Police Captain Ajax Montoya is six days sober. But his nights are haunted by...what? Delirium? Hallucinations? A ghost? Maybe he's just finally going crazy. Until it seems that his nightmares are leaving his head and appearing, well, all around him. When he's called in to investigate a robbery turned murder, Montoya recognizes the marks of a surprising enemy - the CIA mercenary army known as The Contra. There's much more to this death than meets the eye, but he’s the only one who notices, or wants to notice. This isn't just a random murder; this is an execution, a call to arms and to war. There's been a lot of dying lately. As the bodies pile up and a red-headed gringa who should be his enemy enchants his thoughts, Montoya questions whether he can stay sober, sane, and alive long enough to figure it all out.
