About the Author:

Kelly Lyn Marquis is a top All-Breed Professional Handler in the U.S., who has transformed her years of experience in the dog show world into a unique life coaching practice. Through her company, Winall Coaching, she works as a Canine Connection Life Coach, helping goal-oriented individuals unlock their potential by applying the invaluable lessons she’s learned from working with dogs. Kelly excels at helping people live more fulfilling, purpose-driven lives. In addition to coaching, she hosts handling workshops for owner-handlers who share her passion for showmanship and excellence.

Kelly earned the title of #1 Working Dog Handler in the U.S. by showing Ch. Blue Chip’s Purple Reign, “Raisin,” who became the top Doberman, #1 Working Dog, and #5 among all breeds. Since 1997, she has consistently qualified Dobermans in the Top 20 and has handled hundreds of dogs to championship and grand championship titles.

Born into a family of animal lovers, Kelly’s parents had a deep affinity for dogs and other animals. Dogs, however, were her happy place. Her connection with dogs, competitive spirit, and love of learning make handling dogs the ultimate expression of her inner drive. After earning a Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Hampshire, Kelly worked in marketing and public relations while handling dogs professionally. Ten years later, she transitioned to full-time dog handling, and within three years, she led Raisin to national recognition.

As a Professional Dog Show Handler for over 30 years, Kelly has written articles on dog show dynamics and accountability for Dog News Magazine. Her career highlights include winning Best in Show at The National Dog Show, televised on Thanksgiving Day, and being featured in Sports Illustrated. Known for her integrity, professionalism, and intensity in the show ring, Kelly is valued by her clients for her fair treatment, intuitive connection with dogs, and her ability to maximize their dog’s performance in competitive arenas.

Advance Praise

"I have read a multitude of dog books, but never one so comprehensive, illuminating, and entertaining. Behind the Scenes of Best in Show digs to the very core of the sport. It features some of the stars of today, but also brings to life the architects and immortals of purebred dogs… and does it in such a humane and down-to-earth way as to be of interest and enlightening to the casual observer, professional handler, judge, or the most accomplished breeder."  — Joe Purkhiser, Col., USAF (Retired), AKC All-Breed Judge

"Anyone who has ever been to a dog show can describe what they’ve seen: hurried handlers, imposing judges, cheering crowds, and ring after ring of seemingly perfect dogs. In Behind the Scenes of Best in Show, Kelly Lyn Marquis offers an uncommon glimpse at the unseen moments that take place before, during, and after every show. Each interview and every story reveals the kind of intimacy that not only encourages insecure dogs to become confident champions but also inspires talented handlers to dig deep and become even better versions of themselves."  — Dan Sayers, Editor of Showsight Magazine

"In Behind the Scenes of Best in Show, Kelly Lyn Marquis presents an unusual level of reflection and depth in a way never presented before… Here, we have the opportunity to explore the intricate and passionate world of dog shows, guided by someone who has lived and breathed this lifestyle. Kelly masterfully shares her own deep experience in dogs and weaves the stories of the 'Masters' into a full open-curtain reveal of the joyful yet excruciating complexity and commitment required to succeed at the highest level.

This book is a must-read for anyone looking to understand the depth, dedication, and passion behind dog handlers’ polished exteriors. It will become a centerpiece for Dog Show Mentor members, clearly revealing the relationships between breeders, professionals, and judges. It brings new meaning to the words 'commitment' and 'dedication' previously not understood."  — Lee Whittier, Founder of The Dog Show Mentor
