For centuries, the ruler of Fjorden has been chosen by the Sonne—a battle to the death hosted every twenty-two years. A month before this year’s competition, neighboring Swaymark launches an attack on the east coast, shattering the two countries’ shaky truce and forcing Fjorden to balance tradition with war.

Princess Sofia must hold her kingdom—and herself—together as each of the five champions prepares to fight for the throne. But the gods have plans of their own. Although the champions can defeat each other, no one can defeat fate.
