because I got to spend the last few days reading and thoroughly enjoying this book. Win-win, I say.
It's kind of funny. Ordinarily, books with famous main characters are not my favorite ones. Their lives are so far removed from that of "the common folk" that I consider them to be out of touch with reality. But now that I think of it, the four Melissa Ferguson books I've read have been about people whose names are, well, I guess you could say "known" within their fictional world: authors and editors (Meet Me in the Margins), actors and screenwriters (How to Plot a Payback), social media influencers (Famous for a Living), and now authors and literary agents (this book). And I've loved all of them (though admittedly, Famous for a Living fell slightly short of love because I struggled to like the main character). Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is that Ferguson has managed to make me like books about characters who I normally wouldn't care to read books about. Scratch that: I love books about authors and books because I love books. But you get the point.
I spent so much of this book being incredibly frustrated for Bryony (27 at the start). I wanted to expose Amelia Benedict for the self-important fraud that she was, and I don't know how any of the people who worked for her could stand her. She as an absolute beast. But this isn't about Amelia (even though she'd probably disagree). This is about Bryony, who loved and cared for people, whose dedication to The Bridge motivated her to be patient and put up with Amelia. I loved the relationships Bryony had with her ESL students and the lengths she went to in order to help them. And I really, really adored Jack (how old is he?). I loved his perseverance, loyalty, and willingness to do whatever it took to help Bryony. Even when they were just friends, they were perfect together.
Let's talk a little about side characters, too. We got little glimpses of Bryony's ESL students, and they brought a subtle, very real humor to the book. I loved Bryony's sister, Gloria, and all the ways she supported Bryony and pep talked her. Even characters who really didn't do or say a whole lot (Trina, Penny, Susannah, etc) . . . they're all great, and they all have personalities.
Oh, I would watch this as a movie in a heartbeat. I would watch any of her books as movies (as long as they were done right). We need more good rom-coms, and she is writing them! I'm excited to work my way through her catalog, and I can't wait for every book she ever releases in the future.
Note: Nothing bad.

How can anyone not love this book? I devoured this in a day despite being sick because I felt personally involved in this book’s fictional world.
Melissa Ferguson does a fantastic job with the single POV, but I really would love to see her write dual POV to get that extra “giddy” feeling that the book lacks.
Bryony Page and Jack Sterling are the epitome of “finding your missing puzzle piece.” They complement one another and both learn from each other and their mistakes. While I enjoyed the literary world aspects of this story, I really do wish we got more of Bryony’s and Jack’s relationship because I do feel a bit let down in that regard.
Nevertheless, I highly recommend this book and the light it shines on ESL teachers like Bryony and organizations like The Bridge.
Single POV
He falls first
Friends to lovers
Close proximity
Grand gesture
Slow burn

This book gave all the rom com feels one needed. I love the added tension with Amelia but not as a love interest but co worker of sorts. While most rom coms follow a pattern of sorts, I appreciated her slight spins on the common. This story was really cute. I loved it

My thanks for the ARC goes to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction. All opinions are my own, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sweet Romance, Rom-Com
Spice Level: Kissing
Tropes: He falls first, Enemies to Lovers
THE PERFECT ROM-COM is sparkling with situational irony, and I loved every minute of the (bus) ride. I actually loved the whole thing, but the bus is particularly good because it's almost a locked-room situation that really raises the heat in this book.
This book also came at a good time for me because I'd just finished writing a romance, and I felt every bit of the pain that Bryony Page is going through as she ghost writes for a famous author. Her level of denial is also epic—which adds to the tension and is fun. Much like the books that Bryony is writing, this one touches on genuine subjects that matter. That's something I enjoyed in this book. And it feels particularly timely to discuss immigrants in today's world.
Jack Sterling begins as the quintessential grump but turns into something of a Golden Retriever. If he didn't have that no-nonsense, business streak, the story wouldn't have worked as well—in part because the writing world is so difficult and glacially slow.
If you're a romance reader, put this one on the top of your TBR.
Happy reading!

I LOVED this book. Beautiful story. So well written. Can’t wait to look for more from this author. If you want a feel good story with a happy ending this one’s for you.!!

Absolute perfection! Just like the title says, this is THE PERFECT ROMCOM. Byrony is a ghostwriter (for an absolutely horrible woman), but she's trying desperately to be published under own name to save an ESL school in her community, that she also teaches at. I would give anything to be able to read the books that Byrony has written cause they sounded so good! Jack is her agent and I rarely cackle out loud while reading a book, but some of Jack's lines got me! He's sweet, funny, protective, and just all around a good guy. I believe this is being released today, February 11th, and I can't wait to get my hands on a physical copy to read it again! Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for my digital and audio ARC!! ❤️❤️❤️

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc and alc!
Melissa Ferguson has done it again with another adorable romance! Seriously if you are looking for a light and fluffy romance this Valentine's Day (or any day of the year really), I highly recommend this book!
Furthermore, Karissa Vacker is fantastic (as always with the narration) and I loved how she brought Bryony and Jack's love story to life!
This book is available now at your favorite local bookstore!

I was up till 2am this morning to finish this one. It was amazing!! Such a special romance. I also loved this author’s previous work, Famous for a Living. This one though, it had so much heart. Bryony teaches English at The Bridge, her grandmother’s creation that provides ESL classes for immigrants having to start anew for a chance at a better life. However, it’s struggling to keep its doors open & Bryony hopes to land an agent at a writer’s conference that can help her get her book, all about The Bridge, published so that the proceeds can help save it. But at that conference Bryony draws the short straw and is left with none other than the notoriously picky Jack Sterling. He’s not interested in her idea but, she may be able to get her foot in the door if she’s willing to ghostwrite for one of his author’s. What transpires is a 2 year working relationship with Jack that’s teetering on something more. She’s not any closer to publishing her book, especially when she can’t reveal all her success in writing for best selling romcom author (thanks to Bryony), Amelia Benedict. When will Bryony get her break? The Bridge doesn’t have much longer and she needs to make something happen. What she needs is a miracle. But in a romcom, we all know anything is possible. Thank you to Thomas Nelson Fiction & NetGalley for this eARC. I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

OK. Wow.
This is my absolutely FAVORITE Melissa Ferguson book......ever. This was SO GOOD.
I loved the story - it felt unique and fresh. I also LOVED the love story. I loved how it wasn't your run of the mill story and our characters were so perfectly flawed, but also perfect for eachother.

One of many things that make Melissa Ferguson's romcoms stand out is how unique the plot of each novel is! Every one of her stories is so memorable I can still summarize them to my friends years later.
In this novel Bryony is desperate to publish her book to use the funds to save her beloved ESL school she has been teaching at. But fate (and a stern literary agent Jack) have a different plan for Bryony. She is to be a ghostwriter to Amelia Benedict, the mediocre author with the bigger-than-life name in exchange for the possibility of publishing Bryony's own novel.
I loved that this book had a very dramatic beginning with a twist (Bryony meets Jack)! It grabbed my attention from the first few chapters. And so began this unusual Agent-writer-colleague-friend-support-system-relationship. The romance side story was sweet, friends to lovers, close proximity, slowburn, kissing only - just my cup of tea!
There was a hilarious cast of ESL student characters I just fell in love with. Bryony's internal monologues were to die for! I laughed outloud reading her signature "self-loathing anti-pep talk". The novel is unique and imaginative. The author so masterfully conveyed an incredible experience of someone writing a book. It gives you a very good look inside the world of publishing.
This was indeed the perfect romcom and so much more! If you're looking for a clean romance/feel-good fiction, I hope you pick up this book!

Melissa Ferguson's debut is one for the books. I didn't know what I was expecting from this story, but the turns and twists it took, where absolutely incredible.
She did an immaculate job of creating the most relatable and iconic Bryony Page, the most generous, heartwarming, and hardworking character, who pushed through so much that she went through in the workplace, as well as teaching for the most important cause. I truly enjoyed seeing her face the challenges that she did and how she overcame them, and how she persevered which is a lesson that I took deeply from the story.
Ferguson does an amazing job of creating a real world scenario, and letting someone be so invested in a story, and the whole mystery what was happening. I was feeling all the feels, anger at a certain someone, happy for Bryony, sad for what she was going through, but as I do love a strong FMC, Bryony can teach so much in this, to not let yourself down and stop chasing your dreams.
For it only being the second month of the year, I have no doubt that this book will be my top favorite, and truly an unforgettable story at that, I absolutely loved it. Thank you Melissa, for creating a beautiful story.

Wow! I have not come across a Melissa Ferguson book yet I have disliked. Jack and Bryony have the chemistry and the friendly banter down. There are no swears, brief mentions of alcohol, and level 1 low-descriptive kisses only I received a complimentary arc of this book from @netgalley and @thomasnelsonfiction All opinions listed are purely my own. #Netgalley #ThePerfectRomcom

I’ve just loved this book. It was completely unexpected to me, there were so many layers that the blurb didn’t show, and it made the story incredible.
The insight in ghost writing was interesting, although infuriating to see Bryony get no recognition while dealing with Amelia (not sure how she did it for so long, she’s stronger that I would have been).
I did found one element of the plot a bit strange, is that there is a 2 yrs gap between when Jack & Bryony meet and when the story picks up, and that’s very much when they fell for each other is you don’t really see them develop their connexion. However it did work out quite well in the end I think, as we instead saw Bryony take her time to recognise that they’d became more than just friends and colleagues. The single pov worked very well with how slow and how long it took her, up to the reveal where it was suddenly made obvious.
There is suspense all along about what will happen to Bryony’s book and how the ghostwriting will unfold, and I thought the twist in the story was quite clever and interesting.
*I received an ARC of this book, this is my honest opinion*

If you are trying to find the perfect rom-com for Valentines Day (or any day for that matter) then you will find this book is aptly named. The author has written an opposites attract, grumpy/sunshine story in a fresh way that had my rapt attention from start to finish. I especially loved the character development of both Bryony, the hopeful, sweet and incredibly talented new author who was trying to get her book published in order to help keep her grandmother’s ESL school afloat financially, and Jack, the brilliant but jaded, curmudgeonly literary agent who hired her to be a ghostwriter for a difficult client. Both characters had lessons to learn in their journeys toward being their best selves and following their journey was also enlightening for me. Even though I expected a happily-ever-after outcome (it’s a rom-com after all), the book was never formulaic and continued to surprise me right to the very end. Highly recommend! I received an ARC from the publisher. All opinions expressed are strictly my own.

Czytanie o relacji B i Jack'a to sama przyjemność.
Mamy tu motywy: friends to lovers, forced proximity i he falls first + jest to książka o książkach!

Thank you to Netgalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction | Thomas Nelson for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this sweet rom-com. Loved the storyline and the characters. I would definitely recommend this book.

This was sooooooo good!!!!! True I love this author but I have been disappointed lately by a few of my go to authors but not this one.
I love the build of the relationship it was believable and worked so well. I loved the supporting characters they were so fun, including the "villain".
The hero was truly heroic. His patience, understanding, "knight in shining armor actions". He's not perfect but such a great example of everyday romance, joining a bowling league.
Our heroine, a little head in the clouds but so delightful. I loved seeing when her spine showed out.
The plot worked. Comedy, Romance, subterfuge.

The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson was a very cute read, and was the second of Melissa Ferguson’s novels I’ve read, Meet Me in the Margins being the first. As I thoroughly enjoyed that one, I was excited to have a chance to read this as well!
I think what surprised me the most about this novel was that there was so much about the inner workings of the publishing industry. I have no clue what any of the publishing aspect of books entails, so it was very interesting to see the whole process of what goes into making a book. From pitching at a large writing conference to what exactly an agent handles.
I liked seeing it from the perspective of a new author, who was very passionate about her book and getting her book printed to the journey that doing so took her on. If you’ve read the synopsis, you’ll know that Bryony’s querying efforts inadvertently result in her obtaining a ghostwriting gig. As I didn’t read the synopsis (I like to be surprised going into a book!), I didn’t realize the story was going in this direction, but I was glad it did. It was so fascinating and also drama filled in such a good way - I was immersed in the story. I liked the setup of this novel a lot and the premise, though it did take a little while to really ramp up, so wait for it!
The rom-com aspect of the storyline was very sweet as well. I enjoyed watching the love story unfold and was rooting for the characters to get together.
The ending was so unexpected but I very much appreciated it. I liked how everything panned out in the end.
Thanks so much to Thomas Nelson Fiction and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this novel. As always, my review has been written honestly. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

talk about justifying the book title. this is the perfect rom-com indeed. so emotional over this one. this will always have a special place in my heart. effortlessly embodying the rom-com genre with one of the best couples I've ever read about, the perfect rom-com is a must read for all rom-com lovers

Loved this book so much! I love the story line and the description of the scenery. This is definitely a book that I will tell many people to buy and read. It is so adorable.

A book about a girl desperate to write a book - possibly one of the quickest ways to my heart! With a charming agent, a detestable celebrity and a secret life as a ghostwriter, Bryony finds herself stuck and her dream floating further away.
This was a delightful read and one in which I fully immersed myself. The romance developed with a natural ease that had me smiling to myself from the comfort of my blankets, and my inner voice was urging Bryony on to see what was right in front of her.
Ticking all my boxes, this is a sweet romance about someone who is determined to achieve their goal, even if it means putting up with a spoiled celebrity.

A great read, the story of Bryony and Jack. She is am aspiring author and they meet when she is looking for an agent. I liked the character of Bryony and wanted everything to work out for them.

I absolutely adored this laugh-out-loud peek behind the scenes of the ghostwriting world!
When aspiring author Bryony Page attends her first writers conference, she finds herself pitching to none other than the legendary agent Jack Sterling, known for his ability to send authors running from the room in tears.
After a disastrous pitch session, no one is more surprised than Bryony to be offered an opportunity to write for the ridiculously vain and demanding popular novelist, Amelia Benedict. But when Bryony’s ghostwritten novels turn Amelia Benedict into a household name, the publisher can’t let her go. And neither can Jack.
A delightful tour through the often angst-ridden world of writers and publishers, and a must-read for those who love all things words and books!

5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Perfect Rom-Com
Author: Melissa Ferguson
Thank you so much Netgalley and Harper Collins Publishing & Thomas Nelson Fiction for this ARC! This was my favorite romcom of the year so far. Absolutely loved it. An aspiring author tries to pitch her book to an agent and ends up being asked to be the ghost writer for another romance author. Two years later, she is fed up and sick of it, especially since the romance author she is writing for is insufferable. However, she has made the romance author even more famous over the years she spent writing for her, and the agency can’t let her go, and her agent who has developed feelings for her can’t either. This book was super sweet and funny. I loved reading our FMCs struggles with trying to get published. Her relationship with the agent was sweet, and I loved seeing how infatuated with her he seemed to be, even after patiently waiting for her the entire two years of working together. I wish it was longer, and I definitely want to read more of Melissa’s books! Adored it.

Bryony wrote her book to raise money and awareness for The Bridge, a charity started by her grandmother and which she helps with at every opportunity. But agent after agent rejects it, and Jack Sterling is no exception. Something about her attracts his attention, though, and soon she finds herself ghostwriter to a famous author, Amelia Benedict - while still desperately trying to get her own book published. Spending time with Jack becomes increasingly necessary professionally - but somehow also personally. But though they're unwittingly building something special, between Amelia's obnoxiousness, Jack's secrets and The Bridge's money problems, it seems almost doomed. When the truth comes out, will anything remain?
I think this might be my favourite of the author's books so far - and that's a high benchmark! There's plenty of humour, but so much feeling as well. And for anyone who loves a good villain, no one could deny that Amelia fills that role perfectly! As for Bryony and Jack, the banter between them is often hilarious, sometimes touching and always real. I loved the way he was always looking out for her, even when it didn't seem like it. And the moment Bryony goes back to reread her original manuscript? Hilarious! With characters I quickly came to care for, a storyline that kept me guessing (but in a good way), some good secondary characters, a wonderful (hilarious) denouement, plenty of heart, and a satisfying ending, this is a book I can imagine coming back to reread multiple times. All in all, a great read - highly recommended.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Thank you to NetGalley for letting me not only read this book but also listen to it as an audiobook. This light and charming slow-burn romance blends humor, heart, and a touch of workplace drama. Bryony Page is first rejected by Jack Sterling when she tries to get him to be her agent for her novel. Jack claims her novel is too long and won't sell with its multi-ropes. Bryony makes a bold move and walks back into Sterling's office to try again with her novel. Jack decided to give Bryony a chance as a ghostwriter crafting bestselling novels for renowned author Amelia Benedict. Bryony is a huge success, but no one knows it her and she gets zero credit for her work. The “Agent x Author” and “Forced Proximity” tropes add a delightful tension, as Bryony and Jack find themselves working in increasingly close quarters. Jack sees past Bryony’s modest demeanor, and their romance unfolds through subtle yet electrifying moments—stolen glances, lingering touches, and a slow realization that their bond is more than just professional.
With elements of strangers-to-lovers, career-driven challenges, and relatable self-doubt, this novel is a heartfelt journey of self-discovery. Bryony’s transformation from ghostwriter to recognizing her own worth adds emotional depth, making it more than just a sweet workplace romance.

Obsessed. Jack had Byrony’s best interests at heart since they first started working together, even if she didn’t believe it with how annoying Amelia was. “I’ve been dating you for awhile now, I was just waiting for you to notice” DEAD

The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson
5⭐️
This was such a heart warming story. From cheesing to laughing and awing, Melisa Ferguson created the perfect love story.
Bryony Page is hoping to get her manuscript that literary fiction with a touch of magical realism, suspense and somewhat biographical published when she meets the infamous Jack Sterling. Instead, she ends up becoming the ghost writer for 1# best selling author Amelia Benedict. Bryony and Jack are strictly platonic but there’s always been a little something there.

This book was such a funny and sweet read! The dialogue and banter between the main two characters was so funny and witty! The chemistry between the two leads was really strong, but it was still a closed door romance. I don't always love books about writers, and I knew there was going to be some third act issue with her book, but it really felt so genuine and still interesting. Highly recommend!

I enjoyed reading The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson. You will fall in love with all the characters. I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely. Happy Reading!

Melissa is a wonderfully hilarious author who pens perfect clean romance. I was hooked from the beginning.

Thank you to everyone for this early gifted copy of The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson.
You guys, Melissa has done it again, and this really is THE PERFECT ROM-COM. So so sweet. Wonderful characters. Great storyline. Parts that made me laugh, parts that had me rooting for main characters and one great part that took a twist and had me laughing with joy. I cannot recommend this book enough.
I have read almost all of Melissa's books, and I think that this might be one of my favorite, if not my favorite now!

“Fingers gripping me more protectively now, delight clear in the way he holds me, touches me. Draws his fingertips through my hair. Me. His Bryony. His girl. And it feels, well, it feels like home.” 🩷✍️🚍💻🌎🎳😘
Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and the publisher for the ALC!! I needed an audiobook for my busy day yesterday(getting the house ready for our kiddos and babysitter so we could go on a V-Day date)and this one perfectly fit the bill 😍😍
Bryony Page, aspiring author and ESL instructor, attends a writers conference, ready to pitch her manuscript. Though agent Jack Sterling isn’t all too impressed with her work in its current state, he offers Bryony another opportunity: to be a ghostwriter for bestselling rom-com novelist, Amelia Benedict.
However, what was meant to be a short-lived contract turns into a years-long commitment, in which Bryony becomes THE sole writer for Amelia’s “work.” Bryony is desperate to publish her OWN work under her OWN name, but the agency is loathe to let her go. And Jack, agent and eventual best friend, realizes he can’t let her go either.
I LOVED this story. In the hours listening to the audiobook, I laughed at Bryony’s and Jack’s banter, raged at Amelia’s selfish entitlement, swooned at Jack’s flirting and concern for Bryony, grew frustrated with Bryony while she fought for her beloved ESL program and manuscript, and celebrated when we finally reached a satisfying HEA.
As an aspiring author, this book gave me equal parts hope and anxiety 🤣 Bryony discovers the obnoxious politics of the publishing world, and desperately wants her story told. She finds that her original story needs a lot of work, and I gained a new appreciation for authors who put hours, weeks, months, and even years to realize their publishing dreams. I am anxious, but also excited to continue in this slow-moving journey 🩷

This book was absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!! I loved it from the beginning to the end. It was perfect, I don’t have any critiques for it.
I will undoubtedly read this book again in the future🥰🫶🏼
This was a Rom Com but it also highlighted the reality of publishing and the dark side that aspiring writers face especially ones who choose to be a ghostwriter.
I look forward to reading more from Melissa Ferguson!
Thank you NetGalley, Thomas Nelson Fiction, Thomas Nelson and Melissa Ferguson for giving me an ARC of this wonderful book!

First 6 star read of 2025!!! This story gave me all the feels.
Bryony Page has a plan. She has to save her grandmothers business The Bridge from shutting down. The Bridge helps so many immigrants with learning English, taking their GED, and preparing them for life in America. It’s important and necessary and it can’t shut down. The plan is to take the story she’s written about her grandmother and the business, get an agent and sell it for a hefty sum. All while also bringing much needed awareness. Every other agent has turned her down, and this is her last shot. He, is her last shot. Jack Sterling, the toughest and most exclusive agent. And he’s just turned her down.
Jack knows that the book in front of him is not ready, but that’s not what’s troubling him. He has other problems. Problems he needs to focus on, if the girl with the book will ever leave. She’s insistent, and it piques his curiosity. He can’t help her with her book, but maybe she can help him.
An agreement is made, and these two find themselves working together, and becoming friends. Good friends. Best friends?? More than friends??
I was hooked early with this one. “I love shaping words and worlds within my story that bend to the dreams and hopes I wish the world existed on. I love that in a world so uncontrollable, I write so that the guy gets the girl in the end. The dog finds his family. The mother never dies.” This description right here just tugged at my heart so much!!
The bond between Jack and Bryony is perfection. There’s an ease that’s been formed that gives “my person” vibes 😍. And the way they both know one another and are able to banter and volley back and forth. I loved the little hints of them both bringing up their significant others, as more than just a reminder 😏😏.
I will say I wish the ending was longer. I loved it, but I do wish we got to sit with it a bit more. It was fast.
Jack Sterling!! Damn you Jack!!! His revelations were 😭😭 and his actions, though sometimes not right, were done with such care.
This is very much a happy ending lol!!
Just adored this one. Def need to read! And now I’m searching through Melissa Fergusons other books for my next read ☺️

'Bryony Page. What agent would be crazy not to want this?'
I dare you to read this book and not feel completely endeared to Bryony Page.
...and Jack
...and Gloria
...and Penny
...and Trina
...and Susanna
.... and even Albrecht
This book is without a doubt making my top 2025 favorites list and to be quite honest by all-time favorites list. This is my first book by Melissa Ferguson and I have never been happier to see a backlist from an author.
I am completely hooked.
I LOVED THIS BOOK!
This book had so many fun elements to it from the characters, the romance, the dialogue (Bryony + Jack are completely swoon worthy together!), the settings, the side plots and back stories, the villain (and woowhee is she a great villain!). If you're looking for a romcom filled with HEART AND SOUL this is the book you want to read.
10 OUT OF 10 RECOMMEND, ALL OF THE STARS, ALL OF THE THUMBS-UP, SERIOUSLY--GET YOURSELF THIS BOOK ASAP!
I really cannot recommend this one enough. If you finish this without tears in your eyes (or completely running down your face) you are not human :) This book is quite possibly the definition of perfection. Thank you Melissa Ferguson for bringing this beauty in to the world (sincerely, your newest fan!).
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Content/Trigger: death of a loved one (off page), romance-kisses only!

Okay, The Perfect Rom-Com is seriously chef’s kiss perfect! 😍 Bryony Page is an aspiring author with big dreams to get published and save her grandmother’s ESL school. But after a cringe-worthy pitching session, she ends up ghostwriting for a bestselling author (who’s, like, the worst) while still trying to get her own book out there. Her agent, Jack, is a total swoon-worthy mess—funny, sweet, and just a little bit flawed, which made him way more relatable and charming. I loved watching Bryony’s determination and ambition unfold. She’s not your typical rom-com heroine—she’s bold, smart, and unapologetically herself.
The whole ghostwriting aspect was such a fresh twist! It gave the book an extra layer of depth, making it feel more unique than the usual rom-com tropes. Plus, the dynamic between Bryony and Jack was perfection—there was so much banter, and it made me laugh out loud more than once! 😂
And shoutout to Karissa Vacker, the narrator—she absolutely nailed the voices, especially the playful back-and-forth between Bryony and Jack. She brought their chemistry to life in such a fun way!
This book? Definitely worth the read (or listen). It’s witty, heartfelt, and so easy to root for the characters. If you’re into rom-coms with a little more substance and lots of laughs, you’re gonna LOVE this one. ✨📚

Such a fun and interesting look into the book writing and publishing industry! The love/hate chemistry between Jack and Bryony was laugh out loud funny at times and kept me hooked. The sister relationship and the hilarious way that Gloria helps to alleviate Bryony's anxiety and nervousness was the icing on the cake.
This was the 'Perfect Rom-Com'!

THE PERFECT ROM-COM is amazingly well-written and filled with relatable, well-developed characters. I was drawn to Jack instantly and deeply invested in both his professional and personal relationships with Briony. I also loved to hate the spoiled, ungrateful author for whom Briony is a ghost writer, and I rooted for that character to get her comeuppance as much as I rooted for the couple. I think this is Melissa Ferguson's best book to date!

I've read all of Melissa Ferguson's books, but there was something extra special about this one that landed it firmly as my favorite of her novels. I don't know that I can put my finger on it, but I seriously LOVED everything about this book. It just hit the spot for my reading mood and I ended up bingeing it unexpectedly. I simply didn't want to put it down, it's that good. It was just a great escape, exactly what I hope to have happen when I pick up a rom-com. Low stakes, but high reward. Dynamic characters and a really fun plot for a bookworm.
Told through Bryony's POV, I felt like her character was relatable and even as she was navigating everything, it was impossible not to feel the chemistry between her and Jack. It was just fun. I loved the plot and the characters as a whole. The romance was nice; the way they danced around each other in denial (friendzone/work place romance) and then Jack making his move and his end grand gesture … yeah, I was here for it. It put a smile on my face.
I received an advance reader copy of this novel from Netgalley and Uplit Read Tours. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This is a clean romance.

I want to be perfectly clear when I say the only reason this book gets five stars is because Goodreads doesn't have any more stars.
The title says it all really. This is THE perfect rom-com. It's loosely based on Two Weeks Notice, which is one of my favorite films, and I love the subtle references to it throughout. It never felt overpowering though and never took away from my reading experience.
First of all, Bryony and Jack are amazing together. They have the best banter that continues even after they get together. From the very first moment you can tell that they are meant to be. This is an endgame couple. I love all the ways Jack secretly takes care of Bryony and does everything in his power to protect her from the publishing industry's evils. Also, no other grand gesture can top this one.
Beyond the romance, this book has so much more to offer. I'm so impressed by how Ferguson added all of this in such a short amount of pages. Bryony also teaches ESL (English as a Second Language), and it was so fun to see her interactions with her students. Additionally, Bryony is working to save the school because it has lost its funding. Those scenes at the school always made me so emotional.
In short, this book is my absolute favorite ever. Sorry to every other book. Also, please be warned that this book is dangerous as you will want to quit your job or drop out of school to stay home and binge this.
Thank you to the publisher for the e-copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book was delightful from the beginning! I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the pain of the publishing world! I loved the warmth the author created between her sister from the beginning! Loved the MMC, his character and the development of his hidden love for MFC was so moving and fun to watch! I loved this story!

Thank you to Melissa Ferguson and Thomas Nelson Fiction for providing me with a copy of The Perfect Rom-Com in exchange for my honest opinion!
This book is a heart-squeezing, emotional journey that beautifully balances heartfelt romance with a powerful story of hope and change. I absolutely fell in love with Bryony Paige and her inspiring journey, as well as her grandmother’s legacy at The Bridge—a program nestled in the quiet corners of Florence, NY, dedicated to helping immigrants and refugees learn English and rebuild their lives. The hope and support radiating from this community truly moved me.
This story will make you cry in the best way, leaving you inspired to be the change you want to see in the world. And then there’s Jack Sterling—sunshine wrapped in a grumpy exterior. As a literary agent who is tough for all the right reasons, he became one of my favorite characters, showing that even the grumpiest facades can hide the kindest hearts.
This is one of the rare books I genuinely couldn’t put down (the only thing that stopped me from finishing it in a single day was my day job!). If you’re looking for a heartwarming, emotional story that lingers long after the last page, grab this book now! Read it, love it, and spread the word about this incredible author!

This book was such a great read. The scene development was so amazing I was right there in every scene. The characters so relatable. I was rooting for Bryony tryout the brook. She was such a delightful character and I could see us being fast friends, she was that good!
I really loved the premise of this book. It was a great read from the first sentence straight through to the last one. I didn’t want the story to end.
I would highly recommend this book!
I want to thank NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for this advanced reader copy and this is my honest review.

I love Melissa Ferguson’s books. I know I’ve only read two but I’m a forever fan. Not only are they funny (they are hilarious, actually), they are so well done.
This book has all the things I love in a romcom. Humor, heart, a wonderfully snarky MMC, a sweet and caring FMC who’s an ELS teacher turned ghostwriter. Along with moments that had me laughing so hard and smiling so big from the inner thoughts of Bryony.
I adored Bryony and Jack. Jack is so arrogant, it’s enjoyable. I loved how they knew each other. How they would know what the other was thinking. Ferguson’s descriptions are spot on. She even made me crave a tomato pie and I don’t even know what tomato pie is. I haven’t read a book about a ghostwriter before and I really enjoyed this plot line. (And of course the romantic tension between Jack and Bryony was also enjoyable.)
The story has a usual villain and the supporting characters are just as well done as Jack and Bryony. I can’t say my favorite moments for fear of spoilers but there were many.
The narrator does a perfect job expressing Ferguson’s words. Karissa Vacker’s tone was very well done on each character she portrayed. There are variety of accents too that are spot on.
I received a paperback and NetGalley approval for the audio and ebook from the publisher for your purposes. Huge thank you to Thomas Nelson.

The Perfect Rom-Com is Melissa Ferguson at her finest. I absolutely fell in love with the FMC Byrony from the moment I met her. She is tenacious and scrappy. I loved her relationship with her sister and her meeting with potential agent, Jack, was so good. Epic!
There are so many laugh out loud moments and many other subtle moments that had me smiling or giggling. This is a book that I needed to relish every word for fear of missing something.
I loved that this took place in the literary world, it seemed so real, highlighting many of the challenges writers experience in this age of social media.
It concludes with the most fabulous grand gesture, truly unmatched!
So so good! The perfect clean romance and truly the "perfect rom-com" 😉

A delight of a book! The Perfect Rom-Com is the second book I've read by Melissa Ferguson and my favorite so far.
Plot Summary: Main female character Bryony wants to be a published author, and use the money earned from book sales to save a charity she loves. She attends a literary conference to pitch her manuscript, and meets a grumpy agent named Jack. Jack doesn't like her manuscript, but likes her writing ability so he hires her to be a ghostwriter for one of his romantic comedy clients. Fast forward two years, and Bryony has become a wildly successful ghostwriter, but doesn't have the personal fame to get her original manuscript published under her real name. Through a series of events, her forced proximity with Jack turns into a more romantic relationship than agent-author. However, the issue of her manuscript and the charity she wants to save still exists. Can she find a way to save the charity, write under her own name, and also enjoy a relationship with Jack?
My Thoughts: This book has snappy dialogue and great pacing. There are no lulls in the middle as with some books. The overarching genre is women's fiction, with the romance plot picking up about halfway through the book. I was captured into the story at the very beginning and didn't even miss the lack of romantic interaction in the first half of the book.
The writing style reminded me of a Katherine Center book, minus any language or intimacy beyond kissing. The plot felt original and fresh; it didn't overuse romantic tropes like many romantic comedy books fall prey to.
I enjoyed learning abut the back end of the literary world and how agents work with authors. I didn't expect to learn so much about publishing books from a fun rom-com book! As an avid reader, I loved the snippets where the author described the stereotypical personality of book fans, such as wearing book shirts. The author's stream of conscience style of writing for the main character was one of my favorite parts. Her insights were relatable and authentic.
I highly recommend this book to any rom-com reader!
Content considerations: There is no language or spice. Kisses only. No faith content mentioned.
Thank you to Thomas Nelson Fiction and NetGalley for the complementary copy of this book. My review is my own opinion and my words are in no way influenced by the author or publisher.

I absolutely loved this book! The characters were so lovable and I found myself rooting for them all (except Amelia— although a change of heart from her would’ve been nice to see). I share such a deep love for The Bridge and all of its students, I can really resonate with the mission of The Bridge so for that to be the extra driving force for Bryony to be so determined to become a published author after 2 years of her having a ghostwriting career was truly special for me. I squealed during Chapter 13 when Jack made my heart swoon, and cried happy tears with Bryony when Jack and all her friends who believed in her (despite the consequences) all rallied together to put her name on her hard work and let the world know in Chapter 25. Jack was exactly who she needed in her corner and my heart is fully content with how this story ended. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read such an empowering book.

The Perfect Rom-Com is Melissa Ferguson’s newest stand-alone romantic comedy. It is a clean workplace romance set in the literary world.
29-year-old Bryony Page attends her first writers’ conference in Nashville, Tennessee, hoping to meet a publisher who wants to purchase her masterpiece. She is an ESL teacher at her grandmother’s charity for immigrants in suburban Florence, New York. Bryony’s 149,000-word nonfiction manuscript isn’t interesting to anyone, and she’s devastated because she has spent years drafting it. When she meets uber-agent Jack Sterling, he dismisses her two minutes into her allotted fifteen-minute pitch. Bryony rallies and comes back, demanding that he give her the remainder of her time slot. They wind up discussing bestselling author Amelia Benedict’s latest draft, and Bryony makes some suggestions. Jack offers Bryony a job as Amelia’s ghostwriter, and in exchange he will try to market her book.
Fast-forward two years and Bryony has written six bestselling romantic comedies for Amelia Benedict. Both Amelia’s publisher and Jack’s literary agency realize that Bryony is the key to Amelia’s success, because she does nothing but make ridiculous demands. Amelia is beloved by the public, and she is booked for a two-week book tour across the United States. So Bryony and Jack are forced to go on tour with Amelia in order to keep her from making any mis-steps. Unfortunately, Bryony and Amelia can’t stand each other, and Bryony is at her wits end waiting on Jack to find a publisher for her book.
The Perfect Rom-Com is a clean romance with no profanity or sex and provides a behind-the-scenes view of the cutthroat world of publishing. The first few chapters chronicle Bryony’s experience at the writer’s conference, and contain more details than most readers are interested in. It was hard for me to get through these chapters, because the action was so slow. Once the story fast-forwarded two years to Bryony’s success as a ghostwriter, the story moved faster and was more enjoyable. The reader is questioning Jack’s motivation and trustworthiness alongside Bryony, while also hoping there’s a way to save The Bridge.
The characters really make The Perfect Rom-Com a special story. Bryony truly loves her job as an ESL teacher, and she’s loyal to a fault. Her younger sister, Gloria, is her ride-or-die best friend and cheerleader. Less is known about Jack, which adds to the conflict and suspense element. Other side characters, including Penny, Susanna, and Bryony’s students, add dimension to the story. Amelia is the perfect villain, and readers wait hopefully for her to get her comeuppance. The Perfect Rom-Com would make an enjoyable Hallmark-type movie.
As a side note, I attended the Tennessee Writers’ Conference in 2024, where this author was a speaker on a Romance panel. She shared her experiences as an ESL teacher and how she transitioned to writing romantic comedies.
I received an Advance Review Copy (ARC) from NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Bryony wants nothing more than to get her story, her baby, her novel out into the world. Too bad no one wants to take it on. But when Bryony is offered the chance to ghostwrite instead and knocks it out of the park (again and again), well, it looks like the power has shifted hands.
What can I say - I loved everything about this book. From the cover to the story to the characters, I was hooked. But you know what I loved THE MOST? Jack and Bryony's relationship. It was written so well and the chemistry was just bursting off the page. A+ read.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

The fmc was annoying in the beginning, great in the middle, and back to annoying.
I really liked the story of this one but the miscommunication drove me nuts. If the man you love says "wait I have something really important to tell you"....maybe, just maybe....idk listen???? miscommunication 😂
Overall tho - I did enjoy it!

Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC publication for an honest review.
This book was such a treat! I adored Bryony and Jack...and totally loathed Amelia!!
Jack is an agent. Bryony is a writer needing an agent. Their meeting and eventual work relationship is not what Bryony had planned. She is hired to be a ghostwriter which leads her to great success, but unfortunately, she gets no credit. Bryony and Jack had such witty banter, and their relationship was so much fun with a connection that felt real. These two were just so perfect together even with the ensuing conflicts and misunderstanding. The moment when Bryony finally realized her feelings...and to know Jack had always been there (and even though she didn't know it he was dating her!) was the sweetest moment. The romance was great, but the side story with the Bridge/immigrants also captured my heart.
I am still smiling!
5 stars

Read this book in one full setting. I felt like it was relatable and livable. Everyone has a bit of Bryony in them and has that guy friend that they're not sure where they stand; a career that they are hoping really gets off the ground one day and a family member/friend cheering them on in the background if they're truly lucky. It was a great light hearted read that was catchy and had enough spirit to it that kept you entertained and wanting to know what was going to happen.

I was not expecting this book, and it surprised me in the best way! I usually really struggle with books written in the first-person present tense, but Melissa Ferguson knows her craft, and she created a compelling, gorgeous rom-com in "The Perfect Rom-Com." I adored Bryony and Jack, and between the tense and the pacing, Ferguson may have created a perfect rom-com. It's giving Norah Ephron in the best way.
Bryony is just the right blend of a down-to-earth teacher, gifted author, and confused adult, while Jack balances between swoon-worthy, smarmy, and surly, a flawed and loveable leading man. Ferguson's dialogue is snappy, she gives plenty of detail without overwhelming the reader, and she keeps the plot and characters tight. She knows the ins and outs of the publishing industry, and she illuminates them without ruining the magic. I loved to hate her villain, appreciated the wrap-up, and overall just could not put this book down!

Thank you to Netgalley and Melissa Ferguson for this ARC!
Melissa Ferguson's "The Perfect Rom-Com" is a charming exploration of dreams and love set against the backdrop of the publishing world. The story follows aspiring author Bryony Page, who attends her first writers’ conference with hopes of promoting The Bridge, her grandmother’s struggling ESL organization. After a disastrous pitch session, Bryony unexpectedly lands a gig ghostwriting for the famous rom-com novelist Amelia Benedict, with the condition that agent Jack Sterling also helps her sell her own manuscript.
As Bryony's talent transforms Amelia into a bestselling author, she discovers the complexities of the publishing industry and the pressures of success. The chemistry between Bryony and Jack is electric, and their witty banter brings warmth and humor to the story. Ferguson beautifully captures the struggle of pursuing one’s ambitions while navigating personal relationships, highlighting the importance of self-identity in the creative process.
With engaging characters, delightful dialogue, and a satisfying conclusion, "The Perfect Rom-Com" is a heartwarming read for fans of romantic comedies and aspiring writers alike. It’s a joyous celebration of love, ambition, and the magic of storytelling that will leave readers smiling. Highly recommended!

The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson is exactly what the title promises—an absolute delight from start to finish! With laugh-out-loud moments, swoon-worthy romance, and plenty of charm, this book had me grinning the whole way through. The witty banter and undeniable chemistry between the characters made it impossible to put down. If you love a feel-good, heartwarming romance that leaves you with a happy sigh, this one is a must-read! 💕✨

The Perfect Rom-Com offers a great behind-the-scenes look at the publishing industry from the perspective of a book agent and the ghostwriter for an egomaniac contemporary romance author. Bryony and Jack are fantastic - their banter is truly top-tier! Bryony is quirky and endearing, sometimes a little desperate, but has such a big heart and cares deeply. And Jack is perfectly in-tune with Bryony, patiently waiting for her to realize that they might just be perfect for each other and doing everything in his power to help her achieve her dream of publishing her own novel and saving her grandmother's nonprofit organization/school catering to refugees. Overall - this was an incredibly entertaining and heartfelt romance. Loved every single page! Thank you to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for the chance to read this novel.

This truly was the perfect rom-com. I was hooked from chapter one. The chemistry between Bryony and Jack was pouring off the pages. Loved their dynamic and how well they both played off each others character. The heart of the story for me was her never giving up on saving the center where she worked, which hit close to home personally. I had the best time watching these two totally platonic friends fall for each other. It was a fun, flirty, feel good love story. I’ve loved each book I’ve read from Melissa and this has become my new favorite! A must read for all of us hopeless romantics.

To be completely honest, I gave The Perfect Rom-Com five stars purely on vibes. This book is the cutest one I’ve ever read. The writing itself is just okay, and the grand finale is a bit unrealistic, but the romance between Bryony and Jack is exceptional. Be prepared to giggle and kick your feet in the air while reading this adorable romance.

Thank you NetGalley, Uplit Reads, Thomas Nelson and author Melissa Ferfuson for the arc!
Ok, so this was my first Melissa Ferguson book and ya’ll … it was a delight!! Excellent writing with a fun and fresh plot that's oh so swoon worthy ... this slow burn sweet romance has funny laugh out loud moments with the most loveable characters that will burrow their ways into your heart! Plus, a villain-ess that was so deliciously hate-able! Gah! It was absolutely one of those books that I just could snuggle down with & let the story take me away! And the ending was absolutely satisfying! This one is 100% a recommend from me!

Well that was just the sweetest thing I’ve ever read!! I swear I spent 90% of this book smiling! I loved it! Bryony is so relatable and the development of her character is perfect. It felt exactly right from page one to the end of the epilogue. I loved getting a kind of inside peek of the publishing world and ghostwriting too!! I really enjoyed this!

A bit delayed with this review, but better late than never hopefully! Thank you Netgalley for the ARC - all thoughts and opinions on this book are my own.
Reading has felt the tiniest bit like a chore so far this year, and this book really helped me get out of a reading slump!
Books that dive into the world of publishing are always so fascinating to me, and this one really kept it real, especially with the honest discussion about rejections. It's refreshing to see that front and center, showing the gritty side of the industry. Sure, the ARC formatting is a bit rough around the edges, but honestly, that’s not the book’s fault—just a minor thing in the grand scheme of things.
As someone who has absolutely no clue how the publishing world works or what it's like to even get picked up by big-name authors, I loved watching Bryony take control. She’s totally owning her journey, going back to the interview table, fighting for herself, and giving feedback and edits to Benedict’s book. Talk about empowerment! I’m all here for it.
Their banter? I’m obsessed. It’s witty, it’s playful—just the perfect dynamic. And then there’s Jack. Honestly, I couldn’t tell if he was being genuine or just stringing her along with promises of getting her book out there. It was kind of heart-wrenching at times, but the twist? Wow. Turns out he *was* stringing her along, but for a good reason? I don’t even know if I’m fully buying that (in terms of how the publishing industry works, not his intentions to protect Bryony), but I guess it makes sense in the end.
The time jump totally threw me off at first, but I ended up loving it. It works so well for the story, and I’m really glad it happened. Also, the fact that both Bryony and Jack are technically in relationships adds such a compelling dynamic. I’m already rooting for them, and really appreciate the path Ferguson took with their story
And can I just say? I’m beyond obsessed with Bryony being an ELL teacher. As an educator myself, I loved that representation.
But the absolute cherry on top? The twist and the resolution at the end. I was so shook, I had to make my boyfriend stop playing his game just to tell him what happened. I’m still thinking about it. Seriously, what a ride. Highly recommend!

I think this is my favourite one by Melissa! One star because the protagonist is an ESL teacher!
I've actually got a CELTA myself, and I thoroughly enjoyed teaching English as a second language!
What a wonderfully paced romance with none of the spice, yet you can feel the sparks.
Enjoyed both the well narrated audiobook and ebook!
I received a complimentary copy of both the ebook and the audiobook. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Read If You Like:
- Romantic comedies
- Enemies-to-lovers trope
- Stories about writers and the publishing industry
- Witty banter
Aspiring author Bryony Page attends her first writers' conference with high hopes of selling her manuscript and raising awareness for The Bridge, her grandmother's financially struggling organization where she teaches ESL full-time. After a disastrous pitch session, she unexpectedly lands a job as a ghostwriter for Amelia Benedict, a popular rom-com novelist. Bryony agrees on one condition: that Jack Sterling, a literary agent at the Foundry Literary Agency, works to sell her own book too. As Bryony's ghostwritten books propel Amelia to greater fame, she finds herself entangled in the complexities of the publishing world and her growing feelings for Jack.
This novel offers a delightful blend of humor and heart, with engaging characters and sharp, witty dialogue. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic between Bryony and Jack adds tension and charm to the story. The behind-the-scenes look at the publishing industry provides an intriguing backdrop, and Bryony's dedication to her community adds depth to her character. The narrative is both entertaining and uplifting, making it a perfect choice for fans of lighthearted romance.
The Perfect Rom-Com is a charming and enjoyable read that will leave you smiling and believing in the serendipity of unexpected opportunities.
Thanks so much to the publisher for my ARC and ALC!

Bryony Page has finished her first manuscript and attends her first writers conference hoping to sell it so that everyone will learn about The Bridge, the organization her grandmother started where Bryony herself teaches ESL. It’s struggling financially and if she could get published, the profits could help keep the doors open. Her pitch doesn’t go as well as she’d hoped, since it isn’t any one genre and has an astounding word count. In a last-ditch effort to be seen, she corrects another author’s work and hits the nail on the head.
Even though Jack Sterling doesn’t want her book, she’s shocked when he offers her the chance to ghostwrite for Amelia Benedict, a popular rom-com author. She agrees to write Amelia’s books if Jack agrees to try to sell her book.
Bryony ends up turning Amelia Benedict into a bestselling author, something no one could have predicted. She has become priceless to the Foundry Literary Agency, and she might be priceless to Jack as well. What will he do to keep her?
I loved this book! What better way for an aspiring author to get her start than to ghostwrite for someone who becomes a bestseller? I was invited to read an advanced copy of this book and look forward to reading other books by Melissa Ferguson.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson Fiction for allowing me to read to an ARC of this novel. #NetGalley #ThePerfectRomCom

I really enjoyed The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson, and enjoyed getting to read it through NetGalley. I love Melissa Ferguson's writing style. While this book itself wasn't rom-comish, it is a pursuit for the Perfect Rom-Com. The book grabbed me from the very beginning and I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed it so much, I also grabbed the audiobook on Audible, and thoroughly enjoyed the narrator. This book made me laugh, made my heart hurt for Bryony, and also made me feel the gooey feelings. I also enjoyed the references to another of her books, Meet Me in the Margins.

This was a great read! I loved it! It has a truly despicable villainess in Amelia. She is so self-centered and awful. I couldn't wait to see justice meet her. Bryony was gutsy and unique. She does incredible work helping immigrants learn English and makes time to write to try to save her Grandmother's agency. She doesn't expect the offer she gets for her work, however.
I loved Jack and his patience as he seeks to help Bryony. There were a couple big reveal scenes and I delighted in both. The romance was incredibly sweet and poignant.
As someone who loves books, I found it fascinating to get a sneak peek into the publishing world. It made me wonder how many ghostwriters are out there. I understand it for a celebrity who wants to get their memoirs out there but not in this context of an ongoing relationship. How crazy is that! I laughed when Amelia would get tripped up for not doing her homework on her "own" books.
I thought this was a fun book. I'd highly recommend it. Thank you to Thomas Nelson for providing me with a free e-copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson is basically the book equivalent of your favorite comfort movie—equal parts hilarious, swoon-worthy, and totally unputdownable. Bryony Page is out here struggling to get her big break as a writer, but instead of fame, she lands a ghostwriting gig for the Amelia Benedict. Plot twist? She’s actually the genius behind all of Amelia’s bestselling rom-coms, but no one knows it. 💀
Enter Jack Sterling, hotshot literary agent with golden retriever energy, who promises to help Bryony get her own book deal—while also slowly realizing he might just be falling for her. The banter? On point. The slow burn? Immaculate. The entire “falling in love while fixing the mess you created” trope? Chef’s kiss.
Bryony’s journey is such a vibe, balancing laugh-out-loud moments with the very real struggles of chasing your dreams (and getting zero credit for them). And the tension between her and Jack?? It’s the kind of rom-com magic that makes you want to kick your feet and scream into a pillow. By the end, you’ll be rooting for Bryony to get her book deal and her happily ever after.
If you love books about books, witty romance, and a leading lady who deserves the world, The Perfect Rom-Com is a must-read. 10/10, would fake ghostwrite for a shot at true love.

The Perfect Rom-Com was legit the perfect romcom and already one of my top 2025 reads. This book has so much heart, so much wit, so much banter, and so much depth! I absolutely devoured it and still seem to be finding myself in a bit of a book hangover 🥰

ARC/ ALC REVIEW:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Melissa Ferguson pens the “perfect rom-com” in her latest novel!!!
Bryony Page has dedicated her adult life to educating a marginalized community (non-English speakers). Working as an ESL teacher has been fulfilling work. After build lasting relationships (beyond the classroom) with many of her students, she has witnessed them successfully reach their goals. But when she learns the school she works for is on the verge of closure, she vows to save it. Will she be able to garner enough exposure and money to keep the school afloat, or will she lose part of herself along the way?
This book is on track to being one of, if not my favorite romcom of 2025. While I have been a fan of Melissa Ferguson since she began writing, this is hands down her best book to date.
The Perfect RomCom appears to be a passion project for Ferguson. Her real life story is infused all throughout Bryony’s backstory. In the past she worked as an ESL teacher eventually leaving the field to pursue her dream of becoming a published author. Ferguson combined those two experiences to produce a love letter to her former students and ESL teachers everywhere.
Read this book for:
-workplace romance
-friends to more
-he falls first
-slow burn
-books about books
Special thanks to Netgalley, Thomas Nelson Fiction, and Melissa Ferguson for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Arc Review ~ The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson
5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This rom-com by Melissa Ferguson was such a delight to read. Melissa has crafted such a lovely story. It was witty, charming and an incredibly fun read.
I was immediately drawn to our FMC Bryony, an ESL teacher and aspiring author who falls into the job of ghostwriting for one of the most popular and entitled authors in the literary romance world, all in the hopes of having her own novel published. This engaging plot line along with the beautifully written friendship and romance between Bryony and Jack, her literary agent, had me flying through the pages. The dialogue was witty, the characters were incredibly likeable and I really enjoyed the focus on Bryony’s journey.
The Perfect Rom-Com was a fun and heartfelt read. It pulled at my heartstrings. I ugly cried. That’s a 5 star read for me. I couldn’t put it down.
Thank you Melissa and Thomas Nelson Fiction for giving me the opportunity to read and review The Perfect Rom-Com.

What makes the perfect rom-com?
Sweet and swoony with all the witty banter is a definite requirement for me. Melissa Ferguson books are always fun and flirty, consistently checking all those boxes.
The Perfect Rom-Com is the perfect blend of humor and romance and was just a pure delight to read.
When aspiring author Bryony Page meets ruthless literary agent Jack Sterling, she ends up cutting a deal to become the ghostwriter for rom-com queen Amelia Benedict, in exchange for getting her manuscript published one day. When they end up roadtripping together on Amelia’s cross country book tour - in true rom-com fashion, they end up falling for each other, just when it feels like everything is about to fall apart.
This was the most perfect meet cute, with two super lovable leads, ending in an epically adorable grand gesture… and it has one of the most hilariously hateable characters I’ve read to date - and I loved her, too, in the weirdest of ways.

Melissa Ferguson is right up there with the best in writing rom-coms, and The Perfect Rom-Com fits that genre to a T! I laughed often, and the sweet romance and "meet cute" were wonderful.
Aspiring author Bryony Page attends her first writers conference with her first manuscript, brimming with optimism. She hopes that selling her book will benefit The Bridge where she teaches ESL as her full-time job. Her optimism is trampled by editor after editor who reads an excerpt an rejects her book without giving it what she feels is a fair chance. After one last pitch ends in another flaming rejection, she tries critiquing another author's book as a last-ditch effort to make a good impression on the agent, Jack Sterling. Her spot-on observations do impress him, but not enough to put her book out into the world. He does, however, have another idea.
Jack Sterling is used to seeing desperate authors, but none has been as persistent as Bryony. Her book is a monstrosity with way too many things going on, so there is no way any publisher will want it as is, and she refuses to have it edited. However, her critique of the manuscript he gave her as an example impresses him with her insightfulness, and he realizes she just may be the ghost writer he is looking for to write the next Amelia Benedict book. He offers her the job, and she accepts with one caveat: Jack must also sell her book.
No one could have ever predicted that Bryony's books would turn socialite Amelia Benedict into a household name, putting every book she writes on the best seller lists. She is so good that the publisher makes her the exclusive ghost writer for the brand. She writes and Amelia takes all the credit. She makes more money in royalties than she ever expected, but her book still isn't in the hands of an editor. On the up side, Jack has become one of her best friends, but he thinks she should be satisfied with the success she's already had. Can she convince him that her book just needs to see the light of day to be a success?
Prepare to snicker, guffaw, and outright belly laugh at the antics and misspoken idioms of Bryony's ESL students! They were hilarious! I also enjoyed the interactions of Bryony and Jack. He is very good at "talking her off the ledge" so to speak, every time she gets frustrated with Amelia, who comes across as the uber-spoiled rich girl she is.
Readers who enjoy romance with a heavy dose of comedy will love The Perfect Rom-Com. In my opinion, this book IS the perfect rom-com and I highly recommend it! I listened to this on the NetGalley app and the narrator is wonderful!

This was one book that kept me fully on my toes and just as the fellow reviewer mentioned above I personally have not read a book with the mixed emotions that it had. I was in awe and will be recommending this to my personal book lovers!

The Perfect Rom-Com was incredibly well done! The characters felt so believable, and I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline beyond just the romance. I was pleasantly surprised to find myself hooked from the very beginning, eagerly turning pages to see how everything would unfold—and the ending did not disappoint! While a happy ending was expected, I loved how it played out in such a unique way.
This was my first book by Melissa Ferguson, and it certainly won’t be my last! I can’t wait to read more from her in the future.
A huge thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

Bryony Page has a passion and a purpose. Or maybe a purpose and a passion. She dreams of one day finding success as an author, but most importantly, she dreams of saving The Bridge, the language school her grandmother established to help immigrants find their dreams of gaining U.S. citizenship.
To that end, she spends every spare minute writing a love story she believes will achieve both goals. Summoning her courage, she travels to Nashville, TN, to attend a writer’s conference and pitch her manuscript to three agents. The first two gently explain that her novel’s mixture of genres won’t sell. Jack Sterling, the rising star of Foundry Literary Agency, might be her last hope. However, the pitch goes awry. Jack criticizes her manuscript (too long, too many genres), and she shares her honest opinion of his famous client, Amelia Benedict’s latest work (awful).
Bryony rushes out of the conference before she bursts into tears and promises to set her dreams aside. She doesn’t expect Jack Sterling to show up in the elevator at her hotel as she’s rushing to catch her plane. And she never dreamed he would offer her a job ghostwriting for Amelia Benedict. Jack convinces Bryony to come on board in exchange for promising to pitch her novel (and a healthy paycheck).
As each new Amelia Benedict book sells, Bryony contributes more and more to her passion project—keeping The Bridge afloat. Amelia Benedict, who treats people like peons, becomes a nemesis whom Bryony can’t escape. And Jack Sterling becomes her best friend but a lousy agent—never managing to sell her manuscript despite his promises.
Bryony’s books—the ones she ghostwrites for Amelia Benedict—have heart, romance, and relatable characters that fans love. Since her book, which she hopes will save The Bridge, languishes, Bryony does something no author should do—she contacts an editor without her agent. What happens next brings her relationships to a plot twist from which she may never recover.
Can her friendship with Jack recover from her betrayal? Only if she can write the perfect rom-com in record time. Unbeknownst to her, Jack has his own plot twist in the works—one that will expose Bryony’s nemesis.
What I Loved About This Book
Melissa Ferguson pens yet another perfect rom-com, this time about a struggling writer who creates a perfect rom-com despite her own messy love life. Readers will swoon over the best-friends-to-lovers plot and cheer when the villain gets her comeuppance.

This rom-com was really sweet and cute... I loved Jack... the little moments like “Believe me, Bryony. You’re the only one getting this look.”
or loved this moment:
“How often do we see each other?”
I shrug, my anticipation rising. “Well, every other day or so, I suppose. But we’ve got a lot in common. Work, like on this tour.”
“Which I chose to go on with you.”
“Bowling.”
“Which I signed up for, for you.”
“Mutual friends.”
“Your friends. Your friends whom I’ve made my friends.” He must see the electricity in my eyes and adds, “I’m actually far less needy than you and can exist happily with only two or three important people in my life. All of which proves my point.”
“Which is?”
“That for all intents and purposes, up to this point, we have been dating.”
the opening moment at the writing conference was amazing, I was really hooked in... when she has his phone and text messages start to arrive, that little peek into Jack's personality made me giddy... I knew I was going to love the story...
I only wish more of the falling in love happened on page and it was like fast-forward two years Jack is in love with Bryony...

Have you ever read a book that felt like a friend?
The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson was that book for me. Thank you NetGalley for my copy.
I received my copy during a hard season and this book was the joy I needed. The lovable character of an author turned ghostwriter who falls for her literary agent? And has mishaps along the way? This was my perfect rom-com!
I even found myself reading a scene out loud to my husband. I, like the main character Bryony, have also taught ESL students. And the joy and laughter it brings is so special to my heart
Perfect read for spring!

The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson is simply perfect! I adored this novel. Bryony is an ESL teacher who is trying to save her work place with a book she has written. Jack Sterling is a literary agent who talks Melissa into a ghost writing for a big-name author. What can possibly go wrong?
This book was everything! Bryony and Jack had amazing chemistry, banter, and a great friendship. Jack is simply cool and you never quite sure what he is up to which gives him a little bit of mystery. Bryony is the friend that you always wanted and you hope her sister comes along with you when you go to lunch! I loved this novel from beginning to end and kept turning the pages to see what would happen next. It has romance, sweet friendships, great humor and sparkles. You will smile at what we are all willing to do when we are in love.
The Perfect Rom-Com by Melissa Ferguson is a novel you do not want to miss. The writing is fantastic and I think it is the author’ best work to date.
