Firstly, a big big thank you to the author, Tyler Hilton, the illustrator, Eugenia Nobati, the publisher, Familius, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this children's picture book, Daddy: Live in Concert. After coming across the book and thinking the cover was cute, I noticed the name Tyler Hilton and it struck me as familiar, and then I remembered - I had jammed out many a time, windows down, to Tyler Hilton's songs and still have his CD. I ran to get it and listened as I read, so I have to say this was a pleasant surprise and I got to listen to his music for the first time in a little while. It was just as good as I remember!
Onto the book review, this book is a super cute bedtime story with lovely illustrations and a sweet story. The story itself is a rhyming ballad written in an ABCB rhyme scheme, which is quite clever as it's a rhyme scheme more closely associated with music and the story is about a concert. I really liked this extra touch once I noticed - and the lines themselves do flow very well and the story is well-paced. A small girl is invited to a concert, and discovers the artist is the one and only - Dad! After singing her favorite songs with his guitar, the audience gets quite sleepy and ends the night with one last song. I would definitely recommend this one for children aged 0-5, who will really enjoy the colors of the illustrations, the rhyming pattern, and the context of the story!
The cover is very fun and light, and drew my attention immediately. I love the bright sign with the title, which really pulls forward the "concert" element of the story in a clever way. I also really enjoyed the illustrations throughout, especially the ones with backgrounds of the house and the details. All the details made the family's house feel real and loving. Thanks again for the opportunity to read and remember some music I really enjoy, and I'll definitely be sharing this book with the little ones in my life upon release!
I added this to the list of physical books to get my babies straight away. I love the story and the illustration through the book. It’s different from other children’s books that I’ve read before. There is a typo on page 14 in the last line. Besides that it had my husband and I smiling while reading the book to our babies. Our son never took his eyes off the book once. He immediately fell asleep not even a minute after I was finished. The daddy in the book kind of resembles my husband as well. Plus my husband sings with his guitar all the time. So this is going to be the perfect Father’s Day gift from our babies.
Decorated with truly divine illustrations, 'Daddy: Live in Concert' sweetly explores the magnificent impact that a loving, special parent can have on a child. The most simple of displays of love can be world changing for kids as they're developing. A book that makes the case for present, fun parenting, something small in execution but oh the smiles and laughter it brings. A perfect bedtime story.
I absolutely loved this book and my toddlers did too! I read this as an ARC book to my toddlers one night at bed time and they giggled and enjoyed the picture
