Description
Young Royals meets The Prince and Me when a disgraced princess falls for a new student at their all-girls boarding school, but the two must hide their forbidden love at all costs.
Princess Rosemary of Henland can’t afford distractions. She’s working tirelessly to repair her image following a scandal that lost the trust of both her country and her best friend. Unfortunately, when a beautiful and funny new student joins her boarding school, Rose finds herself quite distracted indeed.
Attending Bramppath College on a music scholarship, talented pianist Danni expects to be an outcast amongst the wealthy children of the elite, but she is pleasantly surprised to be taken in by the ex-best friend of the princess. The more Danni gets to know her new classmates, the more intrigued she becomes by Rose.
When somebody sees something they shouldn’t and rumors circulate throughout Henland, Rose and Danni must either find a way to deflect the ever-increasing eyes on their relationship, or end it altogether. Because one thing is clear: if Rose’s fragile reputation takes any more hits, the palace will do whatever they must to separate Rose and Danni. Forever.

The cover on this one is absolutely adorable. This story has plenty of the hallmarks of a good YA novel. I loved every second.

This book is an absolute gem! I was completely drawn into their world, where every glance and secret meeting felt like a daring act of rebellion. Rose’s struggle to reclaim her reputation adds a rich layer to the story, making her connection with Danni even more poignant. Their relationship blooms against the backdrop of societal expectations and personal stakes, creating a rollercoaster of emotions that left me breathless. The tension is palpable as they navigate the choppy waters of rumors and scrutiny, and I found myself rooting for their love to triumph against all odds. The supporting characters add depth and complexity, enriching the narrative and providing a perfect balance to Rose and Danni's journey. I was captivated by the exploration of friendship, loyalty, and the sacrifices one must make for love. If you’re a fan of royal dramas with a side of heartfelt romance, you absolutely cannot miss this.
Nobody in Particular highlights Sophie Gonzales' incredible skills of building tension and devising real characters. ALL of the characters in this novel felt real to me, and had their own distinct storylines, quirks, and personalities. This is not true of all writers and Sophie does a great job with it. The boarding school scene makes for a wonderful world in which Rose and Danni feel like they can live outside the perception of the world itself. Of course, this is never the case and conflict always comes, but I think Sophie did a phenomenal job with this book. I wish this could have come out years ago and I want to send a strongly worded letter to the person who said the world wasn't ready for a royal queer romance.
I really enjoyed this forbidden romance, it worked well with what I was looking for and enjoyed about the genre. The characters had that overall storyline that I was looking for and were written perfectly. Sophie Gonzales has a strong writing style and was glad I got to read this.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this digital ARC in exchange for an honest review. I really enjoyed this story. Danni and Rosemary were so fun to read, I didn’t want this book to end!
Princess Rosemary of Henland is determined to rebuild her damaged reputation, but meeting Danni—a talented, down-to-earth pianist on scholarship—throws her off course. Danni, new to the elite boarding school, is drawn into a social circle that brings her closer to Rose, sparking a connection neither expected. As rumors spread, Rose faces pressure from the palace to end the relationship or risk everything. It’s a heartfelt, high-stakes romance that explores the tension between personal desires and public duty.
This is my favourite book by Sophie. I can’t even explain it. I love royalty books and I’ve read a couple this year and it seems to me that one side of the couple falls flat but this one? Was amazing. Both characters grew and became better people. The romance was adorable. Without getting into spoilers, I loved both characters. This book broke me out of my DNF streak and I’m so glad. This is everything.
i don’t even have the words for how much i loved this book.
sophie gonzales is one of my all time favorite authors that write sapphic books and it warms my heart every time with just how right she gets these stories and characters every time.
one of my favorite books is a sapphic romance about a princess just like this one so i knew i was going to like it either way, but i never expected to relate so heavily to this one.
rose and danni made my 13 year old self giggle and cry and kick my feet the whole book. i never could have imagined being out publicly and especially in a situation like this one, but i wish i could tell her just how good it gets!!!!!
i have so much love for this book, sophie as an author, and netgalley for giving me the chance to read this book early.
i am BEYOND obsessed with this book!! it’s the perfect YA rom com but also WILL MAKE YOU CRY!! i love anything involving royals and boarding school so this book is literal perfection!
If you need something to read after just finishing the finale of Young Royals, this book is for you. Or if you just like cute WLW romances set at a boarding school, and with a royal as a main character. This was overall a great book, and if you are new to Sophie Gonzales or have read all of her books (like me), this is a great young adult book.
Thank you to St. Martin's Press and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is a teen romance but from a queer standpoint.
It also covers being true to yourself in every way. Learning to stand up for yourself and doing what is right.
I am not queer myself, but I'm a Mom of 6 adult kids and I actually enjoyed this story about a future queen and how she comes to terms with being a lesbian and being in the spotlight. How being true to yourself is more important than hiding in the shadows or the closet.
People who truly love you will love you no matter what and if there's conditions placed on you for your love, it's not worth it.
If Miss Americana and the Heartbreak Prince was a wonderfully sapphic novel set a fictional country, it might be a little bit like this lovely book.
Nobody in Particular is set primarily at a boarding school. Reading it made me feel like I was in my first year of college again, living in a dorm and hanging out with the wonderful cast of characters in this novel.
This book felt like a warm hug, and I think it healed some part of me. I loved how the author tackled difficult subjects and complex friendship dynamics and let the characters work through hard things in a way that felt very real. It felt so special getting to watch these characters grow up and navigate life.
More details:
This book is told through two characters, in alternating POVs.
The story takes place over the course of multiple months, during the school year. This felt like the perfect Autumn or Winter read to me, with references to the start of the school year, snow sports, and cold weather (but please don’t let this stop you from reading it whenever!).
Thank you so very much to Sophie Gonzales, Wednesday Books, and NetGalley for allowing me to read this eARC and provide my honest review. I loved it so much and plan to purchase the final version when it comes out later this year!
Everybody say thank you Sophie Gonzales for delivering the sapphic YA royal romance of our dreams! NOBODY IN PARTICULAR is such a stunning coming-of-age story about love, hope, hurt, and yearning (seriously: so! much! yearning!!). It is totally obsess-worthy, and I can’t wait for everyone to feel that!!
For all my girls who have been begging for a return of yearning - may I present to you this SENSATIONAL book!! This was my first time reading a sapphic romance novel, and the bar has been set HIGH.
Nobody in Particular is a YA romance that follows Danni, a musically-talented American student new to the high society of Henland's Bramppath College, and Rose, the crown princess who is grappling with the consequences of a recent transgression. Both have always kept their sexualities a secret, fearing they wouldn't be accepted by their friends, family, or country. But once they meet, they find themselves almost immediately drawn to each other - one of them just has to take a leap of faith.
What comes next is a heartfelt and hilarious coming-of-age story about the courage it takes to be known and loved.
I deeply appreciate and applaud Sophie Gonzales on writing characters and experiences that felt true to their age - at times, there were sentiments so specific to the teenage experience that they brought back near-forgotten yet intense emotions from my own 17-year-old existence. Every character had depth to them, and the story touched upon each person's growth and development in a way that felt true to life. (Like these are my friends!!! What do you mean they aren't actually real??)
I can't wait for everyone to fall in love with this story the way that I have!! In the author's note, Sophie Gonzales revealed that this book was over a decade in the making - it's clear that the time invested in this story was well-spent, and I hope that future readers shower it with the praise that it deserves.
Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin's Press, and Wednesday Books for providing this E-ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book was adorable, satisfying, and well paced. I was very excited to read it, and it exceeded expectations. Not only was the romance interesting, but the friendships and character developments were amazing. From someone who never reads romance, I cannot praise this book enough.
One of the best sapphic books i've read! Super amazing book, loved reading the whole thing and I will for sure think about this for a while!! Definitely give this a read! The perfect little sweet romance book for every occasion!
So so incredible!! I adored every second I spent with this book, which admittedly wasn't very many because I read it in one day haha! I love the way Sophie writes queer relationships in all the fun tropes we always wanted to see ourselves in. Is it realistic to believe that a princess is going to come out and publicly be with a common girl? No, and I don't care!! We've seen this trope for ages with straight romances and it was so so fun to see lesbians doing the same thing. Alongside that, this book was also very moving, with great writing and so many tender moments. We see the characters change, grow, and support and love each other through it all. On top of that, all the characters are hysterical! I laughed out loud multiple times! This book was a light in a very dark time in my life, I would highly recommend it to anyone who's in need of that.
Oh, Sophie Gonzales has outdone herself with Nobody in Particular. I've loved every book of hers I've read so far, but this is by far my favorite. A sapphic royal romance with a prickly, sarcastic princess? Absolute perfection. One of my common gripes with sapphic romances is that the characters never get to be as messy as queer M/M ships, but this really subverted that with Rose, and I'm utterly delighted that it did. She's messy, makes bad decisions and continuously has to live with the consequences - all while still being redeemable as a love interest and utterly adoring Danni. And Danni? That girl was such a sweetheart, I loved her perspective and just wanted to protect her from everything and anything so she could see she deserved the world. Watching her grow into herself over the course of the novel was so satisfying, and I really loved that despite her insecurities she tried her best to stay true to herself and her opinions.
And if you're wondering if I'm being dramatic about how great this is, I'm not. I laid in bed all day and refused to move until I finished and have zero regrets. It's only been ten days since I finished and I'm already considering rereading it too. Nobody in Particular is like The Princess Diaries but sapphic and set in a boarding school, aka the book of my teenage dreams. Please do yourself a favor and read this, recommend it to anyone you think will enjoy it, and convince your local library to get a copy to help get it into the hands of teens!
This book gave me exactly what I wanted of a royal dating a non royal person, it’s hard writing a lgbt Royal book and not being compared to red royal and blue. This book managed to feel very different from that, that I think explored how the Royal Society still treats the lgbt community by being allies unless it’s the first in line to the crown.
This would be a fun read for anyone I personally think but for the demographic it’s for, it’s a very well written novel, that captures how impulsive and hormonal teenagers are.
