I thoroughly enjoyed Book One of the Heart’s Ease Series and had been anxiously waiting to read Book Two - Hard as Ice did not disappoint. The focus of Book Two is the romance between Daphne Scott, Scottish beauty searching to find herself and a new career, and Jack Walsh, Heart’s Ease native hockey star recuperating from a season ending injury. They are classic opposites: different backgrounds, upbringing, education, families, continents, etc. Hard as Ice shares the sweet moments as they discover their attraction and the bitter-sweet as they attempt to make their relationship work. I loved their conversations, particularly reading what they were willing to speak aloud, and what they held back from each other. Strong leading characters, successful and driven but with fears and vulnerabilities.
There are also appearances from favorite characters from Book One – Cam, Elise, Aunt Ida and Asher. I love that I get to see what’s been happening with these characters since the end of Book One.
